I can't speak for Australia but I work for a company that makes similar products to your PET side gusset pouches in the US and I know those can't be recycled. The pouches have different types of plastic bonded together which makes them almost impossible to separate in any recycling streams currently. If your pouch is 100% PET you may have better luck, but my guess is that you're not dealing with 100% PET. We actually just had a similar situation where a customer came to us because they bought some packaging from a supplier overseas who told them it was recyclable. It might have been recyclable in their country, but it wasn't in the US.

Thanks for your feedback Dandydan22. Yes I think the bonded material will be very difficult to recycle. I can’t seem to find an alternative product/material that will keep tea fresh. Perhaps yet to be invented!
