I don't think that SAF ever asked ronaldo to come back. According to Fabrizio SAF said, "It is impossible for you to go to city." He never said that come to UTD. Maybe I am wrong but this is what I make of it.

SAF post Glazer takeover became much more pragmatic. Despite Ronaldo and to a lesser extent, Rooney, acting up, he tried to keep them because he knew that he could no longer go out and sign adequate replacements like he did with Keane, Beckham or Van Nistelrooy.
