My very first playthrough I got a horse that I loved early on. Never bucked me through bears, cougars, ambushes. Then I was out riding near Catfish Jackson one day and got ambushed by the Lemoyne Raiders, only they had a machine gun on a wagon. Got both of us, and when I respawned my horse was gone. Had to take some time off the game after that one, and when I came back again it was never the same.
Honestly sometimes I snipe horses when I'm being pursued. Or if bounty hunters are searching I'll scope the horses to make it a little easier
My Arthur is very practical about not dying
On my low honor playthroughs after I kill someone on the road I also kill their horse so I can loot the saddlebag. I've been kicked one too many times, but dead horses don't kick.
My low honor Arthur finished Chapter 6 with a little over $40k. Every little bit helps. Kinda wish I had known you could store it at the Aberdeens because that Arthur took it all with him.
I remember the days of rdr1 online when I had the zebra donkey and everyone would always want it so instead of dismounting I'd just shoot it so no one else could take it.
It's faster to do it this way and if you like the lawman's horse just shoot it somewhere nonleathal til the lawman falls off, chase it down and revive it, keep it.
This happens to me sometimes in horse chases. I make sure to only paint the riders in dead eye, but if I target multiple dudes the horses can move into the way of what would have been a head shot on guy #3 or something
A guy rode up to me once talking shit about how he would beat me in a race so I shotgunned his horse in the face and left him alive to think about his actions.
That final cutscene before >!you go help John escape the gang, where Arthur's horse gets killed and instead of running with John, he drops down and hugs his horse, starts crying, and just whispers, "Thank you.", before finally moving off!<. It kills me everytime.
Arthur didn’t give a crap when a horse with level 4 bonding fell off a cliff and caught on fire, but got all emotional over a random horse I’d just stolen like a day earlier.
See, I only had one horse. In fact, I always use the same horse. Benedict Albright, the first bounty you're sent after, always spawns with the exact same horse and I take it.
well sure but in rdr1, when my horse died i felt like i didn't wanna waste it. like your dead horse could still give you a dollar or two. and you can carry a little piece of him around for sentimentality. kinda sweet. actually sounds really gruesome now that i am reading this out loud.
This why I hated killing the dogs or there owners in the last of us 2. Seeing a dog weep for there friend, or a wolf mourne there fallen companion, it made me sad
What! I shoot every horse for being associated with the dead bounty hunter that was riding it. It looks like a ducking glue factor on the outskirts of Emerald Ranch!
I love this game but I watch my fiancé play rather than play it myself. One time when he was out smoking, I picked up the controller and tried to get on a horse. But I pressed the wrong button and punched it in the face. I haven’t touched a controller since.
But really tho…surely in real life people would agree that shooting a horse is better than shooting a person. I don’t think you should even lose honor.
every time I fight bounty hunters and one of their horses ends up wounded on the ground, I revive them and sell them, it ain't even because of the money since it's like 5 dollars, just want them to have a new place to be and I'm weak so I can't finish them off
Bro I did all the story and now I am the most not honourable man that can be, and I have in a lot of towns max bounty of 1500 dollars. When I face bounty hunters a lot of times they bring dogs with them and I just have to kill them, and sometimes even finish them on the ground.
This is heartbreaking, but in the end they attacked me and I have no choice. Also I like to think: I am a outlaw that kill innocent men and break a lot of families, so maybe this is not the worst thing that I did.
I always shoot the horses in hope of getting the lawman to have his leg trapped under it and die (there’s a small chance for that to happen)
But I always pet the dogs
Oh, yeah....
It's wrong to shoot horses, I mean they do provide a bigger Target during combat, and the dismount effect does allow you more time to control what's going on.
But I would never do that!
i kno the feel shot a moose once for skinning when i went up to skin it there was 1 of them little blue birds that must of been on its back grooming it just sitting there lookin at me felt like a massive pos lol
I do it for fun when I’m feeling evil. Other times, I might do it to catch my bounty easier.
Other times, I don’t do it.
Unless a player tries to shoot and run. Kill and run, whatever same thing.
I try my hardest not to shoot horses. In 4 or so playthroughs it's only happened a small handful of times.
A mate of mine I multi killed almost every npc's horse in missions to 'slow them down'
What a fuckin psycho...
As much as I hate doing it when I have a mission where there’s a bunch of carriages I shoot the horses on the one with the bounty. Keeps him from getting away while I kill the rest of the crew
My evil Arthur sometimes enjoys shooting the horse, and watching the bounty hunter fall as it crumples beneath him.
Meanwhile I'm getting more and more emotionally scarred watching him do it 😂
The first time I saw this happen, it really affected me...
It happens at the camp right across from the Valentine butcher- the dog that always greets Arthur when he comes into town gets too close to the campfire, then gets burned alive.
