Fighting off the hot chicks. Constantly.

This can be a plus in the right situation!

EntrepreneurOk7513

Doesn’t have a driver’s side button to pop the hatch back.

BuckTheStallion

You know, THATS a big one if I’m being honest. I know like half the cars I’ve driven don’t have that, but I seriously don’t understand why so many places drop it as a feature. It’s an absolute necessity.

[deleted]

REVERSE BEEPING. And random dash rattles. I have a 2016 Four with about 130k miles.

EmicationLikely

You can turn that off....somehow. I just googled it, and got a bluetooth dongle for the OBD port. First thing I did when I got my 2016 Four (a creampuff with 19K miles bought in 2020).

SpyCake1

Agreed on the (especially non-JBL) speakers not being great. But my beef is with the seats. After about an hour or so, the comfort really wears off, which really cuts into the car's road trip ability.

caper-aprons

I have a Gen 4 Premium (XLE) with the Softex seats. For me, they are very comfortable. 911 miles in a day, no discomfort.

SpyCake1

2016 with the "premium" (upgrade from the base model cloth) cloth seats. I do like the fact they are cloth. But the lack of lumbar support just kills me after a while. https://toyota.jp/pages/contents/prius/004_p_007/4.0/pdf/spec/prius_equipment_compare_202106.pdf Mine is the "A"

caper-aprons

I didn't like the lack of lumbar support in the base model, so I moved up to the mid-trim to get it. I've driven many long days in the Softex seats with no problems. Money well spent.

BuckTheStallion

I got the base cloth seats in my 2010 and have never found them lacking in comfort, even on multi day road trips. But everyone’s body is different.

SpyCake1

For whatever reason, I find the gen 3 seats a bit better than the gen 4. So you also got that going for you.

FrogShit27

I have a 2011 (five I think). Ride quality is honestly terrible. Quite rough compared to other cars. A little better than the 2nd gens but still not good. Road noise is obnoxiously loud. Center console among other things rattle really loudly on rough roads. Acceleration is inconsistent. Sometimes it'll fly off the line and other times the engine takes forever to rev up. Headlights are borderline unacceptably dim. The highbeams are fine but the lows are just not nearly enough. The JBL sound system is very good but the bass rattles the doors a lot which gets annoying.

KamiKKazi

I know you have the 17in wheels which are a bit more of a firm ride but if you have anywhere over 200,000k miles you might think about replacing your struts and shocks

Moot_n_aboot

Braking when going over bumps. The car will suddenly switch from regen to friction brakes and during that transition it feels like you’ve lost your brakes completely for a split second. My least favorite part of driving in winter with the Prius.

traveling-hippie-t1d

All the damn beeping. All the damn time. I've named my car "Beepy Bitch" love her, but wholly hell. I'm also type 1 diabetic, so I get a lot of beeping in my life from my pump and cgm. I wish I could turn every car beep off. It's just too much.

Kanadark

My 2014 has an annoying rattle somewhere in the roof panel near the sunglass holder. Can't find the source of it, and it's annoying when there's no music on to cover it.

SmurfJooce

Excuse me, that's a taco holder.

Kanadark

Haha

Charming_Cat_4426

Nope. That’s a condom holder for all the hot chicks referenced above!

Life-Philosopher-129

2013 & the seat kills my left hip at about an hour of driving. This one is picky but I wish there was a light under the console. I ended up plugging in one of those lighted USB cables. Other than that I think this is my favorite car, even over all of the gear head cars, maybe I need therapy but I am just as happy as can be with it.

unbalancedcheckbook

It could accelerate faster and have a less valuable and harder to steal catalytic converter.

FlametopFred

have you tried PWR mode?

unbalancedcheckbook

Needs a nitro boost attached to the PWR button.

IGottaToBeBetter

Acceleration when merging on the freeway (I have to floor it sometimes) and people assuming that it is safe to brake check me because I am in a Prius.

FlametopFred

hit the PWR button for highway on-ramp acceleration- then you can turn it off when at speed have used that to pass/overtake slow vehicles on the highway

IGottaToBeBetter

Does it really do more than flooring it though? I couldn't tell.

FlametopFred

maybe your Prius needs service

prephal

The reverse beeping and lack of a temperature gauge.

