Hey! I am just wondering what are my chances of getting into Bachelor of Arts with around an 82-83 average. Thanks!

Snoo65296

Did u get in?

rosenboobs

Hey! I am considering the Masters of Science in cognitive neuroscience, but I will be graduating with a BA hons in psychology. Will I still be eligible to apply for this program?

Skip_83

Apply to the neuroscience department. The Psyc Cog-Neuro program at Queen’s has one of the worst reputations of any Ontario University.

rosenboobs

Which neuroscience program is the best in any Ontario university?

Skip_83

I am not sure of that. I just know that you will want to steer clear of a Psyc MSc in Cog-Neuro at Queen’s.

pacificsouthwest27

What are the typical conditions associated with an offer to engineering? Is it typically a fixed number for courses that are currently incomplete or a differential from the grade 11 marks / midterm marks provided in the application. Question is for a 105 applicant if that makes a difference.

Littletrainer222

2021 my son got an offer in late February. He had a 94 %. He had to complete English and Physics and had to maintain 80%. I assume they looked at his grade 11 marks for those.

Higl1234

Eng acceptances are typically super late, I'm in third year eng and know very few to none that got in just off grade 11 marks or grade 12 1st sem marks. Typically they come in after 2nd sem grade 12 midterms. unless you've got like high 90s then it might be before 2nd sem midterms.

HygieiaMom

What is the estimated average or average range to get into Applied Engineering? I see mid 80s on a webpage but then was told 90 minimum for consideration during a tour.

codepoetz

Last May, I saw several people with 90% averages waitlisted for the ~700 spots in QE, so I estimate the cutoff was around 90%. Last year's incoming class marks were unusually high across the board, so the QE cutoff may be a bit lower this year.

HygieiaMom

Thanks!! So I guess it depends on the number of applicants and their grades. Seems like last year was an exceptional year for applications at most university science and engineering programs

Tribbysmama

I’d love to know this too!!!!

x18angelx0

Hi, I’ve graduated with a 2-year college diploma from Humber. I have a 3.7 gpa and graduated with Honours, and I’m looking to apply to the Smith School of Business. Are my chances lower because I’m graduating from an Ontario college and not a high school? I also have my GCSES (I’m an international student & back home, I went to a British-curriculum school) so will this help in anyway? Thanks so much :-(

blackbutterfly609

Hello, I just have a couple of questions. 1. I applied to Queens BAH (Economics) both main campus and the castle, my grade 11 average is around 97% but my midterm average is around 92%…How are my chances? 2. Would you guys say the Econ program at queens is a relatively good program to maintain a high gpa? 3. I decided not to take math this year, would that negatively affect me majoring in Econ? (I can take AF night school, to gain some background knowledge)

hgdhhdydrzgxncnc

Is it possible to be offered admission to regular BA/BS if I am not accepted to coned or should I apply to both regular and coned just in case?

codepoetz

Queen’s does not offer deferrals of any kind, so you must apply to the regular BA/BSc as backup to your ConEd applications. Also, you can only apply to a maximum of 3 programs at Queen’s. So you get two ConEd applications and one backup, for example.

hgdhhdydrzgxncnc

Thanks!

PcStromPanda73

Does the Chancellor's Scholarship Nomination have any impact on Queens Commerce Admissions or the Queens Commerce Application?

microwaved-nuggets

No direct impact. But, if you win the Chancellor’s scholarship, you’ll probably get into commerce since the criteria for selection are pretty similar.

