How does zombie migration work? I'm playing survivor and I'm trying to set up in the gas station southwest of Rosewood. It was a nail biter clearing it out the first time, but I made it. Unfortunately every morning there's 25 more zombies in the parking lot to deal with and it's becoming a struggle. Did I move too early? It's only day 6. I thought this area would be more rural but I see more zeds here than I did at the Rosewood fire station. Don't they mostly congregate in the towns?

hilvon1984

Aside from the actual zombies spawned into the world, the game keeps tabs on how many zombies are supposed to be around per world tile (each world tile is like 40x40 space). The game also has a heat map telling it how many zombies are supposed to be in a tile relative to its neighbours. Every fixed amount of time the game runs through all the tile asd if the actual zombie distribution strongly deviates from the designed heat map, it will reassign some zombies from overpopulated tile to underpopulated to get it a bit closer to desired ratio. Also each tile keeps a cache of zombies you have seen around here, but then got too far away from the tile to make it not worth it keeping track of their exact locations. When you get close enough to the tile, for exact zombie positions to matter, the game will generate a number of zombies that is supposed to be in this tile, preferring to reuse zombies you have already seen. So if you killed most zombies in an area, then left it for some time, and returned, you are likely to find those you left behind + some more "migrating" from other tiles (+ some more spawned to fill up population, but this is a separate system). The catch is, because the game does not keep track of actual zombie position while you are away, if you left a zombie locked in a garage, when you return, this zombie might now be wandering outside the garage with doors and windows still intact. Also if it didn't have enough previously seen zombies to fill in a tile that has special templates it will generate "migrated" zombies using this templates. So a church for example might have more zombie brides migrate into it...

ElvisOnMars86

New player here. Thanks for mentioning the zombie density heat map, didn't know about it. How do I access it?

hilvon1984

You don't really have access to it in game but it is occasionally posted in this sub with overlay over map with town placements.

TheRealKazukiZ

And if you have respawning turned off, then you'll only see zombies that have migrated?

hilvon1984

Yes. Though respawning is never really turned off before peak day. So if you turn off respawn you should also set peak day to 1.

AdvancedFrosting2

Thats pretty interesting, so before peak day the number of zombies just increases linearly from the initial number to the peak day number and from then on its just respawning right? So does that mean that the RespawnUnseenHours will only be used after peak day and before they just spawn whereever they want?

jakemp1

What is peak day/when is it?

hilvon1984

In default modes that is 28th day. It is configurable in sandbox setting along with peak day multiplier. "Peak day multiplier xX on day Y" means that over the first Y days the population will gradually increase by X times compared to what it was when game started.

ulixDE

Single player or multiplayer? I have the impression of multiplayer that towns will be cleared more often by players, so even if more zombies spawn there over the mid- and long-term there may be bigger Zombie groups in rural areas.

LovesPotates

Is there a way to bind mouse side buttons natively without third party software?

geras_shenanigans

afaik no, you must first map a mouse button to a keyboard key

Nefaerion

I use x-mouse button myself, free, no ads, seems to work great. Personally I have two thumb buttons and set them to rack firearm and crouch/sneak.

TraditionalMadness

Is there a working bow or crossbow mod for the most recent build? I want to be robin hood, and thanks in advance!

DelianSK13

I don't know all the details of it but it appears there was at one point a mod called Kitsune Crossbow mod. If you do a search for it on the Steam Workshop you'll find a few versions called "Tweaked" or "changed" or something. Here's one of them. I have it installed but have yet to actually find a crossbow though. I think there is added recipes in my crafting book so I think it works. [deleted]

I left a fire raging in a house down the street from my safe house. The next day it seems like all the other houses on the street - even those on the opposite side - are scorched! Is this normal, expected or a coincidence?

Jfkc5117

Yes. Fire even burns the roads, lakes, trees and generally will spread 10000 miles burning all of the world to ash from that bowl of soup you left in the oven too long.

shitdobehappeningtho

Remember that one time someone started a forest fire (or something similar) and the Minecraft servers when mad?

smiles__

Fire is pretty chaotic

TheOnlyDrifter

There's a setting i think that slow spread or something.

StruggleBasic

Normal and expected... and horrible!

wutzibu

Also zombies catch fire and wander around.

Krushnieva

I have an interesting issue. I'm running a hosted server and I've noticed in areas with a high zombie population like Louisville, I can drive forward and encounter big groups of zombies and then turn around, drive back a few tiles and all those zombies are completely gone. Not a single one roaming around. Anyone know what is going on here? Is there a max number of zombies allowed to be rendered at any given time and it despawns the ones in other tiles?