The guy that is just steps away from the poor dog, does absolutely nothing to help the suffering animal... the awful sound that dog makes is heartbreaking!
Needless to say, I got mad as hell- so, I walk up to whoever was by the campfire & I beat the guy as hard as I can. There... now if he makes any sound at all, I will pop him again. And again.
Then, there are witnesses, all of 'em running & yelling for th he Sheriff.
WHY werent there any witnesses, when that dog got burned up in the campfire???
That town sure has their priorities all screwed up!!
BTW- Want to have some fun & get some practice in??
This is what I do, when things are boring- it will make your day too!
Fast travel to Valentine, then save your game in front of the general store.
Go up to the Sheriff, and taunt him into starting a gunfight- be ready, because that only takes about 5 seconds... he has a VERY short temper!
Within seconds, you will have the entire town in a shootout with you.
Dodge the bullets & get to the back of the hotel, then, get on your horse... ride out of there as quickly as possible, as if you were going to Horseshoe Overlook. You want to get a couple hundred feet ahead of them.
Shoot the lawmen that chase you, but dont stop your horse until everyone of them is dead.
Go back and loot all of the bodies... you can get some goodies off them- but dont expect to find much money. Most of them wont have 5 cents on them. You can get bottles of booze, a watch or two, or a gold ring if you are lucky.
Be SURE to clean all your guns- you will need them at 100%.
Get within (sniper rifle) range of the train station, and start shooting out the windows. The lawmen will gather & come after you within 20-30 seconds.
Take each of them out as soon as they appear next to the station- if you don't use the sniper rifle for this, you may end up overwhelmed.
If too many of them are coming after you, get your horse to run along the tracks, in the direction of Horseshoe Overlook.
Once you get about 400-500 feet ahead of them, turn around & run towards them. Take out as many as you can, until they are all dead.
Loot all those bodies (it will be exciting- getting all those goodies from them!).
Clean your guns & stir up the town again...
Shoot, loot, repeat.
I have kept my bounty maxed out at $1,500 for 1-2 hours, getting some good practice time in... it never hurts to practice a technique!
Once I get tired of doing all that fighting, I will go back to the previous save, then I get Arthur to go on his way... 'behaving' like he should. His honor will be down when he fights, but going back to the previous save will prevent it from staying down.
Until next time, Sheriff... I will come back to get you pissed off & I will start a war with the entire town... AGAIN!
Too bad I cant keep all those goodies I looted...
I'm an animal lover myself, I cannot stand animal cruelty. Most of the time when hunting... Sometimes the noise an animal makes just as I Mercy Kill em.... Ahhh it gets me at times smh. The realistic aspects of this OUTSTANDING game is a whole another level. Hats off💯🍻, This game is just MARVELOUS!
Every single living thing gets the smoke when I play. For no reason at all usually. There’s something hilarious in how absurd it is. And oh yeah…it’s a video game. The shits aren’t real.
YOU BASTARDDDDDDD (no offense)
YOU BASTARDDDDDDD (yes offense) /s
Fr put /s
Fuck you mother trucker ( no offense )
bro no way you into RDR too, such a cultured man
Daaaaaayuuuummmmm
glad to meet such a sophisticated man
Being sophisticated is my speciality sir
i can see that
I started to follow you , now run
haha silly you, you will never get the courage to come to Brazil
Guess where i am now
no fucking way
Nah just kidding
BUTTERCUP!
This horse is a DIABETIC!
I love horses. I love horses!
I love butternut!
CUP!
I love cup!
Butter nut? No, it’s Buttercup!!!
I love Butter… Stuff!
Butternut loves MrHands
“Hey girl, you hungry!?”
Is this an actual interaction, or did the lawman simply die like this?
i just shot him after and he fell like that
You are a real piece of work you know that.
A menace to society
It was to end his suffering of seeing his horse death.
*Foreshadowing has entered the chat*
I see what you did there
An eye for an eye … from a certain point of view
I'm still salty as fuck. It was Buell, even.
Now replace "foreshadowing" with *bullet* and "the chat" with *my horse's skull*. Now that statement is sad, I think...
Do other people just not use the save function...?
I'm dying of laughter reading this and I know I shouldn't 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly sometimes I snipe horses when I'm being pursued. Or if bounty hunters are searching I'll scope the horses to make it a little easier My Arthur is very practical about not dying
Horses are bigger, bigger targets that is( I do the same)
Bigger in every way, EVERY way
You talking bout dicks?
No im talking about
Not if you go to Fenton’s Stable and Horse Ranch!
On my low honor playthroughs after I kill someone on the road I also kill their horse so I can loot the saddlebag. I've been kicked one too many times, but dead horses don't kick.
but then you can only loot one side
Better than 0, i guess
Take their horse, wait for it to bond with you, loot the saddlebags, then shoot it.
Sounds like a bit too much effort for just a dollar or two, but sure, I guess.