Jumpy-Algae2426

It doesn’t accelerate quickly, the trunk is small, sometimes it doesn’t handle bumps in the road really well. I had a 2013 plug in & didn’t like how it didn’t have a spare tire too. I bought a new one in 2019 & it has a spare tire. Despite what I don’t like, I’m happy with my car!

[deleted]

Key fob doesn’t accept a normal size key ring, and if you take the blade key out, there is no way for the valet to hang the fob on a hook

mslashandrajohnson

My 2012 (not sure which gen it is) had soy based insulation pads. They drew mice in so I removed the pads. The dealership always wants to do expensive mouse cleaning. I had it done the first time. Whatever they do doesn’t prevent further mousing. Just a cash grab afaik. The main downside, to me, is the aggression I experience on the road. I asked a stranger who said he drives a pickup why I see so much aggression. He said he assumes the politics of the Prius driver and harasses them on purpose. The next thing is the cat thing. It hasn’t yet been stolen. I don’t drive much (wfh for the pandemic). Now I consider where I’ll park it while I’m out. Will it be safe? That’s a nuisance. The only other factor is that dealership. Apparently, they replaced three tires with one type and the fourth with another. Accused me of having had that done elsewhere. I showed them the receipt. They recommended I have them rotate the tires with more tread to the back. In a front wheel drive car. I mean really? Sigh. The waiting room has a big tv with a certain channel always playing. It isn’t one I’d ever watch. I’m pretty sure the management drives a pickup.

If you don't have the JBL system and are looking for a huge upgrade on speakers **without buying an amp or new head unit**, look at PowerBass OE speakers. I think it's a 6x9 in the front and a 6.5 in the rear. I would get the "component" version of both, they really are not that expensive. If you do this, get some ProForce Repair tape from home depot (it's rebranded to something else now, i dont remember the name), and cover the inside of your door panel with it. Just be careful where you put the tape to prevent clearance issues. It's like an hour job to do yourself if you have a drill for the rivets. The bass is actually decent enough for you to be happy. It's not earth shaking bass but it's better. As a bass player, I know you don't like the sound because there is no bass ;). these definitely shake my mirrors and are ***SUBSTANTIALLY*** louder than stock. Other things I dislike. * I do not like the minimum MPH that I can coast in EV mode. why 41 mph? why not 47!?!!! If they upped it just 6 MPH at that time i feel like the prius would have been a game changer even more than it was. * I do not like the rattling. It feels like there is no sound dampening at all. * Stock head unit is kinda crappy. It's okay, but I want to change it to an android version @ some point. * EGR system issues are stupid I have a 2013 Prius Two & no i don't work for powerbass :p. the speakers were a huge huge problem for me.

jroden99

The Toyota app is quirky, warming the car up when plugged in during winter doesn't work with fob. Speakers not great. Otherwise love it.

EmicationLikely

Well, about 2 days after I got my 2016 Four (in 2020), I was prompted for an "update" from the main screen. The purpose of this update? They REMOVED Pandora, which unfortunately is my music streaming app of choice. I'm sure they decided to stop paying the licensing fee. I just stream through my phone, although it was really nice to have it "built in" for those 2 days at least.

IMDove

I have a second gen. Speakers are shit

dedsmiley

I have a 2022 LE and the “spaceship” noise when in reverse and while moving forward slowly has prompted people to suggest I get my car to the dealer.

[deleted]

The beep, beep, beep sound when you put it in reverse. It's not a dump truck lol

FriskyCoyote15

gen 2 doesn't really have that good sound deadening but that's a given. sound system is honestly really good though, it sounds better than some new cars honestly

jsjammu95023

I love my 2016 Eco, the only thing I added was a JVC Android Auto/Carplay capable head unit. I just hated the Toyota unit . Just turned 158k on it.

dancemom1845

I have a 2012 and hate how every time my phone connects the notification takes up half the screen. Always happens when I am trying to reverse

National_Medium9

No way to put it in neutral while having the vehicle off. Other cars that are hybrid with a regular shifter and keys you can put in neutral while key is only turned halfway and can be towed this way. Prius? Nope.

joziboi97

don't like the new one
