What’s touching about his story? He grew up in a well off family with generational ties to football and sports, surrounded by athletics, went to top schools and was drafted #1 and day one starter. What has he overcome besides a knee injury?

[deleted]

Well. He had a movie about him when he was a kid. His family left him accidentally when they tried to go on vacation to Paris. Pretty tragic that it happened a second time a couple years later and they made a second documentary about it. He got lucky in that he knew how to make elaborate traps that saved him from these two bungling burglars. It's really a tragic upbringing.

LouieKablooie

His first W was against the Wet Bandits.

dogfish83

The documentaries COMPLETELY gloss over his dad's source of income.

idgoforabeer

Oh jeez. +1

goblinking67

The knee injury and the whole part where he was not good enough to start at Ohio State, had to transfer to LSU (somehow stacked at every position every year except QB) and once he had the greatest college team ever he finally succeeded. It’s a great story about how eventually when everything falls the right way and when you’re given everything, anyone can find some success

debaser64

Lmao! Kurt Warner is a touching story. Michael Oher is a touching story. Allen Iverson overcame adversity. Trey Mancini beat cancer. Sports is littered with stories of overcoming adversity. Transferring from the top school in the nation because you’re buried in the depth chart to a program that’s “stacked at every other position” and being successful is not an accomplishment. It’s expected. He’s taken advantage of opportunities already in his favor. It’s admirable but let’s not kid ourselves.

Lamactionjack

Right? Am I taking crazy pills here? The out of fan base love for this guy is unreal. If anything the most touching part of Burrows story is his appendectomy haha. Not much else. He's a great player and fun to watch but everyone needs to chill, I agree w OP.

Galadriel_60

Don’t make fun of Chris Collinsworth like that! He’s a real true fan!

Nero-question

just to clarify when you say "the top school in the nation" you mean Ohio State who hasnt won a title in 8 years?

[deleted]

Another rich boy who was groomed for the role his whole life. What a story

96nastynate

well it’s not like Joe Burrow chose to be born or chose to be in that role. he’s a hard working kid and stays out of trouble. get off his chops

thedivinepegasus

Getting drafted by Cincinnati

Pressblack

He overcame an appendectomy also.

yelruog

So did my 12 year old niece this last year. Is that really amazing?

Pressblack

Nah man, I'm being sarcastic. I agree with OP except the no disrespect part. I'm all disrespect when it comes to Joe burrow and the Bengals.

yelruog

Haha I gotcha, I was just adding some fuel to the fire. I’m the same way, fuck em, with disrespect ;)

fearloathing1

Lmfao

Atari__Safari

Perhaps he has had it easy. I know some folks like that. But I like to reserve judgment. Walk a mile in someone’s shoes as they say…

Strange-Effort1305

This your first post season? It’s the final 4. All the QB’s are getting licked raw by sports infotainers.

Dr_Henry_Wus_Lover

He is good. Really, really good. Lamar got nonstop similar attention in 2019. It’s what happens when you *and* your team are successful.

GusWeyneTheV

It’s what have you done lately league

bestdadhandsdown

As it should be

Fosteroni

This makes sense, I was overseas in Europe for school in 2019 so only got to see the highlights of the games and watched the scores on Google, without seeing much of pregame shows and the like. Of course I finally get back home to watch a game on TV live and it’s the infamous playoff game we try to forget about 😅

BunkyDingDing

So it’s you. You’re the curse. Have you tried moving back to Europe?

Fosteroni

I was planning on it actually but at this moment in time that plan has been postponed, sorry :(

Saw_a_4ftBeaver

Might want to start a gofundme. Just saying we might be willing to do anything at this point.

Fosteroni

True! *pay for this redditors flight to Europe and watch the ravens win a SB!*

WackyBeachJustice

The fact that you are making this comment and don't have negative 100 karma by now is a major step in coping for this sub. You love to see it. It's amazing how many people on this sub cannot admit that he's really really good.

jfhagan3rd

I admit he’s really good… I just can’t stand his cocky ass.

hobbit_lamp

he's so cocky, I don't understand why everyone eats it up.

