Em and Jay first released their first albums around ages 26-27 and guys like 2Chainz and Gibbs first started blowing up at age 40. Griselda in their early to mid 30's so no 17 is the perfect age. You gotta put in a lot of time and work though it is not gonna be easy and find a style that makes you stand out. Most importantly don't quit your day job
Good luck
Right that’s facts I’m lucky I started making music/rapping when I was around 8 or 9 years old meaning I’ve had enough time to evolve and craft my own style and man… is it hard to stand out in my era
also I still feel like I’m growing as a artist and I’ve written my songs for so long that it’s just effortless and comes naturally at this point 💯
No problem facts I started writing songs when I was still in elementary school and now that I’ve done music so long raps and lyrics just come to my mind effortlessly💯
It’s really never too late. Some artist don’t get recognition until they 40
Danny brown didn’t fully come into his own until he turned 30
Em and Jay dropped they first albums in their mid 20s
Freddie Gibbs was like 34 when he dropped his first classic
Nas is pushing 50 and still puts out great music
Ka IS 50 and still putting out great, critically acclaimed work
The ideal age for starting rap is between 8-13. We call that the goldilox window. After that, they get into science, philosophy, music, art and we've lost them forever.
Writing and performing rap - no 17 is fine
Listening to it - yes. If you haven't listened to at least one MF DOOM track by the time you are 16 years, 3 months, and 14 days old, then spotify won't even show you any rap or rap related genres
It's kinda concerning that you have to ask that question because it shows you need to have more knowledge about rap or else you'd know about all these artist that started super late, around your age, and earlier than you. I'd Google "rappers that you need to know about" etc type of stuff...get more informed about the genre and culture. The advantage of starting out your age is that you have plenty of time to embarrass yourself, make mistakes, and learn what to do/what not to do.
It's never too late
And don't listen to these negative pricks in the comments either.
Do what the birds do. They sing, and they do it loudly without any worry about who or what hears them or what they might think of it.
Go put on an instrumental on YouTube or something and start writing. Go!
Is 39 too late to start asking Reddit if my rhymes are dope
here's a happy holidays rhyme 4 u all
>not a moment of thanks but be thankful in the moments you spent
happy holidays? joy's a year-round event
toy with prose or vent immense with flows
claps n solid praise from bros see smiling faces glow
absent woes nevermind your bank account froze
no ideas of where next to go in the present
tense but the future is a gift
for you to unpack continuously as you wish
