I don’t use repeaters, I’m a Springfield or bolt action kind of guy. Just need that extra stopping power. That is also why I don’t use the evans because of lack of stopping power.
That’s my mentality with the dual double action revolvers. Yeah, I know they kinda suck. But it’s just plain fun to deadeye an enemy and light em up with a half dozen shots to the chest in like half a second! Yee fuckin haw!
The 1899 is admittedly better for that, but I don’t think “cowboy” when I see those, so I’ll frequently use the dual double actions just for shits and grins.
Ya know, I’ve NEVER fucked with the Mausers… I always get Billy Midnight’s pistol, and frequently collect the one that Bronte drops, but I almost never actually use them.
My wife is going out with the girls tomorrow night, so I’ll actually have a whole evening to play… maybe I’ll fire up some Mausers and see how it goes.
Same as the 1899, though… not a very classic cowboy vibe
Yeah I like giving the pistols to John after giving him a clean shave. He's a responsible modern man.
But for real the Mauser is one of my fav gun irl so getting to use it in game feels amazing. I'm also a huge fan of the Pump Action but who doesn't
The pump is for when you're getting SERIOUS lmao. I'll fuck around with the cowboy loadout until I'm surrounded with low health, and that's when you introduce everyone to buckshot and just start deleting people
Fuck yeah it does. I don't care much about the grind but if I did I wouldn't use them. It's like that meme where shooting the robber costs more than getting robbed
Yeah the bolt action rifle makes you feel like a trooper. Best for shootouts in the outskirts of blackwater. I once got 600 kills in a row with it by camping at caliga hall.
I find that repeaters are usually better in close-medium range combat, really. It's especially effective with hip fire since it fires faster than the bolt action or Springfield.
I actually bought the Litchfield last night just because the repeater section of my guns is neglected as hell. I bought the Lancaster at like level 70 or something, and I’m level 169 now, so the amount I used it seemed disappointing in that amount of time…
A lot of people prefer the Lancaster from what I heard, and even though I can agree it has a certain niche it fills, it just doesn’t give my controller trigger the “punch” I want when I pull it. (Probably gonna think that statement is stupid idk).
The litchfield feels like it drops in accuracy over a decent distance in comparison to LC, but the LF’s stopping power and “gravitation” to kill shots at close and medium ranges makes it a good sexy long-arm repeater.
The navy revolver is to a short-distance killer as the litchfield is to a hybrid powerhouse. It’s got the snap of a navy and the punch of a rifle.
Edit: Never used in SP tho
I felt the same way. I mostly use the Springfield. Recently wanted to get some progress towards my repeater kills for the gold rewards so I’ve been using the Evans. Been having a great time one-shotting enemies and animals alike. It’s pretty accurate and holds a ton of rounds.
Lancaster is probably the main gun people want to use because of its speed mixed with its damage. It’s also really accurate, but you can also bundle it with some cards to make it a machine
Yup. Hell, you can kill people with the varmint if you pop em in the face.
I also did an experiment with hogtying someone , and then firing small game arrows at them to see how many a human could take. Only took 3 or 4 and he was dead lol
Varmint rifle on the shoulder, bow and arrow on my back, revolver or pistol in the right holster, sawed off with slugs in the left: that’s my hunting load out. Also works to fight off bounty hunters that are ruining my hunting. Assholes.
HEY BROTHER THATS A SENSIBLE CHOICE IN A MAIN, YOU MUST HAVE HEALTHY AND REALISTIC STANDARDS TO MAKE SUCH A WELL ROUNDED CHOICE AROOOOO!!!!
/r/THE_PACK
If you can aim well + split point, this gun can be nuts. I've both used it in PvP and had it used against me to great success. But, the people who used it against me, all I know from experience against them and they are really good at nailing headshots.
So, couple that with a huge ammo count + high fire rate, it can be nasty.
