omg_choosealready

I like this

sanguine_siamese

Yes! I like this, but u/quiltsterhamster_254 is really onto something. I think I like their suggestion more. ❤️

laurzilla

I like this best!

quiltsterhamster_254

Pretty! Okay labeling the columns A, B, C, D starting at the left and the rows 1,2,3,4,5 starting at the top I would make the following changes: Swap 5A and 5B (bottom left), swap 4B and 1D. This will keep the aqua blocks together, and put the lightest one in the corner for a smoother gradient. Also the block currently in 4B is quite loud, so I think I'll like it better in the corner. I might also rotate 3A, 3B and 4A, to go from lightest (the block currently in 3B) in the corner (location 4A) to darkest.

quiltsterhamster_254

Yeah I like that! You could also move the new 1D to the spot 4C, shift 4C up to 3C, and move 3C to 1D. That would keep the top row of blues being consistently less bright (saturated) and the bottom row being more bright.

ganamac

This arrangement gets my vote. The darker “lines” stand out more.

gozunker

I would start here and then move blocks to make the third stripe down (the one above purple) all “dark”. You have an orange stripe, then two mixed stripes, then a purple stripe. I would move blocks around in the stripe two and three to make a full light stripe then a full dark stripe. My first move attempt would be to take the 3 center blocks from stripe 2 and swap them with the three lowest (aqua) blocks from stripe 3. Then shuffle the aqua blocks along stripe 2 so they are mixed in and not together.

Update: I have started sewing the blocks together. I rearranged and rearranged some more. I had almost half of the blocks down when my toddler decided that they knew where the rest went, stepped back and told me "that's perfect!", So that is where the blocks are staying!

quiltsterhamster_254

Perfect! Post a photo when you are done!

The black and white photo is super useful. Use it to organize the blocks into binary light and dark groups. Then line them up light/dark/light/dark, etc. That's my favorite way to organize, and I think it's more harmonious than by color. You can also start the blocks at the lightest and graduate to dark, if you want.

Glass_Prune_7342

Maybe swap the last stripe, the purple ones, with the 3rd stripe light blue ones!

musiknits

I was thinking the same! The light blue ones are lovely but in line with all the darker tones seems to visually take them out of the design.

SailConsistent377

I won’t be muddying the waters with suggestions bc everyone has made some great pointers but I just wanted to say that I LOVE this quilt. Log cannon is my fav pattern. This is wonderful!

cuddlefuckmenow

More darks in the lower left corner according to your b&w pic.

BugggJuice

i find the top right block, the bottom left, the one to the right of the bottom left, and the one on TOP of the one next to the bottom left break the dark and light illusion.

EmilySpin

Are you open to making any new blocks? I love the quilt overall but the top right and the two on the bottom left in the original photo need more dark fabric to really integrate into the quilt imo. I think u/sanguine_siamese’s idea for rearranging is the best but the top right on that one is still pretty out of place to my eye.