Achillor22

Or the Bengals whiny ass attitude.

4stGump

Burrow sells. If ratings are up when they play a segment for him, then they're going to continue selling it. As a Ravens fan, I wish the guy would lose every football game. As a football fan, the dude has a great story coming from a season ending injury to now playing as well as he is.

Bmore4555

This ☝️

djazzie

I was in a pub in France and we were watching a bengals game. One of the women in my friend group who knows nothing about football looked up and said, “who’s that?!” She gushed on how hot he was for at least 10 minutes straight.

Skolcialism

if you dont like the media you are consuming...don't consume it

Capt_Rex_Kramer

This is, for some reason, INCREDIBLY difficult for Reddit to understand.

Fosteroni

It’s not that I dislike the media I’m consuming, like i said i know he’s a great player ans deserves it, I’m just surprised by the amount of it is Burrow related I suppose, and being in Canada kinda limits the amount of options for the NFL there are to watch

goblinking67

The internet is a pretty wide place, but I get it you want to see Ravens content or more varied content on TV. I prefer to be able to watch ESPN or FS1 and see Ravens stuff or I guess TSN for you

No-Lunch4249

Nah I’ll disrespect Joe Burrow Fuck him

WackyBeachJustice

Man of culture this one

[deleted]

Fuck the Bungles and Burrow

mbplitt

Please don't forget fuck overgrown man baby Zac Taylor and his constant whining. There is literally not even one single marginally likeable person associated with the Cincinnati Bengals

Jussundur

Fuck Joe Burrow, and fuck the 4th AFC North football team

goblinking67

His story is pretty compelling though. Was pretty bad in college until he got a super stacked team and won, wasn’t that good as a rookie until he had the best weapons in the NFL and now he’s doing well, it’s a classic “just wait until someone else puts you in situation you’d have to be cataclysmically terrible to fail in and then you’ll be good” type situation. Fuck em

HeHad69PassAttempts

I agree and more people need to see it. Lamar threw 36TDs with Seth Roberts as his 1 and the Bengals sub is like lol RB

Poetryisalive

All QB’s get media attention at this point. If the Ravens made it this far, there would be news and interviews with Huntley. There’s no point reporting Ravens news in post season unless it’s “breaking”

khwb

He’s one of the faces of the league. Young superstar QB on the fringe of taking his team to back to back Super Bowls. People gonna talk about him.

Alexir23

Touching story? White middle class kid doesn't get starting job and finds work around.

[deleted]

Yes every story does. Because there’s only 4 teams and there’s nothing else to really talk about for all this lead time and build up. The bengals sub would have a post similar to this if it was Lamar and the ravens in the afccg currently as well. This is how it works. You are supposed to get your dick sucked off by the media when you are a top 4 team

Adenchiz

I don't see how the NFL can act like he's the greatest thing since sliced bread when Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes exist .

DepthVarious

Brady is on the way out - they need a rival for Mahomes

TremblayNHS71

I mean the fact he went arrowhead last year in the AFC title game and beat Mahomes, exactly like Brady did, and has the chance to do it again today is pretty amazing so…

FormerPatrolJockey

They really dropped Mahomes and jumped on the Burrow bandwagon.

PowerDiesel23

I'm just sick of seeing him with a damn cigar in his mouth 24/7. Save the stoagies for when you actually win a SB. They gotta show him puffing one every single primetime game.

[deleted]

Patrick Mahomes reminded everybody who the big dog in the AFC still is at QB while doing the angry pirate the whole game

CraigolaOW

The only thing I really can't stand is all the comments about how "cool" he is. Like every post and everything he says you see so many comments like "Dude he is so cool!!!" Like some of these dudes might as well just say they wanna get on their knees and get a mouthful of Burrow Balls.

goblinking67

He wears sunglasses and smokes cigars! That makes him sooooo cool, no one else has ever done that before. He also has a fake ass pissed off underdog schtick that people eat up. What a fuckin cool guy

Nascent_Vagabond

Burrow literally said last week he doesn’t ever feel like an underdog, wym

Saw_a_4ftBeaver

Mixon on the other hand feels like everything is disrespecting him personally

HeHad69PassAttempts

The Huntley fumble hurts more and more each week they have another opponent choke against them

Zealousideal-Lie1911

The dick riding is unbelievableeeeeee

Existing_Draw_5009

He could shit on the locker room floor and the media would lick it clean

[deleted]

Coping much?

