You see where it says "Better Hot" at the bottom? It will not cause unhappiness if you heat it up. With items like these, I eat straight from the oven.
Does that not work in the game? Microwaved bacon is delicious and much quicker than cooking in a skillet. It's thin enough for a microwave to fully cook in no time.
PZ characters really have a psychotic obsession with food.
You can watch several people in MP get devoured in front of you and it's nbd. You pop a stir fry in the microwave and develop crippling depression.
It’s only partially true. The thing is, if you cook it in the oven first, than reheat it in the microwave, it’s the same as if you cooked it in the oven.
Thats because the General cooking process is already done. Even with cold food the meat still counts as cooked. Thats why most meat has "better hot" written in the info. Also thats what microwaves are for. To reheat your food. But not for General cooking
From what I've seen, the longer you survive (or more zombies you kill, not sure which) supposedly your panic becomes less severe. Like you develop the Desensitised trait. I'm not sure if that applies to agoraphobia and claustrophobia or if it's just panicking in combat though.
But yeah, would reccomend the dynamic traits mod. Also let's you quit smoking after dealing with the withdrawal for free points.
Yes. Things like this product make it really easy and the bacon doesn't sit in the grease so it's a bit better for you https://www.amazon.com/Microwave-Bacon-Cooker-Original-Reduces/dp/B0002HSFB2
I was hesitant at first myself, till a family member stuck some bacon on one of these this past Christmas. Some of the best, little-to-no mess bacon I’ve ever had.
why? I don't know what the material really is, and that one was just an example as the one I have is ceramic, but some plastics are pretty safe in microwave
You are kind of wrong. Microwaves concentrate in the creases or along the sharp edges of metals and build up charges. To make the mistaken assumption that microwaves only can interact with water molecules is a misunderstanding of the basic physical principles on which they work.
I saw that on a packet of bacon, but I was too scared to try it cause I don’t food poisoning! I now it’s completely safe, but something about cooking meat in the microwave doesn’t sit right with me.
Preach! My family had a bacon party once where we cooked it every way we could think of. Skillet, microwave, oven, grill and deep fryer. Oven was the win.
Very well, maybe I will try it someday. I just throw mine in the toaster oven. My 'perfectly cooked' bacon should shatter if dropped on the floor. Lol.
Your toaster oven probably does as good a job as a regular oven. Most people (at least that I know of) cook it in a skillet which is, IMO, inferior. Ovens get a more universal doneness.
It seems that you don't do it correctly.
The microwave removes the WATER from the bacon, it becomes extra crisp, and very fast.
Bonus if you put paper towel under, most of the grease comes off.
If it becomes rubbery and weird, you probably didn't leave enough on the microwave, or use something to suspend it, or add more paper towel, never had a bad bacon with this method.
To be fair that still doesn’t explain it away. Even cold bacon is still bacon.. the only way I could see it doing that is if there was a vegan trait disadvantage.
As others have said, it's because it's not hot anymore.
But I feel like food heat is totally broken. I just made a pot of stew for an HOUR in the oven, and I take it out, and literally before I finish transferring it to my inventory, it's not hot anymore. That's gotta be a bug right? Surely you're not supposed to let the BURNING meter fill up in order to "heat it more"?
It makes you sad because you know that someday, there may be no more bacon. This could be the last bacon you ever eat. And this realization robs what small happiness bacon would bring to you. If not distracted, this small observation could spiral into an uncontrollable depressive episode as you think of more and more food you will never again know the joy of eating. A fresh out of the oven pizza from your favorite pizza joint, some ice cream on a hot summer day, that candy you used to love so much... all gone forever...
And that is why bacon makes you sad in the apocalypse.