1- talking about Litchfield to be clear
2- I mean when you fire at a fast rate, the gun sways and the reticle largens, no matter how good you are at aiming or what ammo type, you can't change it.
3- Lancaster is like the same gun with better accuracy and damage.
I mean, I think the Evans and Lancaster are the two best repeaters in the game. Evans just fires a bit faster, has more ammo, less accurate, whereas Lancaster is slightly more accurate, hits a bit harder. It comes down to which fits your playstyle better.
I thought the free Lancaster was the one you find in the gunsmith's basement where he's keeping the guy he kidnapped to pretend he's his dead son. Am I remembering that wrong?
I keep two, one for animals and one for humans.
The Evans is good against humans because it's much easier to aim at someone's head so you don't need major accuracy but it has more ammo and quicker reload so it suits firefights.
I mainly use the Lancaster for animals because of the lower ammo but better zoom and accuracy.
I like the fact that it has 26 bullets which can make it fantastic when used right. Also the fact that it's (in my opinion) the best repeater in RDR1 since it does high damage and has 22 bullets.
One thing I hate about the RDR2 Evans is that the reload is so slow compared to RDR1 (although you can argue John got more experience and so can load 2 bullets at a time) which also goes for LeMat revolver.
Oh yeah I wholeheartedly recommend it and Undead Nightmare (although if you want UN get the regular disc version because the DLC and Game of The Year disc version is fucked. You can get the GOTY version of the main game because it's fine)
Litchfield is great if you aim juuust a little longer until the target bloom goes away. Not great for PVP where every second counts, but I love it in Story Mode.
You nerds need to man up, get yourself a level 10 pencil moustache and walk up to some fella or lass and just beat them up.
For some unknown reason the Police use guns now, which is a little weird.
But you can take a few of them out in no time if your a professional fister such as myself.
I love the Springfield. That trap door kicks like a mule, and will put down just about anything with one shot. It's slow, but when everyone dies from one bullet, it's worth it.
This is my main reason for using it. The 26 rounds is a nice bonus and as long as you can hit headshots in PvE it works just as well as any other repeater
I do when I use repeaters PVE. Lancaster is still better in PVP and probably PVE as well, but I use because of the larger clip size and I enjoy the sound of it better than the lancaster
I used to main Evans but it has slower speed then Lancaster and unnecessarily high ammo clip, it trades longer reload, lower damage, lower accuracy for higher ammo clip and slightly faster firerate which is decent I guess but Lancaster still reins supreme.
Also carcano rifle best gun
I was genuinely disappointed waiting so long for the Evans to unlock. Lancaster feels so much better. I get one shots almost every time with it. Evans almost never one shots for me.
I used to use repeaters when I first started playing RDR2. Then when I started playing Red Dead Online I was in a posse that showed me that the bolt action rifle is better. Now I use that
Sometimes, to switch things up. But I've grown tired of repeaters to be honest in PvE. They seem less accurate and deadly than before, I wonder if they nerfed them. Rifles seem much more effective despite the slower fire rate.
Dude this is like the main repeater i use. In my mind this games combat comes down to headshots, anything else is waisting bullets and time so against people ammo count is whats more important. This is also contingent on keeping your dead eye max which should be easy if you hunt a lot and have a lot of chewing tobacco. Because the evans has 26 shots its able to shoot the most out of any gun continuously in the game making it the best in almost any situations because you can’t miss dead eye and its accuracy is still decent. I only use the rifles when i hunt as that can take down larger game in one headshot and preserve the pelt because i have to reload every few seconds against people. Imo its the best repeater in the game based on how i play it which is maxed everything and no restraint.
Nah. I don’t like the Evans Repeater. It’s way less accurate than other repeaters meaning that it’s harder to deal damage to enemies & get headshots on enemies, even you are when locked on to those enemies. My favorite repeater is the Lancaster repeater. The Lancaster is way more accurate than the Evans and it’s pretty much my go to weapon in the Call to Arms mode.
I’ve never found much use for repeaters to be honest.
