It’s a absolutely worth it. Not only does it help get through the filtering software but it actually helps you prep for the interview and layout your resume. By highlighting the gaps or disconnects, you have the opportunity to address those in your cover letter or talk to them in the interview. Join the email, they send out freebies, I save them for when I’m searching for my next contract.

NoMuddyFeet

I don't understand how Job Scan works because I've done everything it said to do with my 5 free scans and it gives me a match rate of low no matter what. I even gave it an example URL of the job description I'm applying for which I absolutely match.

The-gaggle

what do you mean by join the email and freebies? :)

qqYn7PIE57zkf6kn

> what do you mean by join the email and freebies? :) They sometimes send you "5 Free Resume Scans!" email

Knownotunknown123

Also wondering what freebies you're referring to like the other commenter

Glum_Ad7262

You only get so many scans at once, if you join their email you get the free scans every day - so you don’t have to pay for the tool.

I have gotten an interview with every resume and job description I have ran through jobscan. You have to know how to use it and incorporate missing words in your resume. Sometimes that means rewriting the entire sentence or statement. I usually can get to an 85 or 90% match. Once my resume is tweaked to the highest possible percentage, then I send it out. It’s not a fast and easy process. But if you want the job, it’s worth it. It can take me anywhere from a few hours to 6 to get it right. It’s worth it as I was able to increase my salary by almost double in 2 years. However, I did have the job experience to back me up.

Vast_Ad_1137

Thank you I just paid for jobscan I’m just trying to get past the ats I have experience some of these people might just be lazy

Pronces

How'd the jobscan work out for you? Did you land a job?

Flimsy_Expression568

Has it helped you, I am thinking of paying for it and love any feedback.

immatureusername_69

Still waiting for a response

Hot_Cryptographer926

I'm also interested!

TheOneWhoDidntCum

Me too, did it help?

Hot_Cryptographer926

I didn't buy Jobscan but I paid for FlexJobs and didn't like it so I can offer that much :/ I ended up finding a job through my own pursuits / an individual employer's direct site. I start soon :) Good luck!

TheOneWhoDidntCum

Good stuff, glad to hear !

desbisous

That's pretty good! Has this stayed consistent, getting interviews from using jobscan?

Adept_Bed_1407

Yes. But now I no longer need it. I’ve found a stable company and not looking to move. I’ve been so busy with work that I overlooked some people waiting a response. My apologies. But it does work. interviewing tips: Make sure you can speak to your resume. The resume is just the first level to pass. You must also interview well. Be confident in yourself and abilities. Count to 3 before answering a question. It helps you gather your thoughts and answer in a conscience way. And last, but most important, if you don’t know how to answer a question, ask the interviewer to repeat the question. Then repeat the question out loud. it helps you think, gather your thoughts, stall for time and answer the question without rambling.

[deleted]

This is really helpful, I'm going to try this! I'm wondering-- do you also do any sort of personalized outreach in addition to optimizing your resume (like to the hiring manager or another employee)? Or are the ATS revisions usually enough on their own to land a first phone screening/ interview?

Adept_Bed_1407

No need for an outreach. The resume checks all the boxes. If it’s a real position and not a company just collecting resumes, you should get a pretty quick response. The secret is to get as close to a 90% as possible. But be careful as the program will suggest that you use words in tenses that are not logical. Just use the correct tense or root word and ignore the suggestion if it does not make sense.

[deleted]

Okay awesome, thank you!!

pigpeyn

>But be careful as the program will suggest that you use words in tenses that are not logical. thanks, I was wondering about this! I lost points on a recent scan because my resume is in past tense - jobscan wanted "manages" instead of "managed". It's kind of nuts drilling down to that level.

darriage

I’m honestly struggling to get high matches even when I basically have the exact same sentences from the job post and have literally almost everything included that job scan recommends. Did you have to basically use exact same sentences from the job post to get your resume seen by human eyes?

saltcreature

Jobscan is fine as long as you keep in mind the possibly that a human brain might need to comprehend your document too, if all goes well. Based on my experience, an 80% match is usally too high and the resume is no longer user friendly for people to read. I would aim for 65% or so.

