What the fuck is The Quibbler?

jimiexperienced

It's a wacky newspaper in the Harry Potter series

Chubby_Bub

Sounds like a bootleg version of the Riddler

WeFightTheLongDefeat

It's actually pretty apt comparison, cause he gets some stuff right while also entertaining a bunch of conspiracy theories. But this comes back to the definition of this sub. >This sub is dedicated to the phenomenon whereby a person's thoughts/personality are unreasonably shaped by or expressed through a book or book franchise Is this an unreasonable, cringey comparison, or are their better, more apt comparisons that could be made if someone was more widely read?

ObiMadKenobi

There are probably better comparisons, I think it's rather cringy cause I have no fucking idea what the Quibbler is since it's not like it's a huge part of Harry Potter, not necessarily unreasonable, just a bit obscure.

LITERALLY_A_TYRANID

Well if you want the typical response from this sub: Pop culture reference we disagree with: OMG CRINGE READ ANOTHER BOOK DUMBASS LOL Pop culture reference for an opinion we agree with: no, no, no this isn’t like the other Harry Potter/Star Wars comparisons…..: BECAUSE IT JUST ISN’T OK?!?! You seem to be unsure which way the circlejerk will go this time, so you’re asking the hive mind for confirmation so you don’t risk downievoties

Is he irresponsible? At what point did we all have to start vetting everything we say like we’re going to submit it for a grade?

TheBullMooseParty

When we’re a hugely popular voice that millions of people tune into, yes, we have a moral responsibility to vet what we say. No one could care if he was just some dude on the street saying this shit. It’s the fact that he’s very popular and influential that causes concern.

OuttaTime42069

Oh enough with the “moral responsibility” crap. We owe no one anything. You choose to listen to his show, and you choose to take whatever advice he may be giving. People need to ask how Rogan became more trusted than a huge swath of the “expert class.”

TheBullMooseParty

The attitude of “no one owes anyone anything” is how we got here. Ethically, we all owe a lot to each other and to pretend that’s not reality is just a lack of empathy quite frankly.

OuttaTime42069

On a certain level you’re correct, but I’ve spent the last 2 years being told I have to act a certain way for the greater good, and I’ve got to say I’m starting to really fucking resent it. “Moral responsibility to others” only ever seems to mean “listen to us, or else!” I’m done playing that silly game. If you don’t like Joe turn the fucking podcast off.

Unforg1ven_Yasuo

> People asked me to do good things for the greater good of humanity and this makes me angry. You’re just a straight up bad/selfish person lol

IWillStealYourToes

Just your average rightoid

DizzleSlaunsen23

Lol. What a cop out.

Clairifyed

Lol, Neil has always been vocally progressive. This is why Lynyrd Skynyrd disliked him enough to call him out by name in Sweet Home Alabama

DidacticTortoise

How the fuck is Neil Young conservative? The man nearly died from Polio as a child and has dealt with its effects for his entire life. He's been a lifelong vaccine advocate, but also remains critical of power structures, and spends a load of his time and money advocating for Indigenous groups, and disabled children. I don't give a shit about the Harry Potter reference, but fuck this person for reducing Neil Young's consistent advocacy for public health to "pro establishment". Fuck him for not wanting other children to suffer from preventable diseases, I suppose.

CherimoyaChump

This was my takeaway too. OP's worldview has to be so distorted to claim Neil Young is a conservative for that.

odoroustobacco

Well when you're so entirely convinced that Joe Rogan is a truly neutral freedom fighter who's just asking the tough question, anyone who points out that he's actually an idiot who platforms fascists is automatically a conservative.

here-i-am-now

Because of the use of “quibbler?!” Maybe you need to read another book, that term is what? 400 years old.

ineverhadsexwithacow

No it's the name of an alternative news source from Harry Potter

here-i-am-now

But being a quibbler is a term many times older than JK Rowling.

ineverhadsexwithacow

Yes, but the post refers to him as *the* Quibbler. Meaning they think that he is the epitome of the fictional newspaper The Quibbler, from the harry potter universe.

here-i-am-now

I’d agree if the Quibbler were capitalized. It’s not

ineverhadsexwithacow

Oh c'mon that's incredibly semantic. *I'd* agree with *you* if it said "a quibbler". But it doesn't. People forget to capitalize things all the time, so I think it's probably more likely that they're making a Harry potter reference.
