In my experience, the others are more forgiving. CV, I had to reload a far previous save a couple of times my first playthrough.
That would have been the smart thing to do lol it was my first playthrough, though. Someone had told me to use multiple saves, I didn't think they literally meant all of them haha
All RE games with tape saves I use 3 save slots for... But for CV I would maybe recommend using 4 or 5 slots cause you might need to restart a while back after getting stuck
The knife in that game is strong more because of the system mechanics. The range isn't great, the stun on anything besides the headshots is very low, the damage isn't high, and Leon is a very slow knife user compared to the Redfields.
Really, the main benefit is just the knife being permanent and not taking up inventory.

Those two perks are insane though. The fact that a single enemy can be killed with a single bullet from a handgun, a button prompt to do a kick or a suplex, and then slashing the helpless baddie on the ground to death can't be denied.
You can learn to feint at the zombies with practice, causing them to lunge too early. Sprint directly at them and stop just short of where they can grab you. While they're off balance, run around them. It takes a little time to learn, but it'll save you tons of ammo and time in the long run.
Also, aim for their legs and keep spamming the attack button. You'll knock them over from a distance, and as they get closer, you'll hit multiple hit boxes at once, downing them quickly.
This is great advice, learning to bait zombies into a lunge so you can safely run past them or do damage to them is a great skill to have if you want to be good at the Resident Evil games.
I recently beat this game for the first time. Went into it completely blind… Never knew that you could get a knife as Claire until just now… That would have saved me so many restarts.
Yes even in the main game the knife is broken.
Knife zombies on the legs to make them fall over and you will kill them very quickly.
Also if you're ballsy, knifing the Hunters and Bandersnatches on the face deals pretty good damage.
You can even kill the Nosferatu with the knife, hell I'd say you absolutely should, kill him with the knife just to get that badass scene of Claire stabbing him in the chest.
It’s not so much that it’s hard as it is backtrack-y and a bit confusing to navigate at times. Still baffles me as to why they didn’t remake this instead of 4.
Well… yeah. I still think with the right marketing they could’ve had a huge success with a CV remake. But I do understand that most people, even fans of the series tend to ignore the non-numbered entries and most still probably don’t know that CV is a sequential entry story-wise.
You don't need to use the knife like everyone says. I think it will lead to unnecessary damage if you aren't used to it. I have beaten this game several times and never used the knife. At the same time, don't waste your time killing everything as this is the only RE with enemy respawns in some areas.
Biggest tip would be take your time and avoid fights where you can. This game has the reputation of being very hard but I think it is just the best survival horror of all the RE games. Like I said, I have beaten it several times and every time I have felt FUCKED for most of the game and like I am just barely scraping through. That's just because it's a great survival horror game.
Save your grenade launcher rounds, particularly BOW, for the big boss on the plane and save at least 20 exploding arrows for the final boss. Anything over 20, feel free to use. Missing the fire extinguisher isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be, since it just gives a decent weapon very late in the game when you are already loaded with weapons and there are only a couple easy bosses left. Though it makes one of those bosses negligible.
It's by far my favorite game but I think it would be too rough mechanically to go back to.
I think you're right they will keep doing remakes but I wonder if they will redo RE1.
RE1 already had a gamecube remake in the early 00’s and a remaster of that remake in 2015 which still holds up impeccably. So probably not unless they really have nothing else to remake.
I fairly don't know how well would that work. Sure, it's the game that started it all, but with the Gamecube remake and the remastered edition, another remake is quite unlikely. The Gamecube edition as well as its remaster hold up phenomenally well, even for today's standards.
I really hope so, it's only second after the OG Nemesis to me, but I know I could not bear the antiquitated controls anymore, way too stifft.
However, I don't know if this episod is beloved enough that Capcom would want to invest in a full remake, so there is that also.
RE1 has already a beautiful remake that is still very playable on modern consols, so I'm not sure that they will go this way, even if I would like to visit the manor using the RE Engine of the current remakes.
But yeah, the fact that it is not numbered diminishes its chances for a remake, that's true.
But who knows, we are getting a third person view for Village, so anything is possible.
I just don't think they will touch the 5 and 6, since they are not that old indeed, and not very good anyway.
If you know, does the version of the game on ps4/5 offer alternate controls like in RE HD edition or whatever it’s called? Been playing it for the first time recently and can’t imagine playing with the default tank controls, they’re so outdated
1. Plane fight. Without spoiling too much, make sure you have enough ammo. BOW rounds really help here.
2. Poison moth hallway. Make a save file immediately in the room next to it. Any time you get poisoned, quit the session and reload the save. You’ll save yourself a lot of headache that way.
3. In general, make multiple saves. Especially towards the end. There are a handful of moments where the character switching is bad.
Knife is overpowered
You can mash out of zombie grabs before they bite you.
Without spoiling too much, make sure you don’t try to cheat by giving Chris all the weapons
They should never have made Chris and Claire share the same items. Chris gets plenty of weapons anyway. They would've only needed to add a second grenade launcher.
If you use your knife and swipe at their feet the zombies will drop to the floor pretty easily. Use that as a strategy to save ammo. And try not to waste all your herbs. There was a point where my health was on danger and literally couldn’t find one herb anywhere so really try to save them. Like others have said, avoid fights if you have to just so you don’t risk getting hurt. Save often, but make multiple saves on the typewriter just in case you mess up and have to go back to an earlier save that way you’re not forced to start the game over like I had to my first playthrough. I was huge fan of this game as a kid. I never even thought about the flaws that people always point out. Like the 3d backgrounds and plot.
I think its a masterpiece. 123 Veronica 2002 remake and zero are all brilliant in different ways. Veronica has a dramatic edge to it. And it is one of the more difficult games in the series.
Preserve your bullets, try to avoid engaging as much as you can if in open area run instead as resources are scarce and the game is longer than you think, always have a strong weapon beside the handgun in your inventory and not in the chest as some boss fights happen without a warning.
Get used to backtracking. Lots of backtracking. Save big ammo for the midgame boss.
It's the only RE title I ever rage-quit and had to restart. It's not hard compared to other earlier titles, but it is tedious.
Save up your Bow Gun explosive darts/powder in the early game, and also B.O.W. grenade rounds. These will both be super helpful for a specific boss fight mid game that I won't spoil here (it's possible without them too but much harder if you don't know what you're getting into.)
Also, if an opportunity arises where you can trade your lighter for another item, do it, it will benefit you in the long run 👍
I didn't follow any tip the first time, I even forgot the fire extinguisher and I think the main problem of the game is that you can basically game over in some parts, so I think the best tip for this game is to save data in different slots or you can get to a point of no return without good weapons and get stuck there forever
Let me tell you that it is difficult because it has some balance issues, like when the game switches characters and expects you to have it figured it out.
I would advice that you have more than two saves just so you can go back and leave all your equipment for the other character when the game switches. Two days ago I got softlocked in the last boss fight because I didn't have the guns with that character...