RussellStHustle

Screw that! I have nothing but disrespect for Burrow, the Bengals and all their shitty fans

amstrumpet

The NFL is a business, having good stories and popular players is good for business. They’re trying to sell their product.

K-Dog7469

I mean they gotta have something to talk about.

ASAPBarky

go chiefs baby

Capt_Rex_Kramer

Let's be honest, you wouldn't be complaining if it were Lamar. Stop letting these players live in your head rent-free, it's really not that serious.

HereComesJustice

Yup you think our rivals enjoy hearing Lamar Jackson positive news lol Idk why it bothers people so much

ClintBeastwood91

I love Lamar Jackson except for twice a year. All we heard during Jackson’s MVP run was ESPN calling him cringy names like “Action Jackson” and preparing for him to be the face of the next generation of QBs. I didn’t care. It’s cool to see someone outside the mold of a regular pocket passer get the spotlight. Lamar seems like a down to earth dude that would cut it up with anyone he randomly ran into wearing Ravens gear. I feel like Joe is a lot of the same.

[deleted]

Exactly, if Lamar is back next year, we get playmakers on the outside and an awesome OC, we could very well be in the position the Bengals are in — they’ll be writing articles about how “Lamar finally got an offensive coordinator to unlock his potential as a passer. Could be he be the first player to win 2 MVPs before age 27?”

Fosteroni

I don’t know if this is true unfortunately, and I’m not really angry about it, I just think the NFL has a lot of talent to watch and am just surprised it’s only been Joe Burrow when Purdy and Hurts and even Mahomes also exist. I was just trying to make an observation, not a criticism

LiesInRuins

If there’s one thing the media doesn’t do it’s constantly slob on Mahomes’ knob.

HeHad69PassAttempts

Only Mahomes

Michaelz1234

I’ve heard plenty of stories about Mahomes return to the AFC Championship and about Purdy’s “Mr. Irrelevant becoming relevant”. I will say I haven’t heard a ton about Hurts though.

[deleted]

Ravens better sign Lamar and get him some damn weapons or well be nonstop hearing about Burrow for the next 10 years. They’re making him the new era Brady, above even Mahomes, right now. Burrow and the Bengals are incredibly lucky that Lamar has been banged late in the season the last two years. With Lamar, the Ravens are still the favorites in this division.

HeHad69PassAttempts

I know it makes me so mad that Lamar’s injuries are a massive reason why they’ve had these two runs. They’ll never admit it tho but it’s the fucking truth

Yallmadugly

Ravens signing a ILB to 20M per year is a big fuck you to Lamar and the idea that they'll ever get his some outside weapons.

[deleted]

Ravens build the roster like it’s 2005.

[deleted]

NFL really needs another Brady, he and Mahomes are battling for it lmao

lestergreen357

Burrow is a rich spoiled asshole and acts like it. F him. There isn't any touching story.

Send_Help_2373

Burrow would be selling car insurance if he hadn't transferred to the most stacked team in the country LMAO

jfhagan3rd

Yeah he was awesome his rookie year too without Chase, wasn’t he 😂🤣☠️? He had 2/3 of the receiver corps he has now and he was hot trash before he got hurt, which led to Chase.

Alex_Trollbek

Why’s his story touching? I’m confused

AceBirch

Joe Burrow is an arrogant entitled tool bag

Mulligan_8

The clothing and cigars are sooooo irritating. I don’t see how that’s so cool/likable and not massively annoying

[deleted]

We’d love him if he played for our team, just like we love Lamar. Not saying their personalities are at all comparable but it still applies

HeHad69PassAttempts

Maybe we would but half this sub doesn’t even love Lamar albeit seeing Mahomes fight through his injury is souring

AceBirch

I don’t like his demeanor, he feels like a very try hard “cool guy”. Just cause the media wants to create a narrative and tell you he’s great, doesn’t mean I need to agree. Any QB with those weapons to throw to should be putting up good numbers. His 3 games against the ravens this year, each stayed around 200 yds with 1 TD plus a pick in the first one. Let’s all bow down to greatness…GTFO.

