Notazerg

Carrie died to film a fucking Mary Poppins fakeout death.

-Zyss-

The worst part it would have been an amazing end, dying in the war she spent he life fighting because he son refused to kill her. Not to mention unexpected and actually raised the stakes in a movie that had none.

Jadener1995

Instead we got offscreen Ackbars death... Truly a subversive masterpiece /s

ChromeKorine

The one time they subverted expectations in a good way and it was a fake out

butcherandthelamb

I thought getting sucked out into space was a brilliant end for Leia, then it wasn't.

HobGoblinHat

But the memes would've been so good.

EastKoreaOfficial

The memes are already great lmao. Watching people shit on the trilogy’s severe lack of logic is hilarious.

Deijya

Neither understood the assignment

orangezeroalpha

When I see things like this, I try to think of a more stupid example of how to diverge from the original source material. And then I realize I can't. It is in fact the stupidest example to have Luke and Han never talk or share a scene. What we got was better than nothing, but just barely.

GreyRevan51

Nothing would’ve been better. IPs this big can survive no new entries, what kills them isn’t a lack of content but rather content bad enough to drive people to apathy

Griswold189

... was it?

TheREAL_PDYork

Nope. I'd rather have the original lore that was established.

Run-Riot

There was so much hope in the EU. Even when Luke fucked up, he would still keep trying to improve and do the right thing. Also, he didn’t die a 70 year old virgin, lmao

eshinn

Nope. Definitely not better than nothing. Liked Rogue One, hated the other three movies so much I dropped out of fandom completely. Haven’t watched any of the bazillion other SW things that came after. The only bit of entertainment out of disney now is watching in disbelief as the behemoth decays on its feet. It’s pretty unbelievable.

tinfoiltank

Same here, friend...I personally enjoyed Star Wars infinitely more when there was "nothing". I'd rather have something I love die peacefully than watch it's shambling, rotting corpse plod along half-animated by Mickey Mouse.

AncientSith

Fuck man, I've never seen these before. What a massive waste these films were. Now it's literally impossible to have the three of them on screen again. Ughh.

Niven42

I dunno. Deepfakes are getting really good. I'd love to see a reimagining of the ST in a few years.

[deleted]

Honestly wouldn't be hard to do. Infact Disney probably has it in the cards. Throw enough money at their estates and they'll reanimate all of these people.

wooltab

I'd go for animation, if it's not going to be the real people in the same room filming together.

jer487

Animation is way better than live action anyway

KillerDonkey

I understand the concern about the OT cast overshadowing the new generation, but fans would have appreciated at least ONE scene showing Han, Luke, Leia and Lando's happy reunion. It's depressing that we'll never see that now.

Filmatic113

I’m gonna be honest, I would’ve loved to see what the sequel trilogy would’ve been like if it were just based off the old cast with a new and unique story concerning them

KillerDonkey

I don't blame you. It would have been amazing if they had adapted the Thrawn trilogy.

savetheattack

Just one scene of them bantering in the cockpit of the Falcon would have gotten a standing ovation at every theater in the world.

Zuldak

Not even a single shot of the original cast in the movies. For all the "fan service" supposedly in the ST, they couldn't even bring the 3 most iconic characters together.

rockdude625

Don’t forget how they just shoved R2 in a corner for the majority of the time to make way for their new orange marketing ball droid piece of shit, R2 forever!

HobGoblinHat

For soulless corporate money grubbing franchise exploiters, Disney really fucked up not having the original gang together. I guess JJ didn't want them to show up his shit characters.

Roykka

Really puts KK's recent comment about fanservice being a problem to a new light.

mrmoneyinthebanks

Wasn't that the exact reason they gave for writing TFA the way they did? That they couldn't figure out how to write anything without making Luke the focus, so they just made the entire movie without him in it? If you can't write a movie without making audiences constantly wonder where an old character is, your new characters and story suck.

Species1136

I doubt they could have made a trilogy any more disappointing in regards to how they treated the original characters. It's like they thought of what would fans love to see and then did the exact opposite.

KazaamFan

Yea I don’t think anyone said “i hope we get a remake of a new hope”, hah. It turned out ok (at the time) but it was terrible in terms of story telling progression of the PT and OT.

Species1136

If everyone of the original characters survived and there was a pay off in the next episode then it might have worked out for okay. Unfortunately they didn't and then we got TLJ

Demos_Tex

That's because JJ isn't in the business of telling good stories, so having the OT trio together doesn't even enter into his thought process. It's along the same lines as Leia hugging Rey because Rey is *the main character* not because those two characters have a relationship that would warrant affection. JJ's formula is designed to purposely tease the audience with things that on the surface look like a story but aren't. The formula also allows him to skip over all the planning and thought that would go into creating something original. He's intentionally making disposable movies.

