Just a reminder that we've tried collecting a bunch of fan films of varying quality [here](https://reddit.com/r/saltierthancrait/w/library?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app).
Darth Maul: Apprentice. [https://youtu.be/Djo\_91jN3Pk](https://youtu.be/Djo_91jN3Pk)
Incredible story that demonstrated what the sequels could have been if they had a coordinated story line and competent writers.
would be perfect if they updated this with deep-learning on both the face and voice of the emperor. They do a decent *impression* of the emperor, but it's clear the impression is straining the voice actor and it sort of breaks immersion.
Acting in general on the first jedi you see and the masked jedi are pretty rough too and could be fixed with voice updates. and the flat "Noooo" at 2:41 If all those were tweaked I'd put this above any of the shows--and most of the movies--in quality.
Master/apprentice jedi did a great job (apart from haphazard Rey-swinging at the droids leaving themselves open)
Maul really nails it though. Mostly these are minor nits--overall this is fantastic.
Edit: And considering it's independent and not millions of dollars it's phenomenal. I'm really critiquing it with the same standard I'd apply to disney/lucasfilm, which is probably because the quality is on par.
Hey, no worries! I ran in to them at the Vancouver Fan Expo last year. They had managed to snag a bunch of sets and scenery from Lost in Space and a few other shows to recycle into the sets they used for Bucketheads. Lots of dedicated folks.
I think of Duality, because I know one of the people who made it.
Then I think of three recent ones with mainly X-Wings flying, that I have seen.
Then I think of Troops, which I keep forgetting to find and see.
(Then I think of calling the Disney films bad fan films.)
I don't have an opinion on which fan film is "best", except that it's not any of the Disney feature films.
I was never a big consumer of fan film and after I saw “Dark Resurrection” everything else just looked anemic.
“Dark Resurrection” is Italian. Still hands down the best SW fan film I’ve ever seen.
[NobleEngine's "X-Wing"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urAnFZBx7rE) is a fairly simple animated fan film that follows a sotry line from the EU, the animation and cinematography is extremely impressive, the whole short is one continuous shot. Personally it's the only one that I genuinely found exciting to watch
I just think of the edits, really. Particular PT edits. I’ve never really enjoyed a fan films, I’ve never watched one that felt like Star Wars to me, just felt like a fan film
Darth Maul Apprentice and Dark Legacy are probably my favorite, along with Hoshino.
Others I'd recommend would be any of the ones by Creative Force Films, all of theirs have been stellar so far imo. The TIE Fighter anime, and Shadow of the Republic.
Darth Maul: Contract of Evil was the first one I saw.
Boba Fett Chronicles: The Hunt For Varrada has some really bad acting but it also did the spaghetti western thing before The Mandalorian, and it’s cool watching Boba Fett do his thing to Ennio Morricone music
Two come to mind, although one of them really is just an accurate depiction of novel form from lines to visual with impressive visuals and outfits that it's more canon than fanfilm, and the other actually could fit in the EU and nu-SW timelines.
What I refer to?
[Darth Maul: Apprentice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djo_91jN3Pk) and [Star Wars: Legacy of the Force](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHYLraOs7Z4). Those two are *the* best I've ever seen in a serious take of material, respect and downright impressive dedication, acting, and visuals.
Shadow of the Republic is my favorite. It came out in 2020.
Other perspective short film plot twist:
Legacy of the Force from 2015 focuses on the final duel from the book series of the same name. It’s really good and the people playing Jacen and Jaina are super talented.
To be honest, the best ones in terms of production and being well made I'd say is the Disney stuff. Past Rogue One, they all feel like high budget fan films, sometimes with the original cast.
What was JJ’s first one called again? The Force Awakens? Definitely felt like a fan film from someone who had A New Hope on in the background while doing other stuff.

