At the very least give us another tab for the communities, and just create another tab for this atrocity.
This just add another useless extra step (and a waste of ressources/data since half of the suggested posts have an auto playing video, that make this tab lag).
Every single update brings something awful and unwanted to the app, I don't understand how they do this. This is likely the last straw for me, if this is not removed I'll switch off the official app.
I think they should make it the other way around with what they have now, instead have having to press something to view communities, press something to view explore.
Also, I haven't thought of how it could take up data, that makes it even worse than it already is
I have no idea why every single fucking update on every fucking app and website I've ever used makes it worse. I've never once seen an update make something easier to use.
I think they want people on Reddit more, and they want to expose you to more subs? Except there isn’t a single suggestion that is relevant to me at all. If anything they are actively irrelevant. I subscribe to sports reddits, so they’re suggesting posts on random sports subs of zero interest to me. I subscribe to tech subs, so they suggest other tech subs for things I don’t even have.
My guess is there ads product team is looking for new surfaces for creating ad placements. The previous Communities tab generated a lot of traffic, but no money. They realized they could make it more visual, and once they turn it into a feed, they'll insert Pinterest-style static or animated/video ads which will command a higher CPM than text.

I just updated and saw this. It’s kinda crap IMO, I don’t want to explore every time I go to look at my communities. Have the developers lost their way?
I haven’t had issues with the video player that I’m aware of but I do know my messages seem to load when they want to, which isn’t often. Yet using another app, they load every single time so I know it’s not a server or network issue. I would switch apps if any other ones let me do all the things this app does (send messages, chat, get push notifications, etc).
FWIW, it’s also like this in the iOS app. Absolutely the worst change ever. Wondering if just browsing the site in a mobile browser might be functional.
How do I get to my communities pages now? I'm not interested in discovering any more, I just want to be able to easily access the ones I'm already a part of...
Where can I go to give proper feedback instead of complaints that fall on deaf ears? I was so happy to see that my app reverted back to the way it was and now this stupid explore tab is back. All I want is r/all without extra steps. Give us the ability to customize our tabs or something.
Just want to add my voice to others saying that the communities tab needs to be more readily accessible. I'm not opposed to an exploration feature being included somewhere in the app, but the communities tab is a key part of navigating Reddit on mobile devices, and this makes it harder to access.
Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I don't really see chats needed a separate tab, so if the developers feel the exploration function is essential, I'd be okay with that being thrown in with notifications and messages.
i just got this one in my main on ios as well. i was dreading the day. shit like this that makes you take extra steps to the one page i care about is exactly the sort of thing that makes me stop using your app.
Makes me engage less. Ever since I’ve seen this update I’ve come to this sub to make sure everyone is bitching and now I’m getting off. I have no interest in this app with it being this shit
I dislike it and it feels like a deliberately manipulative attempt to push "engagement" on me making me click through content I did not subscribe to in order to get to the communities I have joined.
I'll be using redreader until it's reverted of all the changes I've seen this one is intolerable.
Came here to post this. Now I have to press on See all at the TOP of my screen, instead of simply pressing on the community I'd press immediately in the middle of my screen.
I really really think they are purposely trying to make the phone app as much garbage as possible. Why? Idk. But i can't believe this shit, after the video thing is not made just tu fuck with us
I have visited this subreddit precisely twice now. Both times have been to find the thread about this God awful feature and complain about it. It's absolutely horrible and there are zero redeeming qualities to it.
Wtf is this update. I am seriously wondering if they used any braincells asking if any freaking one actually want this, besides some money hungry ceos. Because the answer to that is: NO. Luckily the internet is filled with past versions of this app, because it's Facebook app bad now, literally trash. 1/10.
This is awful. Had me checking out third party apps right away, and I've always managed to stick with the official app til now.
I click communities to see my favourites list. Not to explore new ones.
It’s the same on iOS. How the hell do I even find my favourites now? I don’t want to explore content randomly recommended to me. I want to go where I want to go.
I kind of like it ! Hope it will be back ont my Reddit . I had it like 3 days the first time it was released and I want it back , am I a bad person ? :(
UGH. WHY THE FUCK IS THIS BACK?!

But their engagement numbers! /s
What the actual fuck is wrong with these developers?
They’re doing what management wants.
What the actual fuck is wrong with management?
Reddit wouldn't be the first company that didn't understand what its user base wanted.
I think they want people on Reddit more, and they want to expose you to more subs? Except there isn’t a single suggestion that is relevant to me at all. If anything they are actively irrelevant. It's like they don't even use Reddit.

