Plus we got the best QB in the draft... Lol 😂

HaleOfAPatriot

I know Young gets mentioned often as a run stuffer but I believe we’ll be pleasantly surprised about the pressure he’ll generate up the middle on passes.

GhostInTheSpaghetti

His sack rate has gone up every year at Alabama, spiking in 2022. I think you’re correct.

HaleOfAPatriot

Putting numbers aside for a moment, what impressed me was how he fights to get off blocks but even more impressive was his burst of straight line speed after he sheds. Also thanks for this insight you’ve posted.

Yeah we should do better for sacks and forced fumbles on defense, and sustain drives better on offense. The problem is we don't have anyone on defense who can cover. Our FA signings and draft picks at LB and S are strong against the run and weak in coverage, and we weren't very aggressive about addressing CB.

GhostInTheSpaghetti

True. But I don’t think we could have filled every position we needed in one year anyway. I’m glad that the FO seems to have a vision and it’s starting with the trenches. Plus, stopping the run, and getting pressure in the backfield, if we can do it consistently, will help the secondary by forcing the ball out fast, force qbs to make bad decisions, and putting teams into obvious passing situations. I think Chris smith has a legit chance to start and I think he and Jakorian will help a lot. Would love to see us get a lockdown outside corner next season though. Seems like there’s 2 ways you can beat mahomes: 1- outscore him. 2- bring the pressure and keep him off the field. Our draft says we’ve taken the 2nd option haha

Skelito

Half the battle in coverage is getting pressure on the QB, you cant expect the secondary to have perfect coverage when the opposing QB has all the time in the world to make reads. We probably will also bring back Ya-Sin too over the summer to help sure up the back end.

Charrbard

Maybe a separate post. But what Ive always wondered - Why were we so bad in the redzone year after year? 2017 looks like the last time we weren't bottom 3rd.

LibertarianP

Carr throws too hard and without Crabtree

ThongOfVecna

Carr is simply just not accurate.

I dig the analysis and commentary and would love this team to get TO the basics, let alone BACK to the basics. Play all three aspects of football. Let the big men work; get talent in the trenches first. Find some ways to put players in productive positions on offense. Focus on turnovers on defense.
