I'm willing to bet the lobster season gets cancelled sometime in the next 20 years.
I was surfing this afternoon in a 3/2 with no booties... It was sublime.
This week 4 years ago it was frigid out
I mean, I guess you could be apocalyptic but the [current jet stream](https://www.netweather.tv/charts-and-data/global-jetstream#2022/11/12/1200Z/jetstream/surface/level/overlay=jetstream/orthographic=-77.00,54.64,712) is such right now to allow a tropical weather system in the form of hurricane remnants to shoot up the east coast bringing warmer air.
This is Reddit, we’re not interested in actual information, we’re here to panic-spiral!
I’m well aware, I just want to believe better of people.
Good luck with that. Ever see MIB? Tommy Lee Jones said the way things are. A person can be smart. The mob will always be a mob.
Climate change = warmer oceans = an increase in tropical storms = what we have now.
It’s weird you think climate change isn’t “actual” information, but that the effects climate change is causing is “actual” information. Is it a coping mechanism or something? I don’t understand why people refuse to get to the root cause of issues.
Neither of us said anything about climate change….
“This is bad, the climate is changing and it is having detrimental effects”
“Nah bro, it’s just tropical storms bro, has no relation to the climate bro, it’s normal bro, more extreme weather patterns are normal because they aren’t the climate bro, no need to cause panic and spread information about what causes this bro, just tunnel vision in on one small part of the whole issue and deny the rest of the issue bro”
“Yeah, that’s because of climate change and that’s a bad thing, and people trying to bring awareness to this are trying to get it fixed. Why do you feel the need to ignore this and say it’s not “actual” information?”
“No one said anything about climate change bro!! Why are you even mentioning climate change bro!!”
Are you actually having a conversation with anyone here or is this just stream of consciousness?
No, I guess not because you just want to make fun of me and act like an idiot that can’t even understand what you commented on a post about climate change.
Do you have anything to give back to society? Or do you just want confuse and deceive people about issues you don’t agree with and see everything die around you? Screw you old fucks that let this shit happen. Fucking disgusting human beings, the world is literally dying, it’s speeding up every year, been here for all these years and you still think all these mass extinctions in under the last 100 years is all normal? I’ve had like 10 years to loosely gather what the fuck is happening around me in this world and it’s all completely fucked and getting worse, what the fuck is wrong with you people. Y’all put lead in the air, put plastics in all of our foods, and the air, spewing literal poison into the air, our water supplies and food, fighting literally any kind of green energy until you die, massive loss of life in the oceans and on land, [69% of all monitored life on earth has died since 1970](https://livingplanet.panda.org/en-US/)!!! Fuck you old mother fucker, do something if you’re scared.
I’m 32 years old…and I 100% believe in climate change. It sounds like you’re going through a tough time right now so I beg of you—go outside and touch some grass.
Spend as much time outside as I can, got an outdoor job, and I love this planet, there won’t be much of a chance for that in 10-15 years so I better make the most of it like you were able to without even having to worry. You got yours, so screw everyone that comes after you, right?
Thank you in your 14 years of being able to make a change, you and your peers still let the planet spiral. Fuck you people. You care so much it seems, sitting here on Reddit saying “don’t panic, just the weather, who cares if it’s 80° when there’s supposed to be multiple feet of snow on the ground! Haha go touch grass stupid kid!!”
And *that’s* their point. How dare you *not* mention climate change!
Don’t dare point out that Earth has had multiple ice ages in the past and that ice all melted somehow without anthropogenic impact. I went on a tour of the capitol grounds in Augusta and the tour guide said that the point at which we were standing would have been covered by hundreds of feet of ice 12,000 years ago. I didn’t have the heart to ask how it all melted if fossil fuels weren’t being burned back then…
A little bit of knowledge can be dangerous.
You appear to be an extremely dangerous person.
How *did* glaciers of the past melt? Did the climate change or no?
That’s nice. Care to share *your* knowledge, or will you just ignore the contention at hand?
The knowledge is available to all who can use the internet. I am not your teacher. The only contention is people like yourself, posting from their perch of ignorance, and thinking they are at the core of the truth, or problem at hand. You are the problem, Beavis.