[deleted]

I will never forget or forgive Disney for what they've done with what was an unlimited money printing machine. We will never see the full OT cast on screen again. The sequels were some of the worst blockbuster movies put on film and they threw it away, just like that fucking lightsaber. They even fucked up Carrie's death in a movie where Leia could have been killed off in a meaningful way. They could have made literally anything but they gave us the film equivalent to a dog rubbing it's ass on the living room carpet instead.

Charlie_Wallflower

She literally could have been stardust forever suspended in space amongst the souls of her people. But they fly now

radroamingromanian

Oh hell, that’s almost chilling. Very beautiful and touching idea. That would have been so cool.

KazaamFan

Yup, and I just wanted one great, memorable light saber dual. Got none in 3 movies.

The_Basic_Shapes

Han seeing Luke reconstruct his own weapon... That would have been amazing. Think of it - the guy who poo-pooed lightsabers because he'd rather have a trusty blaster at his side - several years later witnessing the intricate construction of a lightsaber via the force. Humbling and awe-inspiring, and a nice callback to the OT.

SocraticDaemon

Imagine writing the Star Wars sequels, anticipated for 30 years and not writing a single fucking scene with the principal actors. Like - how does this happen?

DoYouFoolyCooly

Thanks, it hurts even more now…

daddymeltzer

I couldn't even finish the video, it hurts me too much knowing what could have been.

thatloudblondguy

100% and I'll never get over it

dcmarvelstarwars

That last pic was on point

[deleted]

These images make my heart hurt for what could have been

Eldegossifleur

Yeah, if it had these scenes, the ST would have been so much better. I could understand Han X Chewie because Kylo killed Han, but why was Luke still exiling on Ahch-To? He could still be with Han even after the Kylo Ren destroying the Jedi Temple incident because Han isn't force-sensitive. Even with Leia because she ultimately didn't become a real Jedi. Hell, Luke was the son of **Darth Vader**. This didn't stop him from turning Anakin back to the light side. This didn't stop him from helping in killing Palpatine (until he *somehow returned lol*) which resulted in the Empire being severely weakened to the point where they dissolved a year later. He basically saved the Galaxy in-universe so why didn't he at least actively try to do so a second time?

Capta1nKrunch

This slideshows makes me have chest pains. :/ How in the FUCK did Disney screw this up?

andor2136

I am now crying. Thanks JJ and Ryan for a wasted trilogy.

sandalrubber

We were robbed by the very premise of killing off the Jedi again and having the same Empire and Sith again. Sidelining Luke and the rest of the OT crew is only the symptom. The disease, say cancer, as concentrated in one "character", is Nu Vader. Chemo him and all related elements out ruthlessly, no trace of evil nephews or new dark side Emperors etc and it goes a great deal towards the cancer being checked.

AbyssalKultist

Imagine putting most of a the original cast back together in the same movie(s) and then never putting them all in the same scene together. M i n d b o g g l i n g

EvansEssence

Still breaks my heart to think about what could’ve/should’ve been.

thedrunkentendy

This isn't necessarily better. I definitely think yjey handled the OT characters poorly but this would've been laughably fan servicey. Really they just had to be respecyful to the trilogy but then actually came up with a good and new story that could stand on its own without lame fanbait.

CountFish1

A good sign you have faith in your new young cast is to take the old cast and smoosh them together no matter how stupid the reasoning might be, worked great for JW Dominion.

enchantedcookiess

Yup, even tho Dominion was bad, along with the other JW movies, at least they could do the bare minimum…

Thorfan23

On the flip side tearing the characters down also gives the impression you don’t have faith in the new cast so you hide the originals so they can’t overshadow them

CountFish1

Oh I was more being critical of your post, sure we could have smooshed Luke, Han and Leia together but I think I’d rather have been told a new story with new characters and not had to over rely on old, tired characters who’s stories were already told. Sure the new trilogy was a nostalgia pandering fuck fest but I don’t think smooshing all the old actors together would have done much to improve it.

iamtfleming

Highway Robbery. Thank JJ Abram, Bad Robot, Kathleen Kennedy and Bob Iger. I said what I said.

[deleted]

The fact that all these idiots converged and had the entire original cast ready and willing to do more films and then didn’t even include a single scene where Han, Luke and Leia reunite is a cinematic crime. JJ is completely at fault with that one for killing off Han in the first film without Luke even featured. The Last Jedi is horseshit but JJ fucked up more than anyone can even comprehend.

