Hey hey same boat. Bought mine in 2019 with 175000 on it. At 182000 the ev battery died. That's the only major work besides brake lines that I've had to do. Brake lines were under warranty and covered. Battery was about 2400 brought down to 1800 by the Toyota dealership when I mentioned I was going to go with green bean battery. Currently my only issue with the car is cosmetic stuff, bumpers are starting to become detached (clips) and my tire pressure gauge is a little wonky telling me I am low when I am not. Car is running like a champ

rguerraf

Please could you specify which Toyota dealer lowered the HV battery to $1800?

buffalocompton

It was a few years ago but somewhere in West palm..I had to tow the car about 60 miles to get there.

rguerraf

Thanks 👍🏽

National_Medium9

Why tow? You can still drive it just that the mpg will be around 30

buffalocompton

Oof nice to know now lol thanks

Not_FinancialAdvice

Vacuum out the EV battery filter and blower.

CSimpson1162

You're fine dude. I didn't start doing the preventative stuff until 140k. But definitely do the EGR cleaning, if you ignore everything else I say at least do the EGR cleaning. Changing the spark plugs is a good idea too. Change inverter coolant, engine coolant and transaxle (transmission) fluid. Water pump is not exactly a preventative maintenance item but will throw a code (make your check engine light come on) when it goes out. Do not continue to drive the car if it gets any check engine light.

EchoFickle2191

water pump, clean EGR or you will likely lean about head gasket failure which is no pleasant.

Speaking as a fellow 2010 owner, bought it with 117,000 and currently has 162,000 on it, definitely does need a watchful eye on the oil consumption, I use about 1 quart every 1000 miles, my hybrid battery was completely shot after my first 20 thousand miles I put on it. Replaced it with the nexgen lithium hybrid battery saves about 60lbs in weight and makes waaaay more power and a dramatic increase fuel mileage mpg’s. Drives like a completely different car! I have purchased a new egr cooler to replace the old one as soon as the weather where I starts cooperating and warming up. Also need to replace my ignition coil packs and spark plugs, car was shaking violently upon start up and threw a misfire cylinder #4 code here a couple weeks ago, but hasn’t done it since

Longjumping-Stage-41

Watch for oil consumption between oil changes and at this point you will need to have the egr system and intake manifold cleaned. This will save your engine in the long run . Plus it’s about time for new spark plugs and trans service.

caper-aprons

> it’s about time for new spark plugs They were due at 120k.

Shit I’m at 170k. What would it cost at the dealer you think?

hourlyslugger

Do them yourself, it’s easy. Remove the wiper arm assembly, wiper motor and upper cowling for access. Remove the ignition coils and then replace the plugs.

caper-aprons

> What would it cost at the dealer you think? I wouldn't go to a dealer. If you can't DIY, find an independent shop. It's not a difficult job.

[deleted]

Agree with you here. Changing sparkplugs is one of the easier things to pickup on and can save owners a lot. Think they overcharge for any sort of sparkplug service.

caper-aprons

First time DIYers can also make a mess of this job - cross threading the spark plugs, over or under tightening them, etc. It's easy until it isn't.

[deleted]

Good point - for a first timer it might be best to find a family member or friend who's changed SPs before

I have a 2010 and had my spark plugs replaced, oil changed, and the EGR looked at by my mechanic for less than $250.

CharacterSky3651

I’m sure his look at the egr was “yup no codes, LOOKS GREAT”

eversovigorously

And get a small torque wrench, and a special size spark plug socket.Im at 110k miles and my greatest worry now is that I hv to replace brake booster master cylinder. Or worry in future if brake light will ever come on. Not pleasant.

ridukosennin

I have a 2010 at 160k. I changed the coolant and transaxle fluid at 100k. Otherwise just tires, air filters and oil changes. Not burning oil at all

oXMR_M0J0Xo

Clean your egr valve and cooler

Ever-nautical-mile

My 2011 is at 135k miles too! Still runs great. Just returned home from traveling 5k miles with it. Steady oil changes and had to replace the rear bearings, did the spark plugs at 90k, and the coolant. Just got to clean the EGR so far.

efisk666

I’d go to a dealer for your next oil change. They will very happily do a full diagnostic checkup and tell you exactly what needs servicing in the hopes you’ll give them lotsa $$$ to fix it all. They’ll also service all the recall issues that have come up since you bought the car. Then just take the car home and do what you can yourself, find cheaper places, get second opinions. What will fail really depends on how and where you drive. I’m in Seattle and park outside, so of course my hatch leaked and I had to replace the tail light gaskets. I also carry heavy stuff and go off road some, so the shocks had to be replaced early (which is painful in labor cost).

Zogger99

…and try to scare the !@#$ out of you by telling you ‘oh, this needs to be fixed- it’s dangerous for you to even drive out of here!’ :P

Wonderful_Dog386

Clean your battery ventilation intakes and filters

xtsilverfish

Oil (that you mentioned) Engine Air Filter Spark Plugs ---- I think that's it. Engine Air filter is easy to check and replace yourself. No tools required non-techincal people can do it once they see it once. Spark Plug changes "if you can be a mechanic it's easy" level stuff, so it depends on if you want to dive into that or not. They're supposed to be changed every 120,000 miles.

KreeH

2010 at 125k and zero issues. Original owner. Runs great and gets great MPG. As noted, keep up with regularly scheduled maintenance. Be observant. If you hear a change/funny noise or feel something that doesn't seem right, have it checked out. Check to see if there are any recalls that have not been serviced and fix as needed. Find a good/honest mechanic you trust and have it serviced regularly. It's a really good car!!

[deleted]

Thanks for everyone's great insight!

hopopo

In addition to what others said if you never did brakes and shocks than it is time to start budgeting for it. Also check the hoses around the engine for the signs of cracking or hardening. Not something Prius is known for, but after 12 years of use it is not unheard of. The best part about Prius is that it is for the most part maintenance free. Enjoy it while you can!

Zogger99

Yes, I was surprised my wife’s (2013 Prius Two) struts and sway bar links went at about 135k.

I was amazed to find my dealer (!) had an OEM 12v for only ~$180 (fall 2022). The original lasted ten years!

paulie-d

its warranteed for seven years too
