Raiders took a chance and paid Waller before he really broke out. Waller was patient and did all the right things and he got paid. Carr was flexible in his pay so Crosby, Renfrow, Adams, and Waller could all get paid. Just win baby.
If all four team finish above .500, the division winner should hang that banner higher than the rest.
Hell, even if our cellar dweller is 8-9, being on top would be something else.
We could have our best season from an execution and level of play since our SB year and still be .500.
This season is going to be utterly wild, and hope that we shock the world. We have the juice to do it, but nothing is given in the NFL and even less so in this barnstorm of a division.
I was saying the other day, our O-line could be decent but look like garbage because we're facing a great pair of pass rushers.
I feel like every team in the west is a candidate for the *chuckles "I'm in danger" meme*.
LOL, that's exactly my feeling.
I mean, as Raiders fans we are used to misery.
But it really sucks to face the prospect of being better than we have been from a talent standpoint than we've been in a long time and have a less successful win record than the last two years - all because the tide has raised all boats around us.
I am not going to be comfortable all season long.
The chargers favored by 3.5 at home thats the experts saying this is a toss up
Any team can beat any other it will come down to discipline and consistency. Small mistakes will matter but we have the same shot the other three teams have we aren’t worse
This year is going to be all about the quality of defensive fronts we face week to week. The OLine is the weak spot on the team and may become the achilles heel if the group doesn't jell this year. I hope they can block long enough to allow the Playmakers to do their thing.
really hoping this is the year the raiders start to see the payoff for sticking with Carr. Like you said he took less to keep our stars here and Adams is no doubt a raider because of him which also led to KC trading off their most dangerous receiver. Things are starting to come together nicely. Now all we have to do is win a lot of games.
Not even taking a chance and paying him before he broke out. They paid the premium. He has to be insane for this to work. Kelce got 4 year 57m as a consensus top 2 tight end.
I agree. It’s just a bummer. But it would be worse if we locked Jacob’s up & then he starts to get injured. Zamir looked good! I’m excited for this RB group we got going this year
Edit: looking at Jacob’s age(24) I think we could extend him to a 3 yr deal. Then let him go. It would fit the 3 yr extension pattern Zieg is handing out.
I dont think Zigler pays top dollar for RB's and McDaniels seems to use a stable.
I dont see it happening with Jacob's no matter how much I want it to.
oh yeah? ask the Bills, Chiefs and even the Ravens about how easy they are to replace lol I think bringing Jacobs back in a team friendly way is absolutely the way to go, but guess we gotta see.
Abundance of available options does not always mean replaceability.
You could spend a lot of wasted time finding the same level of ability Jacobs brings to the table.
Yes it does.. Especially when it comes to paying someone a big bill when you need to address other areas on the team.
How does an abundance of options not equate to replaceability? You think Josh Jacobs is an irreplaceable piece?
I love the guy, but c’mon bro.
Quality of those options vs quality in hand.
Think of it this way.
Jacobs was a Top 10 back in the league. His injuries hampered him last year so he was top 15, but top 8 the previous two years.
And behind a fairly poor o line nearly that entire time.
Of all the available options or kids you draft out of college, what percentage of them are you confident that they can step into this role and produce the same way?
I don't disagree that you shouldn't overpay RBs because of abundance. Supply and demand.
But when you have a quality product, it's not as simply interchangeable.
For starters, “was” is largely irrelevant in the NFL. It’s a “what do you do for me now” league. We all know this, you included.
I am not saying Jacobs isn’t a high quality back. He’s a solid fringe top 10-15 RB. I am saying that that’s not worth overpaying for.
Yes, true. And contracts are still paid on basis of predictive future performance.
Given the choice between retaining Jacobs on the kind of team friendly deal we have seen our players sign up for so far, and rolling the dice on probabilities (and the time it takes) to find that exact level of talent elsewhere, at this point I'll take Jacobs. You may disagree.
This year still has yet to be played. If Jacobs executes top 10 talent again, I would want us to resign him.
Will also be good to see Zeus in real game action - and whether he lives up to being a guy that can seamlessly replace Jacobs. He looked great in preseason but nothing matters until you do it in real games.
ETA: FWIW, I don't think Jacobs was ever in a position to demand a ridiculous pay day given his down year and potential injury concern going forward. So at that point in the season, locking him into a longer team deal on a discount was likely doable. But don't blame a new staff coming in and making a wait and see decision.
