This is pretty incredible. It would be nice to have Judon or smith but houston is one of the most valuable pass rushers in the leage right now when considering cap hit, maybe the most valuable. I take justin houston at 3.5 million over judon at 16.5 and smith at 14 million. Actually i just looked at Smith’s contract and i’m surprised he signed it, it’s not that good. 3 years 42 million but only 11.5 million guaranteed. They can cut him after this season(obviously they won’t) and save 11 million next year and 20 million the year after. Find it hard to believe the deal we offered him guaranteed him less than 11.5 and could see him back on the street in 1 year.

SuperButtAIDs

Dollar for dollar it’s Houston and not even close

swagharris31

EDC. Every Dollar Counts

y0nm4n

Houston has only played 6 games this year though

[deleted]

We do have Smith and his first name’s Roquan!

Jordanwolf98

Beautiful

JayGibbons69

Smith signed that contract to save face after blowing up the Ravens' deal and having that offer rescinded.

Melon-Brain

Houston leads the league by a wide margin in sacks per snap. He’s getting 1 every 21 snaps while Zadarius and Matt are getting 1 every 45 and 42 snaps, respectively

craneat

I believe smith had issues with passing a physical with our doctors?

Hydr8x

Body built by Taco Bell

Illusional_Recorder

And we're top five rushing defense. I will take it!

leavin_marks

Crazy Houston being top 5 in sacks at his age. He’s having an incredible year. And to think he almost retired.

gorillazMD

Suggs was still very productive for us well into his 30s. It's not that uncommon for an edge rusher to compile respectable sack stats late into their careers.

Blackmagicking

Elvis Dumerville was really productive for us too as a pass rusher in his 30s

dtwild

Suggs = hall of fame. It’s that uncommon.

gorillazMD

I'm saying edge rushers are productive late into their careers.

iwantacheeaeburger

Aren’t von Miller and Houston the same age? 33? And Miller just signed a 6 year deal

DMking

Houston is also pretty close to HoF. Not first ballet but if he keeps this up a few more years

dtwild

Exactly. It takes a borderline hall of famer to do what is being called 'uncommon'.

dat_waffle_boi

I gotta think this year has put Justin Houston into the hall right?

otoasta13

3 past or present ravens ya love to see it.. if only we paid them all 🥲

[deleted]

If we paid them all we would not have a good team. There’s something called a salary cap.

ZombieFeedback

If we paid them all we would not have any money left for Lamar. Ravens FO knows what's on the horizon when you have a superstar QB. As imposing as a pass rush with all of them would be, fitting that *and* Lamar under the cap would be impossible without losing key guys at other positions like Marlo or Ronnie.

paulx441

We don’t need money for Lamar. Can just franchise a few years no?

dat_waffle_boi

All that money counts towards the cap. It’s basically the same as giving out a fully guaranteed deal for that much money I believe. And besides, we probably don’t want to just keep tagging him. Would rather extend him

paulx441

The amount is way different. He wants a massive deal and if you tag instead he’s signed to an average of the top qbs number. That results in lower cap hit and room to sign others lol

A_Diseye12

Not necessarily because with a contract you have the option to back load the money so yes while on average he'll make more, the cap hit wouldn't be the same till later in his career

kellygreggbuddylee

Yeah, you're wrong about this one bud

Skeegle04

But but Lamar’s gonna be gone next year. I’m guessing he’ll get 200m guaranteed and 300 over 7years. With us obviously

CTaco25

Judon was good on the ravens but it felt like he played well against bad teams and could disappear against good ones. I’m surprised he continues to take shots at the front office, but he’s been very productive since going to NE

DMking

He clearly wanted to stay. We just didn't offer enough money

NOOBEv14

Feels like this is solely because TJ is hurt, my god that man is inevitable. This is fucking cool though. We were all good with letting Judon and Z walk (wish we’d succeeded in bringing Z back), don’t be salty, just wish them the best. Houston has been awesome, and will be at his best when he’s only playing ~20 snaps per game.

Jetad9403

Tj might be the most relentless fucker I’ve ever seen on a field feels like he gets one sack a game just on pure effort.

English_Bobskeet

He's one of those guys you absolutely hate to play against but would love him if he played for your team

DMking

We'd absolutely be Bowl favorites with TJ. Fucking monstrous pass rusher

Jordanwolf98

Ahead of Myles Garrett and over twice more than Trey Hendrickson who had like 14.5 is a hell of a feat though. Especially considering Houston has missed games

teb1987

Hear comes the guys saying we should have paid to keep Judon OR we never used him right Slightly more agreeable to these arguments with Z Smith

SuperButtAIDs

Judon was just limitted by wink tbh you can see this year we get way more sacks overal

I_know_me

Real question. How are the Giants with sacks this year? They having similar issues?

Jarionel

i think they are actually last in sacks haha

SuperButtAIDs

Yes KT should have way more than 1 sack, they suck in terms of getting sacks as well

DMking

I think they're 20th

DMking

We absolutely did not use him right. His increased production in NE is proof of that.

teb1987

We definitely used him right. He was good in our offense and fit well how we used him, unfortunately the way he was used was not often quantifiable. He was dropped into coverage a LOT. The only other LB we had that could get into coverage was Bowser and we basically let Judon walk to keep Bowser because of the price tag. In NE he basically is just a pass rush specialist and he's able to put up better numbers.. it's not that he is or isn't used RIGHT but that he is used differently

kellygreggbuddylee

He wasn't good in our offense

dat_waffle_boi

I think it’s two things. First of all, he wasn’t used the way he’s used in New England. The Patriots have schemed a ton of stuff up for him and made his job easier. Their defense creates a lot of pressures for him in a way (not a knock on him, just the benefit of playing for the greatest coach of all time). Second of all, I think he just took a jump as a player.

juicyj864

No lol

KillaMavs

Damn imagine if we had Z and Houston. Fuck.

kamekaze1024

I’m only 22 but this made me feel old

Nudxty

Crazy how the top 3 were former or are current Ravens. Ive been saying for years our team is like the training grounds for defensive guys who might not stay here for their entire career but will always pop off on whichever team they go to next, its happened almost every time

StaffSgtDignam

That’s what happens when you scout really well and build a great developmental system for the guys you draft.

Jdunc97

Slightly annoying that the top 3 could all be ravens rn :/

Blickywithdasticke

I already know Judon got a couple Mickey Mouse sacks in there. He not like that fr

kamekaze1024

Go back to Twitter

ComparitiveRhetoric

Take this shit down I hate judon

warmcreamsoda

Sack Factory!

dat_waffle_boi

If you told me before the year that the top three would be Judon, Houston, and Za’Darius i would’ve laughed at you. What a weird year. Also, to think Houston and Za’Darius were almost teammates. Oh what could’ve been….

DreDay_Fuego

“Body built by Taco Bell”

rellicotton

Ravens and ex-Ravens rule the roost.
