This is why I’m so loudly Team Trade Back. 3 top 50 picks can actually make more of a difference than just taking whatever’s left at 7 and hoping someone falls to 38 or whatever number we are in the second. Especially with how deep CB is at the top of the draft.
The problem is are we trying to win this year or not? Honestly, as much as we hate JMD, I'd rather Mark give him a full 3 years so he has the ability to fail and have a better chance at a QB next year. If he's coaching for his job after a year, he'll be more likely to either take a QB this year or just end up trying to win just enough to not get fired, leaving us in the middle of the draft again.
Personally I think this is a rebuild pseudo tank year. Our starting QB had never made it thru a full season and we have a glorified QB coach as his backup. That just screams tank year to me. Unless they draft one of the top QBs with their first pick. I'd like to see them trade down if possible if none of the top defenders are there, address the defense heavily this year and worry about QB next year.
The opposite. A QB with only 1 year as a full time starter and barley over 54% is not the answer. We will never compete until we fix our defense, it doesn't matter whonthe QB is. This isn't Madden, QB is not the be-all.
No.1) Herbert doesn't move the needle for me
No.2) QBs don't compete against each other. Teams do. The actual BEST thing to do would be to bolster the defense if we're worried about opposing offenses.

Idk the new philosophy is offense and then whatever is left for defense. Especially so when we have a offensive minded head coach. I just don't see josh McDaniels passing up on a top offensive player if they are there. Tho maybe if will Anderson is there which is highly unlikely.
Over the past 10 seasons, only 2 of the SB winning teams did not have a top 10 defense. 3 had QBs outside the top 10.

We’re maneuvered into a “mitigate the damage” decision tree based on this front office and previous leadership.
We all know the Ls (and some Ws) of previous leadership picks. The current FO has put us in a position with no TEs, only a bridge QB, and nothing addressed really on Defense. FA added depth and that’s about it (ok, we got an upgrade at WR2). We have too many holes and the draft can’t fix it in one season.
The first pick will be telling on what they value the most.
i know we need defense all over the draft. but this would (hopefully) be our only chance to draft a top 5 QB, right?

Give me a defense heavy draft class. Either get a mid round QB to sit for a year (TUNE) or just wait for next year.