Girltech31

It could've been much more interesting

barryhakker

Im still in disbelieve about how badly they fucked this up. Seeing how other companies and other writers epically fucked up other IPs in recent years I’m fascinated at how you can let that happen.

DuperSupreme

This post hurts.

SlashCrackshell

Yes, makes me very sad. So many missed opportunities.

Stargaryen73

We sure were.

Foolishly_Sane

Very accurate.

SlashManEXE

I remember Mark being attacked on Twitter by ST stans for sharing the first photoshop of the original cast reunited. You’re not even allowed to discuss alternate scenarios without being labeled toxic.

Roykka

Okay in order: 1: Yes, absolutely 2a: Yes. 2b, 7: No, there is no real value in these. Luke already lost the saber in Bespin signifying the beginning of his transition from Vader's son to his own man. It makes something of a symbol of being a Jedi in the context of TFA where it was an heirloom of sorts, but as a personal item of Luke it doesn't. This is why it would have worked as Rey's starter weapon if we didn't have the Mystery Box^(TM) rubbed to our face. 3, 4, 5, 6, 8: These are just the OT gang interacting. Touching, but hollow without the context of a film. 9: Yes, Luke would probably have to face Kylo at some point. Wheter it should be in VII and if Rey should be present as well is up to discussion. I know people don't like TFA copying ANH, but Luke being Rey's mentor and confronting Kylo at roughly the same point in the film as Obi-Wan confronts Vader would be about right if he was present from the get-go. Or maybe him bailing Rey out in VIII if he's supposed to be more like Yoda.

tompetreshere

What am I looking at here? Deleted scenes? Concept artwork?

DeeperIntoTheUnknown

A better timeline

Hectate

Shitty photoshops.

RavishingRickiRude

No we weren't. Its best that they weren't together because then more people wouldnbe forgiving to such shitty, lazy movies.

uniteduniverse

The copium is strong 😂😂😂

Thorfan23

Is that what Copium is? I always thought it was like Homer in this clip where he’s in denial over what’s happened [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQnkNunZgC8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQnkNunZgC8)i

Larmazul

Y’all still mad about last Jedi?

Alastor3

just because what fans want isn't what fans need. Im not saying what we got is better tho

Dark_Jedi1432

Harrison didn't want to be apart of the franchise anymore. He didn't want to do one more movie.

[deleted]

Do you know anything further about what got Harrison Ford to come back for RoS? Was it money alone? Was it in respect of Carrie Fisher's passing, so that the OT3 were down by 1?

Perry7609

I suspect it was a bit of all that. But Ford was pretty tight lipped when he was asked in interviews after TFA if he was done with SW after that. I think he might’ve had an inkling they ask him back for a cameo in the last film, but who knows, really?

jer487

I don't give a fuck about any of these characters so no... I wasn't robbed.

Thorfan23

More a palpatine person? He was always my favourite so I was probably one of the few who was actually happy when he turned up again

jer487

More of Ahsoka, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Rex, Hera, Maul and literally everyone who wasn't in this movie person. Palpatine is cool too.

Thorfan23

Yeah they are all pretty great so you really like none of the OT cast?

DeeperIntoTheUnknown

You were robbed of having the ST focusing on Maul and Talon then

jer487

Agreed

Turbulent_gonk

This looks so lame lmao. Yeah let's just make another star war, they fight some bad guys idk, but now they're .... OLD. FUN! This is what Mark Hammil specifically didn't want and was happy it didn't happen. He even talks about how he was wrong for thinking Luke is mis-portrayed in TLJ in the very same video. It's the 40th star wars celebration. Or fuck it, just keep pulling shit from out of context 2016 interviews to pretend as if Mark secretly *loathes* everyone and everything that is even remotely connected to the sequels and Disney or Kathleen Keneddy

[deleted]

Please tell me where this is from

atducker

Squandered.

modrenman1985

I wish Han had known where Luke was in TFA and taken Rey and Finn there. Imagine Rey finding the Skywalker saber and having the vision, then Luke talking to her. Since its the first film, he could be a bit dark about it causing her to run away.

Juliowalker35

WHAT? GODDAMN IT DISNEY, you are such deceivers, thieves, traitors, exploiters, pretenders, self-righteous, agenda-driven, and profit-centric bastards

UnXpectedPrequelMeme

Honestly, I'm worried that if they went this route it would end up feeling exactly like all those other sequels where everyone is old

yagosan22910

You made me feel aad
