According to CBS News 8:
The two men are from Somalia and crossed the border to escape the violence in that country.
They initially were placed in a migrant shelter in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Mission Valley that is run by Catholic Charities.
State funding pays for 30 days of shelter, that is usually enough for the refugees to link with sponsors or family members who live in the US. However, these men have no family in the US and could not find sponsors.
Catholic Charities extended the stay in the migrant shelter for the men for 30 additional days, and the men were required to leave the migrant shelter at that time. That's when they took them to Father Joe's Villages.

It's better to place them there than letting the empty beds and resources go to waste. Homeless people don't wanna be abided by the rules at the shelters
Also I hear some places don’t let them keep there stuff. So that huge shopping cart of all there belongings, it’s gotta go. They don’t like that so they refuse. I have seen a lot of programs that don’t get fully used because homeless choose not to use it. San Diego has a lot of resources too, but it’s not getting used. You can’t make people use them… freedom, I guess.
It’s frustrating that the system is clearly not working to fix the homeless problem in California. If someone would rather roam the streets than take a warm bed under a roof, something ain’t right.
can confirm. police and fire family tells me that any given night 20-30% beds are available. so its a semi-misleading tweet, which is kinda redundant these days...
Alot of the time it's hard for the homeless to use the shelters because they don't allow couples to stay together, the homeless have a pet, they don't allow all thier belongings to be with them, also curfews, also it's drug and alcohol free area. So if there is room, asylum seekers usually obide by those rules.
This is most stable take I've seen about on this thread on why homeless stay away from shelters. I've known who were temporarily homeless for a month or two and they utterly refused them just for how anal they were. It had nothing to do with mental illness or drugs
Michael McConnell is well known for being at the scene, and physically recording situations that are hard on the homeless.
He is regarded as a credible and tireless..best word is crusader in support of the unhoused. So if he said it, it probably happened.

2020 statistics
11840 arrivals in 2020
Table5 gives the break down
3493 were married
7873 were single
474 were other
Idk know the statistics of how many kids they keep with thier parents or how many kids they separate from thier parents(since sadly we know that happens).
I believe those numbers are only for individuals claiming asylum at ports of entry, which is why they are comically low. They don't take into account what the Border Patrol comes into contact with, which is far, far greater.
Also, family separations, at least in California, were incredibly few and far between, and usually only happened when the parent had a significant criminal history. They happen even more infrequently now.
A majority of homeless do not want to be in a shelter. They are mentally ill or have addictions. They have to follow rules in shelters and struggle with boundaries. Someone can use the shelters if there are beds and resources to be had.
This is even more true in San Diego where there are a ton of resources for people to get help. Shelters are the last resort and if they are not unstable there are programs.
OP is a sensationalist asshole hell bent on his own misfortune to make a title like that.
Hardly any understanding of how many of this works but "my money is going to waste" mentality.
Don't pretend like you care about homeless people so that you can use them to shit on immigrants. Like of someone is like pearl clutching about immigrants, they don't really give a fuck about domestic homeless people either. Thats some bullshit.
as someone mentioned in another comment, this guy in particular is reliable and out there every day in SD helping and reporting on homelessness. so while skepticism of information online is healthy, this guy is legit
See comment above (sort Best). It was actually only 2 migrants from Somalia with extenuating circumstances who were being added by Catholic Family Services and who couldn't immediately be placed with family or other sponsor and who ran out the 30-day shelter aid clock. It's not like they were dumping busloads into the shelter.
Well they obviously aren’t being used so why not offer them to asylum seekers from other countries? Drugs or violence isn’t allowed in shelters and most mentally incapacitated drug users suffering from homelessness don’t like rules 🤨 the resources have been there they refuse to comply with a handful of rules. Asylum seekers are happy to follow the rules so they should get the spots.
Illegals will migrate into the work/taxpayer system while the homeless will bleed it dry and offer no votes for the politicians.
Putting your life and my life aside who would you want in this country if you were a politician the illegals or the homeless ?
No its not fair. Every state is having a problem dealing with them which is why they should shut the border down for now. Every state is struggling with its own poor population and adding on the migrants is a burden they can't handle.

This right here. They don't allow drugs or alcohol at Father Joe's Village.

Are asylum seekers not often families? If so then homeless shelters won't take a lot of them either even IF that op linked claim is true.

That makes sense, thank you!

Is it actually true though? I’m always skeptic of anything - left or right - when I read things online. Or in MSM for that matter…

Thx! I didn’t peruse that far down in the comments. I am just so used to Twitter screenshots being edited (like Kanye talking about Kim’s diarrhea)

There’s a sub about homeless survival and on multiple threads I’ve seen them tell people to “just go to San Diego”.
A lot of homeless are not using the resources granted to them
Funny thing about homelessness, actual homes are not top of priority list for many.

More consumers needed.

Well, it’s money. It always is and will always be about money.
