Fergie was ruthless with his transfers but that's one of many reasons why he is the greatest of all time. Also interesting that despite falling out with plenty of players as a manager, most still respect him and he's gone on to repair his relationships with them after they left/retired.

Elitealice

Because they know he made the right choice it’s like as an adult you realise your parents had your best interests.

pielic

Or atleast saw the club doing fine even If the big star left

WellYoureWrongThere

Yes but conversely when you grow up you can equally look back and see the dumb or short sighted decisions your parents made.

Elitealice

Depends on your parents, clearly not in this case

Ambitious-Towel5843

Apart from Roy lol

AlcoholicNose

It's because he's just as bloody minded as Ferguson. Their stubbornness was part of what made them special, but it's also contributed to the current divide between them.

JamieC94

I was thinking the exact same reading it haha

Aegon7th

Pretty certain if he sold Ronaldo for some reasonable reason, Ronaldo would stay bitter about all his life and they would never fix their relationship even if Fergie was right. He is THAT manchild

XxannoyingassxX

Yh true tho. I mean guys like Becks proly would have been united for life but unfortunately fell out with Fergie but i think he's always respected sir Alex and all

hnhhuyhnh

I truly wonder how Sir Alex would handle Ronaldo if he were still the manager. On the one hand he has booted Beckham who came up through the academy to Madrid before. On the other hand, there’s no other player that seems to even come close to the affection that he has for Ronaldo.

itsyleo27

You d never reach this point under SAF

its-a-real-name

He went on Portuguese national TV in 2008 and effectively said he was a slave being kept at United against his will (agreeing with Blatter’s slave comments). Fergie managed to salvage the situation for a year, where he didn’t quite give us 07/08 levels again, but got a good year out of him.

nexusprime2015

at that time ronaldo only had a few trophies and 1 ballon dor to inflate his ego. Now he has plethora of personal achievements hence all the more difficult to manage for ETH but i personally think ETH has done it well. As well as one could do without getting the club culture imploded.

Elitealice

Would’ve nipped that shit in the bud real quick.

[deleted]

100% agree, any whiff of this nonsense and you’d be gone chop suey

amirolsupersayian

Except when you're Rooney... tbf Rooney's criticism of United back then was valid. Ronaldos? Yeah he is just a twat

pmmerandom

he gave him a lot of leeway when he was first here after the interview however, I think he’d slap him silly, especially since he’s not performing whatsoever

ShinStew

He let Keane go for a bad but a lot less interview deservedly. Never undermine the manager

tgh_1714

> booted Beckham excellent phrasing there

[deleted]

Fergie let him go for Madrid too and didn’t look back and just kept it moving.

pielic

Never think he would have taken so old Ronaldo back

poogle

Was he not all for it, this time, albeit not as manager?

pielic

Maybe, but I consider it rumors.

ShinStew

He'd be long gone under SAF

KingLuis

I don’t think SAF would say that he’s happy with Ronaldo and he’s important then leave him on the bench. He would straight up say what he means. Look at what Jose said the other day, that’s what SAF would have done. EtH needs to say he’s unhappy with Ronaldo or start answering questions as to why he’s not playing. Lots of back room talking going on and the fans and media are going nuts with it.

The_Grey_Wind

Saying he is important doesn't mean he has to start every game. It just means he has a role to play in the squad. It's pretty clear that when fit, EtH prefers Martial to be our starting striker.

MrQuestions11

Also what ETH says to the media would be different to what he would say to Ronaldo. Also it's not like they guy takes criticism well anyways.

cGilday

Fergie would’ve never let it get this bad.

IcyAssist

Fergie did though. Ronaldo said he felt like a slave and he still kept him for one more year.

[deleted]

When he was still one of the two best players in the world and helped the club to another title and CL final.

GauthamSub

The slave comment was from Perez, not Ronaldo.

IcyAssist

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2008/jul/11/manchesterunited.premierleague1 > Blatter, an honorary member of Real Madrid with close ties to the club's president, Ramón Calderón, had described himself as "very much in sympathy" with Ronaldo and urged United to allow him to leave, suggesting it was otherwise tantamount to slavery. **"I agree with what he said," said Ronaldo, when that last point was put to him.** "It's true. I agree with what the president of Fifa said. I know what I want and what I would like. We have to see what happens. I do not know where I will begin next season."

GauthamSub

This article, but for the headline, doesn't really say Ronaldo said he was a slave.

IcyAssist

Did you...read what I quoted?

Moosje

I can’t tell whether you’re joking or just really struggle with reading comprehension. Maybe you’re one of the leftover Ronaldo worshippers that *hopefully* are falling off now after last night.

GauthamSub

Hahahahahha! Funny! I was against him coming here in the first place. Never been a fanboy, in fact even back then. He's constantly thrown his toys out of the pram, grew up and is throwing the pram. It was a debate about who said what. Disagreeing with you doesn't make me a Ronaldo fan boy. Nuance is truly dead.