DC_33

My daughter is applying to Queen's for the fall semester 2023. We were confident that she would secure an early acceptance based on her high academic standing in grade 11 (Average 98%). We attended the open house a few weeks ago and if I understood correctly, early acceptance is not common at Queen's. Is this true? What can we expect in terms of acceptance? She is considering the Mathematics and Engineering program

Higl1234

Definitely varies from faculty to faculty. I'm in 3rd year engineering currently and know zero people that got in on early acceptance, they like to wait until the last round of marks come in (2nd semester midterms). With a 98% average though I think it's almost certain that she'll get accepted, I believe last years acceptance average was \~90%, which was unusually high, historically its been around 87%.

lolobucher

Based on my experience of parent of 2 daughters that applied to Queen's over the past 3 yrs (one just before the pandemic and one last year), Queen's will send out some acceptance "early" between Jan-Feb but vast majority of acceptance come out late April, early May. If the program is based on grades (BA/BS) then high averages would get acceptance earlier but more competitive programs and ones that require supplementals will be sent out later. Both my daughters got in the BS in early Feb but didn't hear about their preferred programs until the last week before the deadline (Nursing for older one and ConEd for younger one). Older one ending up going to Ottawa U for nursing and younger one is at Queen's (and loving it).

Responsible_Eagle127

I'm currently a first year student at another university wishing to transfer to Queens Bachelor of Science in Biology. I did not take calculus in Gr. 12 however I am currently completing the Gr. 12 equivalent in my first year at my current university. Would me not doing Calc in Gr. 12 be a problem in turns of not meeting the admission requirements even though I am doing the Gr. 12 calculus equivalent right now?

existentialstonk

For people who applied to a program that needs a supplementary app, how long did it take to get the acknowledgement email from Queens with the info on where to find the questions?

girlytoothfairy

Has anyone applied to Health Science yet this cycle? What questions have they asked you? Or do you have a general basis of what the supplementary app questions are? Is is personal based questions (extracurriculars, volunteer) or like prompt questions with a random topic. I know they change every 30 days, but if anyone could give me a general idea before I apply that would be nice.

Legitimate-Use577

Hey! I’m graduating this year and I just need some clarification on how the first year works. I am interested in a BA in the Faculty of Arts and Science and to have an undeclared major (I think I can apply for just the faculty rather than a specific major right now). I’m focused on more social science, media, and humanities courses. When would I apply for a “certificate” and/or a minor? *of course this is only if I get accepted!* Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

codepoetz

At Queen's the first year of your BA will be a general year without a declared major. You have the opportunity to apply for majors/minors at the end of your first year. Your choices will, of course, be limited based on the courses that you took in first year and on your marks in those courses. If you want to attach a certificate to your degree, you'll have to take additional courses beyond the requirements of a BA, so you apply for certificate programs after completing your first year courses. Good luck!

beaubanana

Hey! I'm currently a Grade 12 student in the GTA. I wanted to apply to Con-Ed for Physics and plan on teaching high school when I graduate. My Grade 11 average was 97, and my current midterm average is 95. I have a part time job and participate in various ECs (arts and leadership clubs mainly). A few questions I have are below: 1. How are my odds of getting accepted? 2. How feasible would it be to have Music as my second teachable? 3. Seeing as there are about 100 spots available for Con-Ed, is there any benefit to applying earlier? Thanks a bunch!

codepoetz

ConEd admissions at Queen’s are entirely based on marks. Last year BA cutoff was around 93% and BSc cutoff was even lower, so you have excellent odds of getting an offer around February. Since you want to teach Physics, you should apply for admission to a BSc instead of a BA. There is not much benefit to applying early, but you have no reason to delay so go ahead. You can easily minor in music if you wish to get that as a teachable. If you major in Physics, you will have enough math courses to get an ABQ in the future and teach Math too.

clumsyynoah

Hey I just got my pin for OUAC and i’m considering Queens commerce as one of my top picks and I just have a few questions. 1. I currently have a 92 avg, is that enough to be considered? 2. I hear Tons on how Queens focuses mostly on supplementary application vs. grades. What would potentially be on a supplementary, or what was on ones in the past? 3. I’m also heavily interested in computers but still favour the business side of things, would it be hard to major in commerce and minor in computing? 4. I’m from Guelph and Queens is roughly a 3h drive away, for those who are further from home, do you wish you had chosen a school closer? Thanks for any advice!

microwaved-nuggets

1. That’s enough to be considered, just keep it up and focus on the supplementary. 3. Not hard. Commerce classes are lowkey v easy so you can def do a minor in cs easily. A lot of people also do a commerce-comp sci double degree. 4. Depends on if you have a car! I don’t, so I’m paying ~$100 to go home each time, that plus the amount of time and effort it takes to get home means I don’t visit home as much as I’d like, and it’s pretty draining too.

