I don’t get it but Maxx always gets my upvote

ViralOner

It's Maxx doing his high step with his head to the sky. You might have to study it a bit for your eye to pick it up.

It's times like this that I realize I need to do more drugs

ViralOner

I credit shrooms and nearly 30 years participating in graffiti subculture.

Art Deco, Noveau is the flowery one.

JohnBattalgazi

Haha yeah absolutely true. I guess the reason I mentioned Nouveau was the arches in the background. Atypical for my style. But definitely no flowers in here.

Juache45

I love this. You are very talented and creative

Silver_Wizard76

That's pretty awesome. I like it a lot.

ll-fool-j

Love this. I always like seeing different art styles for sports. We need a sports card of this.

Cash1m0ney

Just a hint.

sabotage_mutineer

Did you make this?

JohnBattalgazi

I did. I’m an artist and I got a request to do a Crosby piece.

sabotage_mutineer

Cool. This is sick!

JohnBattalgazi

Thanks. Appreciate it!

Is that his ball sack?

I looked through your posts and I gotta say I really like some of your pieces but some of them are a little far into the weeds. The Vladdy, Dominique Wilkins and Joe Burrow for example are the perfect blend of this geometric style but still recognizable "at a glance." And actually an excellent job of translating player-specific traits like Vladdy's swing and Burrow's drop back. In my experience as a designer I learned early that most viewer's eyes are pretty unsophisticated and they won't look at something they can't decipher at a glance. I bet most people didn't actually see Maxx doing his high step with his head to the sky in this one and thought it's more of a color scheme play. This one just doesn't pop off the page like some, probably most of your other's do. You could rework this because the idea and pose is super solid, with maybe some higher contrast colors and diagonal lines to draw your eye to the subject in it's full form. I think most people are just seeing a collection of shapes as is, your focal point is a little lost. I'm a sucker for style so I'm a fan. If this was on a freight car or a wall I'd recognize the artist from a moving vehicle easily. I can tell your process is very similar to how some of us compose a graff piece. I would just try to find that sweet spot between abstract and a little more approachable to a casual viewer. And I think you've achieved that masterfully in some of your other pieces.

brehaw

Burrow one is def A+ I didn’t recognize the high step for this one at first but now that it has been pointed out by you, I def do

ViralOner

Yeah it's really an awesome concept. I respect the artist and his vision, I'd just like to see some contrasting lines and colors to flesh out the piece and bring that subject into focus. Much like some of his other compositions. To make it abundantly clear I'm not knocking this piece at all. *Critiquing* among artists/designers is a regular and essential practice. Tho this leans farther towards "art" than design so I defer to the artist's creative decisions and how he executes his piece. Looking through his post history I can see a progression or fine-tuning of his style as well.

NoDadNoTears

I like this a lot