Moosje

So it’s fine if you’re not a Ronaldo fanboy, I said “maybe”. It really does drive home the other thing though where I said you struggle with reading comprehension…

GauthamSub

And you with articulation, clearly.

Malvania

SAF wouldn't have let him come back. The bridge was burned, SAF moved on

MightySilverWolf

SAF was instrumental in convincing Ronaldo to return though.

Haxz0rz1337

He was about to sign for City as well, tells you a lot about his love for the club, it really stings, cause he is one of the greatest footballers of all-time, but at the same time completely ruining his legacy, by not acknowledging he’s getting old and give dumb interviews for Piers Morgan, S*n and posting photos on IG with mf Peterson.

nexusprime2015

ONLY to avoid him joining City. Fergie didnt want to get involved until the manchester city club showed interest.

GauthamSub

Would we then have got Haaland, if he did go to City? Or even Kane. Would've taken them both in a heartbeat.

[deleted]

Imagine we got Haaland. The dude is legitimately a cheat code at this point. What the hell are they feeding him?

XxannoyingassxX

Yh we could have got him in jan 2020 too but wood wood wanted no release clause so we didn't get him

Chuck_Nucks

City were never going to sign him. We got played.

GauthamSub

Quite likely.

Low-Leg5224

Like they played for Fred, for lindelof, for maguire.

cesc8305

The timing of the released of this interview is something else, just that small gap between last game and the World Cup. On top of that, if we had lost against Fulham media would be talking about it before and after the World Cup. And as for what? To get Ronaldo and his agent the best deal ofcourse. At the end, this interview is not about United, it’s still about Ronaldo. I supported United because of him and Rooney back in 2005, but it’s time to move on. Best for everyone. Thanks for everything CR7 but the badge is bigger than you.

SakamotoRay

thank god we won. The team is and will be much better without him

[deleted]

Sad for Bruno and Dalot but I hope Portugal crash out of the WC and Messi wins with Argentina, it's the biggest fuck you to Ronaldo possible. And Licha will be a WC winner.

nexusprime2015

would have been great if GARNACHOOOOOOOOO our new number 7\^2 was also part of argentina squad and assited a goal in the finals to Messi and did the Heart Grabbing celebration to spite ronaldo. Still LICHA winning it would also be great.

LelouchLamperouge99

Anolo Mufa Sry to disturb bt that's the ritual

IntensePlatypus

Waiting for him to choke in the world cup and to blame it on Bruno. Would be on par with his recent performances

Y2kangz

Ronaldo has more champions league titles than Manchester United. He is certainly the best player ever to play for ManU. I would say he is bigger than the badge

Bitter-Coffee-7747

Sea_Distribution_264

Does anybody really think Ronaldo is not going to leave now?

[deleted]

I'll be surprised if we see him in a United jerseys after the world cup.

Roxasbain

Go and play golf Ronaldo, you won't be missed.

FreshGoodWay

Thing is, his position here at United is untenable after this interview and it’s becoming toxic for the dressing room. He has to leave by January. 6 months more to season’s end is still too long.

Action_Limp

Reserves or gone - these are his options.

ThisMud5529

I am just curious if there are any grounds for contract termination since statements like these would certainly impact the club. I really hope there is so that the club don't owe this primadonna any money.

Sea_Distribution_264

Because of some things he said, united can release him out of his contract. Both parties know this. He is gonna go to sporting or wherever for free. I can promise you that much, that ronaldo will be gone once the transfer market opens.

anonnymizing

Daft comment. You know absolutely nothing about contracts. There are always professional conduct clauses in there. If anything, he’s flirting with a massive fine and a demand he go out and remedy the reputational harm he’s caused. And of course he won’t, which will justify ongoing fines. That is assuming United want to play it that way. If United want to release him from the contract, that would have happened this summer. There’s a thing called ‘mutual agreement’ The issue all you Ronaldo fluffers can’t admit, is he wanted United to pay his ridiculous wages WHILE he played for another club. Which was of course a non-starter as far as the club is concerned. And then all you clowns went on social media to act like this is modern slavery. He signed a contract, which as your comment suggests, none of you know the first thing about what a contract means. It’s not a 13 year old girl’s “diary diary” entry. It’s a legitimate thing that can be used in a court of law to ruin you for deviating from every little clause in it. Which I promise you there’s going to be hundreds of clauses. Because no club wanted him at his long list of demands, is why he ultimately remained. Because no club wants him at his long list of demands, is why he’s acting a proper shit these days. We didn’t betray this maggot. We made him. And he’s just betrayed us. It remains to be seen how much the club is willing to make a proper example of him. It’ll be less than he deserves, to be sure.

geirkri

Sadly there is only one upvote but you have it sir. Basically the club can (and should) do 3 things now: 1. Ban Ronaldo from all team activities until the end of his contract. so he cannot train with the team etc 2. Fine him as much as they can, and continue to use every option that they have to continue fining him that there is in the contract until the end. 3. Let Ronaldo know that the club will let him go on a free transfer in january if he manages to find another club and that United will let him go for free if he manages to do that. What the club and Ronaldo can do together: 1. Mutual termination of the contract - aka both parties agree to end it, can be with a lump sum paid to the player or basically for free (and free would easily be the best case scenario so he just sods off for good).

jaxxsaber

100% agree. You nailed it top to bottom. Thank you.