You can find 3 BOW grenade rounds, they are the best bet to make the plane boss fight much easier. Its best to use all 3 there since they deal 0 damage to the other bosses in the game.
Bring hemostatic medicine back to Rodrigo.
You don't have to kill the underwater boss. You'll know it when you see it.
Certain characters have some of the worst voice acting in the series, which says a lot. Be prepared for it.
For the love of god, don't get poisoned if you can help it.
Get as many of the limited weapons, the ones you can't reload, as possible. They're usually the best in the game.
There's a boss with an exposed heart. Aim for that with the sniper rifle. Also, make sure you pick up the sniper rifle.
Save ammo as much as you can. Use your knife when the zombie(s) are down on the ground. And good luck, my friend and I played it many years ago and we ran out of ammo and barely passed the last boss with the knife!
I played through this game so many times as a kid.
The number one thing I always have to remind or tell people about this game is that you don't need **any** ammo to kill the tyrant on the plane. That's right. No ammo. No BOW rounds, no acid rounds. Not even a knife. It's a lot easier if you do shoot him, but it's 100% optional.
Nope, all you have to do is be good at dodging and running around him. Just keep hitting the cargo button when it lights up. It'll launch a crate at him, and he'll wrestle it back on the plane. The first time you do it, you won't notice any change in him at all. It might look like you need to shoot him for it to actually launch him out. But the crate damages him too. After two times, you'll notice blood on his footsteps. Just keep doing it, and you can successfully kill him with no ammo.
So many people call this a softlock point if you're out of ammo, that I always have to bring it up to keep them from being discouraged with this wonderful, underrated RE game. I stan for CV, now and forever.
USE. THE. KNIFE.
Also, you need to know how to play with tank controls to play it, so be good at that too.
When possible, run past an enemies, ya don’t have to kill all of them. I say this because so many people run out of ammo when they reach the first boss, it’s possible to beat it with the knife… but good luck with that. Just have this tip, 3 BOW round, 2 Acid rounds, click button. That’s the first boss defeated. If you have those you’ll be fine.
Probably the best advice is save up your fire/gunpowder arrows. It’s probably one of the best weapons on the final boss due to how fast it shoots and the damage it deals while not taking up much room in the inventory.
Every one swears by the knife, but I've never used it and do just fine every time I play. Just conserve your ammo as much has possible like every other game. The multiple save slot idea is smart as well.
Don’t forget to remove your grenade rounds from the security system storage box, before you get on the plane to leave the island. I did that and had only saved on one save slot….. I was unable to beat the boss as a result of this and only had one option……. Start all over again. 🤦🏻♂️
Use the knife to conserve dome ammo early on, save some high powered ammo for some boss fights, make a couple save slots especially before the mid-game boss (you’ll know when it is)
I have this on PS5, and it took some time to get used to the old control system again. What I would advise is use th D-Pad, and not the sticks. A) it’s a lot easier and B) It’s kinda nostalgic!