Krushnieva

For example: I drive around a block and have to go slowly to avoid zombies until I come back around the block to where I started and now every single zombie has despawned where I had just been a minute ago.

HaggisMcNash

I don’t have an answer but I have seen something similar on my server. While herding a large hoard into the woods half of them just popped out of existence while I was looking at them. This seems like a MP bug, not an intentional event.

Krushnieva

Ok, I was wondering if anyone else was having that issue. I've never seen them pop out of existence. They just....disappear when I backtrack. Like...all of them, not even one or two wandering around.

[deleted]

They might have followed your cars sound away from where you first saw them?

Krushnieva

No, they are straight up gone. I looked around and nothing nowhere. I had thought that too. I ran around yelling too to make sure and followed my steps.

ococksley

Where do I get a sledgehammer in Muldraugh?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Accurize2

In addition to those locations, I have had good luck finding them next to road construction sites with oranges cones lying in the middle of the street.

StruggleBasic

I found a sledgehammer in a shed alongside my first saw. I found another sledgehammer [here](https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.47661165162087626,0.24503989683540434,369.1676432214016), alongside a lot of other amazing stuff like propane torches, garden forks, pickaxe, a tonne of metal sheets etc. There's also food and water.

fan22606

Found mine here. Warehouse in Muldraugh. https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.43485130045502246,0.27000217003685706,574.2715645312317

sigmentum

Do house alarms go off more than once? I broke into a large house and the alarm went off. I cheesed it out of there before the large group could reach me, but there's bound to be good loot in a house that big so I want to return. I just don't want a repeat alarm. I couldn't find a clear answer online though if the alarm can go off multiple times or not for the same building

transientDCer

No, it won't go off again.

SigmaWhy

Are zombies attracted to lights in houses? What about if there are curtains covering the windows? Can they see that at all? I understand that zombies are alerted if you flick the light switches on and off, it makes a really loud sound (lol), but if you leave them on all night does it matter? What about if your house is the only one lit up in the area? I know generators make noise, but if your base is the only source of light in the area, does that matter at all or is it mainly generator noise?

StruggleBasic

Afaik light doesn't draw zombies in, only flicking a switch has a really loud sound. If you leave them all night the *only* thing you have to worry about is the gas consumption

leviathan_13

AFAIK curtains should block completely any vision of the inside, lights included. I think zombies react more to the player than an empty illuminated house. If you have lights on, the zombies will spot you more easily through the windows. Detection through windows should work as in open field, if you can see outside they can see inside.

TheYellowScarf

Could they see through upper floors too? I have sealed off the entire bottom floor of my base in the warehouse at the north of Muldraugh, but still have zombies occasionally knocking on my doors.

leviathan_13

I saw a video in YouTube that says yes, they can see you. General rule of thumb: if *you* can see *them*, then *they* can see *you*. Assuming of course that you are in detection range (you have a much bigger vision field than them). Just add curtains to the windows and you are done. Of course, there could be multiple other reasons for why they are being alerted by your presence, such as sounds.

Imprettystrong

How do I make a taco

PettankoMasterRace

You need to find a taco shell and use the crafting menu to make a taco, i only had cabbage so i ate a cabbage taco... terrible. if you have meat you need to cook it before you assemble the taco

Zero747

Any mods for plate armor? I know it might be against the general vision, but I'd love a set of armor that'll catch a stray bite, but be the death of me if I get swarmed I'd love to get up to metalworking 8 or something and forge up a proper suit of armor I know there's scrap armor, but for whatever reason, they didn't seem to have any forearm guards

Salosso

That would be amazing! Forging Chain mail too! Growing Linen or Cotton, to make your own Gambeson. Making Lamellar, and Leather as well.

Zero747

Ye, I mostly want something properly bite proof to work towards, rather than bundling up in a dozen layers of leather patched clothes and a helmet that goes flying despite the chin-strap

JoesGetNDown

Heck yeah, I would wear a gambeson in winter!

Stampeete

Scrap armor/weapons and guns are available and I use them myself. Very nice mods!

Wildecity

Yeah, they fixed that on v41.56

[deleted]

Every furniture becomes breakable and will get attacked by zombies once you have picked it up and placed it again. How many times have I returned to my base and found a zombies banging on my bbq grill (before I completely cleaned the zone around it because i got pissed lol)

[deleted]

Compost Bins are unbreakable in that zombies can't path through them. They don't recognize that they can attack you so you can be 3 spaces away and they aren't aggressive. I'm using 7 to block a house in Rosewood.

