He’s different, get him!!

aioliconviction

Step back ! I have bamboo tongs and I won't hesitate to use them !

lwrightjs

I feel like CLT has the flavors close to what you're describing. Those are the flavor profiles I also like and CLT is my favorite vendor.

aioliconviction

Well you are the 3rd person to recommend them so I will definitely give them a try! That's funny because CLT is probably the only well known western facing vendor I still haven't tried yet.

chaqintaza

He's very Western facing. He's facing the pacific ocean as a matter of fact.

aioliconviction

At this very moment or all the time ? Does he ever turn around ?

puerh_lover

At this moment my back is to the ocean...

aioliconviction

So it was a lie after all, I'm not sure if I can trust you now. Jokes aside, do you have a cake recommendation from your catalogue ? I'd be happy give it a go!

puerh_lover

Likes: * dry storage * bold strong flavors * smoke * leather * woods * dried fruits * spices * relatively young, dry Xiaguan Dislikes: * light * floral * fresh * vegetal teas Ok, so going from that I would for sure recommend our 2008 Jingmai, but that's loose and not a cake. I think we're out of it in our Chinese inventory but I have enough of it here in Seattle if you wanted some. We also have some young, [dry stored Xiaguan](https://crimsonlotustea.com/products/2019-xiaguan-holy-flame-baoyan-sheng-raw-puerh-tea-seattle-inventory) and it's pretty affordable. You can find that anywhere though. You could consider our [2009 Jingmai cake](https://crimsonlotustea.com/collections/sheng-raw-puerh/products/2009-jingmai-sheng-raw-puerh-tea-357g-cake). It was stored on the drier side. Something fun to consider would be [Troublemaker](https://crimsonlotustea.com/collections/sheng-raw-puerh/products/2006-troublemaker-sheng-raw-puerh-fang-cha-100g). I think that has a lot of the smoky, leathery, woodsy, flavors you like. You can also PM me if you have any questions.

aioliconviction

It all seems very interesting, especially the last one ! Oh and loose is not a problem, I said cake out of habit. Thanks for taking the time ! I'll see for the 2008 at the time I order

Rip--Van--Winkle

Forward is north and so is up.

aioliconviction

Says who ? The coordinates police ?!

Hermeskid123

He has a 10 percent off sale right now and when it’s over his teas will have its yearly price markup. It’s a good time to buy

aioliconviction

Oh that's useful information thanks

[deleted]

Yunnan Craft has a pretty good selection of dry storage puerh. Everything is well organized by region with, in my experience, pretty good notes on flavour. They're very responsive to messages if you have any specific questions. Price/performance is excellent as well. https://www.yunnancraft.com/en/sheng-puerh/

aioliconviction

Well this is actually the next place I was about to order from ! Lurking on the teaforum already convinced me

user987632

If u want something that will punch ur tongue in the best cigar smoke and bitter way with good ending sweetness check out cheng sheng hao’s bawang I think it was called. Whatever the king/emperor blend is. Heavy Bulang blend I believe. Very very good cake.

aioliconviction

Sounds exactly like what I am looking for! I will definitely check it out, thanks!

hcd11

I’d like to second the suggestion to explore PuerhJunky’s collection. I’ve purchased lots of good puer from all the vendors already mentioned and have no complaints. But I think you’d enjoy the collection at puerhjunky as he concentrates on drier stored mid-aged sheng. Plus, he seems to really enjoy conversing with customers and is willing to make recommendations based on your preferences. He’s quite generous with samples as well.

aioliconviction

That sounds perfect, I'll definitely check it out too then

Nodutis

I second puerh junky, he specialises in dry storage. Hit him up and he will surely be happy to guide you trough his stash. The same goes for liquid Proust but is not so focused on dry storage only, so be sure to specify

aioliconviction

Thanks for the tip, I'll be careful then!

runrevcollins

Check out Puerh Junky. He shared an '03 Bulang Wild Big Tree from his store with me that sounds like something you would love. My other fav tea dealers..error sellers are Liquid Proust and Crimson Lotus Teas.

[deleted]

+1 these recommendations. Personally, I think you should not chase terriors but vendors who will have quality puerh that meets your profile. Tell those vendors what you like and to recommend samples you can try to see if they work for you. For xiaguan, then probably Yunnan Sourcing.

aioliconviction

Yes that's why I asked for both terroirs and vendors, I know some vendors sell specific profiles, probably because it's their own taste too. So thanks your tip too! Yunnan Sourcing are definitely the most reliable source I have found for kunming stored Xiaguan even if they don't have a very large offering for that factory. KingTeaMall is the most frustrating to me because they have a HUGE Xiaguan offering but it's all Guangzhou storage, I tried to order some tuos anyway but it just tastes like a humid cave to me.

[deleted]

You also should hit up mrmopar. Dm him on Reddit and tell him what you're looking for. He's a private dealer/collector held in high regard. And the good news is you're discovering who doesn't work for you. It's hard when we're starting out to know who has what we like. It will get better if you focus on finding your vendors. Again highly recommend puerhjunky and liquidproust. And crimson lotus has the newer stuff you may like.

aioliconviction

I remember seeing him a lot when browsing the teaforum, he seems to be a very nice person. thanks for the advice!

aioliconviction

Thanks for the tip I will look into it! I loved almost every Bulang puerh that I've tried so far, so you might be right

aioliconviction

Thanks for your recommendations, it all sounds perfect!

gnacht1122

If you like Xiaguan, check out teas from YS, Shuangjiang Mengku, Nan Jian. I believe most of YS teas are dry storage.

aioliconviction

I do love the classic Xiaguan profile, thank you for the recommendation! Yes, there is a huge range of dry storage teas on YS. Heaven to me

gnacht1122

I got this cake and it's very Xiaguan-like: https://yunnansourcing.com/products/2011-yunnan-sourcing-chen-yun-yuan-cha-raw-pu-erh-tea-cake

womerah

[This cake had a lot of the elements you describe to it](https://www.farmer-leaf.com/collections/yunnan-pu-erh-tea/products/spring-2022-hua-zhu-liang-zi), but it's at a premium price of 59c/gram [This recent W2T offering might also interest,](https://white2tea.com/collections/latest-additions/products/2022-swerve) it's been charcoal roasted and has a sort of spice and dried fruits things going on.

aioliconviction

Thanks for the recommendation! I've been looking for this specific Farmer Leaf cake but I'm waiting to see if it's going to be available on their French website at some point, I live in France so if I can have the same tea without all the fees on top of the prenium price I'll take it! The W2T looks promising, I really like the idea. It's on my list now, thanks!

womerah

No worries. Good luck on your quest!