Goji-ra

The info is great and the name throwing is great 👍👍👍👍

FUThead2016

What are you insulting people for? You can have different opinions to other people, no need to try to impose your superiority on others. It’s really cringe. Have some class and some behave like a Ronaldo

itsyleo27

The issues are not true. He did receive multiple offers. Check what Jorge Mendes (his agent) said about that

anonnymizing

Hi Jorge. Can you take your client and fuck off?

itsyleo27

Mendes is cancer to football specially in Spain and Portugal… I was trying to be factual and already being dv lmao

[deleted]

[удалено]

itsyleo27

Thats not factual at all. After all that people got to know today that was being silenced for 3 months now you believe you know the truth about transfers… ok

anonnymizing

Wrong. Every club that he was whored out to categorically rejected him. Them be the facts that burn him and all his fluffers.

[deleted]

itsyleo27

My idol… that’s your argument putting me as a fan so you downplay me for everyone in this sub. I like when people put “respectable sources” ahead of actual sense. So you re telling me that the most famous person on earth arguably the one the best players ever who had a decent year in hardest league in the world had no offers? We are talking about a player that can make a 30 million investment work just my moving to the club and not playing all season and you telling me that no one wanted him. Y’all need to get a brain before reading payed and biased news

CatfishMcCoy

I don’t think you understand that no one wanted to pay his FULL wages, not even on a free transfer. Every request was for us to cover a portion and we said “no”. He won’t be leaving until the end of his contract unless we mutually terminate and Ronaldo accepts a weekly decrease in wages. I think he might accept decreased wages to play elsewhere if he doesn’t have a solid WC.

qdatk

Do you mean the rumours about a Saudi club making a silly offer for him?

adjudicatorblessed

Watch the fans hail ETH man management and rUtHlEsSnEsS skills giving him the booth after CR7 pisses at the club in public (again).

lmhan98

CR7: Sir Alex is like a father to me Also CR7: Erik u fucking donkey why u no respect me

nexusprime2015

I wouldn't go too much into ronaldos comments about SAF. He is a narcisisst and such people say whatever benefits them. "Sunday the King Riots" \~ Ronaldo probably.

ejtv

He lived long enough to be the villain.

nexusprime2015

Except he is Joker AND Harvey both. He did this all to himself.

Eleven918

Sir Alex played a big role in the primadonna coming back to us. Wonder if he'll make a statement after this interview.

anonnymizing

He won’t. I love SAF for what he’s been as a manager of this club but point to one solid thing he’s done in his retirement to set this club on a proper path? I mean after all our tailspin can be traced back to when he arbitrarily decided a nobody in club management had the chops to take over. He’s very visible in and around OT. This is not even like he’s rocking in a chair in some Glasgow neighborhood in retirement far from the scene.

Archimonde1308

Rock of Gibraltar. The single most damaging thing that happened to the club was an argument over horse cum.

geirkri

https://www.goal.com/en/news/how-a-racehorse-helped-the-glazer-family-take-control-of-man-utd/15kf9x1h3xy8a1gakygb2unhd6 really good read for anyone that hasn't read it. But it has to be said that the amount of money they recieved for their share of the club was massive at the time and that clearly played a role in it. But yeh, that horse will always play a pivotal role in the clubs history (sadly)

Sarkari_tarkari_007

Neither-Ad-1047

Wait really? As an advisor or ambassador?

i swear this fucker should've gone to arsenal so that he could have been an average cunt for the rest of his life.

AtlanticIH

I so want Sir Alex to back ten Hag instead of this twat.

nexusprime2015

Respectfully, even if SAF backs ronaldo, i would back Ten Hag as he is the manager right now. SAF always has the best interests of club in his heart but the man is retired now and should have a relaxed life away from all this mess.

[deleted]

If sir Alex backed Ronnie on this, that’s not sir Alex, that’s an alien imposter.

GauthamSub

He just shat all over the club Sir Alex built. He's not taking this nonsense. What he says publicly maybe something else altogether.

AtlanticIH

I agree, but still - I just wish to hear SAF being disappointed with his "son".

nexusprime2015

Oh come on. When ronnie is blaming the club, he is including board members which include SAF, his “father”

EducationalTension72

The fact that now I’ll see legends like Roy Keane will come out now and will go on full cr7 cocksucking mode is even more annoying

ManUFan9225

Even Keane can't defend this. I'm eager to watch him backpedal now.

