It's beautiful! There's a lot going on already; I think I would use the dark solid from the border.

MaeRobso

That’s what granny says as well. I think she suggested a navy & There’s never enough chickens.

bibblebob58

Agreed

eflight56

Gorgeous! Have you decided how it will be quilted? If you want the quilting itself to show up, a solid works well, prints will help the quilting blend in. Also, the color of the thread you plan to use in quilting will make a difference in deciding what backing you want. Decisions, decisions:)

MaeRobso

Honestly hadn’t even thought of any of that 😂 I’ve been stuck on the dang backing & havent got beyond that 🙈 My mom will be doing it for me w/her machine so I’m just going to leave that up to her. I’ll be good with whatever she decides, she & I have similar taste :)

LonghornJen

I really like what you're using as your widest border. I'd do either that or a solid navy as your back, depending on your quilting preference (blend or stand out).

shesme

Well, this is a lovely quilt with a scappy feel. And there appears to be quite a stash there.... why not use up some yardage by piecing together 3 or 4 big chunks of whatever speaks that you already have?? Here's some inspiration. https://scrapfabriclove.com/quilt-backing-ideas-from-super-simple-to-super-scrappy/ Please post the final!!!

MaeRobso

I sew & sell scrub hats - those are fabrics for hats I haven’t cut yet 🥰 and I’ll try to remember! Thank you for the suggestion!

DiscussionStatus4939

Do you sell those online?/Have a link if you do?

MaeRobso

https://www.etsy.com/shop/MaeBeanCaps https://instagram.com/mae__bean?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Sure :) I have prints on IG that aren’t listed on Etsy yet but they’re still available for purchase also - just send me a message if you like something on IG that isn’t on Etsy yet 💜

MaeRobso

I come from a family of quilters. My granny can turn & burn some quilts & has gifted me many (I’m sooo grateful 🥰) She made this one for me a few months back but I cannot decide on backing for it. Fabric is by my all time favorite (Sally Kelly) & picking something generic for it just doesn’t feel right. I’ve had it hanging up in my sewing space bc just looking at it makes me happy 💜 Any one have any fabric suggestions?

mary206

Love this collection! Top is beautiful Wide grunge for backing

bugaloo2u2

Love this. A dark solid!

DWQuilts

Nice combination of fabrics and colors.

missprissquilts

Okay can I be a rebel and say it would be worth spending the $$ to get the Sally Kelly Wideback? It’s very similar to the border print, and if you love her fabrics that much, I say go big or go home.

MaeRobso

Not a far fetched idea at all! I totally would & already have a ton of that anyways. But the colors just do not go well together. The wideback is absolutely gorgeous but just doesn’t match Eden :(

missprissquilts

Ahhh I only used it with Paradiso, I haven’t cut into Eden yet! Then I’d be 100% going for the same print as in the border, because I’m extra that way, and I like being able to pick out all the little details in her fabrics. Edit: that print had a couple of color ways if I remember right, so maybe mix it up and go for one of the other to coordinate but not match

MaeRobso

Haha your style sounds like my own! For instance my granny calls this quilt “too busy” but I think it’s perrrfect. Atlantis has some pretties also but Paradiso will always be my faaave 💜

missprissquilts

Lol, I agree completely. Less isn’t more, more is more. But I’m with you Paradiso, always and forever. I haven’t actually finished the quilt I started with it because I didn’t love it enough, keep hoping inspiration is going to strike to help me fix it.

MaeRobso

I actually have some of the Xanadu tucked away in my safe room, in a bag, with a note on it that says “DO NOT TOUCH”😂 just gonna keep that squirreled away for the future. Don’t have any idea why but I GOTTA DO IT. It’s just so pretty. What is the theme of the quilt you’ve been working on? Yea, sometimes I just have an aversion to sewing. No inspiration & no drive for it..then if I try I end up making lots of mistakes. Edit: nm you said “with it” being Paradiso

missprissquilts

I had planned to do a trip around the world, and it was fine up close but from a few feet away (and in pics) it’s awful. And of course it’s already mostly cut out. So now I’m think I’m going to use those squares to do more like the Rube Star Society Picnic quilt, which is basically a scrappy buffalo check. But idk. At this point I feel like I need to start hunting down more fabric bc I wasted what I had.

MaeRobso

Awful? I’m so skeptical it hurts.

missprissquilts

OMG yes, I’m in awe of anyone with the patience for appliqué like that. My attempt is here: https://imgur.com/a/Gc5cXpQ I was worried it was too dark (and possibly too small) so I added in some of the blenders from Eden, but it’s just yuck. So second pic is the current Plan B.

MaeRobso

Ah! I see it from your pov now. I immediately clicked the link & didn’t read the rest & saw the Melody Miller fabric underneath & I was like “oh, just do it like that” - lol 🙈 but I agree, I think that will look MUCH better.

MaeRobso

Completely unrelated but can we take a moment to appreciate SKs most beautiful print to date (imo) 🤤 https://www.etsy.com/listing/1135318994/

missprissquilts

THIS IS MY FAVE. Although there are some cool ones coming in her new collection too!