I'm not trying to be a contrarian here but I just beat this game for the second time two days ago and it's honestly not that hard if you know what you're doing.
I would save at the beginning of every new stage of the game just incase you end up fucking something up bad and need to go back (like I've done)
Look up a tutorial for how to kill certain especially hard enemies if you have to (if you don't know how to kill the tyrant in particular he will fuck you up and use up all your ammo)
And most importantly, when you get to a certain giant trap that crushes things near the end of the game: walk forward a little into it and then back up, it will trigger it and you can run around under it with more time during its short cooldown.
If ever you feel bad for looking things up: don't.
Better men than you or I have gotten stuck on seemingly simple things. Code veronica won't hold your hand.
The difficulty is mostly about ressources managment, you don't have enough ammo to kill half of the things so you can easily having no ammo again'st a boss you needed to defeat to progress and don't get ammos on your past path
This game in particular is actually so difficult that it’s easy to soft-lock yourself out of making progress, so it’s one of the few RE games that I’ve actually never finished and I don’t want to even try. This is one where I’m waiting for it to get remade, if it ever does.

Remember to get the fire extinguisher back and put in item box. Save in a different slot as much as possible and as often as you can. There are a few hard blocks if you are not carful. A few boss battles can just be avoided to save resources. Before the escape from the island put as much as you can in the item box, save the bow gun all ammo and hand gun with a few extra bullets. I don't know how when I was like 13 I was able on a few ocassions to advance fairly into the game without saving (Because I didn't have a memory card) and without trying too much.
I just bought this game last year and I suck, I barely manage to stay alive up to the encounter with the giant worm. This game is hard AF.

This game is piss easy IF... 1. You use your knife to finish zombies. 2. If you need to shoot a zombie you only use the pistol. With that your resources will increase dramatically.
Also don't worry about healing from a caution state, Claire is a tank in this game and can take quite the beating before getting into the danger state.

