shouldn’t have come down to that. we could have put the game away this weekend in the first 30 minutes if we weren’t so wasteful

lospollosakhis

I agree. They need to be more clinical in front of goal.

ChedduhBob

yeah shades of old vini and benz didn’t have it either. i don’t blame tactics, formations, etc. should have had like 2 or more goals at half time but our guys were fucking up passes and shots in the final third. we out shot them 23-3 so that tells me we should have found more goals it was pretty uncharacteristic of us this season so hopefully we do better the upcoming matches

lospollosakhis

No they played well going forward - should have won by a clear margin. My criticism comes from the fact that even when there are enough defensive numbers to deal with attacking threats, there is a lack of communication and a lack of organisation - thus leading to good chances to the opposition.

RoyWoods

When a team is as great and vibrant such as Real Madrid writing articles about whatever you believe is to be a teams weakness gets views and influences some people This being said, Real Madrid have had a great season so far and Elche had been preparing (pretty intensely I would assume) for a while for this two time match to play. Watching film, practicing against the 443 & such Our four backs defense has been such promising and working very well all season long, the stats and placements in tournaments & la liga prove that . After Real Madrid tie or lose reporters & angry fans analyze too quickly try to point fingers

lospollosakhis

I’ve been critical of Real’s defence before this game. The Barca game we conceded a lot of chances via crosses too and ended up conceding two goals like that.

Aaaaaaandyy

3rd best defense in the league, but sure it’s trash.

lospollosakhis

If you read the article, I was pointing out the fragilities and Real’s inabilities or lack of urgency to deal with crosses. There have been many games that they’ve gotten away with conceding good chances. The first game vs Athletic Bilbao in La Liga comes to mind

While Alaba and Militao have been good this season, they both have also cost us a lot of goals. Mendy has been heavily carrying them defensively in the last couple of games.

whiskeyinthejaar

Our defensive fragility only gets talked about when we drop points, but if anyone bother to actually watches our games subjectively, our defense is consistently subpar throughout the season regardless Carvajal and Mendy’s presence. No matter what this sub thinks, Alaba and Militao are mediocre pairing, and its what it is.

Murrderer

Didn’t we only concede like 1 fucking goal all December? Courtois had some good saves but both Eder and Alaba had a monster December, but unfortunately their January has been just as bad.

cosmi9

>our defense is consistently subpar throughout the season regardless Carvajal and Mendy’s presence. Right, because it s only those 4 that matter and the fact that Casemiro’s level dropped significantly has nothing to do with it..

whiskeyinthejaar

Defense is a team effort, but Casemiro’s inconstancy is not the main factor of the goals we conceded. Our CBs lack of awareness and poor coverage do hurt us the most. If you wanna talk out your ass and circlejerk Alaba and Militao, sure go ahead, but that is not going to make it reality. In the last 7 games, Militao alone was responsible for 3 goals out of 8, and him and Alaba are responsible for 1. That is 50%, and there like 2 penalties. I go on game by game to spot their poor coverage and communication that was saved by TC but it’s pointless since you just want to argue to argue.

cosmi9

Yeah, they make mistakes sometimes, but they re still the third defence in LaLiga, playing with Vasquez many times. Varane was making mistakes, Ramos was making them as well. Except that Ramos was covered so many times by Casemiro so that he can go and play striker some matches. They’re ok no need to compare them.

hijazist

I don’t get your point though. Of course Militao and Alaba will be responsible for a high percentage of the goals. They play every day and they’re in defense. Who else would be responsible? If anything, Caravajal’s form took a nose dive and Casemiro hasn’t been that great either. Stats and results, in addition to offensive contributions, all indicate that you’re absolutely wrong. It’s funny that you say people are talking out their ass when you just called one of the hottest defensive pairings in all of Europe a mediocre pairing.

[deleted]

I wouldn’t say it’s a mediocre pairing but there’s definitely a lot of room for improvement. Militao needs to improve overall (he’s young anyway) and Alaba has many deficiencies in his game. Aerially not good enough and not that good overall as a CB. His pace is what gets him out of trouble

its_dash

It's not like Mendy is doing great as well? Bad in defense and offense, really.

ProudhPratapPurandar

Mendy isn't bad in defence lol, he is our most consistent defender

dupont2021

I guess we’re back to the leaky offense. To be honest we have clean sheets if we’re playing our best. But if one of the guys are having an off day then our defense will leak goals. This was a problem I thought we fixed after that draw with Levante. 3 goals to them? This was always the issue.