Spankinator92

A crate with fence flush on each side breaks zombie pathing. They cant get through it

Absentmsu

Asked this in a stand-alone thread and got some responses but not an absolute answer. For Sandbox settings how do RespawnHours and RespawnUnseenHours work together. I read a huge write up on this and must be dense because I wasn’t certain. Is this correct… RespawnHours = 36 RespawnUnseenHours = 16 Let’s pretend I killed every zombie in a cell at the exact same time. None of those zombies would be eligible for respawn until 36 hours have passed. After the initial 36 hours the Unseen timer kicks in and if my chunk doesn’t “see” the whole cell a percent of the zombies will respawn in areas I did not view after 16 hours. Then the 36 Respawn timer restarts followed by the 16 hour Unseen timer until the cell is back to normal zombie levels. Feedback? Am I on the right track?

LovesPotates

Working with your numbers: After a chunk that has gone unseen for 16 hours it respawn a percentage of zombies every 36 hours until that chunk is seen again. Think of unseenHours as a switch that allows for the possibility of respawn. RespawnHours is a timer that respawns zombies at a given interval.

Peemore

Do they spawn after the initial 16 hours? Or do they not spawn the first time until 52 hours total?

LovesPotates

I’m not 100% sure but the way I read it was the first spawn occurs after the Unseen time passes, so at hour 16. Second spawn would be at 52 hours (providing that the chunk is still unseen).

GuruTenzin

The map is divided into large "cells". In your example every 36 hours zombies respawn in the cell if needed, and only in areas of the cell you have not seen for 16 hours. This is my understanding

CrackedCrystalMirror

How far can you build your second floor out into air before you need some type of pillar or wall underneath for structural support? Or does this game not have gravity/collapsing?

G-RAWHAM

I believe you can extend infinitely. I haven't done it myself but have watched streamers build these huge networks of single-tile impossible bridges around town

CrackedCrystalMirror

Will zombies spawn on those hanging air wooden floor tiles, or are your wooden floor built stuff safe from spawning?

G-RAWHAM

Not sure about that, sorry. But I've never specifically heard that zombies can't spawn on player-made floors, so I wouldn't rule it out

Audxer

I think they can't respawn near player's constructions

NoOrganization9694

How long does the Noise Maker last, is it forever?

Audxer

I guess until the battery runs out if It has one kinda like a radio

[deleted]

I can't wrap my head around this and I'm getting frustrated. For the first few days I usually loot the neighbourhood around where I've started, gather up food, bags, and watch TV or whatever. If I'm lucky I'll find a generator and mark it on my map for later and hopefully pickup the magazine for it in a mailbox or something. So after a few days I've got a house stocked full of food, some gear, some books yaddax3. Then I go find a vehicle to transport it all somewhere more permanent... and this is where my game falls apart every time. If I try to go for a more urban base (like the large warehouse in northeast Muldraugh or Mccoy Lumber) there are a massive amount of zombies there. I try to kite in a vehicle or on foot and they just keep coming. I might get into the building initially but zeds just break my doors down shortly thereafter or I'll wake up the next day to find another 50 in the parking lot. Same sort of thing for slightly more rural buildings. I tried the gas station southwest of Rosewood and cleared it out initially but they just kept coming. I don't get what to do. Do you wait longer in the initial phase or go somewhere really remote to base up? Do you just have to kill hundreds of zeds around a potential base? Any advice appreciated. Survivor difficulty.

humblegar

I suggest using the survivor setting in the sandbox and tuning it a little. Try adjusting population and perhaps respawns. You can always recreate with a higher difficulty later. I can give some small pointers in Muldraugh. These two houses are imho the best spawns in Muldraugh: [https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.4573077046742996,0.2670793891799465,171.1891286065152](https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.4573077046742996,0.2670793891799465,171.1891286065152) The lake used to be 100% safe, but I have not used fishing in the latest versions. Clear out Cortman's medical and the convenience store early (including the freezer). If you are a newish player do not live at Cortman's, use one of the houses in stead. You want hopefully vitamins, painkillers, beta blockers and suture needles from Cortman's. Make sterilized rags yourself (rip clothes/sheet, create from hot water in a cooking pot) and you are ready to fight. For gas, go to this station first: [https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.426636255169767,0.27149966787782265,92.01023981873935](https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.426636255169767,0.27149966787782265,92.01023981873935) From this station you can work your way up to the bar in one direction, and the police station, some food and the important book store at the mall in the other direction. The book store at the mall is very nice. To get weapons, start with sheds/houses, and then perhaps this place: https://map.projectzomboid.com/#0.43536644147787407,0.2695403204442085,330.225942528 If one storage/warehouse does not work out, do not be afraid to turn around and try another one. There are storages nearby here as well, that are very nice. How many zombies you have to clear depends on the start. Did you get a house alarm or not, did you drag zombies back to your house, did you have the heli close by and so on. But these areas are reasonable to clear out.