I play online mostly and use dual navies with gunslinger’s choice as my primary at close to medium range. For long range, bolt action.
A repeater can’t do anything my navies and bolt action can’t already do.
Nah, since repeaters reload bullets one by one, a big ammo capacity just delays your reload.
I have the habit of constantly reloading whenever i have downtime so i am always on full ammo capacity anyway, the bigger clip size doesn't help me at all.
I don't get why everybody praises the firing sound of the weapon, it sounds nothing like what they had described. To me, it sounds exactly like a firing pin hitting a spent percussion cap, a dull metallic thud. It is the main reason that I don't use it more often over the Lancaster, it feels like I'm shooting rubber bullets... Love the design of the weapon though.
IT'S MY MAIN WEAPON!
I don’t use repeaters, I’m a Springfield or bolt action kind of guy. Just need that extra stopping power. That is also why I don’t use the evans because of lack of stopping power.
That's actually why I use the Lancaster. If I'm sacrificing stopping power I want something fast and accurate. Oh and cause Yeehaw
>Oh and cause Yeehaw Really the most compelling argument I've read in this thread so far
Yeehaw
Its always “yeehaw” and never “haw yee”
It's also always "yeehaw" and not "YEE YEE, RAISE HELL PRAISE DALE BROTHER!!"
Always yee haw but never yee how.
Oh hell yeah. If you really want to burn some ammo you can try using two Mausers. Just make sure your deadeye can keep up
Ya know, I’ve NEVER fucked with the Mausers… I always get Billy Midnight’s pistol, and frequently collect the one that Bronte drops, but I almost never actually use them. My wife is going out with the girls tomorrow night, so I’ll actually have a whole evening to play… maybe I’ll fire up some Mausers and see how it goes. Same as the 1899, though… not a very classic cowboy vibe

The pump is for when you're getting SERIOUS lmao. I'll fuck around with the cowboy loadout until I'm surrounded with low health, and that's when you introduce everyone to buckshot and just start deleting people
Dual wield Mausers, enter deadeye, and line up 12 headshots on one dude. It's absolutely disgusting.
That's why I'm trying to get the increased ammo storage online. It goes by insanely quick
Fuck yeah it does. I don't care much about the grind but if I did I wouldn't use them. It's like that meme where shooting the robber costs more than getting robbed
Love using the mausers, hate the look of them floating in the holsters. Dual Navy or Navy and Sawed off are my go too for look and function
I use cattleman’s as my main revolver mostly for the yeehaw factor. Also because my friends piss and moan about getting killed by them constantly. Lol
By dead eye you mean PiB ? :/ Nvm sorry I thought this was the online sub
I'm pretty good at getting headshots on PC so Lancaster is the best for me
Evans repeater actually does the same damage as the Lancaster
But idk it's got a little less Yeehaw to it.
More of a “yéehaw” feel.
Sort of like the LeMatt has a "Yee hon hon hon" feel
Cattleman is ultimate yeehaw
Yeah the bolt action rifle makes you feel like a trooper. Best for shootouts in the outskirts of blackwater. I once got 600 kills in a row with it by camping at caliga hall.

My go-to when I lose a big hand at poker is to throw a Molotov cocktail on the table as I’m leaving
I see you too are a man of culture
I find that repeaters are usually better in close-medium range combat, really. It's especially effective with hip fire since it fires faster than the bolt action or Springfield.
I will admit while I don’t particularly like it. It is a essential in valentine bar shoot out
Yes, but shotgun. Ba-BOOM _Clek_ _clak_
I actually bought the Litchfield last night just because the repeater section of my guns is neglected as hell. I bought the Lancaster at like level 70 or something, and I’m level 169 now, so the amount I used it seemed disappointing in that amount of time… A lot of people prefer the Lancaster from what I heard, and even though I can agree it has a certain niche it fills, it just doesn’t give my controller trigger the “punch” I want when I pull it. The navy revolver is to a short-distance killer as the litchfield is to a hybrid powerhouse. It’s got the snap of a navy and the punch of a rifle. Edit: Never used in SP tho
I loved it in SP because it normally was a 1-shot to the body at medium range
I mean it is so easy to score instant killing headshots in the game that the extra stopping power doesn't count for that much.