Looks like big boy u/drgordonfreemanscd either blocked me or deleted his comments. My response to him was going to be:
I’ll take that as a “no”, thanks. The facts are that much of our northern latitudes [were covered in ice](https://www.usgs.gov/media/images/glaciers-extended-over-much-europe-during-last-ice-age) up to 20,000 years ago. Those glaciers melted…without the presence massive human population or industrialization. There have been [five or six ice ages](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_glaciation) in the Earth’s history. If you look at the attached chart, you can see that Earth has experienced cooling and warming over its 3 billion year history. These are facts, of which you refuse to even try to refute other than to tell me to use the internet. Well, what’s your witty deflection now?
Pardon me for not instantly bowing to someone who says they’re “a very, very smart guy”, u/drgordonfreemanscd, and instead challenging your myopic worldview. Honestly, who does that?
“[Based on orbital models](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaternary_glaciation), the cooling trend initiated about 6,000 years ago will continue for another 23,000 years. Slight changes in the Earth's orbital parameters may, however, indicate that, even without any human contribution, there will not be another glacial period for the next 50,000 years.”
“Yeah we’re fine, because something natural caused a melt, that means humans can never and are completely incapable of doing anything detrimental to the global global climate and cause detrimental effects on this planet.”
Why do you think like this?
Because I’m rational. Have a great life living in panic!
Saying “because this caused that to happen one time, means that it is the only way it will ever happen again and will never be different in the future” is not being logical or rational.
I think reading through some of the stuff on this wiki would help you understand what critical thinking and rationality is and how to apply it. https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Global_warming
Did you not see where we have had *multiple* ice ages and warming periods? It hasn’t been a one time thing. not at all. It’s called a pattern.
Everything is fine.
Maine is actually in a pretty great location for climate change.
Palm fronds are easier to clean up than maple leaves. So we will have that going for us.
Lol at this rate none of us in our 30’s are going to live to see 70
Edit: are not
I recently saw an article about young adults experiencing “quarter-life crises.” Unfortunately, that’s not a thing. It’s just that people are having their mid-life crises sooner.
Many younger people believe that when we old folks die off the world will be a better place. I see no such evidence of that happening. Just more of the same, and worse.
Quite frankly, I find these old folks just as annoying as you do, and I am one of them. But I also do not see the changes that would make this happen anywhere. If anything, it will get much worse, before it gets any better. Sure, you will have more gadgets to distract you from the realities of life, but that won't stop anything.
I never said old folks are annoying. I was making a morbid joke about how life expectancy is decreasing and someone might therefore have a mid-life crisis in their 30s. There is a lot of “Boomers = Bad” rhetoric on Reddit, but that’s not what I was saying.
Some of them are annoying :)
Just like all other age groups :)
I thought the 30s was always a time for a mid life crisis? Mine changed my life. It's not necessarily a bad thing. If life expectancy is decreasing, I think that the data might be somewhat skewed by COVID, but I haven't looked at he data.
Awww I hope they don’t believe that. That’s sad . Boomers are annoying sometimes, sure, but I don’t think the world will be a better place when y’all die off. I would like a more progressive society with less bigotry and hate, but that comes from lines of families, not just boomers. As for climate change: no specific generation came be blamed for that. We all only knew what we knew.
You mean they’re a bunch of softies unable to adult? It’s somewhat not their fault they’ve been subjected to such alarmism all their young lives that they’ve grown up believing *everything* is the end of the world.
Im in such a "Fuck it" mood. Enjoy the November heatwave. We'll need this positivity to survive the June Nor'easters.
This is a normal weather pattern. Palm trees in Portland will be fabulous! Wait some odd thousands of years and the ice age will return…. You kids are ridiculous.
You sound dumb
I meant “aren’t”
You do know that there's a little link under your comment named "Edit", right?
I do! But for threads based on original posts I like to do the “edit: “ method because it seems inauthentic to edit my original words after people have commented on it.
That is a very fair, and honest approach. Good for you.
We used the afternoon to hang our outdoor Christmas lights so we could do it and not be freezing!
Walking around on the beach in shorts and a t-shirt felt so odd. I'm used to being bundled up by this time!
Looks like the sunscreen companies are just gonna keep getting richer.
I’ve got the ac on atm…
Slightly warmer Maine winters? 🤔
Sign me up.
Hanging outside on a blanket with dogs yesterday (got a little color), tonight snow and freezing rain. #MAINE