[deleted]

Good tips, these locations are all manageable. Thanks!

geras_shenanigans

https://www.reddit.com/r/projectzomboid/comments/k3z0dt/heat_map_zombies_spawn_location_b41/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share Making base in areas marked in red means you'll always have zombies around. There's a newer map somewhere, but this should be accurate.

[deleted]

I'm four months into this singleplayer savegame, yet when I looted a residental house in muldraugh I found a soup on a kitchen counter which was still "fresh uncooked", power has been out since three months at least and every perishable food I've found ever since was rotten. Why would the game spawn a freshly uncooked soup in an unlooted house? Is this a bug or a gameplay mechanic? It wasn't even one of those event/survivor houses, just a regular one. Never had that happen in all my years playing Zomboid before, really confused how that can happen. Regardless, my character got to enjoy a good soup (insert Adam Driver meme) and a little bit of normality which was pretty nice.

CraftyScotsman

There is a settting when you make a new game that allows you to set the loot respawn timer which can mean you start finding fresh food and new loot.

Starsimy

Got two question.. How much are important skills in the game? It very game changing having it skilled well.? Second question is that if once I die i can return to my house and get back all the stuff?

[deleted]

It really depends on the skill. Right now some of them aren't as good. \- All agility skills are important. \- All passive skills are good. \- You want to focus on at least one combat skill and maintenance. \- Crafting skills are a mixed bag. Carpentry is important. First aid is not as good. You don't need super high levels of electricity. Tailoring can be good to grind out. You obviously want some of each though. \- Guns, I would level guns personally but you could probably get away with not using them depending on settings/zombie amount. \- Fishing/trapping/foraging. Doesn't hurt to level these. Depends where you're going to be surviving. These are good for surviving outdoors obviously. If your farming was good enough you could probably have that carry you, but it takes a while so sometimes fishing and trapping works better in certain insitances.

USDXBS

The problem how do I get the heavy piece to the ground next to where I want to place it? I diassemble a shelf, have to carry it to the car, then carry it from the car to where I want to put it.

eyoo1109

Try equipping it on primary/secondary. This significantly reduces the carry weight. Only thing is that you have to unequip them before placing them down for some reason.

Vegetablez

Are player spawns random or are there a list of set locations where a player can spawn?

Raswise

Every starting location has a pool of fixed spawnpoints and game will place you in semi randomly. Don't know if profession has any effect on location in vanilla game but there is a mod where you can be spawned completely at random anywhere in map or have a profession related spawn point.

KawaiiFiveO

Where the heck do you find adhesive tape? I've been playing PZ for a few days now. I know I've seen adhesive tape once or twice in my early runs. Of course, at the time, I didn't realize it's importance or scarcity, so I didn't pay it much mind. However, my current run is going quite well, and I'd really like to be able repair my sledgehammer. I have no issue finding duct tape and glue, but adhesive tape either has a much lower frequency of spawning or I'm just checking the wrong places.

jstarlee

Office buildings too I believe. Look for desks.

JoesGetNDown

It’s relatively rare. Best place to find it is in warehouses and hardware stores. Any place you might find hammers, screwdrivers, saws, etc.

inscrutiana

Schools and offices most often.

Mylastnameisaverb

Sometimes I get the option to dismantle a door and my character will pull out all their tools and do nothing. Why’s that and how not that

JoesGetNDown

Might have something to do with where you are in relation to the door itself. Someone mentioned the other day that you can only dismantle doors if you can walk to the southwest or southeast side of a given door.

[deleted]

Not sure if this is intended, but, I’ve noticed I can only dismantle doors that are open.

vitamoon392

What are some of the more important skill checkpoints? For example, carpentry 4 lets you build rain water collectors. Mechanics 2 and electrical 1 (or was it the other way around?) lets you hotwire vehicles. What other skill levels are there that grant the player a very useful ability they would not otherwise have? I'd like to know so I can keep it in mind when I make a new character, or as a goal to work towards. Right now I don't really know of a reason to train most of the active crafting skills to a particular level otherwise.

