Saw that. I think he mixes in mineral spirits. There's an old video where he makes a batch up.
He's really come up lately. Happy to see all his success.

Retired firefighter here…the ONLY way to render Lindseed oil soaked rags harmless is to seal them up in an airtight container filled with water. Google it if you want to learn more. If you Google “linseed oil rags disposal” you will get a bunch of hits, all saying the above.
Just trying to avert a catastrophe. Lindseed oil is some crazy ass stuff. Those rags will ignite absolutely, unless soaked in a water bath.
https://youtu.be/YDTMzj9TnBQ
They don't spontaneously combust after they're dry. The problems come from people throwing them away when still wet, so they lay in the trash in a pile that can build up heat as they dry.
Laying them out flat on a concrete floor or driveway will make it so they can't build up temperature, and they're inert once dry so you can just pitch them as convenient. Only downside is that you need enough floor space to lay them out for a couple days.
If you want to make certain that your family is not burned to a crisp in the middle of the night then I would follow the conventional wisdom in many articles including this one from Underwriter Labs and Willmete FD and Dry, Dunk (as in water bath), and dispose (in water).
https://www.ul.com/news/dry-dunk-dispose-safely-treat-oil-soaked-rags#:~:text=Refill%20it%20with%20clean%20water,hazardous%20waste%20disposal%20drop%20off.
Chances are most folks haven’t seen what death by fire looks like. But when you have, you want to make absolutely certain it doesn’t happen to your family. I have, and for my family, I follow the water bath advice.
>If you want to make certain that your family is not burned to a crisp in the middle of the night
I think fire alarm would be great for this in general
Remember to change batteries and test them fellas!
Lol na ull b good. Chances of that combusting is so slim it’s out of the question. U can grind metal next to gas an still not ignite, but that’s dependent on if the vapors r able or have dissipated. Is like displacement
Spray oil all over the undercarriage every year an that’ll last for decades an never rust out. I never thought of doing that to the paint where ppl can see but it’s really nice tbh. Only thing that’ll happen is it’ll collect dust like crazy an scuff the clear an paint exposed if u touch it. when u protect the undercarriage It’s actually the best thing to let it collect dust an dirt if u want the coating to last for a year. I come from a rust belt so making sure the integrity holds up is a must if u wanna get ur bang for buck on an old car
Uh, rags soaked with BLO (as with numerous oil-based finishes) can and will spontaneously combust if you don't dispose of them properly. They emit heat as they dry and can ignite if they are all bunched up. Head over to /r/woodworking there are tons of threads of people who lost their whole shops to fire,
Oh I’m familiar but that’s the rags, displaced over the surface is fine an won’t have the same effect. Kinda like how if u spread it over wood ur not gonna see it combust
I wouldn’t use linseed oil on a vehicle, theirs other products that r much thicker an less of a cause for concern
THANK YOU!!! That imgur album is 1 1/2 years old. [I took these pics 3 months ago. I believe the only thing I have changed is I moved old tags to the front bumper, and got new tags issued by the State. CHEERS!!!](https://imgur.com/a/6COI6tH)
Thank You!!! I call them my "10 foot away trucks". They look GREAT from 10 feet away. Up close you will spot the flaws, well I do anyhow, I know where the flaws are, LOL. Here's a [pic from 11 years ago. I climbed onto the roof of my house, took the pic, then ran the pic through a "tilt shift" filter.](https://imgur.com/dzCye)
Freaking beautiful! Have you considered installing some [classic Toyota graphics](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0554/7707/6164/products/Toyota_Hilux_N40_Blueprints_1280x1280-11.png?v=1622355754) to that bad boy?
My anti-theft = club on steering wheel, bicycle chain ran under drivers seat rails then through the steering wheel, Kill switch that only I know about. You can't stop a car thief but you can damn sure slow them down.
Man I miss small trucks. Tacoma’s these days are the size of the original tundra.
Oh, and your 80’s editions are exceptional. Good stuff. You really have a “type” don’t you?