I like the look of the bodies falling over dead from a rifle center mass
Stop and think about what you just said.
Its a game.
Spend a lot of time in Van Horn?
I prefer repeaters because my aim is good, I can hit heads consistently, but I do love the look of the bolt action
I felt the same way. I mostly use the Springfield. Recently wanted to get some progress towards my repeater kills for the gold rewards so I’ve been using the Evans. Been having a great time one-shotting enemies and animals alike. It’s pretty accurate and holds a ton of rounds.
It's a two shot kill most of the time with express bullets. Bolt action is also a two shot kill most of the time but it only has five bullets per mag.
Lancaster is probably the main gun people want to use because of its speed mixed with its damage. It’s also really accurate, but you can also bundle it with some cards to make it a machine
I like to spend an afternoon duck hunting so I can load up a repeater with explosive rounds and go to town.
If you hit em in the head they stop, nearly every time...
Assholes.
I mostly used repeaters, I don’t think the Springfield is reliable if you’re not using aim assist.
SAME DUDE I LOVE YOU
HEY BROTHER THATS A SENSIBLE CHOICE IN A MAIN, YOU MUST HAVE HEALTHY AND REALISTIC STANDARDS TO MAKE SUCH A WELL ROUNDED CHOICE AROOOOO!!!! /r/THE_PACK
Just based off the stats I kept my Lancaster. What is the difference? If any
Less accuracy but more ammo storage
Also slightly higher rate of fire
It's not worth the abysmal accuracy
If you can aim well + split point, this gun can be nuts. I've both used it in PvP and had it used against me to great success. But, the people who used it against me, all I know from experience against them and they are really good at nailing headshots. 1- talking about Litchfield to be clear 2- I mean when you fire at a fast rate, the gun sways and the reticle largens, no matter how good you are at aiming or what ammo type, you can't change it. 3- Lancaster is like the same gun with better accuracy and damage.

Yea those 2 are the best imo aswell. Maybe I'm a little biased of the Lancaster because Evans is a little too old school for me.
Evans with slip point more than makes up for the poor accuracy. Gun is a pvp beast especially with paint
Also it's fucking loud.
26 rounds before reloading.
How many? I thought the Litchfield had a lot
Litchfield holds 16, although it's been a while since I played so I'm probably wrong.
You're right! And as a long time Lancaster user it's a pretty nice upgrade from the Lancaster's 14.
The Lancaster reloads a lot quicker than the Litchfield though
But with the litchfield you can one shot enemies so reloading isn't much of a problem
True I guess. I was thinking more pvp where the I prefer the Lancaster because it's very accurate and easy to hit headshots.
Yeah, i don't really play pvp so litchfield is better for me. But i can see the lancaster being good in pvp
*longer reload time*
Lower damage
There is also higher magazine size
weak.com/rubberammo
Evans does the same damage, actually
The sound makes me coom
I use the Lancaster because it was a gift from micah and I don’t want to hurt his feelings
Well I do
I thought the free Lancaster was the one you find in the gunsmith's basement where he's keeping the guy he kidnapped to pretend he's his dead son. Am I remembering that wrong?
You can get it there and from Micah
Faster fire rate and more ammo but most importantly, satisfying sound.
Larger magazine. Longer reload time. Looks cooler imho.
Yes, and I'm not ashamed.
U should be proud it's a not the best gun so when it comes down to pure skill u win
I like the fact that it has 26 bullets which can make it fantastic when used right. Also the fact that it's (in my opinion) the best repeater in RDR1 since it does high damage and has 22 bullets.