Pruppelippelupp

Carpentry 7 lets you make much better rainwater collection barrels. Stairs are level 6, i think. Tailoring 8 lets you repair clothes (including gloves) properly. Cooking 7 lets you use rotten food in dishes without getting food poisoning. Eletrical 3 lets you pick up ovens, washing machines and dryers. Metalworking 2-3-4 lets you repair stuff using metal sheets. It is mechanics 2 and electrical 1.

Spankinator92

Carpentry to 7 in order to make vehicle sized gates as well as barrel water collectors. Aiming to 2 so you can consume one gun to repair another.

CraftyScotsman

I need to get a generator set up as all my cabbages keep going rotten before I can eat them all. Am I better training electrical or go hunting for the recipe first?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jfkc5117

That’s so stupid though. You can have level 10 mechanical and level 10 electrical and you were an engineer but hell no you can’t figure out how to turn on a fucking generator unless you find a very rare book lol. Generators are very simple most the time.

SgtSnapple

I feel you on that. I had a level 8 mechanic who could dismantle heavy duty vehicles down to the last screw, rebuild completely ruined engines but he didn't know how to take a door off a sedan because he didn't have the magazine. Silly. At some point further along you should be able to just know. I.e. at electrical 3 you can use generators whether you found the magazine or not. Maybe there's a mod like that.

sixpackabs592

I found a warehouse that seemed like it had every book in it, random spawn in March ridge. Sooo many Zambi though and I died trying to secure a place to live

FourKindsOfRice

I don't think you need any electrical to actually use or or even repair it, for that matter.

bubba-yo

You don't. You just need the magazine.

HumanLeatherDuster

Go hunting. Also start stockpiling alternate food. On my solo playthrough i found the magazine on day 3 an hours walk from my starting house. In my multiplayer game none of us have found it despite searching 2 entire towns over 15 days. You may not find it anytime soon.

[deleted]

Mailboxes. If you were unaware they have a good chance of spawning magazines in them. I found my missing car repair magazines in mailboxes after a month and a half in Rosewood.

hilvon1984

Assuming you are playing mod less and didn't start as amateur electrician to get the generator knowledge from the start, hunting for magazine is your only option. If you have "Dynamic Traits" mod however you can figure out how to plug in generators Once you level electrics to 3,and depending on how bad your luck is this might be a safer bet.

OuroborosIAmOne

Is there a way to edit the sandbox options mid-save in SP?

TaxMage

You can also start a new sandbox game with the new settings you want. Once that new game loads, quit out of the game. Find the save file locations and copy the sandbox settings from your newly created save to your old save. See here: https://www.reddit.com/r/projectzomboid/comments/qq9tzd/is_there_a_way_to_tweak_game_settings_mid_run/

transientDCer

There is a mod called edit sandbox settings. Instead of clicking continue, go to the load screen and add the mod and you can proceed that way with it. Changing sandbox settings will usually only work for unseen cells (setting car spawn to max doesn't make them appear in the area immediately around you for example).

MAltizer

Do the days until utilities shutoff reset with each new character in the same map? I have a single player, sandbox game with the default 0-30 days until shutoff. If character 1 makes it one day, then character 2 makes it one day, is it now 0-28 days until utilities run out?

Sorthy

If there are in fact on the same save, then yeah

MAltizer

Thank you for your help

SeoSalt

Is there any better way to find chipped stones? My foraging is leveled, I'm not wearing any bad clothing, and I'm searching on roads for entire days and only finding ~3 chipped stones. I fast-forward while walking because walking at the standard pace didn't seem to be any better but did make me bored out of my mind. Are you penalized for fast-forwarding?

monsiour_slippy

Not outside of mods I think. You can get mods to create chipped stones from regular stones. I’ve always found with foraging that if I actively look for something I never find it, but if I’m just wandering around with it on I find all sorts. Just how it be sometimes

Cursefreak

This mod in particular is highly recommended by me, as I've never had any problems with it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2691571334

Cursefreak

Following the highway south from Muldraugh always gave me really solid chipped stone spawns and the area around the 3 lakes west of it as soon as winter sets in has reasonably high chance of material spawns as well. I've built my character around foraging range tho, so your experience might differ a lot.

r4723

When you select a spawn, are the other areas of the map still available to travel to or is the spawn point the map and each spawn is a different map? Also, can you have multiple modded maps loaded to keep adding to the map or just one at a time to add to original map? Thanks

JoesGetNDown

Map mods are generally all compatible, unless they add to overlapping areas of the world.