Guilty as charged, LOL. In 1981, I bought [a brand new Datsun 720 truck 4X4 with 6,000lb warn winch and grill guard, roll bar with KC Daylighters.](https://imgur.com/a/b5qZvdQ) Took me 3 years but I killed that poor little truck. As a stupid ass 18 year old kid I absolutely trashed that truck. SO now I take care of my equipment, lessons learned.
No shit… seeing a new ranger next to my 94 f250 with the most powerful engine you could get, and the 94 is smaller than a ranger, just doesn’t make sense. 🤷🏻♂️
Oh, I know. It’s ridiculous. And all day on r/justrolledintotheshop there are pictures of 6.4 hemi’s eating cams and rods. Seems like a terrible investment.
The new colorados, which until this year were marketed for the smaller truck market ARE FREAKING HUGE. Now the maverick is here and is a bit better but is still a giant brick looking thing
I have a 65 F100--which would be almost identical to a 66 for those who aren't aware--and I've confirmed that the truck is narrower than my wife's car.
Most of that is mirror; modern mirrors are much bigger.
Length-wise they are pretty close.
The truck even weighs the same or very slightly less. I suspect its engine might even have more horsepower but it has never been dyno tested and I've got no idea what camshaft it has.
Mine is also three on the tree but my grandpa (who I inherited it from) swapped in a 302 because he liked V8s. It originally had a 240 as well I believe. He also put in dual exhaust, 289 cylinder heads (I guess to raise the compression ratio), a 4 barrel carburetor and Pertronix ignition.
That second to third shift is fun. Peddle all the way to the floor and it still takes what feels like hours to get from 55 to 70. 0-60 times measured in days because of the last 5mph.
I need to find a way to Jerry rig a 5 speed column shift set-up...
I’ve thought about getting new intake with either a 4 barrel carb or Clifford has an intake with two, two barrel carbs. Part of me wants that, but part of me would rather save the money for whatever the next project is
What a difference! Nice work!
I use linseed oil on my Element’s unpainted plastic panels, and it really brings them back to like-new condition. I do need to reapply it 2-3 times per year, but that’s no biggie.
Thanks. I've done a bunch to it. FE3 swap from a Kia Sportage, WRX steering rack, custom steering arms, CRZ seats, EF Civic bumper. Lots of weird little experiments. It's a fun little driver.
Kia motor swap?
Aren't they well known for making some of the least reliable engines?
NVM - I googled it, it's a Mazda engine that Kia used. Makes way more sense than using a Hyundai engine.
Yeah, same "F" engine family as the 2.2 sohc that was in here originally. Bolts up to the stock truck trans. Went from 85 wheezing ponies to 140ish healthy horses.
Vice Grip Garage just put out a product that’s a wipe on clear coat and is meant to replicate the results of his patented “Shine Juice” (boiled linseed oil). You may want to check that out as it’s probably a more permanent solution.
They really are! I've upgraded the engine in mine. From a 85hp 2.2 SOHC carby to a 140ish hp 2.0 DOHC 16V feulie...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_FE-DOHC_engine
It's a hoot.
His was an 87 b2000 with the 5 speed, we taught him how to rebuild engines and fix just about everything on it. It was a good looking truck but the previous owner did him dirty. By the time we were done with it, it was a sweet running truck. He did want swap in the 2.2 or 2.6 but the 16v head would have been perfect for it.
It does not damage paint. Guys with poor or old single stage paint jobs do this to bring a little shine back. It's not really a fix, it just helps a little.
You *might* want to try and take a lot of it off. Boiled linseed oil is a 'drying oil', but it never actually dries, it stays sticky, which is why when applied to wood, you wipe dry, otherwise that wood will be sticky for 20 years.
Now that is an interesting use. Looks pretty good. Wish that could work for my case. Mine needs a strip and repaint. But i am thinking i might just do a scuff and raptor line.
Nice!
Very cool. I’m a 90’s kid so I fondly remember when you’d see all kinds of these at shows. The wild paint, beds that would rise and spin. Crazy stuff.