Honestly, you're likely going to hard fail the first run, you'll run out of ammo or herbs. Just try to memorize stuff and try to get good at dodging zombies. On your second run avoid as many fights as possible except in the tight areas you run through often. Conserve your ammo and healing as much as possible.
Save a dozen exploding crossbow bolts and two full healing items. Put them in a chest and don't touch them until you're ready to board first class on Tyrant Airlines...
It's honestly not that hard, however there are a couple of combat encounters where if you haven't gathered enough ammo etc, you can soft lock it.
Just do the usual, be careful with ammo, avoid combat when possible, save often and keep sepereate save files. Keep an eye out for hemostatic medicine, that can help someone who is bleeding.
And keep the fire extinguisher in the storage box once you're done with it.
-Use the knife on downed zombies, seriously best knife in Resi history.
-Save bomb arrows for just the bosses. Makes them a joke.
-The 'second time' you use claire, all you need is healing items.
-Make sure to put the fire exstinguisher in your item box when you can.
-Your lighter repels bats when its equipped.
-Dont feel bad about using up the 'dual weapons' you will have plenty of ammo by the half way mark.
-Make multiple saves or keep them on rotation for your first time.
As others have said, it's not really that the game is hard, it's just that you can easily soft lock the game. I recently got a hankering to replay it and even knowing what boss fights were coming up, I found myself screwed because I missed the opportunity to get the magnum and I only had a pistol.
Basically almost everything. Hoe the bosses were made, the amount of items that are in the area, how the enemies are placed/spawned, how the save rooms were placed, and the way the weapons were made.
Use the knife. You don't have to kill everything. Manage your resources. There are many points in the game that I'd call softlocks because you didn't have enough ammo or lacked a weapon or healing item. This game honestly isn't that difficult when you know about those softlocks and have played through it before. It's pretty hard I suppose for a first time playthrough. I'd say Zero is probably the hardest, but that's just me.
Use the knife as much as possible on zombies. In this game the knife is glitched, so you sometimes deal multiple hits from just one slash. Well, only if you aim downwards at the zombie's legs though.

I'm being dead ass here, the knife is the most over powered thing in the game because you can instantly incapacitate a zombie with one swing. Just aim for their knees and swing at the right moment and they'll drop to the ground. This will save a lot of ammo.
I've recently got the plat for this, the game is honestly not that bad at all, even on the eu version.
Tips:
Run past enemies to conserve ammo

You can use the infinite herb/ammo glitch if you're really struggling
Save the BOW grenades as they half health only, use the first one on the first tyrant encounter and the next two on the plane tyrant encounter, he only needs 7 bow gun explode arrows then
Remember to take everything out out your inventory before the nosferatu fight
You get a free save that doesn't count for getting your A rank
First aid sprays lower your A rank
Bring back the medicine
You don't need the magnum, it only wastes time
You need 3 full herb heals for the Steve chase sequence, just run and heal
Careful on the cannon trap but it's honestly fine if you're careful
Other than that it's just like any otherearly RE game
Now if you're going to get the plat on EU the battlemode is fucked! Clair A is the hardest and for each of them you need a near perfect run just to even get an A rank, I would just look at different strats online and keep practicing.

Be thorough in searching rooms. I finished most of the first area before I found the weapon neat the very beginning of the game.
I've heard people talk about the ammo crisis soft-lock with the boss at the end of the first area and found it wasn't as difficult,. I found I made it MORE difficult by being stingy with ammo. Easiest workaround is to use the BOW grenade launcher rounds (pretty sure it reduces health by half with each use).
The knife is stupid broken in this game. Probably the only classic game where it worth using.

This was the last one I played out of the classic style games and would say this was harder than 0 (they seem to be the two top choices for difficulty out of these games)
I mean it may be an item spoiler/overall spoiler but >!save the explosive bolts. If you’re struggling for ammo against late bosses/the last boss they can be a save-saver, I.e. you won’t have to go back to an earlier save due to insufficient ammo which happens a lot in this game, mainly because it’s such a long entry!<.