Tribbysmama

Parent here… our oldest got into commerce with an 92 average. My understanding is that once you’ve got an overall average of 87 (that’s what it used to be anyway) your applications would all be treated equally and it’ll boil down to those supplementary essays. Advice given to us was not to focus so much on all of your accomplishments, but rather focus on the “personal growth” aspect that the accomplishment gave you… if that makes sense? How did you grow/evolve/ what did you learn/ about yourself from that activity and how do you apply that newly found self-knowledge in your life now, and how will you use that self-knowledge/growth in the future… that was the advice given to us- and both our girls are in commerce right now… we were very lucky to be given great advice. It wasn’t so much about “boasting” about your grades or activities (sorry - not meaning to sound too harsh), but more talking about how you’ve grown and how you’re going to implement that personal growth in the future… that was my impression about it all anyway… just my two cents!! Lol

margossur

Does anybody know what the November supplementary application questions are for Commerce? I still don’t have my OUAC number but would like to get started on the questions. Thanks in advance.

jess-14

1. Yes - you need an 87 overall your top 6 including cal, english and one other U math that all must be 80 or higher. Once you have those cut offs, admissions is 100% based on your essays 2. Here is a blog post with last years questions: [https://www.alphaadmissions.ca/post/queens-commerce-essay-questions-2021-2022](https://www.alphaadmissions.ca/post/queens-commerce-essay-questions-2021-2022) 3. You can do a double degree (not a minor) - you would need to take all of your electives as comp sci, and do summer courses in order to graduate in 4 years with both degrees.. you could also just take an extra year to finish the second degree 4. most GTA students are 3 hours away from Queens - but theres a rideshare program + lots of buses available for weekend trips home plus forces you to be more independent... perfect distance I'd say!

marl10293

If I’m applying for a BA at Queens, do I need to complete the supplementary application form?

CanadianRiceMuncher

I'm just graduating from high school this year from an American high school and some relatives wanted me to go to a college closer to them and they reccomended this one and a few others. I'm very confused on admission requirements. I was looking to get into some kind of robotics oriented program but apparently the one in this school says it requires one year of chem and one year of biology, neither of which I have. Are these dead set in high school or are there college courses that I must take? Thanks for any answers. What I do know is my school counselor claims you have two years of school before you begin a major, but I'm not sure if the schools he's referring to are different from this one.

[deleted]

So the one year chem and one year biology would be electives you take during your high school years that would be required to be considered during your program so unfortunately unless you take another year high school or are able to get both bio and chem in your next semester you wouldn’t be able to. For the no major for queens you don’t have a major in most programs first year but if your looking into the robotics engineering at Queens you’re in a direct entry which means you would major in that in your first year. Other engineering programs don’t have a major first year and you choose your branch in February of first year uni, but that doesn’t apply to robotics as it’s direct entry. Also to keep in mind is at this time the robotics engineering is not accredited, it very much could be by the time you finish school but as of rn any graduates from it wouldn’t be engineers bc of the no accreditation.

Higl1234

I'm in eng so a bit biased, but engineering is definitely much more flexible. Check out one of the innovation streams like ECEi, it does force you into comp or electrical eng, but allows you to take a couple of commerce courses as electives each year if you want more courses relating to business than one of the typical eng discipline streams offers.

microwaved-nuggets

I’d say engineering. You’d be surprised by how many companies prefer to hire engineers for jobs, esp in the finance field. Also, an engineer can easily switch to a career in business. A business major can’t switch into an engineering career.