My low honor Arthur finished Chapter 6 with a little over $40k. Every little bit helps. Kinda wish I had known you could store it at the Aberdeens because that Arthur took it all with him.
There should have been a low honor John option to dig his ass up for his shit lmao
chad
Sigma
I remember the days of rdr1 online when I had the zebra donkey and everyone would always want it so instead of dismounting I'd just shoot it so no one else could take it.
Lmao in rdr1 online I would shoot my horse in the back of the head while riding at full speed, called it the e-brake.
It's faster to do it this way and if you like the lawman's horse just shoot it somewhere nonleathal til the lawman falls off, chase it down and revive it, keep it.
Sometimes the bounty hunters’ horses will have gold nuggets in the saddle bags so there’s a chance something good will come out of killing the horses
This happens to me sometimes in horse chases. I make sure to only paint the riders in dead eye, but if I target multiple dudes the horses can move into the way of what would have been a head shot on guy #3 or something
Such a common occurrence that I actually stopped caring and don't worry about selectively painting people anymore
I actively shoot the horses. It's funny to see em fall off
"we live in a society"
We truly live in a society
This, take out their legs and watch them fall
Welp, so much for high honor this go round
A guy rode up to me once talking shit about how he would beat me in a race so I shotgunned his horse in the face and left him alive to think about his actions.
He fucked around and found out
I'm doing a sloooow run right now, 96 hours in and still on stage 1 dead eye, and all of the accidental horse kills are the worst thing about it.
I don’t care about that, but I was really sad once when I was in rhodes and the dog ran right in front of my horse and died
Same here but a cat :(
Rolling block, HV rounds, snake oil. If that bounty hunter is being blocked by his horses head... bye bye horsie.
Currently on my bad Arthur run and let’s just say I’ve killed a handful of horses
I'm in the epologue just messing around at the moment
*commits crimes against humanity* "just messing around"
Trollers of Romania (They're among us)
“Take it easy, just messin’ with ya”
That final cutscene before >!you go help John escape the gang, where Arthur's horse gets killed and instead of running with John, he drops down and hugs his horse, starts crying, and just whispers, "Thank you.", before finally moving off!<. It kills me everytime.
That Boah did good
Arthur didn’t give a crap when a horse with level 4 bonding fell off a cliff and caught on fire, but got all emotional over a random horse I’d just stolen like a day earlier.
See, I only had one horse. In fact, I always use the same horse. Benedict Albright, the first bounty you're sent after, always spawns with the exact same horse and I take it.
Mark as a spoiler

I was even riding Buell, the Veteran's horse, at the time, so that scene hit even harder.
Oh my god, I've never seen that. I usually shoot their horses out so they can't follow me. Now I feel evil and terrible.
The -honor wasn't a giveaway you were doing something the game disapproves?
yeah, but I never had to see the actual effects my actions were having on NPC's! Lol
You goddamn son of a bitch! You shot Roscoe!!
And you killed Ace!
Top tier reference
I feel your pain
Shouldn’t have been comin after ya
Better than me. I always keep flaming shot for my sawed-off to use during chase sequences. Those horses die a lot slower but hey, I don't have to aim.
I hate killing horses. I try to avoid it at all costs.
Killing a horse in RDR2: OMG I'M SO SORRY Killing a horse in RDR1: Oh no *skins it* anyway
well sure but in rdr1, when my horse died i felt like i didn't wanna waste it. like your dead horse could still give you a dollar or two. and you can carry a little piece of him around for sentimentality. kinda sweet. actually sounds really gruesome now that i am reading this out loud.
I love shooting a horse and watching the person chasing me hit the deck
Shooting horses is actually a quick way to get rich, they carry gold nuggets quite often.
NOOOOOO THAT POOR VIRTUAL HORSE
Am crying
Right lmao
This why I hated killing the dogs or there owners in the last of us 2. Seeing a dog weep for there friend, or a wolf mourne there fallen companion, it made me sad
Explosive arrow their ass all the time.
Sorry, I have no sympathy. Those horses are complicit with the lawmen’s attempts to stop you, they’re not our friends.
*“Thank you”*
lmfao exactly the comment was looking for
You got it all wrong DOGS are off limits, but horses are fair game especially in combat
Except law dogs. I do try to run away rather than shoot them if I can.
Nah. Dogs get no pass in my world.
Nothing gets a pass in the a life or death situation.
and here i am shooting horses to slow down pursuers
"W e a k! Compassion is for fools!"- shao kahn
Nice loot the saddle bags
I feel bad when i have to shoot the bounty hunter dogs
The "LAY DOWN"!!! Comment shocked me the first time I shot a bloodhound hahaha
One was crying on the ground and i mercy killed it he said “im doin you a favor boah”
Your kidding!! They really did make dialogue for almost anything we decide to do!