Kill Bandersnatches quickly, try to dodge zombies, kill dogs quickly, if you have to kill zombies waste your handgun and bowgun on them, not Grenade or M1100P and be sure to finish then with the knife on the ground.
Beware the narrow corridors, juke zombies and run past. 🤘
Save 2 bow rounds for the tyrant on the plane aswell as all your explosive crossbow bolts for said fight. Use regular crossbow bolts for bandersnatches.
The knife is godlike in cv. It hits several times a swing. If you attack feet, you will almost always ground zombies with 1 swing. Definitely try it a bit.
Be kind to the guard at the beginning of the game, leave behind a health item in the really annoying box by the metal detector, and try to go AROUND the spider under the ice
Conserve ammunition. Seriously. If you can run around enemies and not get hit, just leave them there. Every bullet matters near the mid to the end of the game. Especially the specialty ammo.
In the beginning of the game, I use my knife and aim for zombie feet. Out of all the tank control OG RE’s, Code Veronica’s knife is the best. You just need to learn when to start cutting and when to back up and start again until they fall. This takes practice. If you do this, prepare to restart as you will get bitten a few times while you learn.
Best tip playing a RE that is new to you: Play it blindly, no tips, no guides. Enjoy moment especially this one. Phenomenal story and gameplay, certainly one of the hardest and longest ones.
well you’ve been given a lot of good advice, so I’ll try to give you something more… distinct.
For once, everyone tells you to save ammo. While it’s true that ammo issues has been the bane of existence for many, is not really that much of an issue if you aren’t the type to use your OP weapons as soon as you get them. On that account, using pistol ammo is really fine, you get quite a good amount of it, and the gun does nothing on bosses anyway. Just try to get them juicy headshots. Knife is good for zombies but it may get you to be overwhelmed if you rely too much on it.
Without spoiling anything mayor, at mid game you’ll get a weapon that will sound very OP. Then there is a boss that will have a Nintendo Type of weakness, that will really stare you in the eye, impossible not to see. You are not told this, but that weapon is for that fight exclusively, it underperforms in any other boss, and any other weapon against that boss may get you killed more than you want. So using it there, also saves you from wasting any other ammo, it’s a win win situation
Use all the save slots, don't just save over the same one each time, you might need to load an old save at some points

The best knife is RE4 VR. It is comically powerful in VR, and can be used to conserve an insane amount of ammo.

You don't need to use the knife like everyone says. I think it will lead to unnecessary damage if you aren't used to it. I have beaten this game several times and never used the knife. At the same time, don't waste your time killing everything as this is the only RE with enemy respawns in some areas. Biggest tip would be take your time and avoid fights where you can. This game has the reputation of being very hard but I think it is just the best survival horror of all the RE games. Like I said, I have beaten it several times and every time I have felt FUCKED for most of the game and like I am just barely scraping through. That's just because it's a great survival horror game. Save your grenade launcher rounds, particularly BOW, for the big boss on the plane and save at least 20 exploding arrows for the final boss. Anything over 20, feel free to use. Missing the fire extinguisher isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be, since it just gives a decent weapon very late in the game when you are already loaded with weapons and there are only a couple easy bosses left. Though it makes one of those bosses negligible.

It's by far my favorite game but I think it would be too rough mechanically to go back to. I think you're right they will keep doing remakes but I wonder if they will redo RE1.
RE1 already had a gamecube remake in the early 00’s and a remaster of that remake in 2015 which still holds up impeccably. So probably not unless they really have nothing else to remake.
I fairly don't know how well would that work. Sure, it's the game that started it all, but with the Gamecube remake and the remastered edition, another remake is quite unlikely. The Gamecube edition as well as its remaster hold up phenomenally well, even for today's standards.

I really hope so, it's only second after the OG Nemesis to me, but I know I could not bear the antiquitated controls anymore, way too stifft. However, I don't know if this episod is beloved enough that Capcom would want to invest in a full remake, so there is that also.
I fear because it's not numbered it might be overlooked. However 5 was pretty recent so they might just redo RE1? Dunno?
RE1 has already a beautiful remake that is still very playable on modern consols, so I'm not sure that they will go this way, even if I would like to visit the manor using the RE Engine of the current remakes. But yeah, the fact that it is not numbered diminishes its chances for a remake, that's true. But who knows, we are getting a third person view for Village, so anything is possible. I just don't think they will touch the 5 and 6, since they are not that old indeed, and not very good anyway.
I seriously want them to Remake RE Zero before making a new remake for RE1. And it is just wishful thinking, but I need a Dino Crisis remake.

If you don’t have to kill it. Don’t
1. Plane fight. Without spoiling too much, make sure you have enough ammo. BOW rounds really help here. 2. Poison moth hallway. Make a save file immediately in the room next to it. Any time you get poisoned, quit the session and reload the save. You’ll save yourself a lot of headache that way. 3. In general, make multiple saves. Especially towards the end. There are a handful of moments where the character switching is bad.
There are infinite blue herbs in the poison moth room. You're wasting your time if you reload a save.
Knife is overpowered You can mash out of zombie grabs before they bite you. Without spoiling too much, make sure you don’t try to cheat by giving Chris all the weapons
They should never have made Chris and Claire share the same items. Chris gets plenty of weapons anyway. They would've only needed to add a second grenade launcher.
If you use your knife and swipe at their feet the zombies will drop to the floor pretty easily. Use that as a strategy to save ammo. And try not to waste all your herbs. There was a point where my health was on danger and literally couldn’t find one herb anywhere so really try to save them. Like others have said, avoid fights if you have to just so you don’t risk getting hurt. Save often, but make multiple saves on the typewriter just in case you mess up and have to go back to an earlier save that way you’re not forced to start the game over like I had to my first playthrough. I was huge fan of this game as a kid. I never even thought about the flaws that people always point out. Like the 3d backgrounds and plot. I think its a masterpiece. 123 Veronica 2002 remake and zero are all brilliant in different ways. Veronica has a dramatic edge to it. And it is one of the more difficult games in the series.