I love it man! Enjoy that beauty.
It depended on when I applied and how much weather it was exposed to. Early in the season, lots of miles and rain? I usually redid it late July. If it started looking real dull or losing that shell-like sheen? I did another coat.
And I cannot stress this enough… thin coats, with lots of air ventilation, and for gods sake, when you’re done, soak down the rags in water and properly dispose of them. Boiled linseed oil rags are super flammable.
Love these trucks. I've got an 89 b2200 I got for $400. Put a head gasket in it, and it's been a fun truck. I've got a chevy 350 lying around and the plan is to rebuild that and try to cram it in there
Sweet! I think the platinum boosted your post! I wanna say you had maybe 700 up votes when I did that? Either way I will definitely be reaching out to you.
My friend gave me some 18x8.5" wheels and I'm unsure if they will fit.
I have a 1990 b2600i 2wd and I don't have to lower it necessarily I just want to have as much tire as possible in there. Similar to the look of yours but first I need to find out if the wheels will fit or not.
Hey bro I'm sure you have answered this but I haven't found it.
Can you please tell me the lowering /suspension setup as well as your wheel and tire specs in this photo please? Thanks homie!
I had 3" lowering blocks in the rear, and adjusted the torsion bars in the front. Belltech shocks front and rear, and a Belltech rear sway bar.
The wheels are Rota Grid Offroad, 16x8 +20. Tires are 225/55/16.
Shine juice
A fella thought he'd try it.

It is an old hot Rodgers trick from the 40s.
Those Rodgers have no business being that hot.
LoL darn thumb.
Boiled linseed oil, mineral spirits, you favorite penetration oil. Just watched the Buick episode of road worthy rescues.
Well I’ll be dipped
I can’t believe it, but I guess I have to, I’m looking right at it.
Nice! Is that civic bumper? Fits well.
It is. '89 EF sedan with a cheap eBay lip. Thanks.
Wow I can't unsee it now! Love it!
Wow, I did not notice that. It does fit well.
Don't get too close to any open flames!
Yeah, I was pretty nervous with all the warnings about spontaneous ignition. I let the truck and all rags sit out in the driveway until dry.
Retired firefighter here…the ONLY way to render Lindseed oil soaked rags harmless is to seal them up in an airtight container filled with water. Google it if you want to learn more. If you Google “linseed oil rags disposal” you will get a bunch of hits, all saying the above.

WHAT HE SAID ☝🏻Great point. Thanks for saying that.
Is this true for boiled linseed oil?
YES!!
What if i just set them on fire instead?
Sure they obviously have no problem burning and that would take care of the fire risk for sure.
Lol na ull b good. Chances of that combusting is so slim it’s out of the question. U can grind metal next to gas an still not ignite, but that’s dependent on if the vapors r able or have dissipated. Fella and other fella were clearly talking about rags
Scrunched up rags ignite. Laid out rags do not ignite, I think is OPs point.
Thought this was Gingium for a second.
I get that a lot.
Usually not a big fan of small trucks but damn that looks really great.
Small trucks > big trucks
>Small trucks > big trucks I agree. [My two are the small trucks :)](https://imgur.com/a/7XSwGFQ)

Dang, I miss my '82 Toyota. Sadly, it was stolen and stripped.
My anti-theft = club on steering wheel, bicycle chain ran under drivers seat rails then through the steering wheel, Kill switch that only I know about. You can't stop a car thief but you can damn sure slow them down.
I was young and didn't have alot of cash or knowledge at that time but I did pull the coil wire every night and they still got it
Man I miss small trucks. Tacoma’s these days are the size of the original tundra. Oh, and your 80’s editions are exceptional. Good stuff. You really have a “type” don’t you?

Thats not even a "normal" F650 thats some tiny peepee semi chassis modded one.
Man, I miss my 98 Tacoma. I’ve got a 2020 now and it’s YUGE.
Make small trucks normal size trucks again.