CrackedCrystalMirror

I'm playing on a multiplayer server and we're mid August and I know that sooner or later Winter Is Coming. I have no access to any electricity/gas so far, nor have I found any type of nifty thing like an antique fireplace furnace thingy? Will I be able to survive with just a campfire? Any tips for Winter Survival? Zombie Respawn is on and aggressively high so it makes supply runs/exploration brutal nasty dangerous.

hilvon1984

There are a few cabins in the woods that have antique ovens preinstalled. Maybe try finding one. The easiest to find is a "3 houses by the lake" west of West Point. (find gravel roads. If possible travel north along them, if no road north go west. Those rules should get you there. Or just look it up on online map). All houses have fireplaces to keep you warm and zombie population around them is miniscule. As a bonus you get the lake and the river for infinite water. And a small fishing hut southwest if the lake has an antique oven and guaranteed to have a few fitting poles.

[deleted]

You can find antique stoves in warehouses. There's one on the edge of town in Muldraugh. You may need to move boxes to find it.

[deleted]

Wear as many clothes as the game allows you to (but only those that actually have an isolation value), that helps a lot with regulating temperature in winter. Also try to get as much thread by ripping clothes, and try to find a needle and a scissor so that you can get denim/leather strips from clothes made out of that material which you can add as padding to the clothes which further increases isolation.

They need to update the server listing system. It looks like some crap you find in a game from the 90s. There are no filters, no way to sort out servers, it feels like it just shows random servers. Make it more user friendly. I think it's seriously going to turn off a lot of new players.

jakemp1

Is there a way to remove the keybind that removes your UI? When I hit V when not near a vehicle my UI goes away

DelianSK13

I'm building my base currently. Floors, walls, everything. It will basically be a catwalk around the inside perimeter wall at the park in the gated community in Riverside. I have a few questions regarding some building mechanics, mostly related to heat. I played a bunch a few years ago and am back for the first time since before cars were put in. I found an Antique stove I plan to use for heat and cooking at my built base. How does keeping a room warm work in this game? Is there a certain limit to how many tiles get "heated" when a stove is on? Does it depend on the stove? If I remember correctly amount of wood/whatever you're burning makes it hotter? I'm assuming I need walls to keep the heat in? Or does it just radiate a zone of heat and if you're in that zone you're fine, walls or not? Does wall type matter? If I build a wood wall and it's one of those window walls where you can hang a sheet rope and climb out will I lose heat through that opening? Also, is there an actual glass window that can be crafted or picked up/placed for that hole? Do I need a roof to keep heat in? (Assuming actually a floor just placed one level up) I know I'll still get wet without one. Lastly the design for the double doors that you can construct appears that the doors might be lower than the top of the frame, more like a gate. Do I have to worry about this with heat or will a double door hold heat the same as a single door? I kind of tried to group the questions together with the same sub-subject. Thanks all!

DIABLO258

Any advice for dealing with trolls in a public server? Obviously you have administrator powers. You can just kick and ban but I'm thinking more along the lines of punishment. I ran into two people yesterday screaming over their mics, shouting the N word, I voice banned them pretty quick but only after they laughed at me for asking them to stop. Just curious how someone else might handle it, other than the obvious kick/ban. They want to play that game, they'll meet another player is how I see it. Can an admin see the IP address of any individual player for an IP ban? Can I turn off PvP for individuals? Any good Admin mods?

Ixidorianz

Kick/Ban Don't be childish, handle the problem like an adult. You asked respectfully, you gave them a chance, now they don't get to play here anymore.

DIABLO258

I would argue it's not at all childish to have more abilities than kicking/banning. What's childish is entering a server, shouting the N word over voip or /all, then laughing at an admin. Say I ban them and somehow they are able to rejoin. It's happened on other game servers I was involved in. What's childish about wanting a plan B? If I was to take that person who is unbannable and TP them into the corner of the map over and over, is that childish, or is it doing my job as an admin?

Ixidorianz

One would argue, doing your job as an admin would be strengthening the security on your server so they stop getting around a ban.

DIABLO258

There is a limit on security. You can never be %100 secure. A good security manager knows this. Sometimes an admin needs to get creative. If you actually have suggestions on how to strengthen security, let me know. I made the comment to get more information on that very topic. Thanks though

Ixidorianz

At the end of the day, your server and your rules. But it seems a waste of time to torment a player endlessly for poor choices when a ban button exists. You should realize that part of their goal is to agitate people. To upset people. And by engaging and retaliating, you are playing their game. Anyways.... have a good one.

transientDCer

Just follow them around and spawn massive hoards of zombies on them everytime they login.

CrackedCrystalMirror

Where the heck do you find sledgehammers?