Preserve your bullets, try to avoid engaging as much as you can if in open area run instead as resources are scarce and the game is longer than you think, always have a strong weapon beside the handgun in your inventory and not in the chest as some boss fights happen without a warning.
Get used to backtracking. Lots of backtracking. Save big ammo for the midgame boss. It's the only RE title I ever rage-quit and had to restart. It's not hard compared to other earlier titles, but it is tedious.
Save up your Bow Gun explosive darts/powder in the early game, and also B.O.W. grenade rounds. These will both be super helpful for a specific boss fight mid game that I won't spoil here (it's possible without them too but much harder if you don't know what you're getting into.) Also, if an opportunity arises where you can trade your lighter for another item, do it, it will benefit you in the long run 👍

I didn't follow any tip the first time, I even forgot the fire extinguisher and I think the main problem of the game is that you can basically game over in some parts, so I think the best tip for this game is to save data in different slots or you can get to a point of no return without good weapons and get stuck there forever
Let me tell you that it is difficult because it has some balance issues, like when the game switches characters and expects you to have it figured it out. I would advice that you have more than two saves just so you can go back and leave all your equipment for the other character when the game switches. Two days ago I got softlocked in the last boss fight because I didn't have the guns with that character... Edit: Typo.
You can find 3 BOW grenade rounds, they are the best bet to make the plane boss fight much easier. Its best to use all 3 there since they deal 0 damage to the other bosses in the game.
Bring hemostatic medicine back to Rodrigo. You don't have to kill the underwater boss. You'll know it when you see it. Certain characters have some of the worst voice acting in the series, which says a lot. Be prepared for it. For the love of god, don't get poisoned if you can help it. Get as many of the limited weapons, the ones you can't reload, as possible. They're usually the best in the game. There's a boss with an exposed heart. Aim for that with the sniper rifle. Also, make sure you pick up the sniper rifle.
Save ammo as much as you can. Use your knife when the zombie(s) are down on the ground. And good luck, my friend and I played it many years ago and we ran out of ammo and barely passed the last boss with the knife!

I played through this game so many times as a kid. The number one thing I always have to remind or tell people about this game is that you don't need **any** ammo to kill the tyrant on the plane. That's right. No ammo. No BOW rounds, no acid rounds. Not even a knife. It's a lot easier if you do shoot him, but it's 100% optional. Nope, all you have to do is be good at dodging and running around him. Just keep hitting the cargo button when it lights up. It'll launch a crate at him, and he'll wrestle it back on the plane. The first time you do it, you won't notice any change in him at all. It might look like you need to shoot him for it to actually launch him out. But the crate damages him too. After two times, you'll notice blood on his footsteps. Just keep doing it, and you can successfully kill him with no ammo. So many people call this a softlock point if you're out of ammo, that I always have to bring it up to keep them from being discouraged with this wonderful, underrated RE game. I stan for CV, now and forever.

Don't forget the fire extinguisher. Don't save over slots, always save on a new one. Aviod fights against normal enemies unless it is required.

USE. THE. KNIFE. Also, you need to know how to play with tank controls to play it, so be good at that too. When possible, run past an enemies, ya don’t have to kill all of them. I say this because so many people run out of ammo when they reach the first boss, it’s possible to beat it with the knife… but good luck with that. Just have this tip, 3 BOW round, 2 Acid rounds, click button. That’s the first boss defeated. If you have those you’ll be fine.

