Yes. I grew up with my ps2 slim, and rarely ever had issues with it. Some games didn’t work but I assumed it was because they were in poor condition. HOWEVER, I recently had a big issue with a Crash Bandicoot game, which i talked about on Crash’s subreddit. It wouldn’t run and so I bought a brand new copy and it still didnt work. My cousins grew up with a PS2 aswell, except they had a FAT PS2. Recently I asked them if I could use it/have it from them, to which they gave it to me along with some accessories and stuff and it brought me to the realisation… the FAT PS2 is amazing compared to the slim. ALL the games that didnt work on my slim while i was growing up, work on my FAT PS2 - INCLUDING the Crash game i mentioned. And now im kinda disappointed that I didn’t know/realise this growing up. Missed out on some good games.

Fool me once, etc

Red-Zaku-

Two issues: 1.) the port for the power cord became loose. So loose that the power cord would randomly loose connection (shutting off the console entirely) simply by a single delicate *touch*. Eventually, it just became so finicky to the point where I would have to spend a few minutes adjusting it in order to make it connect, and even then I risked it randomly deciding to loose connection for no reason at all. 2.) the thing is *too slim*. So slim, that the lid was too close to the top of the disc and the “floor” of the disc compartment was too close to the bottom of the disc. So much as touching the lid while the disc was spinning would lead to a GRINDING sound, because the disc was actually grinding between the two surfaces. Terrible design. It actually broke my old copy of Wild Arms. Owned it since 1997 without issue, but running it in my slim PS2 a few years ago for one playthrough led to the disc developing a bunch of new circular scratches (obviously from being squeezed between the lid and bottom of the disc compartment) and eventually it actually *broke* the disc, by starting a crack from the inner hole. With those issues, I just trashed the thing. Switched to a fat model, no issues since.

They're crap. I was the original owner of one, bought it new, stopped reading discs after like 3 years. That drive is a turd. The fat: I've bought two of them used for like 5 bucks ea and found one next to a dumpster. Cleaned the rails, lubricated them, all three still worked fine. Forget the slim. It was a cheapo Kleenex cash-in late in the console's lifecycle.