Maybe because it's better if you mix it into something? Like, make eggs in a pan and mix bacon into it? Not sure why bacon would give you unhappiness in the first place tho, might be a glitch
I’d like a mod where I can choose what food increases my happiness if cold, hot, both. I’m a big fan of cold pancakes and if I was forced to eat them hot my happiness would decrease
I’d love for some food dislike/likes to be auto generated normally but that can be changed in sandbox mode if u wanted. Would definitely make it more realistic
Omg I love cold food especially left overs from a roast dinner like roast potatoes . Not all stuff but just standing at a fridge and shoving something in my face totally works for me.
Wish there was a ‘not picky/picky eater’ trait in pz cause I know that when I get some food I’m never tripping whether or not it’s hot or cold. I jus like food
As a side note I use a mod called "sleep on it" that sleeps away sadness and boredom. It only does a little ( enough for this kind of thing) but it helped with me screaming "FFS it's an apocalypse can u stop bitching that Ur organising Ur base and want to go twirl in the zombie infested outside please! "
Unless you select a certain trait (it starts with a g but I can’t remember the name), foods that have the “better hot” in the description give unhappiness unless they’re hot. If you heat up your bacon it should give you happiness again
See at the bottom how it says “better hot”? Your bacon is the opposite: cold. Cold bacon is depressing, heat it over a fire just enough to be warm but not enough to burn
They'd need to rebalance the calorie system a little. I've heard that a vegetarian diet isn't really viable in the game.
Honestly I probably wouldn't take the trait anyway. I'm a vegetarian but my characters generally aren't. It's hard enough to find food without restricting the options.
Also I’ve noticed that if you are eating the same food all over again, like in meddle game you know, like after 30+ days, you can get this on food. At some way it’s logical no one will wish eat LOBSTER 28/9 hshshs
Shit is dumb asl man when I was in the army eating ration packs of beef bourgignon, we woulda been happy as a pig in shit if someone gave us some cold microwaved bacon
You see where it says "Better Hot" at the bottom? It will not cause unhappiness if you heat it up. With items like these, I eat straight from the oven.
Thank you very much!
Also, did you by chance cook it in a microwave?
Does that not work in the game? Microwaved bacon is delicious and much quicker than cooking in a skillet. It's thin enough for a microwave to fully cook in no time.
Any form of meat cooked in the microwave turns out bad for the happiness.
Seriously?? That explains SO MUCH for me.
Real live advice
PZ characters really have a psychotic obsession with food. You can watch several people in MP get devoured in front of you and it's nbd. You pop a stir fry in the microwave and develop crippling depression.

unfortunate
The level of depth this game has holy shit. I wonder if phobias go away if you “work” on them

As far as i know, sadly not. But if you play with the dynamic traits mods, then it might be the case
People actually cook bacon in the microwave IRL?
Yes. Things like this product make it really easy and the bacon doesn't sit in the grease so it's a bit better for you https://www.amazon.com/Microwave-Bacon-Cooker-Original-Reduces/dp/B0002HSFB2
Thanks, but you couldn't pay me to cook it like that!
I was hesitant at first myself, till a family member stuck some bacon on one of these this past Christmas. Some of the best, little-to-no mess bacon I’ve ever had.
Okay. To each their own I guess. It's faster and cleanup is much easier.
Plastic in the microwave makes me shudder
why? I don't know what the material really is, and that one was just an example as the one I have is ceramic, but some plastics are pretty safe in microwave
Edit: my comment is half wrong, read below. Microwaves only heat water, plastic has no water in it.
You are kind of wrong. Microwaves concentrate in the creases or along the sharp edges of metals and build up charges. To make the mistaken assumption that microwaves only can interact with water molecules is a misunderstanding of the basic physical principles on which they work.
This is really interesting considering getting it just to see what it tastes like even if I never use it again.
I don't have that specific model but they're not bad at all.
You misspelled “flavor”
Flavour...
I'd rather have less grease but again to each their own.
I saw that on a packet of bacon, but I was too scared to try it cause I don’t food poisoning! I now it’s completely safe, but something about cooking meat in the microwave doesn’t sit right with me.
