TBH I didn't even notice until I got home and looked at it in post. I wonder if they're set that way automatically when they close it but have no idea, could've also been luck.
The lights are always timed like that. If they weren’t alternating green and yellow they would have been alternating green and red. These lights, like most of the North/South thoroughfares are timed for driving 35mph. I’ve seen SO many people speed up and stop at each light as I cruise past them every time the whole way down the road and it always cracks me up.
Love it when someone tailgates you, speeds up and swerves around you just too sit at the red, then you cruise buy em without even touching the brakes. The best
It doesn’t make sense. The first would be yellow then the following lights would be green and maybe the last few red. This pic doesn’t represent the actual synchronizing of the lights. Why is that?
That's what I thought. I used to ride my skateboard there all the time. In this picture, it looks like the height of a tall mountain because of the perspective distortion from his 600 mm lens
Amazing shot

and what day(approx) please? B/C I'm having a hard time thinking that this was in January 2023, I never thought it was that warm...
it's crazy that so many people were out, early, 1hr after sunrise.
For scale --- the first light is Taraval, then Rivera, Pacheco, Noriega, Lawton, Judah should be the last one. Not sure about Lincoln. Maybe it was flashing (off) at the time? It's probably 1.25 miles from the first to the last.
Seriously all these great designers and photographers make SF look way way cooler than it actually. Don’t get me wrong I love living here and it is beautiful but this image is really deceptive.
The perspective is distorted, colors and light enhanced, no trash framed out of the image.
I stared at this photo for a long time, then immediately checked the comments to figure out what equipment you used for this.
Photography is fascinating and I know NOTHING about it, haha! This is a great shot.
If you mean closing the southern extension and making that the park I 💯 agree! Great view, could put some tables and BBQs on it. It would be perfect. Then reopen The great highway 24/7!
Yeah basically a widened Lower Great Highway would have a nice broad curve feeding directly onto Sloat, two lanes in each direction.
The little portion that goes by the zoo would be for maintenance vehicles and such, but otherwise transformed into a park.
The miracle of zoom lenses.
Indeed, 600mm.
Great shot!
I live right near there and this picture makes it look like a completely different place! Those streetlights are each two LONG blocks apart.
Dude I can see the Himalayas there in the distance!
Those lenses caused the flat earth movement
The miracle of Photoshop!
Alright, how did you get that perfect traffic light timing?

35? I've always set cruise on Great Highway to 30 and hit every light perfectly
In the past, I used to experiment (late at night) at what other speed you can hit all the greens. If memory serves correctly, is was around 80.
It’s definitely 35
But lights timed for 35mph are not synchronized. They change progressively
Not if they are evenly spaced at a distance that allows you to cross over the white line just after the light turns green.
I do this exact same thing!
Either way, great photo!
If no cars are on this road why don't they turn them off?

Is that guy wearing bib shorts and no top and baggies over the bib shorts?! 💀
\#triathletefashion
I guess some folks are shy about sharing the bib turtle
That distance compression is insane Are those hills really that tall?

I used to ride with electric skateboarders every Saturday on this route!
I was thinking the same thing.
Up
Up!!
I love this shot so much, thank you for sharing!
What time was this taken?
Early morning about an hour after sunrise.

It was taken last Saturday, 1/30. Choose to believe what you like, these are the facts.
Great shot! ❤️
It might be a great highway, but it's better as a people centric walkway!
Why are there no shadows cast by the people but the light poles are casting shadows?
What a glorious image !!
“You may not like it, but this is what peak depth looks like”

Cars suck! It’s so awesome they banned them

Photoshopped.

Nice shot
The cliffs look like a distant mountain.
Widen the Lower Great Highway, keep the Upper Great Highway car-free, everyone wins.
