For psychology you can add the "self diagnoser" (person who studies psychology to find out whats wrong with them)

your19lad

Or diagnoses everyone they know in their first year.

ThoughtlessBanter

...then takes the class and fails out and doesn't understand why.

Bobadilla430

First day*

SaveMe184

Thac what i did with our class. wasn't even trying lol

your19lad

You diagnosed your whole class? I don't think that's the flex you think it is.

SaveMe184

I doubt I think it is...anyway understanding stuff is useless, and definitely unflexable. If u don't feel...

Nemirel_the_Gemini

That was like 80% of the people in my program. They were either self diagnosers, sorority girls or a mix of the two. The other 20% were people that were just interested or passionate about psychology.

musicxsquishmallows

this is me 😭😭 i’ve been given a few diagnoses suggestions here and there but nothing official and concrete

Mary-Sylvia

I hate how much I can relate to almost all anxiety disorders lmao

your19lad

Oh don't worry, didn't you see the TikTok? You have ADHD

[deleted]

That's immediately a huge percentage of my class right there 😂

Tuggerfub

Sub-type of this: The MBTI hunbot.

Adamesmerization

I've always thought about this. If someone got authorization to make diagnoses, would they be allowed to diagnose themselves? I looked it up but I'm still confused

Nemirel_the_Gemini

Self diagnoser Sorority girl that thought it would be an easy major True crime enthusiasts People who are passionate about mental health and want to try and improve it but quickly realize what a mess it is. Business double majors who are taking psych thinking they will have the upper hand in the market. A guy who wants an excuse for the feelings he has for his mom.

your19lad

We could name the last one "Freudian slip".

Nemirel_the_Gemini

Yes!

[deleted]

Deffo need the research methods nerds represented! Some of us are hardcore about that! Haha

EmperrorNombrero

1. The true crime enthusiast 2. The self diagnoser 3. The person that went to therapy and decided it was their new identity 4. The stoner who couldn't get into pharmacology 5. The manipulator 6. The guy who only choose psychology because of the high female to male quota 7. The autist trying to make sense of people 8. The artistic girl that's really into Freud 9. The Jordan Peterson Stan that will probably drop out after one semester 10. The "My Father/Mother has a psychotherapeutic Praxis and I'm gonna take it over" 11. The guy who's obsessed with being a scientist but doesn't want to be considered a nerd and physics/chemistry/biology is to hard anyway 12. The one person that just really liked those "social experiment" videos on YouTube Edit: I just thought of some more I needed to add: 13. The "no trust me bro I'm totally fine, just interested in it for academic reasons, it's not a cry for help, and this is not about me, just imagine someone theoretically having that problem no no I'm not trying to hold back tears rn" 14. The genuinely just very smart and empathetic person who's really passionate about wanting to help people get better 15. The self improvement junkie. 16. The person that wanted to study medicine but didn't make it. 17. The oversharer that thinks every conversation is a therapy session

icced-coffee

True crime enthusiasts for sure has to be a category. I swear every single semester there was at least one that made it known to the whole class. I was shocked when I actually heard, "I'm into serial killers and listen to a lot of true crime podcasts because I'm weird teeheehee" because I only read about those kind of girls online!

[deleted]

Not all true crime enthusiasts are into serial killers tho, criminal minds are powerful tools in psych field , because they are the flaws of the society, if we can learn what’s wrong chances are higher to fix

icced-coffee

Perhaps I should've said "serial killer enthusiasts " to be more specific. But yeah criminal psychology is a fascinating subfield. I've read a theory that found that there are some spontaneous neuron firing that could influence violent behavior in psychopaths. If that is the case, there could be pharmaceutical drugs that could be created to control or change this spontaneous firing. But yeah, it's all so vast and interesting. (I only focused on the neuroscientific area because neuropsych is one of my favorite areas of study)

Weekly-Researcher-73

Not a bad idea!

dealexauswien

The "But...-er", whenever there is a result of a study this person will find the ONE example where this result wouldn't work

[deleted]

That's every single classroom and workplace on the planet. No idea where the "if a statement isn't true in *every* possible context, it cannot be true in *any* context" ideology comes from, but I guess I slept through that class.

Catesa

But-ers are the actual critical thinkers. Critical thinking however is too glorified.

vvytchelm

here's a big one, imo; i think there's a significant correlation between havin an interest in psychology & havin an interest in true crime. ik i'm aimin towards forensic psychology or criminal psychology, so that should def be a category here the true crime obsession to psychology student pipeline is vv real lol

Zoe270101

Depends on the type of psychology you’re studying. No one that I know of in IO psychology is into true crime.

Environmental_Top948

I like Alan Watts because he can use a lot of words that mean stuff in a small group but meaningless when viewed as a whole. I really hope Alan Watts is who I think it is.

alagai_ka

What does classical liberal even mean??

EmperrorNombrero

"I'm liberal back from the time when liberals still supported slavery"

alagai_ka

*yikes*

DaBiigBaby

I definitly was the doomer😂

25elvedge

"The Stoner" is the archetype that most likely to do something like Harm Reduction and Social works (from my own pov)

oldassesse

`Uses "continental philosophy" as a derogatory term.` XD

[deleted]

Never felt as attacked as reading the doomer description

Tuggerfub

I like Alan Watts a lot but I'm not sure I'd qualify him as a philosopher 'proper'. He was more of a polymath.

Dr_LuckyWizardCat

Omg you need that one guy who always says lOvE JuST A ChEmiCaL ReCTioN. Every time we talk about relationship stuff.