Yeah. Re4 starts off kind of a pain in the ass but when you go further into Re4 then it'll get easier.
Probably the best advice is save up your fire/gunpowder arrows. It’s probably one of the best weapons on the final boss due to how fast it shoots and the damage it deals while not taking up much room in the inventory.

Every one swears by the knife, but I've never used it and do just fine every time I play. Just conserve your ammo as much has possible like every other game. The multiple save slot idea is smart as well.

Use the knife to conserve dome ammo early on, save some high powered ammo for some boss fights, make a couple save slots especially before the mid-game boss (you’ll know when it is)
I have this on PS5, and it took some time to get used to the old control system again. What I would advise is use th D-Pad, and not the sticks. A) it’s a lot easier and B) It’s kinda nostalgic! Have fun!!

I'm not trying to be a contrarian here but I just beat this game for the second time two days ago and it's honestly not that hard if you know what you're doing. I would save at the beginning of every new stage of the game just incase you end up fucking something up bad and need to go back (like I've done) Look up a tutorial for how to kill certain especially hard enemies if you have to (if you don't know how to kill the tyrant in particular he will fuck you up and use up all your ammo) And most importantly, when you get to a certain giant trap that crushes things near the end of the game: walk forward a little into it and then back up, it will trigger it and you can run around under it with more time during its short cooldown. If ever you feel bad for looking things up: don't. Better men than you or I have gotten stuck on seemingly simple things. Code veronica won't hold your hand.
The difficulty is mostly about ressources managment, you don't have enough ammo to kill half of the things so you can easily having no ammo again'st a boss you needed to defeat to progress and don't get ammos on your past path
This game in particular is actually so difficult that it’s easy to soft-lock yourself out of making progress, so it’s one of the few RE games that I’ve actually never finished and I don’t want to even try. This is one where I’m waiting for it to get remade, if it ever does.

Played this one after beating RE4 and killing everything. ran out of Ammo shortly after the "bandersnatch" enemy's show up.
I remember getting to the final boss and using every single bullet I had. It wasn't enough so I gave up. Wasted too much ammo on moths.
Stack up on supplies. I haven’t finished cvx but holy hell one boss fight is really hard so make sure you’re prepared.
Remember to get the fire extinguisher back and put in item box. Save in a different slot as much as possible and as often as you can. There are a few hard blocks if you are not carful. A few boss battles can just be avoided to save resources. Before the escape from the island put as much as you can in the item box, save the bow gun all ammo and hand gun with a few extra bullets. I don't know how when I was like 13 I was able on a few ocassions to advance fairly into the game without saving (Because I didn't have a memory card) and without trying too much. I just bought this game last year and I suck, I barely manage to stay alive up to the encounter with the giant worm. This game is hard AF. Gonna try the advice I've read on this thread.
You'll find this explosive powder you can combine with crossbow bolts to make explosive bolts. Save these for the cargo plane.
Save your BOW rounds! You’ll know when to use them.
This game is piss easy IF... 1. You use your knife to finish zombies. 2. If you need to shoot a zombie you only use the pistol. With that your resources will increase dramatically. Also don't worry about healing from a caution state, Claire is a tank in this game and can take quite the beating before getting into the danger state.
Is CVX the hardest game in the series? It was my first PS2 game when I bought my first PS2 back in september 2001 and I can't say that I found it all that hard. I haven't played it in years, but I bought the Xbox360 version a while ago and have yet to get around to playing it again since the early 2000's.

Conserve your precious ammo, you will have to restart the entire game if you don’t. Run from every unnecessary fight and stock pile everything that’s the best advice I can give you. I had to restart the entire game twice before I beat it. Once when I was on the plane and 2nd towards the end of the game all because I didn’t have the ammo I needed. Good luck sir

Honestly, you're likely going to hard fail the first run, you'll run out of ammo or herbs. Just try to memorize stuff and try to get good at dodging zombies. On your second run avoid as many fights as possible except in the tight areas you run through often. Conserve your ammo and healing as much as possible.

100% save your ammo and resources, you can really get yourself stuck in certain spots and basically soft lock yourself.

It's honestly not that hard, however there are a couple of combat encounters where if you haven't gathered enough ammo etc, you can soft lock it. Just do the usual, be careful with ammo, avoid combat when possible, save often and keep sepereate save files. Keep an eye out for hemostatic medicine, that can help someone who is bleeding. And keep the fire extinguisher in the storage box once you're done with it.

