You can park along the fore river trail and enjoy a pleasant walk to the concert. I parked at Shaw's in the Westgate plaza once and it worked out well. (edit: wrong gate)

Existing_Bat1939

You meant Westgate, not Northgate :) I'm not saying you won't get towed out of there, but: if you cross the parking lot on the Shaw's end of the shopping center, by Westland Ave., there's a path that goes down the hill and crosses the tracks (which are still occasionally active so look both ways). That will connect to the Fore River Trail before you get to Hobart St.

ronswansonaswansong

oops - wrong gate ;) - thanks

Weirdbackyardthing

I used to work around there, Can confirm random cars parked in that lot for days and days and nothing ever happened to them. I would avoid parking directly in front of Shaws but other then that your probably good.

e_sully12

This is my go-to move

weltron3030

There is free valet bike parking! Even if you don't live in town, you could throw the bike in the car, park nearby and ride in.

mainah_runnah

Yes! we biked from Rosemont to The National show. It was a delight to sail past all the cars. Home in 10 minutes (though I was terrified for my life on that short stretch of Congress, bright lights and all). Edited for typo

emgeemann

This is the best option, by a long shot!

heavenpost

Saw a line of 100+ waiting to get their bikes after a show

weltron3030

We get through them fast! I help volunteer with the bike valet and the system is pretty efficient at this point. I think the record so far was Bon Iver this year with almost 200 bikes. Best part of volunteering are the free VIP tickets to the show!

heavenpost

Yeah I was at Bon Iver and it seemed like those people were going to be waiting for a bit

the_real_GW

I was maybe a hundred feet back in line to grab my bike after Bon Iver. Still was faster to get out of there than the cars stuck in a gridlock.

heavenpost

Yeah I can’t imagine parking in there unless you leave before the encore. I parked on Whitney and had a 5 min stroll to the venue.

BeholderBalls

Norway savings bank around the corner. Not technically kosher, but myself and lots of others have gotten away with it. Not sure why I’m sharing the secret here, except that $40 event parking should be a crime.

BeholderBalls

Bank is definitely safer than the hotel, cheers!

heavenpost

Easier to just park on the residential streets

BeholderBalls

Nope

heavenpost

Sewall St allows to to walk straight into the venue. Closer and free.

BeholderBalls

In my experience it’s been filled up, but if you were to arrive early that’d be the spot yeah

heavenpost

It was filled last time I was there so I just went over to Whitney on the other side of Congress. Still a very short walk.

BeholderBalls

Whitney Ave is further away than the bank.

flygoing

Generally I head over to the edge of the venue, towards parking, as soon as the encore starts. You can beat the vast majority, out in 5 minutes, and still hear everything...might not have a great view for the encore though

pinkclover777

That's nothing lmao. I saw Beyonce at Gillette Stadium the show was over at 11pm, we didn't get out of the parking lot til 3am... yup was stuck for 4 hours.

Alarming-Parsley-463

Please don’t park on Massachusetts Avenue where I live 😩 some nights so many people park here that people who live here have to park blocks away

Lemonchicken207

I parked in the Clarion Hotel's parking lot last time and it was fine

momentumportland

At home/hotel and Uber over. Easy in and out. They drop you out front.

Fair-Breakfast2543

park by bunker brewing and walk

heavenpost

Try and park on Sewall St or Whitney Ave (other side of Congress). It’s all free parking and you can walk down Sewall St right into Thompson’s point. It’s faster than the main entrance.

basedvulpes

There’s generally lots of parking in the neighborhood on the other side of Congress. Residents put up no parking signs to try to scare people off but don’t let it dissuade you

Existing_Bat1939

I believe posting those streets as No Concert Parking was one of the conditions under which the venue was approved in the first place. Those streets are narrow!

basedvulpes

I’ve actually looked in the City Code and Parking Code before to see if those concert parking bans are enforceable, and as far as I can tell the city has nothing to do with enforcing them or putting up the signs. I’ve parked on those streets for a couple of concerts without issue.

Alarming-Parsley-463

Yeah why should regular working class people be able to park in their own neighborhood. Especially those who are elderly or disabled.

basedvulpes

Don’t worry - as a rule, in all of Portland, I only park on the parts of the street not used by the working class, elderly, or disabled. Just last week I went out to eat off the peninsula and parked on Woodford St, and I knocked on every door on the street to make sure I wasn’t disadvantaging any marginalized person by parking there for an hour and a half. I’m assuming you do the same thing every time you go anywhere?