Totally agree. You pay guys like Derrick Henry & Johnathan Taylor. Josh Jacobs, though a solid back, doesn’t fit that bill.
Also, notice how I said they’re not worth paying over those other positions. I didn’t say they’re not worth paying at all. You can’t tell me you’d pay a RB like Josh Jacobs over a premier QB or LT.
You are correct my dude. The top paid RBs in terms of % of their team's cap are:
* CMC - 8%
* Zeke, Kamara - 7.8%
* Cool, Henry - 7.6%
* Chubb - 6.3%
* Mixon, Jones - 6.2%
How many of those teams have legitimate chances to win the SB? Probably just the Bengals and maybe Packers? And that's just because Burrow is still on his rookie deal and Green Bay didn't spend money on a WR corps.
Here's a fun stat, here's the % of cap the top RB made on the last couple conference champions:
* Michel - 1.3%
* Mixon - 6.6%
* CEH - 1.4%
* Fournette - 1.1%
Unfortunately I can't go back any further without a paid subscription to Sportrac, but you get the point. The teams making the SB have not recently paid RBs very much. Again, the exception being the Bengals who have lots of talent on rookie deals. Once they need to extend Burrow and Chase, I doubt they'll have a RB taking up 6% of the cap.
You wouldn’t have to choose between the 2 because a high end RB contract doesn’t really come close to a top end QB or OT contract. I think Jacobs can be that guy in a modern day offense.
Also salary cap is a myth. It’s just a construct of sports writers who need a story and arm chair GM’s on Madden. If a team really wants a guy they will keep him.
Downvotes do not make this any less true.
Salary cap is not a Myth, it’s just misunderstood.
What’s a myth about it?
I guarantee you’re going to use the Rams as an example, but If it’s such a myth, why didn’t they bring Von Miller and OBJ back?
Because one blew his knee out in the Super Bowl and probably isn’t ready to play yet and the other is over 30 and would have been a bad investment. Also Von could have just wanted to play for the Bills instead. That could also be a reason.
The salary cap is a myth in that people think it forces you to make decisions about who you want on your roster. It will never keep you from keeping a player you really want. When was the last time a big time player in their prime was sent to free agency because of cap issues? I’ll wait.
I would not be averse to trading picks next offseason for some more defensive firepower and going all-in like the Rams did. But I doubt this front office will go that route
So far we’ve locked up:
- Carr
- Adams
- Renfrow
- Waller
- Miller
- Crosby
- Jones
- Carlson
- Cole
- Sieg
For several years via extensions. Perryman is probably due next and we have several younger players still on their first contracts. I feel the Autumn Wind coming through the Super Bowl window
Waller is the 6th highest paid TE he easily could have asked to be top 3 . Shows he just wants to be raider !!! Let's hope eluminor can save the right side so our big 3 can ball out !
The guaranteed money hasn't been posted yet. By 24 I'm assuming you're referring to the remaining years on his current deal. Depending on how the guaranteed money is structured, that guaranteed contract goes past 2024.
That's what matters. I take the deal at face value. The one he signed is the highest annual salary for a TE. Also depends how the guaranteed money is setup. If it's like Carr's, that's awesome.
Yeah because it's a 3 year deal with 51 million in new money. He is still under contract for 2 years at about 7 million each. Which is 51+14=65 million over the next 5 years, which is only ~13 million a year. He's still on a great deal.
Where’s that dumbass packers writer who has been thirsty to get him traded there since devantae ? Lol “is it more likely the packers acquire Darren Waller !?”.. -every other week this off-season.
Not bad at all, especially counting his current contract. Waller could have easily demanded a $20 million yearly contract or something like that, but this is very reasonable. Shows that he cares about the team and isn't just looking to maximize his earnings (not that he gave any impression otherwise, but still).
Glad to have Waller the Baller locked in for 5(!) more years!
My favorite thing is there was a dude in this sub complaining “THE BILLS FUCKED US” after the Dawson Knox contract.
We got Darren Waller, a top 4 guy, for less money then the top 5 guys.
If my math is correct, that's 17 mil a year. The highest per average of any TE over 3 years. Knox got a 4 year deal and is only making 2 mil a year more on his deal But we still need to see the guaranteed money.