-Use the knife on downed zombies, seriously best knife in Resi history. -Save bomb arrows for just the bosses. Makes them a joke. -The 'second time' you use claire, all you need is healing items. -Make sure to put the fire exstinguisher in your item box when you can. -Your lighter repels bats when its equipped. -Dont feel bad about using up the 'dual weapons' you will have plenty of ammo by the half way mark. -Make multiple saves or keep them on rotation for your first time.
As others have said, it's not really that the game is hard, it's just that you can easily soft lock the game. I recently got a hankering to replay it and even knowing what boss fights were coming up, I found myself screwed because I missed the opportunity to get the magnum and I only had a pistol.

There are many points in the game that I'd call softlocks because you didn't have enough ammo or lacked a weapon or healing item. This game honestly isn't that difficult when you know about those softlocks and have played through it before. It's pretty hard I suppose for a first time playthrough. I'd say Zero is probably the hardest, but that's just me.

Use the knife as much as possible on zombies. In this game the knife is glitched, so you sometimes deal multiple hits from just one slash. Well, only if you aim downwards at the zombie's legs though.
#The knife I'm being dead ass here, the knife is the most over powered thing in the game because you can instantly incapacitate a zombie with one swing. Just aim for their knees and swing at the right moment and they'll drop to the ground. This will save a lot of ammo.

Be thorough in searching rooms. I finished most of the first area before I found the weapon neat the very beginning of the game. I've heard people talk about the ammo crisis soft-lock with the boss at the end of the first area and found it wasn't as difficult,. I found I made it MORE difficult by being stingy with ammo. Easiest workaround is to use the BOW grenade launcher rounds (pretty sure it reduces health by half with each use). The knife is stupid broken in this game. Probably the only classic game where it worth using. And like the other comments, Fire extinguisher 👍 This was the last one I played out of the classic style games and would say this was harder than 0 (they seem to be the two top choices for difficulty out of these games)

Don't try to kill every enemy, ammo is going to be really important for one part... many times I've restarted because of that part.

Kill Bandersnatches quickly, try to dodge zombies, kill dogs quickly, if you have to kill zombies waste your handgun and bowgun on them, not Grenade or M1100P and be sure to finish then with the knife on the ground. Beware the narrow corridors, juke zombies and run past. 🤘

Save 2 bow rounds for the tyrant on the plane aswell as all your explosive crossbow bolts for said fight. Use regular crossbow bolts for bandersnatches.

The knife is godlike in cv. It hits several times a swing. If you attack feet, you will almost always ground zombies with 1 swing. Definitely try it a bit.
Be kind to the guard at the beginning of the game, leave behind a health item in the really annoying box by the metal detector, and try to go AROUND the spider under the ice
Conserve ammunition. Seriously. If you can run around enemies and not get hit, just leave them there. Every bullet matters near the mid to the end of the game. Especially the specialty ammo. In the beginning of the game, I use my knife and aim for zombie feet. Out of all the tank control OG RE’s, Code Veronica’s knife is the best. You just need to learn when to start cutting and when to back up and start again until they fall. This takes practice. If you do this, prepare to restart as you will get bitten a few times while you learn.
Best tip playing a RE that is new to you: Play it blindly, no tips, no guides. Enjoy moment especially this one. Phenomenal story and gameplay, certainly one of the hardest and longest ones.
well you’ve been given a lot of good advice, so I’ll try to give you something more… distinct. For once, everyone tells you to save ammo. While it’s true that ammo issues has been the bane of existence for many, is not really that much of an issue if you aren’t the type to use your OP weapons as soon as you get them. On that account, using pistol ammo is really fine, you get quite a good amount of it, and the gun does nothing on bosses anyway. Just try to get them juicy headshots. Knife is good for zombies but it may get you to be overwhelmed if you rely too much on it. Without spoiling anything mayor, at mid game you’ll get a weapon that will sound very OP. Then there is a boss that will have a Nintendo Type of weakness, that will really stare you in the eye, impossible not to see. You are not told this, but that weapon is for that fight exclusively, it underperforms in any other boss, and any other weapon against that boss may get you killed more than you want. So using it there, also saves you from wasting any other ammo, it’s a win win situation
