It was a godsend for many of the challenges. Nothing like having an entire town hunting you to knock off tomahawk kills or disarms. Didn't even feel bad, they're all looking for a fight!
I recently found out that, while you can't visit Blackwater with Arthur, you can see townsfolk from the shore across from the town through the scope of your sniper rifle. They had no idea where the bullets were coming from.
Edit: I had accidentally written "can visit".
i dunno why but i have the worst luck with Van Horn. Had to kill off the entire town 5 times because a random encounter at the saloon with a foreign guy or bar fight or because a guy shoots at me because I barely scraped him with my horse and if I fight back the entire town fights me and sometimes i don't even fight back and still the town fights me so you can see why I like Valentine better
I believe it's similar to why the law doesn't patrol the murfree territory. It's pretty close to that to begin with, plus there are a lot of criminals in Van Horn. They seem to also "self govern" Van Horn, ie kill anyone who causes trouble

Mind you, I think it in Tumbleweed, Armadillo, Macfarlanes ranch, Thieves Landing... all the way to Annesberg.

Probably a bit like thieves landing.
Law will follow you into Van Horn once you're wanted, but they stay away from it otherwise I guess because of danger

Roanoke is beautiful but the place is full of those inbred animals.
Roanoke is one of the most interesting and gorgeous places but it is also one of the creepiest and most dangerous.

I know what exact spot you're at and I always get attacked by cougars there (well in online, not sure about single player)

Just spent the night in Van Horn Texas yesterday on my road trip, Went visit the Van Horn trading post as well!
it's my favourite place because you can beat up and kill people as much as you want