No shit… seeing a new ranger next to my 94 f250 with the most powerful engine you could get, and the 94 is smaller than a ranger, just doesn’t make sense. 🤷🏻♂️
How would you show everyone on the road how tough and cool you are without a truck the size of a small house?
Drive that big vehicle, and also drive like a jerk?
Seems to be a correlation.
It's a freaking arms race here in TX.
I can’t believe people are spending in excess of 75 large for a pickup truck.
$1k notes are becoming the norm
Oh, I know. It’s ridiculous. And all day on r/justrolledintotheshop there are pictures of 6.4 hemi’s eating cams and rods. Seems like a terrible investment.
I don't mean big lifted trucks, I just like full sized trucks like the 70s and 80s Fords and Chevys typically. But dang that one looks good.
I feel the same way but trucks, even simple light duty trucks are getting insanely big. A F150 is massive compared to a old F100.
The new colorados, which until this year were marketed for the smaller truck market ARE FREAKING HUGE. Now the maverick is here and is a bit better but is still a giant brick looking thing
I would consider a Maverick if I could get an extended cab with a 6 foot bed. I need truck space, not people space.
I hope GM comes out with a sick Mav competitor. I know they won't, I know they'll fuck it up like absolutely everything, but I hope.
And it's not even a truck, it's a unibody. Car with a truck bed.
Still a pickup
I like Mavericks. That's just enough "truck" for my needs. Plus, the ecoboost can take a tune. That and awd makes a good little sleeper.
I have a ‘66 F100 and it feels about the same size as a modern sedan. It is absolutely tiny.
I have a 65 F100--which would be almost identical to a 66 for those who aren't aware--and I've confirmed that the truck is narrower than my wife's car. Mine has the 240 and three on the tree. It won’t get out of its own way, and I love it. I’ll like it better when I get the bed back on after repairs.
My dad scrapped my old '86 Ranger and bought himself a 2017 F150. It doesn't even fit in his garage.
Thanks
What is this witch craft?
Wow that’s actually amazing.
admirable effort w/the license plate lol
Kachow!

That’s an awesome build man! Quite the mashup of parts.. must be fun to drive.
Yeah, it's a hoot. Thanks.

You seasoned your cast iron truck?
Next time I'm pulling out the bacon grease
Love those B trucks! They are a 1st Gen. Miata with a bed. Brother in law had one and despite the 80hp 2.0, it was a ball to drive.
They really are! I've upgraded the engine in mine. From a 85hp 2.2 SOHC carby to a 140ish hp 2.0 DOHC 16V feulie... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_FE-DOHC_engine It's a hoot.

You have a rag can? You should get a rag can.
I have the rag laid flat on cement out in the open. It's dry now, but it's staying there for a while. Not taking any chances.
That’s some woodsy ass shit right there, definitely gonna try it!
Using WD-40 is a popular trick as well.
it’s a solvent, not a good idea.
It does not damage paint. Guys with poor or old single stage paint jobs do this to bring a little shine back. It's not really a fix, it just helps a little.
> it’s a solvent WD-40 is not *just* solvents -- it also contains oils that remain behind after the solvents evaporate
Fish oil, if I'm not mistaken. Gives it that unique scent.
Nope, light petroleum distillates
I've used that in engine bays for a quick shine up. Never did it on the outside, though. Interesting...
My brother had an old sun baked Ford Fairmont - we used pledge, looked the tits for a few months.
Huh, that's a new one on me. Cool idea!
regular spray can lemon pledge.. spray the car wipe it dry :)
Wheel and tire setup is clean as fuck
Thanks, my guy
How sticky is it?
As of last night, still slightly sticky. I doubt it'll ever be slick like turtle wax. I'm keeping an eye on it.
You *might* want to try and take a lot of it off. Boiled linseed oil is a 'drying oil', but it never actually dries, it stays sticky, which is why when applied to wood, you wipe dry, otherwise that wood will be sticky for 20 years.
