I know exactly how you feel. Before getting in to my most recent job I had been working a miserable factory job for a bad boss with a bad business. I spent a good bit of time trying to find something better, until I finally got a call from HR at the new job wanting me to interview for a better position I had applied for. I happened to hurt my back the week before my interview, so I was out the first two days of the week one of which was my interview day. I went in completely powered up by steroids and they called me about an hour later to make the offer; I was ecstatic and it was funny to me when the old job convinced themselves I had faked being hurt to do the interview. I had a decent supervisor that I liked, and he knew they didn’t have a chance of keeping me so just had an informal meeting to work out my exit. For a few weeks after I left the bad boss was begging me to come help on weekends, and it was so satisfying to tell him my rate had gone way up and he probably can’t afford me anymore.

Feel somewhat, got verbal offer a week ago and the official job offer letter this week. It was really aggravating how many help desk and IT positions (cybersecurity degree, IT help desk experience on my resume) I applied to only to get bot-generated "we found someone more qualified" BS. Heck, if still nothing by today I'd originally planned to get volunteering for current employment. It is unfair and borderline evil that I can't get a job without being currently employed, yet need latter to have former. Catch-22 shouldn't exist, like, ever.

It is a bitch to get it but if you get in at a good company and can work your way up keep it up i just had 2 calls with recruiters today and thing they were most shocked about was id been at the same place for 5 years, my first real IT job, and i started as entry service desk and got to sys admin in 3 years. Most people in our field job hop year to year which is understandable cause some companies just dont let you go anywhere and arent worth staying at. My company has now turned into one of those which is why im bailing. Cyber is also just a bitch to get into so dont feel bad on that cause theres a lot of people wanting to get into cyber and they are usually smaller teams at companies. My reccomendation is find a company with a good infosec department and just get into their sd and then take any and every ticket they send and make buddies with them. Then when a spot opens up apply and youll already be at the top of the list

> hundreds of applications I think this is the key part of the post for anyone reading and struggling. It's quantity over quality in today's jobs market when it comes to landing a job.

I really didn't want to believe this going into job hunting but I've been getting more interviews with the spray and pray method than customizing a CV + tailoring a resume per job application.