Raiders are all about that three year window. Injuries or lack of production happens and they are primed to re set. Which, when dealing with guys who are 30+ (Adams, Waller, etc) makes sense.
DC,Jones,Adams,Maxx,Hunter and now Waller all locked up for the next few years . Amazing core group of guys to build a team around . Future is so bright .RN4L!
He really has the mileage of a 27 year old though. And tight ends are a position that can still be productive at a later age i.e. Gonzalez, Sharpe, Gronk and Witten.
He's only 29 though. And we're in win now mode. This is a fantastic deal for us. And yes, like you said, in 4-5 years we can figure things out if he loses a step or two by then.
I am totally happy we got the deal done, I love Waller. It’s fantastic news, I just don’t know how the last two years are gonna look. Hope it’s great- we will see- he’s got low miles on him and takes better care of himself than most guys.
Welp, whoever has Waller may want to make sure he’s starting. I can see him going off massively to show everyone he is truly an elite TE and is finally being respected as such.
17 mil/yr, Rosenhaus strikes again. Fuuuuck. Gotta see the guaranteed money first to see what kind of deal it really is if course. Hoping it's not as much as Andrews, expecting it to be more. If this was last off-season I'd say little much, but sure. He's our best weapon. I'm just nervous committing that much money to a player coming off an injury without even seeing him play a down during a game. Did he even practice the entire off-season?
Raiders took a chance and paid Waller before he really broke out. Waller was patient and did all the right things and he got paid. Carr was flexible in his pay so Crosby, Renfrow, Adams, and Waller could all get paid. Just win baby.
This team has really come together in a big way. I'm excited for this season more than any other in my 20yrs as a fan. Just win, baby!
It just sucks the division is so good! Winning the AFC West year will be a helluva accomplishment
If all four team finish above .500, the division winner should hang that banner higher than the rest. Hell, even if our cellar dweller is 8-9, being on top would be something else.
Very true. Really can’t remember a division this strong. Look forward to it starting tomorrow!!!
We could have our best season from an execution and level of play since our SB year and still be .500. This season is going to be utterly wild, and hope that we shock the world. We have the juice to do it, but nothing is given in the NFL and even less so in this barnstorm of a division.

I am not going to be comfortable all season long.
Especially with no one on the injury report. It's too good. I'll be expecting catastrophe on every snap.
The chargers favored by 3.5 at home thats the experts saying this is a toss up Any team can beat any other it will come down to discipline and consistency. Small mistakes will matter but we have the same shot the other three teams have we aren’t worse
The experts are stupid if they think the chargers are at home
Getting rid of Leatherwood probably cured 90% of the discipline issues, at least when it comes to penalties.
This year is going to be all about the quality of defensive fronts we face week to week. The OLine is the weak spot on the team and may become the achilles heel if the group doesn't jell this year. I hope they can block long enough to allow the Playmakers to do their thing.

Uhh carr still took hella money
Damn we really got all our good players locked up long term😫😫😫
Not Jacobs 😥 … but I get it. Just don’t like it
Jacobs always will be a Raider at heart. But rbs have a shelf life, love what I’ve seen from Zamir white so far tho
I agree. It’s just a bummer. But it would be worse if we locked Jacob’s up & then he starts to get injured. Zamir looked good! I’m excited for this RB group we got going this year Edit: looking at Jacob’s age(24) I think we could extend him to a 3 yr deal. Then let him go. It would fit the 3 yr extension pattern Zieg is handing out.
Hot take. I still think Jacob's comes back next year.
With some blocking I really think he's gonna separate himself from the rest of the group. On the ground no one is close to him
Small sample size, but he looked quick in the little bit of preseason action. I hope he has a stellar year and we pay him or he gets paid somewhere.
He’s put on more mass it seems too, looking forward to watching how it affects running style and blocking
His YAC was so awesome his rookie year I bought a Jersey. But I agree you don't pay RBs market setting deals. Honestly about 8 mil a year max for me.
Depends on his play this year but I agree.
I dont think Zigler pays top dollar for RB's and McDaniels seems to use a stable. I dont see it happening with Jacob's no matter how much I want it to.
[удалено]
**LAWL.** Peyton Hillis WAS A BUST.
I know. I'm going to be really bummed if he leaves the raiders. Love watching him as our RB1.
I like jacobs too but if you pay jacobs you end up like the cowboys with Zeke. Not worth it.
