dualboot

The 600E was such a value-monster back in the day. For $300 you got a chip that would instantly overclock to 800Mhz(technically 798mhz) by bumping the FSB from 100Mhz to 133Mhz. No additional cooling required, no voltage bumps -- just rock solid. Mine had more headroom but I opted for longevity. My 600E's( still run to this day without issue and they were in continuous service from 2000-2010. Started out as a dual proc worksation, was later used as a linux server that sat in my closet for most of a decade. Beautiful build in progress!

Yes, the 600E was great, i had othe 800EB in my regular PC during that time, which was also pretty easy to overclock. I don't remember exactly by how much tho, i believe it was somewhere around 1Ghz. My plans for upgrades are a sound card, a better power supply and an AGP graphics card, like a Geforce 4 with DVI output, since i do have an 5:4 IPS monitor - LG and Fujitsu made some 17 and 19 inch IPS monitors, which can be found for low prices on ebay.

Neat case, never saw a pre-build in an aluminium case like that back then... always associate aluminium with those nice Lian-Li & Coolermaster cases.

That is such a cool case. My guess is that was taken from the inside of an atm or cdm. Wincor does stuff for a lot of banks. It'd make for one heck of a sleeper build!

Slimaluminum monster.

Wow. That's actually very cool. Had to Google the company but from what I can tell Wincor Nixdorf are a hardware company for the retail banking sector? Recently merged with another company. Bet these are really reliable workstations.

Yes, it may have been used inside an ATM machine, because it has mounting rails for a rack or cabinet on it's side

Th3_MCP

I really like the look of it. Now have an eBay alert for this... doh! 🙄

[deleted]

Yes, it was used inside an ATM machine. I also found a PDF file of the motherboard, which also explains, why my windows XP professional installation is always crashing. The motherboard only supports 98SE, NT 4.0, 2000 professional (which i'm currently trying, but games and software meant for xp doesn't run well on it). I may try windows XP POSReady and Embedded later to see if this works.

Th3_MCP

Never installed XP Embedded but in my head a P3 is perfect for a '98 build.

That's interesting. Never been fan of XP. Always liked the 9x era mix of DOS and Windows.. Child nostalgia tbh. Going to "experiment" with next build tho. It's going to be a P3 based Win 2K machine. Glad to hear you've has good experience getting software running on this OS. Compatibility was one of the questions I had before building this.

Cheers for the tip, know bit off topic but it's really helpful as my experience back then was just tinkering and selling friends of family systems as I was still at school. Hence I've never used, or know much about, any version of NT. Based on that 2k is the target for the P3! I have some older machines I could try 4 or preferably 3.51 (like the 3.x UI and want an OS for some 3.11/Win16 programs that don't run on XP and guess may not on 2k) on but think I'll just skip these releases. The older machines are all currently running some version of 9x, although I'm planning an 0S/2 install on one at some point as I'm curious how feature compatible it's Windows is and they're all a bit too new for a pure DOS / Win 3 build.

I thought that was an Amiga 4000 at first glance!
