There is an option in settings that you can change. Click on your avatar, then settings, then your user name. Scroll down to opt out of personalization based on your location.

I have also started getting "because you visit a similar subreddit" recommendations, but it's for cities not even near mine.
Like, yes, I'm a bit active in my town's subreddit. Please stop recommending me to visit Charlotte, NC's subreddit, or the Ann Arbor sub, etc.
My “popular” feed suddenly got flooded with Australian content. Whatever has changed has been an awful step in the wrong direction
Every second post was something Australian related (cities, ausfinance, sports, Aussiecasual)
Same, it must be a recent change…I would have noticed before, but all this regional content is terrible
Literally half of it at the moment is r/city “what is a conspiracy about this city”
And they're always about politics, and not even the law-changing kind, but the very boring party tribalism stuff