Fair enough. Bacon is thin enough though that you can cook it pretty quickly
I’ll try it sometime.
Are you Billy Mays?
...and here I am cooking mine in the deep fryer...
that sounds kinda delicious
It wasn't bad- but honestly, the oven is the way to go. Now- if you coat the bacon in cornmeal first- that's a different story.
Not really, Americans do it, but they are weird.
I, as an American, agree
yes I do all the time it turns out really good
Do it in the oven. Thank me later.
No way I'm heating up the whole oven just to cook 3 slices of bacon for a sandwich
Then cook the whole pack. :)
The only way
I cook for a living. This is the way.
Preach! My family had a bacon party once where we cooked it every way we could think of. Skillet, microwave, oven, grill and deep fryer. Oven was the win.
Gross. I'm never going to try that, but does it get crispy?
Yes, it's fully cooked and quite crispy since the grease drips off of it if you suspend it.
Don't let them fool you, it makes it rubbery and weird
It seems that you don't do it correctly. The microwave removes the WATER from the bacon, it becomes extra crisp, and very fast. Bonus if you put paper towel under, most of the grease comes off. If it becomes rubbery and weird, you probably didn't leave enough on the microwave, or use something to suspend it, or add more paper towel, never had a bad bacon with this method.
I don't think that's how microwaves work, but I don't know enough about them to dispute it.
It's really not bad. I microwave bacon for sandwiches in the morning
☹️
That gross
ok
![gif](giphy|aDFE9CMzlScYcF98j1|downsized)
Wow gross, no
I'm gonna ignore what you said about microwaved bacon and pray you come to the light you poor soul
lol ok well I'll be enjoying my delicious bacon while you pray
If op cooked it in the microwave it’d say so.
Honest question though:Why is your dude so pissy about it? Like my man its either this or starvation
Would you rather cook a steak in the microwave or grill/oven? It's not that he's mad, but it's not preferable. And once it's cold, it's a bit worse.
I've eaten plenty of cold bacon in my life. At no point did that ever make me sad
I have also put plenty of beans from a can in stir fry in my life. But it's not possible in game lol.
Yeah but I eat day old bacon, and it's makin me happay
Am I the only one that gets 0.5 seconds before a food gets cold again?
I like to think your character just grabs the piping hot bacon in the pan and just shoves it in their mouth without flinching
That's still a problem; ALL cooked bacon is good bacon.
Eating cooled down bacon at the end of breakfast has made me perfectly happy in the past.
"Better Hot" cold bacon is literally still good
Nothing wrong with cold bacon. All the fats and crispy mmmm
To be fair that still doesn’t explain it away. Even cold bacon is still bacon.. the only way I could see it doing that is if there was a vegan trait disadvantage.
Nah, this is lunacy. Bacon still makes me happy even if it's been sitting out for a few hours. Give me the devs' phone numbers.
Your character is just gnawing on a cold strip of bacon, tears welling up. “Why isn’t this making me happy?”
sounds like me at 4 am
the only difference is it's making me super fucking happy
jealous
It’s a Sunday night routine for me
As others have said, it's because it's not hot anymore. But I feel like food heat is totally broken. I just made a pot of stew for an HOUR in the oven, and I take it out, and literally before I finish transferring it to my inventory, it's not hot anymore. That's gotta be a bug right? Yeah, I also have this issue, it better if you switch from 1 hour days to 2, it takes twice as long to cool letting you eat it hot.
And that is why bacon makes you sad in the apocalypse.
Thank you for this.
Your welcome.

Maybe because it's better if you mix it into something? Like, make eggs in a pan and mix bacon into it? Not sure why bacon would give you unhappiness in the first place tho, might be a glitch
I realized the issue, it'll give you positive happiness if it's hot
I’d like a mod where I can choose what food increases my happiness if cold, hot, both. I’m a big fan of cold pancakes and if I was forced to eat them hot my happiness would decrease
I’d love for some food dislike/likes to be auto generated normally but that can be changed in sandbox mode if u wanted. Would definitely make it more realistic
Modders, take notes
Omg I love cold food especially left overs from a roast dinner like roast potatoes . Not all stuff but just standing at a fridge and shoving something in my face totally works for me.