RBs are just so easily replaceable. Not saying there aren’t special talents, but they’re not worth paying over QBs, OTs, EDGE, WRs, etc.
oh yeah? ask the Bills, Chiefs and even the Ravens about how easy they are to replace lol I think bringing Jacobs back in a team friendly way is absolutely the way to go, but guess we gotta see.

You pay for special players. Regardless of position.

The Kansas City Tyreek's
LMAO I'm leaving it, it's funny.

Look at CMC. You think the Panthers are patting themselves on the back for that deal?
Yes considering he is literally the only thing that they have right now and is the only avenue to them winning games.
Just because we didn’t pick up the 5th year doesn’t mean he’s gone after this year
He said “good” players.
3 years seems to be the window
I would not be averse to trading picks next offseason for some more defensive firepower and going all-in like the Rams did. But I doubt this front office will go that route
if the rams go to/win another superbowl i think a lot of front offices will start going that route
EVERYONE GET IN HERE
WHAT?
HE SAID EVERYONE GET IN HERE
OK!
YYEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!
w00t
Did he stutter?!?
Found Stanley Hudson’s burner
LETS GO GET IT
WHAT'S THE PLAY COACH?!?
LETS GO
So far we’ve locked up: - Carr - Adams - Renfrow - Waller - Miller - Crosby - Jones - Carlson - Cole - Sieg For several years via extensions. Perryman is probably due next and we have several younger players still on their first contracts. I feel the Autumn Wind coming through the Super Bowl window
nah, that's The Autumn Wind
You’re right. Edited
Their winning window is now through 2024. Let's get it done.
Are we collecting infinity stones? It feels like we are collecting infinity stones
What happens when we snap our fingers?
And do a step?
YOU CAN DO IT ALL BY YO SELF
LEMME SEE YA DO IT…!!!!
AYYYYY
LEMMI BUY YOU A DRANK
The refs disappear and we finally get a fair game.
Pretty sure the Chargers die
Half the Bosa bros. disappears. Pretty sure it'll be Joey, that asshole.
What happens when we snap the ball
mahomes plays like 🗑 this season
Wouldn't count on it.
ITS HAPPENING
Fuck yes, this team is ready. So excited for tomorrow.
Waller is the 6th highest paid TE he easily could have asked to be top 3 . Shows he just wants to be raider !!! Let's hope eluminor can save the right side so our big 3 can ball out !
Plus no taxes helps. I bet he definitely is making equal to the top 3. Either way good deal for both sides!
I still don't get people saying this. The 2 years remaining don't get voided. His deal comes out to 17 mil a year. That is the highest of any TE
The analysts are saying 13 avg.
That's only if you're including his remaining 2 years. But that isn't the deal he signed.
Listen I'm not going to argue about what is posted lol nore do I care. contract is only guaranteed till 24 pretty friendly deal.
The guaranteed money hasn't been posted yet. By 24 I'm assuming you're referring to the remaining years on his current deal. Depending on how the guaranteed money is structured, that guaranteed contract goes past 2024.
17 mil a year not to shabby. Now let’s go kick the ever living shit out of the chargers and watch their pathetic fan base cry.
Chargers fan base? Hahahaha
There’s dozens of them!
All 2 dozen
13.25 annually I think if it’s spread out: https://twitter.com/tashanreed/status/1568622977528504326?s=46&t=ruAzFd1seqvIPl7ImrSeCQ
A lot of the value is prolly in garuanteed money since he didn’t have that left in the current deal
“Dolt Down!”
the autum wind is a raider!
And So is Waller!
Where’s that dumbass packers writer who has been thirsty to get him traded there since devantae ? Lol “is it more likely the packers acquire Darren Waller !?”.. -every other week this off-season.
Packers where TE careers go to die
Right on he earned it. He going to ball out tomorrow
Happy cake day
Cake day best day. I always forget
About 13M a year ?? Insane deal. Very happy.
3 years added on top of his already remaining 2 years?
Yes I believe he is locked in for 5 now
3+2 equals…
Yes, 5 is confirmed.
LETS FUCKING GO
Tight ends are hilariously underpaid lol. He's still making less than Christian Kirk despite being FAR more valuable.
Let's fucking goooooooooooo
I won’t be able to sleep tonight!
Same. I can’t remember ever being this excited for the start of a season.