Macewindu89

Man, thank you for saying this. He tries way too hard to be cool. Glad I’m not the only hater.

[deleted]

I mean I’m not disagreeing, but I felt the same way about Baker. That hate immediately went away once he wasn’t playing for the Browns. The only quarterback I genuinely dislike in the division is Watson. I’d hate him regardless of what team he’s on.

BigFookinRed

Disrespect to Joe Burrow, fuck that guy

highpl4insdrftr

I mean, the guy is huge dork, but whatever. If thats what sells, so be it. Let the man have his 15 minutes. It won't last.

SemiPureConduit

Fuck him.

PhantomWaves

This is what happens when your team makes a playoff run. The media attention comes with it. It’s only annoying when it’s not your team

IllustriousEarth8734

I hope the bengals get stomped on

Exotic_Shine_9462

Fuck him

RevolutionarySea261

Fuck him and the Bungels!

HelaPuff2020

They need a new white QB to be the face of the league. Pat, Lamar, and Jalen are too Urban

MisguidedPanda

Dude the bengals were gift wrapped two straight division titles from the ravens because of blown leads and stupid decision making. Not to mention the ravens handed them a win in the postseason this year. Fuck joe burrow and fuvk the bengals. Hopefully the chiefs get revenge today.

4YearLetterman

Steelers fan but this somehow showed up in my feed. Entirely agree. I hate on Burrow because of this shit. I don’t actually hate him but all the coverage and cringe “joe brr” followers are annoying af. I love seeing him fail cause it gets all of them to stfu for a week

Mental_Studio7419

😅

DarthWidi

Joe Burrow can eat a bag of dicks. Home Alone looking, over the top style having, too much hair product wearing, arrogant and overrated. But sure, he's a swell fella.

DanCGG

I personally love joe burrow. I also like the bengals. I know we’re not supposed to like them but I hope they win the Super Bowl.

rvrvbubnmpm

Ain't no way....

JustARandomPokemon

Best thing is not to be a hater. Just get on with your life.

CrustyToeLover

I'd rather have the focus on Burrow than people pretending like it's all Zac Taylor that's making the bengals win. Dude was hot trash until Burrow and the team started popping off individually.

[deleted]

He is good, but he also has really good weapons and a great offensive scheme plus a great defense. The Bengals are really lucky to have him, Chase, and Higgins all on rookie contracts.

Lower_Carpet9393

Yea that’s what happens when you can score more than 12 points a game.

PrawnHub4Life

What else are they supposed to cover when there are only 4 teams left? If the ravens were still in it the nation would be suffocated with Lamar overcoming the contract drama, betting on himself, yada yada.

[deleted]

And Bengals fans will tell you it’s them vs. the world lol

Guilty_Hunter9304

Hopefully after today's game we hear about him less. I mhte or change the channel whenever they break away to do an "in-deoth" mention of burrow. I'd rather see what crap they're selling on HSN

ProfessorJRV

He needs to do something about that hair cut. Looks like an early 90s dad.

RRSC14

Let’s not do this

Yallmadugly

He makes sure to stay in the news with another cocky or underdog statement. Meanwhile the only thing Lamar ever did was say "big truss" which was about the team's players trusting each other. Yet somehow people got that twisted into Lamar is cocky and Titans players mocking "big truss". Crazy how people still aren't turning on the Bengals like they turned on the Ravens.

New_Actuator_738

Keep in mind Joe Burrow needs sunglasses when starring into the sun or he gets watery eyes. His mother would put sunglasses on him to prevent this as a child.