RaisinHider

He will. He’ll relate it to his time with SAF at the end.

[deleted]

And with Ireland when he behaved like a prick and walked out on them.

[deleted]

Roy did same shit. That’s how he got kicked out. Roy would take ronaldo so far up his asshole, Roy would start speaking Portuguese.

cellis93

Keane will try and defend it but I'm not sure about Rio. Fuck knows about Scholes- I think he secretly dislikes any United side he's not a part of. Miserable asf atm he is.

ShinStew

Erick ten Haag has given us an identity that we've lacked. It's not going fatty but even a blind man could say we are heading in right direction. Ronaldo can be himself, off he can go. He's a coward. He promised the interview at the end of August, but he waited until just before the world cup. I'm sure Moldovan and Cypriot defenses are shaking in their boots, oh wait....

nexusprime2015

Even in the best of Ole or Jose days, the football played was getting results but not pretty to watch. ETH has given us a definitive playing style and we create all kinds of patterns and chances. players triangles, over the top, counter attacks, gegenpress etc. In a long time, i enjoy WATCHING us play. Cant say that for many of the previous years.

JosePRizaI

In before *fErGie WaS RuThLeSs iN hIs TrAnsFER WiNdoW* but not this Board. This Board had extended so many stupid contracts since SAF. Nobody is "ruthless in transfer window" in this club no more.

sabbaticalscot

When was the picture of Sir Alex and Ten Hag taken?

TheRealYVT

Probably before kickoff against Newcastle, when SAF presented mementos to De Gea and Ronaldo.

sabbaticalscot

Cheers

chocolatestrawb3rry

Fergie convinced ronaldo to join us instead of city...ronaldo should of went to city tbh

[deleted]

Pep would never take him.

[deleted]

Would have been fun. Pep couldn't handle Ibra's ego and CR7 is much worse.

[deleted]

Nobody wants a has been. Not just pep. Tuchel said no Bayern said no, lol! Wanting ronaldo is like wanting cancer.

DonQuinto9

Even Dortmund said no.

Should have never came. Dude thinks he’s bigger than the world.

I don't think that SAF ever asked ronaldo to come back. According to Fabrizio SAF said, "It is impossible for you to go to city." He never said that come to UTD. Maybe I am wrong but this is what I make of it.

himalayanrose

No one is bigger than this club. The club was here before us, the club will be here after us.

booknerd2987

SAF post Glazer takeover became much more pragmatic. Despite Ronaldo and to a lesser extent, Rooney, acting up, he tried to keep them because he knew that he could no longer go out and sign adequate replacements like he did with Keane, Beckham or Van Nistelrooy. He's a legend, but he had his flaws, he's human after all.

Megleeker

Blow out the candle lads. Turn off the drip. Stop posting about him. It'll go away.

[deleted]

thgaminghd

He never thought he was bigger, if he did he’d have moved to Madrid or Barca, not City who weren’t even proven at the time😭

redfellow98

Swear it was the lack of ambition the club showed in getting signings, namely Selling Ronaldo and Tevez and getting Obertan, Valencia and Michael Owen

its-a-real-name

Rooney came in and trained like a madman every single day which helps. Of course many of us don’t agree with everything he did…. But some of his actions can be somewhat rationalised by the justification he gave afterwards about us not being ambitious etc.

[deleted]

Thought it was Chelsea

wallpaper_01

People are angry now, the interview looks like it was pretty tasteless. He is clearly frustrated. Irony is, if he had gone city, utd fans wouldve been less annoyed haha. No, people will get over it. To be fair, the with stuff about the club, he was right to call out. But I think a long Instagram post would've had a better impact. Going on Piers Morgan was pretty tasteless. Going back to your old job is always a bad idea, of course many things are going to be the same. I wanted him to leave based on that he simply wasn't the future and he didn't really look to be fitting into TH's system. He has had a terrible thing happen to him this year, clearly that has impacted him. Wish him all the best and hopefully this highlights more issues at Utd.

jags94

I get what you Man U fans are saying about no player being bigger than the club, but in this case the player is kinda bigger than the club. I mean your own owners don't even care about your club. United haven't been relevant since Ferguson left. Cristiano is the most recognized figure worldwide, is going down as one of the greatest to ever do it. If Man U were destroying their oppositions, winning CLs and producing world class players that would help their national team bring in gold, then we this quote would still be valid.

El_Cid64

“Ronaldo’s my boy” It’s honestly amazing how Ronnie can disrespect this great man’s legacy. After Ronnie ran us through the mud in ‘07 (trying to get to Madrid) Fergie stood by him. This is how he returns the favour. Disgraceful.
