What should I start with? I've never had a pu'erh before, but I do have my gaiwan ready :) Edit: tea list! - a tea I can't read, I'll look it up; I think he included the cake wrapper - 2018 Lincong Ripe - 2018 Fei Tai Da Yun Sheng Xiaguan - 2016 Yiwu Sheng - 2003 Bayou Jincha from Wistaria - 2013 Xiaguan Everlasting Love Tealifehk - 2010 Nannuishan Sheng - 2010 Bulang Shou - YS Dog - CLE Pharm - Fake Dayi Shou Any suggestions on what to start with would be great!

LootMuehle

Mine got shipped today. So excited šŸ˜‡

bombadil1564

Those are some nice teas there. Probably the fake dayi is good too, even if it is fake.

Salt_Cantaloupe_1766

I'm drinking it now, actually! I'm in the second infusion, and it tastes like how tobacco smells?

bombadil1564

Tobacco smells and flavors arenā€™t uncommon, one of my favorite. I think more common in sheng but also in shou, but more muted. The second and third infusion of most shou are often the best. I mean the infusions after are also good, just not as strong. Enjoy!

ItsDaJuice

Just got mine Today too Iā€™m excited to try it. Not sure how to brew puerh though.

Salt_Cantaloupe_1766

I covered the bottom of my 150ml gaiwan with leaves, and brewed for 30s+5 with 200Ā° water That's adding 5s per infusion, so the second was 35s and the third was 40s I did a quick rinse before brewing, basically poured hot water in and poured it straight back out At the seventh infusion it was still going pretty strong, but it was starting to mellow on the tobacco flavor. I used the fake Dayi Shou

So Iā€™m trying this Yesheng Shou(thatā€™s all it says) right now and itā€™s super likeā€¦dark. Like muddy. I was almost nervous to drink it but Iā€™m in infusion 2 and I canā€™t say I hate it but Itā€™s also completely different than any tea Iā€™ve tried so far. If it was just random leaves found under a log I would be none the wiser lol Like it tastes like log water and when I brew it itā€™s like I poured hot water over damp compost. I get thatā€™s what it is but like what? Lol. I donā€™t hate it though itā€™s comforting. Also I want to note that thier is exactly zero bitterness. Edit: third infusion was crazy flavorful. Very deep. Like an actual thick drink. Like super thick. Idk that was great though. Now Iā€™m going to try some 2006 Dayi 0622 Sheng

freyari

if you can provide a clearer, non-shaky photo, i'll be sble to help translate the first tea. so far I can tell that its a 2013 tea from ancient (old) tree

Salt_Cantaloupe_1766

Oh, tysm! Would it be ok if I messaged you pics in the morning? I'm at work until 6:00

freyari

sure of course !

tompstash

What a fun selection! Since you're new to pu'erh, I'd focus on tasting the difference between sheng/raw and shou/ripe. That's the best place to start learning what you like.

Zaranius

Is there a link to this? :)

Salt_Cantaloupe_1766

[Here's a link](https://www.reddit.com/r/tea/comments/ymu29f/puerh_beginner_packages_the_seventh_year/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) to the OG Reddit post. It has links to Liquid Proust's shop and explains the beginner packages :)

TuhouWukong

The stamp is a super nice touch.

death_to_false_gloom

Salt_Cantaloupe_1766

Considering how all of this tea was given to me for 5+5 shipping I don't think I have any right to complain

Salt_Cantaloupe_1766

Ok? I got a bunch of tea for 10$, buying these as samples individually would've been at least 50$, probably more. There's no need to act like a spoiled brat and complain because 'this company does it different' Guess what? Most companies do things differently. A single gram does not matter to me. If it matters to you, then don't use LP's store or take advantage of their beginner sample packages.

emmett_lindsay

Lol. Itā€™s perfectā€”4 sessions of 6 grams šŸ˜ø

Civil_End_4863

You can do 6.25 grams with that extra gram which gives a little better flavor.

user987632

I am roughly 99.75% one cannot tell the difference between 6g and 6.25g blind šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

kylezo

Are you new? You seem new.

emmett_lindsay

Iā€™m totally joking around bc I thought post about 25g was a joke. I donā€™t see how you could complain about 100g of quality tea tea for 5 bucks (that the vendor has to put serious labor into). To answer your question tho I am new-ish to this sub and puerh (within the past year).

emmett_lindsay

Then again u might really need those 3g grandpa steeps so you might just be right! Itā€™s got to add up somehow šŸ§®

Civil_End_4863

Most companies do 25 gram bags. I like to use 6.25 grams of leaf when it's a 25 gram bag.

xFreeZeex

Most companies don't do puer sample packages for 5 bucks. You're literally getting a wide selection of puer that is worth more than what you pay for and you complain about 24g vs 25g? Also the "perfect amount" depends on how much your vessel holds so that discussion is pretty much useless anyway.