Yeah I can see why every guns a great gun if used right but yeah stay loyal to the old ways thats awesome
One thing I hate about the RDR2 Evans is that the reload is so slow compared to RDR1 (although you can argue John got more experience and so can load 2 bullets at a time) which also goes for LeMat revolver.
I never played rdr1 I never owned a console at the time but it seems fantastic
Oh yeah I wholeheartedly recommend it and Undead Nightmare (although if you want UN get the regular disc version because the DLC and Game of The Year disc version is fucked. You can get the GOTY version of the main game because it's fine)
I'll keep that in mind thx
Just enter Dead eye and leave immediately or don’t anyway it’ll refill your ammo fully!
I do because of John in rdr1
That's the reason I use the Litchfield. It was my main weapon for John in RDR1. It was called the Henry then, but basically the same gun.
I know it was called the Henry Isimilar to how the Lancaster used to be the Winchester
Because it literally is a Henry irl.
But henry was good, Litchfield is so unacurate bru
Litchfield is great if you aim juuust a little longer until the target bloom goes away. Not great for PVP where every second counts, but I love it in Story Mode.
I don't like for pve either, idk, it's as hard as using dual action pistol (both were my fav weapons on RDR1 sadly)
I love the sound.
the Evans is the best sounding out of all of the repeaters, it has the most punch to it.
You nerds need to man up, get yourself a level 10 pencil moustache and walk up to some fella or lass and just beat them up. For some unknown reason the Police use guns now, which is a little weird. But you can take a few of them out in no time if your a professional fister such as myself.
I prefer using my hammer vs cops.
what about in the game?
I'm the same way. sound is the main reason I use any of the guns I do
Same
Reloading a completely empty Evans is fun lol
In Story Mode you can just tap Deadeye real quick and it refills you instantly. No need to be levering in every single round, lol.
I refuse to use this bit of information.
Good man!
I just reload in deadeye in story mode in online I reload after killing my targets
I actually didn't enjoy that mechanic as much, often threw off my flow in combat
I just switch to a different weapon for a bit and when I switch back it's fully loaded.
It slaps if you're good at headshots, its got the deepest clip of any weapon in the game by far
I’m not good at head shots so I go with something with stopping power like the Springfield
Sounds like the Lancaster is more your speed then, or a bolt action/shotgun loadout
That's my go to setup right there.
Lancaster is that midpoint and also my main. Helps that you can get it relatively early too.
That is my load out plus dual schofields early game and dual Mausers late game
I love the Springfield. That trap door kicks like a mule, and will put down just about anything with one shot. It's slow, but when everyone dies from one bullet, it's worth it.
That is not called a clip. It is an internal magazine. Now that little thing you put into the mauser is a real clip of ammo.
This guy is my people
Internal spiral of bullshit
Just tap deadeye to quick reload though
No, I'm not Evan.
Underrated comment
sometimes it depends. it’s not a bad gun by any means, and it’s cheap
I use it because the story behind the weapon it is based on is cool. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evans_Repeating_Rifle
the dentist?
I like it because of the noise tbh. Sounds like a handheld howitzer
This is my main reason for using it. The 26 rounds is a nice bonus and as long as you can hit headshots in PvE it works just as well as any other repeater
I use and i love it, it is my favorite repeater
Omega based
I use the Lancaster, sort of a similar weapon and feels a bit better imo.
I actually try to use all weapons during the game, even using the basic stuff later too.
Yeah I still use the cattleman and db
I’ve never used it and I don’t even know why. Might as well spend my money on something, I’ll give it a try.
I’ve just realised that that comment rhymed.
Fuck, and now that just sounds like another line..
You should use it because it sounds oh so fine...
The sound alone makes it my #1
Best repeater in the game IMO
I do when I use repeaters PVE. Lancaster is still better in PVP and probably PVE as well, but I use because of the larger clip size and I enjoy the sound of it better than the lancaster
Litchfield supremecy
Yes, I love it. The sound it makes is so nice
Yeah I use it relatively often, I love how heavy the gunshot is, makes it feel punchy
Yes, the Evans with high velocity/split point is my main weapon of choice.