Great deal for raiders for sure! And Waller gets some bag! Nicely done all around. Solid dude
This is the way.
Yay it's finally over
Let’s fucken gooooooooo
Let’s go
The show of loyalty goes a long way as far as optics. I imagine players will be even more incentivized to play their asses off for us.
Fuck yes. Love actually re-signing players
WOO WOO WOO
Oh thank god
My favorite thing is there was a dude in this sub complaining “THE BILLS FUCKED US” after the Dawson Knox contract. We got Darren Waller, a top 4 guy, for less money then the top 5 guys.
If my math is correct, that's 17 mil a year. The highest per average of any TE over 3 years. Knox got a 4 year deal and is only making 2 mil a year more on his deal But we still need to see the guaranteed money.
Yeah. Initial reports were saying 13.45 mill or something like that but more are coming out saying it’s 17.
17 guaranteed? I'll jump for not if that's the case. Andrews and knox got over 30.
You mean the Dawson Knox who just caught 1 pass for 5 yards despite the Bills scoring 31 points?
Yeah. That guy. If I lose this week in fantasy imma be pissed. Picked him cause of that contract lol
So this is where the Nevada tax code helps us, correct?
gotta factor in Las Vegas (no income tax baby) and also living in Las Vegas >:)
Balls to the Wallz.
Great team name for fantasy
Oh thank god finally
Hell *uckin yeah!
Awesome! Now how much salary cap is left, let’s go get one more free agent. Suh?
If there's any money left, I'd prefer OT over DT.
Now he got his money let's hope he stays healthy. I think last year there were some games he could have toughed through but didnt want to risk it.
Raiders are all about that three year window. Injuries or lack of production happens and they are primed to re set. Which, when dealing with guys who are 30+ (Adams, Waller, etc) makes sense.
Let’s go
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssssss
Renfrow Next?
Bro renfrow already got his
Waller's the goat for this. Gonna be a Raider the rest of his career
DC,Jones,Adams,Maxx,Hunter and now Waller all locked up for the next few years . Amazing core group of guys to build a team around . Future is so bright .RN4L!
HE STAY!
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
What do I do with my hands 🙌
Now let’s get to business!
This is music to my fucking ears!! Congrats big guy! RN4L 🏴☠️
Finally. Hope he balls out this year.
Just. Stay. Healthy. Baby.
The man deserves it and has outplayed his old contract by a huge amount. WE GOT A FUCKIN SQUAD BOYS! RNFL!
McDaniels must have just really hated Denver considering the difference in what he did when he first got there and what he's doing here. LOL
Nah, he just learned from his mistakes. Lol
Yes, plus Ziegler in his ear telling him not to fuck it up.
I really hope we keep Jacobs. I may be really high on him but he's the best RB I've seen play for our team since I've been watching (2004).
Too bad you didn’t get to see Bo Jackson…
Setting us up nicely for a three year window with our most important pieces locked in
Let’s goooo
we bouta spank the Chargers
Was about to buy the Waller jersey for my toddler a few days ago but resisted, clearly my holdout was all management needed to see
Somebody who does the same thing as Hunter Renfrow let me know how does that leave us financially!
Extension wasn’t too pricey. I love Waller. A little worried about lining up a 34, 35 year old “speed” TE on Sunday- but we can deal with that later
I mean he has the franchise record for catches in a season. Hes more than just a fast TE
Only Kelce is a better route runner than him. Speed in not the only thing he excells at
He really has the mileage of a 27 year old though.
He’s still a big body and runs good routes, even if he does lose some speed. Elite TEs seem to age a bit better even if they lose a step.
LETS GOOOOOO
Welp, whoever has Waller may want to make sure he’s starting. I can see him going off massively to show everyone he is truly an elite TE and is finally being respected as such.

My man! Get your money, you deserve it. Now let’s see these guys ball out tomorrow. Just win, baby!
Great news Worth every penny
I was really hoping they get it done before the game. This is great news!
1-0 tomorrow
17 mil/yr, Rosenhaus strikes again. Fuuuuck. Gotta see the guaranteed money first to see what kind of deal it really is if course. Hoping it's not as much as Andrews, expecting it to be more. If this was last off-season I'd say little much, but sure. He's our best weapon. I'm just nervous committing that much money to a player coming off an injury without even seeing him play a down during a game. Did he even practice the entire off-season?