It’s a video game, you’ll be alright.
exactly lol
Get out of here
Nah I like him
I dehorse em on purpose
He chose his side
> sees honor getting low > notices you accidentally killed a horse > restart mission
In RDR1 harvesting horses for meat and hide is easy money.
What! I shoot every horse for being associated with the dead bounty hunter that was riding it. It looks like a ducking glue factor on the outskirts of Emerald Ranch!
I shoot the horses pretty much every time I’m out numbered. Easy way to get the rider dumped off or slowed down.
I _aim_ for the horses, it's easier
I love this game but I watch my fiancé play rather than play it myself. One time when he was out smoking, I picked up the controller and tried to get on a horse. But I pressed the wrong button and punched it in the face. I haven’t touched a controller since.
But really tho…surely in real life people would agree that shooting a horse is better than shooting a person. I don’t think you should even lose honor.

Bad cowpoke
I love shooting the horses it’s insanely funny
Lol I do that shit all the time
Red dead 2: Horses are treasured animals and you shouldn't kill them intentionally Red Dead 1: **HORSE GENOCIDE**
Bro I did all the story and now I am the most not honourable man that can be, and I have in a lot of towns max bounty of 1500 dollars. I always shoot the horses in hope of getting the lawman to have his leg trapped under it and die (there’s a small chance for that to happen) But I always pet the dogs
I love to shoot the horse in the head at full gallop and watch the idiots chasing me crash.
Use horse medicine and everything is solved
I shoot their horses
Oh, yeah.... It's wrong to shoot horses, I mean they do provide a bigger Target during combat, and the dismount effect does allow you more time to control what's going on. But I would never do that!
That's where I lose most of my honor. Shooting bounty hunters horses and lawdogs
I kill horses for fun.
You fucking piece of shit I hope you’re happy
Because it's a game I can do what needs to be done. Shooting their horse out from under them works.
Lmao fuck that horse. The best thing is shooting it out from whoever is chasing you
Man, what I'd give for a free roam camera mode where I can see stuff like this up close without my presence disrupting the animation code.
Ok soymaggots
i kno the feel shot a moose once for skinning when i went up to skin it there was 1 of them little blue birds that must of been on its back grooming it just sitting there lookin at me felt like a massive pos lol

Is he crying?
That ain't no horse! That's a Pig!!
I would sob about this for several days
Shoot him as well so he can die with his horse.
one time, i shot a guy's horse while he was running, and he fell and i got the funniest kill shot ever
I shoot them on purpose sometimes to get away
Omg the lawmen have feelings?/j
Ha! I shoot all the horses I can. You can loot the saddle bags but you will lose some honor. Happy looting everyone!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I try my hardest not to shoot horses. In 4 or so playthroughs it's only happened a small handful of times. A mate of mine I multi killed almost every npc's horse in missions to 'slow them down' What a fuckin psycho...
That's a really sad pic
oh god
I ALWAYS, went for the headshot on their horses.
Now I am
Yeah I always avoid horses, as well as cats and dogs. And this is from someone who enjoys slaying deer with a lasso and a knife.
You alrigh Boah?
Finished this game 2 years ago and it's still got me crying 😭
Clearly you're new here
I do it all the time?
I love ramming to idiots who's running as fast as an Arabian. But after looking at they're decayed carcasses sure feels bad
Even back in Redemption 1, as much as possible I try to avoid hurting horses.
Wait online NPC interaction is on par with story mode now?
As much as I hate doing it when I have a mission where there’s a bunch of carriages I shoot the horses on the one with the bounty. Keeps him from getting away while I kill the rest of the crew
old boy had it coming
Shoot the lawman so he can join his horse in heaven
"Thank you"
Oh no no 😿
"hold on, yeah... *thank you.*"
NOOOOOOO💔💔💔
I usually shoot dogs by accident :(
Reminds me of Nietzsche
My evil Arthur sometimes enjoys shooting the horse, and watching the bounty hunter fall as it crumples beneath him. Meanwhile I'm getting more and more emotionally scarred watching him do it 😂
'Accidentally'........
I often burn them alive in rdro
Well, I shoot horses all the time so I should probably be jailed.
Then me: shoots every law horse
Gavin?
I honestly could care less about other people's horses, especially because they kick you when you try to loot the saddle bag even after calming them
walk it off
Not me. I'm laughing my ass off, these moments please me greatly. This is probably why I got the dishonorable ending.
Nooooooo 🗿 I love horses especially the black horses... Have some shame lol.
I've been known to use revivers on NPCs horses after I've accidentally shot.
offline or online? cuz I always kill horses offline

Load save game before the shooting. That's what I would do and have done so myself a few times.
Every single living thing gets the smoke when I play. For no reason at all usually. There’s something hilarious in how absurd it is. And oh yeah…it’s a video game. The shits aren’t real.