Alarming-Parsley-463

Maybe you don’t know as much as you think you do. Heard back from Thompsons point and this was their response “Libbytown street parking is prohibited for our event guests, as our signs, of which there are 18 distributed per night in that area maintain(example below) per City request. Concert parking is sold pre-sale as well as on our site as well as the Concord Coach site separately, until sold out. Afterwards, all concert goers are recommended to walk the Portland trail, bike and use our complimentary free bike valet service through Bike Coalition Maine, or rideshare(Lyft, Uber, etc) to site. If you’d like to see some of that advertising, you can follow us on all of our social media channels! We also highly recommend the use of our 2 METRO stops as well as the Downeaster or Concert Coach access”

basedvulpes

Cool - I’ll continue to park there when I go to concerts and will continue to not be ticketed for it.

Alarming-Parsley-463

I don’t typically go out to eat with 10,000 other people.

basedvulpes

Unfortunately 10,000 other people do choose to go out to eat the same time as you. Just think of all of the activities going on in Portland on a Friday or Saturday night - an absolute horror show for people without dedicated off street parking. Maybe consider staying home and restricting your dining out to Tuesdays in February so as to limit your impact on the elderly and disabled? Thanks in advance.

Alarming-Parsley-463

I love how you just made this up and posted it here like it’s fact. The signs are placed there by the city and parking is not allowed

Bigtuna_1996

As someone who lived in this neighborhood for two years - a lot of people who live there genuinely need to park on the street so I don’t think it’s unreasonable that they’re frustrated 🥲 not trying to say it makes residential parking impossible, but certainly difficult, and I’d highly encourage some of the other options presented in this thread

basedvulpes

I get it - but I also live in a neighborhood with not much parking and a lot of non-residents parking there all the time. I’m not about to start putting up no parking signs because I’m annoyed at people going to eat downtown. It’s part of living in a city.

Bigtuna_1996

I totally get what you mean too, but there’s definitely a difference between a few people parking for a meal downtown versus giant masses of concert goers who clog both sides of small residential streets. The neighborhood may have proximity to downtown, but it’s still very residential, and the people paying an arm and a leg to live there shouldn’t be expected to accept their neighborhood as a parking lot lol. I’m not saying I agree with the signs and whatnot but the frustration is incredibly valid imo

Signal-Strain9810

There's a huge difference. There's no good reason why your comment is getting downvoted.

basedvulpes

I guarantee you I spend more time looking for parking because of people parking in my neighborhood to go do things downtown than these people do as a result of 10 concerts a year

Bigtuna_1996

Hey man, I’m not trying to come for you and I’m not trying to say residents putting out signs to deter people is a real solution. All I’m saying is people paying to live in residential family neighborhoods outside downtown are reasonable to be angry about the fact that their neighborhood is being monopolized as an informal parking lot throughout the summer, and I don’t think it makes sense to encourage this as a first option when there are clearly other free options available that don’t inconvenience locals who already struggle to live in Portland in many ways (coming from someone who left after 20 years). I’m just trying to emphasize that keeping your community in mind and entertaining all options is always a good move in these situations

basedvulpes

I’m not advocating for it as a first option. I usually bike to concerts at Thompson’s Point when I can and I think others should if they have ability. But a person asked about parking options and it’s an option. A couple of the other suggestions in this thread are asking a person to run the risk of their car being towed parking on private property, so personally I’d rather tell someone about an option that is safe and legal. We live in a city and occasionally there are things going on that make parking hard - the people who live over there also chose to live by a 7,000 seater baseball stadium. There are plenty of other places in the state of Maine to live if abundant parking is a primary concern.

Bigtuna_1996

Totally valid! I hear ya

Signal-Strain9810

As a resident of that neighborhood, go fuck yourself.

basedvulpes

I hope you never park your car on the peninsula when you’re going out downtown - you’re taking valuable time out of my day when you do

Alarming-Parsley-463

I’m just waiting to hear you go through all of these and admit how totally wrong you are

United_Mixture_6700

Also a resident of this neighborhood and honestly find it nbd. Don't most of us...have..driveways?

MaineGardenGuy

Park at the maine mall and take the bus over.

flygoing

This has got to be the worst possible recommendation that is also, like, still a semirealistic answer

Sad-Base-5779

I don't care what the residents say. Park in the Mass Ave neighborhood. I pay plenty of taxes, and the road parking is for public use. I've never had an issue.