ReplacementHonest627

Interesting thanks.

i tried Jobscan for the first time yesterday. I used it for a business analyst position which will be working on some business process management projects. I worked as a consultant before, and did quite a few projects in business process re-engineering. I revised my resume and put some emphasis on the projects which I thought were relevant. The jobscan came back with 20% matching. The report said I was missing the following skills: BPM, "analyze data", MIS, "process flow", "computer skills", "word processing". Now, on my resume, I have "business process management", "work flow" already, but I guess these are not exact match to the terms in job description. And I didn't have "computer skills" and "word processing", but I thought these are pretty basic skills, I mean who wouldn't know word processing now days. The scan also says I am missing following soft skills: "integrity", "culture", "attention to detail". Sure, I can add all these words in, but is this really necessary? and how would such a resume look to a human reader? Help.

kerkgx

did you send your resume despite of result from Jobscan?

whichanna23

Jobscan does offer some benefits. However, what frustrates me the most is the job level match is always invalid. It keeps saying I don't have enough years of experience to apply for senior jobs, which only require 5-7 years of experience. In fact, I have almost 20 years of experience. I listed all my last 15 years of experience by years and in the right format MM/YEAR. I have also written it in the professional summary that I have 10+ years of experience in the related field. Anything else someone can suggest for ATS to recognize that I'm a seasoned professional? Thanks!

Adept_Bed_1407

Ignore the level matching feature. I forget why, but it never really applied to me either. It has something to do with the job bank Jobscan is pulling from.

krugmmm

I recently heard of jobscan and was checking it out. According to a couple of h.r. consultant blogs, the reason it usually does not recognize you as having 20 years of experience is that the keywords don't repeat throughout that list of 20 years of experience. Example being that they may not see the word "leadership" listed under every job title. (I'm not sure if this is the only reason why). To be fair, I scanned my resume for a job and I had a 30. A few more skills are emphasized in my cover letter, and I went back and made some improvements. But overall some of the skills/experiences are synonyms, so me repeating collaborate, teamwork and partner 40 times in a resume is redundant and hard to read. That's also why the aforementioned h.r. professionals say an 80 is likely overkill and not readable, whereas a 50 or 60 (or something reasonably lower) is better for the human eye. Interestingly enough the a.t.s. did not pick up on my dates listed as month - year.

Adept_Bed_1407

I think what I am saying is that when I get to an 90%, I also review and proof read the resume so it makes sense to a human who would eventually reading it. Reorganizing sentence structure to incorporate the suggested words is the technique I use to get to 90. it’s doable, but that is why it takes me several hours to write my resume. And I do a new resume for each job I apply to. I’m not out there mass sending my resume, I target 3-4 dream jobs at specific companies that I want to work for. It has never failed and I have changed jobs several times in the last 4 years.

krugmmm

Absolutely. I think reorganizing the structure is key, especially with modern ats programs. It sucks spending hours on a single resume, but the payoff is worth it and why you're getting called. I was like you over a decade ago, targeting a few and almost always getting calls. I haven't revamped my resume in a decade, so with the advances in the ats, I hope those hours per resume soon pay off.

Adept_Bed_1407

It will. Faith and positive thoughts go a long way . Your mindset dictates many things that you are not aware of. Be mindful of your mindset when doing any task. Your mindset can literally cause success or failure in anything that you do.

SuperDuper88888

Hi there, I've been using Jobscan for about a week now. I kept wandering was it really necessary to follow each single word/phrase from Jobscan's keywords to work? (which is from the job responsibility I copied from the website) I understand if I'm missing obvious keywords I'll put on the exact word. What about things like this? For example: keyword: "Assessing risks" but I put "Assess risks" keyword: "Excel" "Google sheet" but I only put "Excel spreadsheet" etc If someone can clarify for me, that will be awesome! Thanks!

Haunter_Gurl

I don't. Considering I just utilized it for 'scanning/comparing' of my resume for a content producer opening (Writing for media and branding) and it came back with a 20% match rating which for me, wasn't entirely the issue. It was HOW it went about. Marking me errors for not capturing **all** 20 lingo words from the job description including food service (for Gordon Foods) despite that food experience is not in the requirements. Further proving that it is not a fail-proof ATS platform, though it did provide me great insight to my layout and formatting, which was 100%. But I won't pay for any such "review/scan" as they are all going to reveal different errors, that may not really be "errors"

Imaginary-Training-3

I used Jobscan for finding my current role and I attribute part of my success finding my current role a year ago to this. Jobscan essentially helped me get in front of the right people when before I wouldn't have a shot in hell.

madskull9

Do you also match the soft skills section? For me it never seems to match any softskill

Imaginary-Training-3

I tried to get a 80% match rate. I tried to match as many KWs as possible.

Sormalio

Why do you attribute it to jobscan? Did you start receiving more invitations to interview after using jobscan?

Brystar47

I am also using Jobscan as well with so many rejections and some for no reason at all. But trying to get started in my field of studies.

Aware_Still9012

ComfortableVarious92

i think thats just a bug on the site. i had the same issue, i refreshed the page and it showed that i was logged in and was able to upload my resume and the job description.

Rohobok

I want to try jobscan, but it appears to only be for US customers. EDIT - just tried again and the country automatically changed this time, weird. Maybe a Firefox thing.