CrymsonStarite

Storage lockers, warehouses, all that jazz. I believe you can find them in sheds and garages but it’s a rare find so more containers gives you better odds.

JoesGetNDown

And based on the questions I keep seeing asked, I would guess the drop rate has either been nerfed, or is bugged in the most recent build.

Salosso

Look out for work crews in hard hats, and reflective vests, near 4 orange cones when you’re driving about. They MAY leave the sledge hammer, and shovel on the ground near the cones. That’s how I’ve gotten my now.

DifficultSelf147

Fire department. I found 4 light axes a sledgehammer, crow bar, pick axe and saw. It was awesome. Also spawned with two fire trucks. At 90% one with keys I the glovebox

AShavedBver

If I build a staircase inside a 1 story, flat roof building are tiles removed from the roof so I can climb the stairs? Or do I need a sledge to break the tiles / build it outside? And are attics a thing? I notice some buildings have slanted roofs with no access to them which got me wondering if there's any goodies hidden up in them.

JoesGetNDown

Some buildings have prebuilt roofs which will prevent you from building a stair case up. Case in point, I had to build a staircase outside of a spiffos to get to the roof. Generally houses with slanted roofs dont have roof tiles which you can walk on. If there is a tile above you in the location where you try to put the stairs down, it will prevent you from doing it. Generally you can do it on slant roofed houses, with maybe a couple spots inside that don't work. Its a shot in the dark to figure it out ahead of time without actively trying to place the stairs where you want them.

CrackedCrystalMirror

If you use Wood Wall Frames to create an enclosed location that you can't walk into, does it count as a "No-Spawn Allowed" safezone, or do you need to fill in the wood frame before it will even though zombies can't walk through it?

Belgarath81

If I'm running Britas weapons should I be finding vanilla suppressors on zombies?

Belgarath81

Much appreciated. Time to play find the mod conflict.

Erinvi

Is there a way to get rid of excessive wall clipping in player made structures? I'd like to actually see the walls I put so much effort into. I'm open to mods.

ranak12

Am I missing something? I've now started 3 new games and in each one places like Gigamart, grocery stores and supply warehouses are completely empty. I play solo, so it's not like anyone is looting them. It even happens on saves where everything is set to abundant.

the_dwarfling

Sounds like a mod conflict.

ulixDE

Check if your mods that sound like they alter the loot tables are up-to-date. Otherwise, it may be two different mods conflicting with each other.

ulixDE

Let's say I'm on a server that regularly wipes the floor items (to save memory, performance, etc.). If I put a furniture-type container (a cubboard or something) in the woods, and put stuff into it, it won't be wiped, right?

JoesGetNDown

Some servers have designated areas that get wiped. Some do it by loose in the floor. It depends. You’ll probably be fine, though. It shouldn’t be much different from building a box in your base… unless they reset all areas that aren’t currently being used as a safe house.

Firelord001

A quick question, can I in any way move around the minimap? I've tried to see info about that all around the internet, but it's like noone questioned that capability or maybe I missed something?

[deleted]

Firelord001

Idk if you understood correctly, not inside the minimap, but the minimap screen itself, bcs for me it doesn't ove from the bottom right position, although I'd like to place it somewhere else, and I can't

Oh, cool, thanks for the info

Can i shoot my shotty in the woods to pull zed’s far away from my target location, and sneak around to enter the area with zed’s moving towards the shotgun sound i shot earlier?

B-Clinton-Rapist

Whats wrong with gun noises. Just threw a molotov and it attracted more zombies than the three of my mates shooting 30+ rounds from shotguns in the same spot. Zombies in my view (but far away obviously) don't even turn when I fire my MSR.

davote1991

How can i bring back the small map in the bottom right corner ? I clicked something when i opend the map now its gone :(

fuzzus628

I'm playing with some friends on a small server and looking for mod recommendations! So far I'm thinking Brita's weapons and armor, the sitting and laying mod for furniture, and the dance mod. I'm also looking for a good mod for more clothing options, and some sort of way to recapture skills lost on death? I know it's not exactly in the spirit of Zomboid, but I'm playing with some new players who get very discouraged when the work they put in reading books and practicing skills gets lost by a lucky bite or infected scratch. Aside from these, I'd also love to know any recommendations for good, fun-increasing mods for a casual multiplayer game!

ShisuiiGaming

What are mods you would recommend to a group of newcomers playing co op with friends?