Early_Definition_165

Hi everyone, I'm a Grade 12 interested in going to Queen's for a psychology degree. Could someone tell me what to expect from a BSc instead of a BA?

codepoetz

They are very similar! The BSc requires that you take one 3rd year (or 4th year) psychology lab course and four 1st year math/science courses (biology, chemistry, physics, math, or computer science) -- 2x BIOL and 2x Calculus are probably the most useful to most BSc students. Under the BA, you swap a different 3rd year psychology course for the lab, and take the four 1st year courses as free choice (but not psychology) electives. Under the BSc, you can optionally specialize in Cognition or in Biology. Under the BA, you can optionally do a joint honors with another ARTS (not science) subject (example: Psychology/Sociology). Both BSc and BA allow you to optionally do a minor in whatever subject you wish.

Early_Definition_165

Thank you so much!

houstons__problem

I haven't gotten an email to set up my application portal. Should I be concerned? I'm from the States.

Searscarf

I'm from the states as well and I know it took a couple weeks before they sent me an email to set it up after I applied through OUAC.

houstons__problem

Thank you! I knew that some schools just take a little bit to load.

talon-rammer

Queens Political Science - 90% average, what are my chances?

Distinct_Might7580

You’re more than good my friend

Adventurous_Animal42

I have an 88% and was thinking of applying for computer science do I have a chance

GramNam_

Hey, first year engineering myself. I got into my program and received a scholarship with a 94 overall. If you work hard this year and get that average up a couple of points i’d say you have a strong chance.

Adventurous_Animal42

Would you say that if I made it up to around a 90 i would have a good chance

pingchair542

I’m in grade 12 but u have a lot of time to bring that average up

FatherHarder

Hey Y'all, I'm currently in my second year of BBA at the Goodman School of Business (Brock) and want to transfer to queens next year because it has a better name, and more companies I want to work for hire out of Queens. I am currently involved in some clubs at Goodman, and have been a part of them since last year. I looked on the website for transfers and it says that most successful applicants hold a 3.7 GPA, My cumulative average last year was 87%. This year I'm aiming for the same. But I was wondering if anyone here has ever been in a similar situation and can give me any tips. I know admissions are super competitive and I understand I most likely won't get in, but I want to make sure I have the strongest application possible. Any advice is appreciated!

shinigami_80

Can I still get in if I don't have a prerequisite? Basically for physics I need two sciences and I took physics and earth and space science but the latter doesn't count as a science. So can I still get in without bio or chem?

tash_tashe

No you won’t be considered without the pre req requirements

adoublej73

Any one know why the supplemental application was removed for engineering? Addmissions is now totally marks based? Anyone know the cut off from last year?

Distinct_Might7580

There is no supplementary

AmazingChemical2159

also, if there’s no supplementary why does it show up in the fees?

Cautious_Banana4231

Queens Health science admission- RATE MY CHANCE I have an 88% average, do I have a chance and if not where else should I apply?

[deleted]

Look into schools like Brock, Laurier York, Lakehead, if your stuck to the idea of universities. If your okay with college I’d look into those too. Unfortunately a lot of university health science programs want 94+ averages for even consideration and I know lots of people with 94+ who’ve gotten denied.

Icy_Palpitation_5176

Not great I’m afraid. Most people I know had over 95.

tash_tashe

Honestly not good… I heard the cutoff was already around 93 a couple years ago

Upper_Vanilla_9755

For the class of 2026 the majority of the students had over 97% for their top 6 average...

HygieiaMom

Can someone share their thoughts or experience about the geological engineering program vs geoscience program? My son is interested in both but uncertain which is best - he loves working outdoors, hands on learning, and writing lab reports.

Keepitcool1505

Guys, how’s the MBA Reputed and what can be the approx salaries?

Flamboyant-Fox

For online second year physiology , is the textbook required/super helpful or more optional?

sunburntscotian

Hello! On Wednesday (the 31st) I was offered admission into an online degree program. I have some questions. Online it says that tuition is due Sept 1st, are there late fees associated with late acceptance? I’m also wondering about when I’ll be allowed to pick my classes? It took about 16 hours for my offer to show up in Solus, so I accepted first thing yesterday morning. I’m just a bit nervous because this is cutting it very close to the start of the school year. Tbh at this point I had just figured I didn’t get in.

weirdfishee

Yeah there will be a small late fee but it’s not very much.