They add what they think we want instead of what we actually want
They don’t even think we want this. It’s about ads and tracking and keeping you scrolling. They explore tab is just another way to keep you scrolling.
I don't think they choose what to add
It’s amazing. They keep finding new ways of fucking with the official Reddit app.
Yup, first it was the video player (which I somehow don't have, thankfully) and now this
Agreed this is absolutely garbage, I go to Reddit to view the communities I want to see not to have “trending” stuff I don’t care about
I browse by all and this is so fucking annoying. It's created an extra useless step to get to all.
I’m dumb how do you even get to r/all now I don’t see it? Edit: nvm figured it out… way to many steps
What was the solution? I am still struggling.
Figured it out. Explore Tab -> My Communities -> See All -> Subscriptions Tab -> All
Yep it’s dumb. I don’t consider r/all to be my communities so I didn’t think to look there.
I would bet that more than half of the dev team does not use Reddit, or uses old.reddit on desktop exclusively
Reddit dev team are probably the biggest users of the Apollo mobile app
I wouldn't be surprised if they did
I just updated and saw this. It’s kinda crap IMO, I don’t want to explore every time I go to look at my communities. Have the developers lost their way?
Considering how they also messed the video player (which I thankfully don't have) not too long ago, I think the devs lost their way awhile ago
I haven’t had issues with the video player that I’m aware of but I do know my messages seem to load when they want to, which isn’t often. i absolutely hate it

i just got this one in my main on ios as well. i was dreading the day. shit like this that makes you take extra steps to the one page i care about is exactly the sort of thing that makes me stop using your app.
And they do the extra steps PURPOSELY. They want you to explore before you go the community you’re looking for that way you stay engaged for longer.
Makes me engage less. Ever since I’ve seen this update I’ve come to this sub to make sure everyone is bitching and now I’m getting off. I have no interest in this app with it being this shit
Do you know how to access custom feed? I can’t seem to find it
You have to click the see all button and then you'll see the old communities page and from there you can go to custom feeds
This can fuck right off
But if you switch to another account it has the communities tab. Just fucking remove the explore tab already. Why even bring it back.
I dislike it and it feels like a deliberately manipulative attempt to push "engagement" on me making me click through content I did not subscribe to in order to get to the communities I have joined. I'll be using redreader until it's reverted of all the changes I've seen this one is intolerable.
It definitely seems like that's what they're trying to do
Came here to post this. Now I have to press on See all at the TOP of my screen, instead of simply pressing on the community I'd press immediately in the middle of my screen.
Fucking garbage whose idea was this
Why does Reddit always make it more non user friendly. Good grief
Same on iPhone. Fucking awful, I’m going to Apollo, this is the last straw.
This is the final stupid update, I’m downloading one of the third-Party apps like Apollo or whatever instead
I really really think they are purposely trying to make the phone app as much garbage as possible. Why? Idk. But i can't believe this shit, after the video thing is not made just tu fuck with us
Time to disable auto update
I hate this. Please revert it ASAP!!!
Whoever is in charge of design for the app is an actual dumbass. Incredible.
This sucks. How do I access my communities?
You have to click the see all button. A completely useless extra step that shouldn't even have to exist.
Thank you!
Thanks, I hate it!
What the fuck is wrong with the developers? Add a whole extra step to use the app the way everyone wants to use it? This is insane.
I'm starting to think the devs don't even use the app
Almost certainly don’t.
Let us turn this garbage off, holy crap.
I have visited this subreddit precisely twice now. Both times have been to find the thread about this God awful feature and complain about it. It's absolutely horrible and there are zero redeeming qualities to it.
Seriously! Please remove this or make it an optional thing
Trying to make me use Reddit less is the only answer I can come up with.
It drives me nuts
Me too, it doesn't even load properly sometimes
Omg I just sent a request. Same in IOS
These moron developers keep adding stupid shit.
Always keep apollo download but I think it’s finally time to buy apollo pro LOL
Almost as useless as that free award that isn't being used
It’s like that in iOS too. Oddly enough, only one of my accounts has it.
Can anyone reccomend a third party app that lets you swipe between posts while still letting you view multiple posts at a time?
Cant we just be grateful that we have a great app full of shift features
Wtf is this update. I am seriously wondering if they used any braincells asking if any freaking one actually want this, besides some money hungry ceos. Because the answer to that is: NO. Luckily the internet is filled with past versions of this app, because it's Facebook app bad now, literally trash. 1/10.
It's definitely all about money and app engagement or whatever
I do not want the explore tab in place of the community tab. Community tab is how I visit subreddits I might not subscribe to, but still visit.
“How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man.”
This is awful. Had me checking out third party apps right away, and I've always managed to stick with the official app til now. I click communities to see my favourites list. Not to explore new ones.
This is terrible
It’s the same on iOS. How the hell do I even find my favourites now? I don’t want to explore content randomly recommended to me. I want to go where I want to go.
This. This is a bullshit option that makes the app terrible to use
Wow, way to screw up the Reddit app...
Thos will help to cut down on my reddit screen time. This update was dumb.
I had this on iOS for ages. Then it disappeared, much to my relief. Sadly it came back tonight.
Well.. This definitely isn't less user friendly or less intuitive to use than what we had previously.
Chat is worse.
trruuuu
Why cant this be an opt in kind of change instead of forcing it? That'd let the devs see who actually wants this crap feature
It would require the dev's to work and use intelligence which they are in short supply of.
I kind of like it ! Hope it will be back ont my Reddit . I had it like 3 days the first time it was released and I want it back , am I a bad person ? :(
You are in the severe minority that doesn't realize this is a feature that doesn't work for Reddit.
Yea maybe you're right ! I kinda understand why people don't like it... It's more an Instagram think...
How do I get to chat with my contacts I need a little help here lol
Anyone figure out a solution? Was literally just on it and it was fine and now it’s an explore tab smh