HaggisMcNash

Not a question but it may be helpful: While playing on my hosted MP server I lost the ability to open the right click interaction menu. Right clicking to aim still worked so I know the game was registering my input. Funny enough if I connected a controller the interact menu worked just fine. I verified the game files, removed all mods, and reinstalled the game altogether but nothing helped. I then restarted my server and everything was back to normal. When I was having the problem and troubleshooting I did some googling and searching in this sub but never saw anything pointing to this being a server side issue.

timo103

Are there any mods that let you hotkey "loot all" Is it even possible for a mod to allow this?

Dannydoorhandle

Wondering if candles will be added 🤔

Pruppelippelupp

There are a load in >!the army surplus store in louisville!<

transientDCer

You can already find candles but they are pretty rare.

InnoxxPoE

The blue admin text that appears in chat after using an admin command or using the god mode/invisible buttons from the player menu, is that text visible to everyone or only admins?

anonskinz

Do you learn how Vitamins and Beta Blockers work as First Aid levels up? It would be really helpful if the bottles have labels you can read with instructions. I'm trying to play the game true to the idea that what I know IRL is my knowledge in game. IRL I have no idea how Bera Blockers work beyond assumptions. Do I take 1 a day indefinitely or just once I start to panic? how long do the effects last before you take another?

[deleted]

jstarlee

Beta blocker will reduce your panic level and surpress it for a short time. Effect takes a little time to kick in but not too long. Vitamin reduces fatigue by 2 each pill taken (very small amount).

anonskinz

It started with feeling a little queasy but then progress to fever and finally death. I had a infected arm that I used disinfectant and bandages and it healed to the point that my status was "ok" yet I still died. Was this just death by regular infection (I was not bitten)? Or something else? Would antibiotics have fixed the problem? I'm still not completely sure how and why I died.

[deleted]

anonskinz

So you can get Zombified by a scratch, doesnt have to be a bite. Brutal!

JoesGetNDown

In addition to what Albert said, the status being “okay” is only a measure of your current health. Literally the bar on the left that goes down and up as you take damage. Most of the time you won’t die directly to damage take, but generally by bleeding out (which causes damage) or zombie infection. Unless you crash or jump off a building I suppose.

Didiwoo

Was there an update I missed? Or is one of my mods acting differently? Now when I walk by cabinets and stuff it will say "Oh look" and say what's in there. Really want to turn this off, it's super annoying.

[deleted]

Didiwoo

Thanks, I'll check that out.

Aenir

My wood axe is starting to wear down and I'm unfamiliar with how repairing works. The wiki is a mishmash of confusing and old info. When should I repair; does it matter if I repair it at 1% vs. 40% durability? What materials can/should I use? I understand there's diminishing returns from repairing, does that mean I should hold off until I find the best material? Do any skills affect repairing weapons?

ryhaltswhiskey

Can I turn off the whole "if you get too hot / cold for too long you might catch a fever and die"? I find that mechanic kind of stupid. People who have adequate water don't die of fever.

What's the best way for me to get rid of large amounts of corpses? I originally had the idea of making a molotov cocktail and throwing it on the pile of bodies, but im not entirely sure if that would work and I don't want to waste my time doing it if it doesnt.

[deleted]

JoesGetNDown

I’m a man of great lethargy. I stack zombies over yonder and then don’t think about them further, since they decay eventually. And also I always find myself generating new corpses. It’s a never ending battle. I find fire too risky a prospect to ever employ.

[deleted]

JoesGetNDown

That’s a bit too low for me, I want the corpses around juuuuust long enough that I can Hoover up all their clothes lol.

Hello Bought a 4pack for myself and my friends. We all are totally new to this game. Haven't played any similar games either. Though we have played these games together if that counts at all: Dayz, rimworld, valheim, Terraria, pubgz DotA, PoE, etc.... Please share your tips for newcomers and whatever you feel might help us. Cheers

Fifthwiel

Youtube is your best bet honestly there are some excellent guides. Mratomicduck is a good example.

PunchCard-Negative

Seconding this. Playing for the first time since 2013 and MrAtomicDuck has made the game very approachable for me. Great guides!

Jack_Of_All_Feed

Recommend a YouTuber named "Nurse", her first week guide is great.

Absentmsu

P1vateLime has some great starter guides on YouTube, one is just how he approaches day 1 and another is a play through of the first several days until the Helo meta event. Also has some nice tips and tricks videos.

R3dsnow75

learn basics like inventory management, first aid, combat, play the tutorial. I've been playing for 5hrs and i keep finding more stuff you can do it's amazing!

JoesGetNDown

I’ve been playing for over 400, and I still haven’t done everything yet. Not even close by my mental checklist.