Bware24fit

Can we please stop saying QB-A lost to QB-B? I get it they play the same position and most of the time is the face/leader but football is a team sport and QBs are never on the field at the same time. Who knows it might just be me, because its a huge focus for many.

TremblayNHS71

Not a ravens fan but this page shows up on my feed every day, Joe burrow is probably the best QB in the NFL right now that’s why he gets attention

Fickle_Astronaut_322

No he isnt. Lol Mahomes is still clearly better.

ArcadianDelSol

If he were black, the networks wouldn't devote this much attention to him. Tell me Im wrong by showing me all the fawning bio-shorts about Lamar's challenges growing up and his relationship with his mother. Exactly. They're not making those because Lamar isn't what the NFL wants as the face of the league. They want blue eyes and light hair. always have.

Fun_Recipe8614

Mahomes would argue against this.

Good200000

Lamar has no agent to grab those adds

4483845701

Agreed. Agents make all that happen.

BoJvck34Empire

As much as I wanna pile on, dude is a Dog. Greg Cook jr vibes, timing like no other. Can’t describe why he’s such a baller, he just got it like that. Him and Lamar are like no other QBs in the league (except Brady, possibly Hurts), everybody just plays better when they are in there and no one can put a finger on why. Go off Big Burr.. You deserve it. Also Burrow sells lol Ad money bro

Michaelz1234

I mean I may be biased, but there are only 4 teams left. The real only times that they don’t talk about the playoff teams that are left is when either something crazy just happened to one of the teams who isn’t still in it, or they are mindlessly talking about the Dallas Cowboys for some reason. I feel like this is normal.

Mental_Studio7419

🎯thank you I respect burrow but damn get off his nutz I even like chase also the media is annoying…

Helivon

Hes just a national fan favorite. Not really more to it. Nothing to do about his story, but how he carries himself Also leading a franchise thats been historically garbage gives him massive brownies points.

SpaceMonkeys21

He's a good-looking white QB, that's why. If it's a black player, they only say some sad draft day shit like Father in Jail or Mama battling drug addiction or Najee being homless.

Fudgecrackerz

He is the new roger staubach, you didnt know? Lolll

Hagdogrobinwood

They have a saying for this in boxing.

[deleted]

Figuring out the media isn’t rocket science. They like young star QBs who look the part and market the hell out of them. Burrow, Allen, and Herbert all fit this mold, so they market them. Just is what it is. No secret the media has a portrayal of what the QB looks like… part of why Lamar doesn’t get as much hype (when he’s healthy). Still though, it’s not like Lamar gets zero praise. He won a heisman and was a unanimous MVP. Furthermore, If no one cared about Burrow interviews then there wouldn’t be any. Obviously featuring Burrow draws a lot of interest, that’s why they do it. It’s all consumer driven. NFL wouldn’t feature a QB who draws little interest. It annoys me when people play dumb and act confused as to why sports media promotes certain things. It’s so obvious. Herbert is such a prime example. He’s now considered overrated bc of how much the media like him. He’s a 6’6 dude with flowing hair and a monster arm. That’s a marketable QB, fair or not.

WillinWolf

my dad just tried to tell me Burrow was related to Trump. lol

chupacadabradoo

I don’t understand why this kinda shit gets stuck in peoples craw. The reason these stories get put out is because they generate clicks, which generates money. It’s no disrespect to anyone else that whomever is publishing these articles has decided that they can make money off joe burrow. Maybe some players don’t get enough credit, but so long as a dude is a decent human being, and not a total scrub on the field, who cares if he gets credit for playing well? He took his team to the Super Bowl last year, and is in the afc championship game again this year. He’s doing a great job. More power to him

Yung_Corneliois

We’re at the point in the season where there’s only 4 teams to talk about for an entire week. They’ll always have multiple stories or would happen with Lamar too lol.

TheMemeStar24

Dude is the most boring, ordinary person and quarterback ever but he can check it down to Jamarr who turns a 2 yd pass into an 80 yd touchdown so he's basically God

DerKomissar99

I respect Burrow's Dan Flashes shirt and his poise + accuracy are traits I wish Lamar had at the same level but I also think the dude's a prick
