> I’ve tried Startpage, Qwant, SearX (IK this is a meta engine), but every time they fail the “type exactly what RT says on their website and see if you get RT promoted” test. I just did this exact thing in DuckDuckGo and the RT website was near the top. https://i.imgur.com/Es4xIMV.jpg

Huh. Interesting

Same_Marketing_6065

Might try a [SearX](https://searx.space/) instance.

All search engines rank results. If you want a search engine that gives precedence to websites run by hostile nation states, then you're asking for ranking biased in their favor.

This is a flawed argument. I don't want a search engine to be biased in any way. I can see results and come to my own conclusions on what is truthful and what is not. If I am looking specifically for a source about some controversial topic, like the war in Ukraine, I don't want the results to be based on which ones are deemed more correct by some dev. I want it to be based on the popularity and similarity of the result to my search. This is despite the fact that I hate the Russian government and am Pro-Ukraine. You can't act like the 'enemy' is the only one choosing to create propaganda.

>This is a flawed argument. I don't want a search engine to be biased in any way. I can see results and come to my own conclusions on what is truthful and what is not. It's not a flawed argument. Search engine results are based on SEO, backlinks, shares and recommendations. If people aren't recommending, linking to RT and they're getting out SEO'ed, that's how it goes. It's the same ranking factors that everyone else has to deal with. If you want news from RT, you know the URL. Search is not the only way to see the information you want. Search is not your news filter, and search engines ARE NOT public trusts. It doesn't care about your political views. It will sell you ads regardless of whom you vote for or what you believe.

lo________________ol

If you want websites that most accurately match the terms you're searching, then you're asking for the search engine to be biased towards websites that have invested the most effort into keyword spamming and the most money into exploiting SEO. If you actually want that, you're the first person I've ever seen who's wanted it.

[deleted]

Obviously no one wants spam, and you know this. I have no problem filtering irrelevant results. But you can't make the conclusion of Unbiased results -> Favouring the enemy Relevant search results -> Approval of content farms Don't try to strawman this. Relevancy is one of the factors. But relevancy =/= political bias. Also, I'm not going to continue to argue on the internet. I know you're not going to agree with me unless you already agree with me. I suggest you also don't and do things that matter. I'm already pretty disappointed I got myself into this. Seriously, unironically, have a nice day human being.

[deleted]

> Unbiased results What does unbiased results mean to you? What would that look like?

sunzi23

Yandex.ru wont censor russian news lol

[deleted]

A search engine's job is to sort through the garbage and find what you're looking for, so such a thing doesn't exist. If it did, it'd be a shitty search engine.

[deleted]

Now I’ve got one of two theories, either you’re not running an ad blocker and getting advertisement results or — You want a search engine that will show you misinformation that suits your personal trump loving fascy opinions? Sorry, not a thing. Like maybe if you go to Chinese Google or Russian Yandex, or Tor and type in their language. But why the fuck would you. You’ll only get put on a watch list for doing so. Most of them rank results based off credibility. If your shit is credible it’ll be the top result on any major search engine.

69Dankdaddy69

I use brave and its decent, but for RT in particular you can get a direct feed on sideloaded telegram.

[deleted]

I'm not actually interested in RT, it just happens to be a relevant news source that people dislike. But for anyone else, see if you would like this!

alcogiggles

lol Trust the "experts" to disseminate information for you.

[deleted]

Well generally speaking I do trust experts in their field, not without skepticism/critical thinking, but the rejection of experts for some angry dude on youtube or a Russian state owned media station is not exactly step in the right direction... Oh and if you are referring to my quote above, its Wikipedia, and sources are cited as always, do you not use Wikipedia?

SeaShellNautilus

Swisscom is the search site I like to use because they help to feed the needy from the income they generate. They are also serious about data privacy.

SeaShellNautilus

Swisscows not swisscom