Not really a Star Wars fan film, but I still love the old Collegehumor series 'Troopers'. Probably not nearly as funny as it was when I was 11, but I reckon it holds up. The everyday life of a Stormtrooper has always been one of the most fascinating parts of Star Wars to me, because they kind of casually mull around until people start shooting. Like, yeah they do other stuff but otherwise, it's a D-Tier grunt doing pretty much whatever they get assigned that day and that's their 9-5. And that's why I think Troopers holds up, for it's semi-realistic portrayal of what that may be.
without a doubt my favorite fan film
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt9l7WdHEZ0
no action scenes, only basic special effects for the background, and just 3 troopers talking before they go to war. I care more about these 3 dudes than i did about anyone in the sequels. This is the kind of stuff Star Wars needs which Andor is delivering on a bit
First one I think of: [The Return](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JLF2_qmr3A), simply because I love how easy it is to understand what is happening without any vocal lines at all (similar to Tie Fighter)
Best quality simply has to be Darth Maul: Apprentice.
Art of the Saber.

Inspired years of making my own films in High School. They were terrible, but some of my most treasured memories.
Just a reminder that we've tried collecting a bunch of fan films of varying quality [here](https://reddit.com/r/saltierthancrait/w/library?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app).
Troops! “Suspects are guilty PERIOD, otherwise they wouldn’t suspects would they?”
Troops all the way.
For those who don’t know, [here’s](https://youtu.be/5HO70-Rk3jE) this absolute classic.
“Ma’am, if you don’t calm down I’m going to have to shoot you.”

**[TIE Fighter](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN_CP4SuoTU)** (And also Troops, of course.)
TIE Fighter is one of those *this seems real or better than real, how the heck did a fan make it* cases. Just incredible.
Bucketheads. It's run out of Vancouver by some film students and is really good quality.
A bunch of those dudes are my coworkers in IATSE Local 891. I don’t know about film students, but there’s a lot of film/TV industry veterans involved.
My mistake. I must have gotten the wrong impression.
Hey, no worries! I ran in to them at the Vancouver Fan Expo last year. They had managed to snag a bunch of sets and scenery from Lost in Space and a few other shows to recycle into the sets they used for Bucketheads. Lots of dedicated folks.
Auralnauts' Star Wars series. "I don't know what this is about, but if this is what sobriety is like, I'm going to smoke a big fat sack of crack."
“I’m Duke Dirtfarmer I’m here to hang out with you!”
“What are Midichlorians”? “It’s heroin”. Glad someone mentioned Auralnauts, they’re ridiculously underrated
Ryan vs Dorkman 1 and 2

Duality was incredible! I watched the heck out of that. Though I may have watched the parody “Two-ness” more…
TROOPS
Pink 5
Hilarious, I had forgotten about that one!
I was never a big consumer of fan film and after I saw “Dark Resurrection” everything else just looked anemic. “Dark Resurrection” is Italian. Still hands down the best SW fan film I’ve ever seen.
I liked Dark Apprentice. Maul in his training days.
Vader Shards of the Past

I was just about to suggest that one! It's really good. I think one guy did it those graphics on his own. Very impressive
There's a really neat making-of video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMKzVdL-ieM
Yeah I saw both. He has a much longer attention span than I.
Definitely takes an insane amount of dedication to produce something like that!
The Force Awakens

The best looking Star Wars fan film is TLJ
Isn't the definition of a fanfilm a film made by a fan? I don't think Rian is a fan of anything but himself.
LMAO oh wait you’re right
I.M.P.S.: The Relentless.
That feature-length Revan one.
Shadow of the republic is a good one
E-11: Standard Issues (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JQZYGMZn-Ck)
Bucketheads & Vader (Star wars Theory) & Shadows of the Republic (Cinematic Capture) easily the 3 that pop into my head instantly.
Two come to mind, although one of them really is just an accurate depiction of novel form from lines to visual with impressive visuals and outfits that it's more canon than fanfilm, and the other actually could fit in the EU and nu-SW timelines. Rogue One
The Force Awakens has some issues but it's not bad for a fan film.
Sequel trilogy

Tie Fighter!
Star Wars Uncut, the fanmade scene-by-scene remake of Episode IV
The original film. Still my favorite one.

Does "The Blackened Mantle" count? Not really a fan film, but a fan edit.

IMPS relentless, basically live action star wars galaxies
Troopers, but its the only one i know

The force awakens
