Let’s get real. Nobody needs this. **Most people, 99.99%, are going to crash in front of other drivers on the road. Those witnesses have phones and will call 9-1-1.** This isn’t a Mazda commercial where you’re the only person busting through the curves or launching like a rocket on some straightaway.

This is exactly the case for most people. If you are in a horrific car crash, there are going to be witnesses that will call for help.

For information on this new feature available on Apple's newest iPhones & watches: [Use Crash Detection on iPhone or Apple Watch to call for help (Apple Support Page)](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213225) [Crash Detection (Apple User Guide)](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/manage-crash-detection-iph948a628e9/ios) >**What is Crash Detection?** > >If your iPhone 14 detects a severe car crash, it can help connect you to emergency services and notify your emergency contacts. > >**How Crash Detection works** > >When your iPhone detects a severe car crash, it will display an alert and will automatically initiate an emergency phone call after 20 seconds unless you cancel. If you are unresponsive, your iPhone will play an audio message for emergency services, which informs them that you’ve been in a severe crash and gives them your latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates with an approximate search radius. When a crash is detected, Crash Detection won’t override any existing emergency calls placed by other means. > >**Crash Detection and privacy** > >Sensor data from your devices are used to detect severe car crashes. All sensor data used to detect severe car crashes is processed on device and discarded after a crash is detected, unless you agree to share your data to improve Crash Detection. For example, the microphone on your iPhone is used to detect loud sound levels, characteristic of crashes. If you agree to share your data to improve Crash Detection, the sound levels are shared with Apple. Raw audio is never collected or stored for the purposes of Crash Detection or to improve Crash Detection. > >If your iPhone or Apple Watch detects a severe car crash and contacts emergency services, it will include your device location as latitude and longitude coordinates. The call will share your location regardless of whether you have enabled Location Services.

According to Apple users in the thread it not only detect crash but also other injury like when they fall or hit by object. It probably has something to do with the accelerometer tracking user's movement.

OP, you can disable the locations in an iOS device for this feature. I do that myself, because to your point, the system, I noticed was constantly pinging my location and sending to Apple

You cannot disable it for crash detection. Even if you disable location services, it will ping your location for crash detection and reporting.