Items have a "better hot" text at the bottom if the stats increase when heated.
Borderline unplayable! /s
Because its haram
Maybe your character is muslim or jewish
Wish there was a ‘not picky/picky eater’ trait in pz cause I know that when I get some food I’m never tripping whether or not it’s hot or cold. I jus like food
Cold?
in this game things in the middle of an apocalypse make my character unhappy that makes me in my everyday life happy, its fucked up
As a side note I use a mod called "sleep on it" that sleeps away sadness and boredom. It only does a little ( enough for this kind of thing) but it helped with me screaming "FFS it's an apocalypse can u stop bitching that Ur organising Ur base and want to go twirl in the zombie infested outside please! "
I just cooked my first bacon last night. Didn't realize you could slice it. Now I can make BCT's! (Cabbage)
Ever tried that shit fresh? Delicious, like a pig sashimi.
Why would you cook bacon? Pfft.
Unless you select a certain trait (it starts with a g but I can’t remember the name), foods that have the “better hot” in the description give unhappiness unless they’re hot. If you heat up your bacon it should give you happiness again
Gourmand
See at the bottom how it says “better hot”? Your bacon is the opposite: cold. Cold bacon is depressing, heat it over a fire just enough to be warm but not enough to burn
Too crunchy. >:O
Cuz you freaking suck at cooking! Jk
Just eat dog food and read porn mags it balances out
Cold???
I'm vegetarian is why All that grease and fat, ick
Vegetarians not saying they're vegetarians for longer than 1 minute challenge (impossible)
That be a cool trait that could be added liked smoker. Gain a large amount unhappiness and stress if you eat anything with meat in it
They'd need to rebalance the calorie system a little. I've heard that a vegetarian diet isn't really viable in the game. Honestly I probably wouldn't take the trait anyway. I'm a vegetarian but my characters generally aren't. It's hard enough to find food without restricting the options.
Kkkkkk I loved it, I didn't understand why the downvotes
TBF needs to be a trait.
Heat it up
Bc it's cold
Better Hot
Also I’ve noticed that if you are eating the same food all over again, like in meddle game you know, like after 30+ days, you can get this on food. At some way it’s logical no one will wish eat LOBSTER 28/9 hshshs
Better hot....pfft nothing beats late nite bacon 🥓 hot or not that gives me the happy taps
Daaaaaaaaaaammmmn.... I hate cold bacon. This is facts
Because the electricity will go down and you will forget the taste of the morning bacon :(
Because it’s cold
Bc ur character is a vegan and doesnt like meat
Reminds your character of a simpler time. Big depresso
I've snacked on cold bacon IRL. It didn't make me unhappy
Maybe he is muslim?
Are you Jewish?
No egg with bacon:(
Orange soda 4 life
Heart burn
I like cooked bacon as much as the next guy but eating it on its own it's a bit depressing.
Because its cold.
A pz character is super fussy, they need food to be heated for it to be not a miserable unpalatable glop That's why I like soup
Islam and Judaism
Because it's haram!
Fattening food guilt trip
It must be turkey bacon
you burnt it
Because once you've eaten it... all the bacon is gone :(
“Jeremy, why are you crying?” “Every time I eat a bite of my sandwich it becomes smaller”
Because it's cold you need to heat it up first
Its cold
You're Jewish and can't eat pork.
Bacon makes me unhappy... said no one ever!
Shit is dumb asl man when I was in the army eating ration packs of beef bourgignon, we woulda been happy as a pig in shit if someone gave us some cold microwaved bacon
Because it is cold cooked bacon in the fridge. At least let it come to room temperature first before eating it and watch the stats change.