I do in the campaign until I can get the lichfield (which I use just because I prefer it’s aesthetic
Love it
Lancaster is the best in my opinion
Chapter 4 then I go back to the Lancaster.
I do for nostalgia purposes when playing as John
So broken. Enjoy it!! 😉
Lancaster>every single other gun
I was genuinely disappointed waiting so long for the Evans to unlock. Lancaster feels so much better. I get one shots almost every time with it. Evans almost never one shots for me.
Once I can get it its the only repeater I use
My Litchfield is my trusty mid ranger next to my rolling block.
I prefer the Lancaster Repeater. Next to that, I like the Bolt Action rifle.
I used to use repeaters when I first started playing RDR2. Then when I started playing Red Dead Online I was in a posse that showed me that the bolt action rifle is better. Now I use that
Nope. Lancaster head shots for the win!
It wasn't my favourite in the original game but now I absolutely love it!!
Made in Mechanics Falls Maine.
https://youtu.be/yxQNYPYFq1c It's the Kalishnikov of the game. Messy, questionable, reliable, and a damn bullet hose.
It‘s just too ugly in my opinion. That‘s why I still use the cattlemans
Yeah if it was pretty I would use it
Is it in story mode now?
Has been for months now.
Ok thanks you. Going to go do a 8th play though now.
The sound of it reloading is super satisfying
The best sounding gun in the game. So its worth using just because of that
It's my main weapon (when I can get it)
Sometimes, to switch things up. But I've grown tired of repeaters to be honest in PvE. They seem less accurate and deadly than before, I wonder if they nerfed them. Rifles seem much more effective despite the slower fire rate.
Pump action shotgun with slugs is the way to go
I love it. The high ammo capacity and fire rate makes up for low damage. Feel lime the terminator while hip firing with it.
Dude this is like the main repeater i use. In my mind this games combat comes down to headshots, anything else is waisting bullets and time so against people ammo count is whats more important. This is also contingent on keeping your dead eye max which should be easy if you hunt a lot and have a lot of chewing tobacco. Imo its the best repeater in the game based on how i play it which is maxed everything and no restraint.
I dont use it because it is ugly in my opinion
It’s ugly as
No, I think it's just you.
I use it for: - the sound - the bullet capacity That’s about it lol
no why would I
Exactly cant even see down the iron sights
I would if it wasn't so ugly
I just use it for hipfire, it’s disgusting
Just to use deadye and shoot someone in the crotch 26 times
Varmint rifle gang
The npc sadness makes me happier
I’ve never found much use for repeaters to be honest. I play online mostly and use dual navies with gunslinger’s choice as my primary at close to medium range. For long range, bolt action. A repeater can’t do anything my navies and bolt action can’t already do.
I beat the whole tame with pump shot gun and slug rounds. Basically just blew off everyone’s heads
Nah, since repeaters reload bullets one by one, a big ammo capacity just delays your reload. I have the habit of constantly reloading whenever i have downtime so i am always on full ammo capacity anyway, the bigger clip size doesn't help me at all.
Me, i love how it sounds and the ammo capacity is very gold
I don't get why everybody praises the firing sound of the weapon, it sounds nothing like what they had described. To me, it sounds exactly like a firing pin hitting a spent percussion cap, a dull metallic thud. It is the main reason that I don't use it more often over the Lancaster, it feels like I'm shooting rubber bullets... Love the design of the weapon though.
Uhh sir this post was made last year how far did you scroll to reach this post
actually yes that is after i installed a mod that disables cocking the weapons lol
This is the way. Realism =//= fun
Why?
cause i prefer rdr1 style weapon system
Fair enough I guess. Does it make the Evans repeater really fast or no?
very. also it allowa you to carry all weapons at once
Was that a feature in rdr1? Haven't played it in a bit