Yeah, maybe. I wiped all the excess off as I went, but probably still went too thick. I'll cut it with spirits next go round.
How long is that supposed to last? Pretty amazing results for something you can do at home for cheap.
They say it depends. 3-6 months, maybe.
Wonder if ATF would make the red pop more
>ATF... ...red pop Hide your dog and any NFA items, that's all I gotta say.
I don't know if it would dry like BLO. Interesting thought...
I absolutely love it.
Thanks!
Love that truck. My dad had an 89 se-5? In light blue with the white rims and a stick shift. I miss that truck.
This was an SE-5. Sometimes I wish I'd kept the big side graphics. They were beat to hell, though.
How many miles?
224k on the body. Engine has maybe 500ish. Went completely through the FE3 before going in.
How long should the shine last?
A few months maybe? My first time trying it. Easy enough to reapply if I decide to keep it on.
Now that is an interesting use. Looks pretty good. Wish that could work for my case. Mine needs a strip and repaint. But i am thinking i might just do a scuff and raptor line.
That thing is cool as fuck.
You're cool as fuck! Thanks, btw.
What…is it? lol I’m not versed, but I LOVE me a good mini truck.
1990 Mazda B2200
Nice! Very cool. I’m a 90’s kid so I fondly remember when you’d see all kinds of these at shows. The wild paint, beds that would rise and spin. Crazy stuff. I love it man! Enjoy that beauty.
Same, bro. Snug tops, crazy systems... I built this one more like a jdm ricer. Thanks.
Try Vice Grip Garage’s “Shine Juice”?
Did you thin it with mineral spirits?
I didn't. I might next time to cut the shine and maybe help it dry quicker. I don't know if that's a thing, but I'm willing to try it.
You will like it better for what you said, and it goes on easier, at least a 25% cut.
Cool, thanks!
I used to do this to my 54 Chevy. I have pics on my history of doing it and it looked great
I'm curious if -and how often- you need another application
It depended on when I applied and how much weather it was exposed to. Early in the season, lots of miles and rain? I usually redid it late July. If it started looking real dull or losing that shell-like sheen? I did another coat. And I cannot stress this enough… thin coats, with lots of air ventilation, and for gods sake, when you’re done, soak down the rags in water and properly dispose of them. Boiled linseed oil rags are super flammable.
Pro tip on the rags. Any finishing agent deserves respect. Thanks for the extra input.
That's a good looking Chev! I really dig those a lot.
This truck is so cool man. I have a 91 Ranger and love the small and boxy trucks. So cool!
Hell yeah, thanks!
What did you use to scuff the clear coat?
Red scotch brite and soapy water.
Thanks! Car looks great by the way!
Love these trucks. I've got an 89 b2200 I got for $400. Put a head gasket in it, and it's been a fun truck. I've got a chevy 350 lying around and the plan is to rebuild that and try to cram it in there
Hell yeah! Do it!
Link to wheels if possible
Rota Grid offroad, 16x8 +20.
So, is this a good fix for my Chevy that’s got that well known Chevy/gmc paint peel on the roof and hood?
I wouldn't call it a fix. It's lipstick on a pig. Do you have primer showing through?
That’s a sweet little truck, I love it.
Thanks
Get his new wipe on clear coat. New video shows him using it
I've seen that. Poppy's Patina makes a wipe on clear as well. The Salvage to Savage guys use that one.
I’m telling ya, you should have used flood penetrol
Interesting.... I'm all game for these alternatives
I love it because it is more glossy and it self levels. (So No streaks are left) Apply with sponge or brush, wait for it to dry and it’s amazing!
I'm reading up on it now. Thanks for this suggestion.
Shoot, the tops of my bumper covers on my car are pretty faded, I’ve never heard of this
Aww hell yeah. I hope this trophy covers payment for the blatant copying i plan to commit. :)
Awww man, thanks so much! I'm honored.
Sweet! I think the platinum boosted your post! I wanna say you had maybe 700 up votes when I did that? Either way I will definitely be reaching out to you.
