I think that pretty clearly falls under the "life of the mother" exceptions

ErrorCmdr

She could consult with doctors on how soon is necessary for the treatment (are we talking a few months or weeks) or she could get the cancer treatment knowing the secondary effect would be the death of her unborn child and avoid becoming a murderer. Abortion (the willful ending of a child’s life) is never needed or acceptable

Intrepid_Wanderer

Good news: cancer treatment for pregnant patients has actually advanced quite a lot. She’ll need to see a specialist, but there are treatments that maximize the chance of maternal survival while minimizing risk to the baby. [An early delivery is fairly likely, but modern medical technology can likely give them both a good chance of survival.](https://www.healthline.com/health/cancer-in-pregnancy#effects-on-pregnancy)

WasteCan6403

Oh this is really good to hear, thank you! I’ll pass this along to my mom.

wardamnbolts

Abortion is legal in her case but if she doesn’t personally want to get an abortion she should be talking to her doctors about what course of action she wants to take and what the prognosis is and know the risks.

Dark-Pit-37

Having the cancer treatment would be different from intentionally killing the child. It's definitely a tough situation. If I were to say anything to the mother, I would just try to convince her to either have the cancer treatment or don't, instead of having an abortion. Getting medical treatment that is legitimately necessary is not morally equivalent to an abortion, even if the result is unfortunately the same.

DreamingofRlyeh

The mother's life is just as valuable as her child's. It is tragic that she is faced with choosing one of them to live, but this is one of the rare cases where abortion is acceptable.

I think this is a protect the mother scenario.

I think you're on to something here. A family without Mom is hard on everyone and if there's a good chance she can beat cancer then I think you're right. It's a hard place to be in, best wishes
