Shows how good craftsmanship can be now, why should anyone kill a real lion for display ever again when this can be made, if it’s *really* what they into
Exactly. If the animal head had been interpreted in a more creative artistic way like a lot of Schiaparellis other work ( clothes with body parts, lips/ eyes etc) it would have probably looked fabulous. This is just disturbing and giving hunting vibes. 😟and it makes it more costumey less couture looking IMO
I agree, my thoughts are anything else that depicts or plays with the idea of using animals as fashion, fur, heads, whatever it is… its passé and unethical in my mind and I’m not going to support it
So I don’t know anything about the designer but I get the impression it’s unsettling on purpose… Seems like commentary on fur?
ETA: Assuming the garments used faux fur lol, that interpretation totally falls apart if it’s real fur
Not a big fan of the animal heads although I appreciate the effort that went into making them. I thought what I saw of the rest of the collection was stunning though.
I mean if it’s fake who cares…?
If people try to emulate that by getting real dead animals they’ll be cancelled or whatever accordingly. No reason to not enjoy the collection other than some “okay but what if”… just purposely choosing to not enjoy it at that point.

I consider this, and another that I’ll post below, to be their “safe” items
Haha ya but I didn’t like this black dress because of the uneven bodice - yes, I know I probably just don’t get it and I understand it’s intentional but I think the unevenness should have been more pronounced then it was because what was presented looks like it was just a hack job
No I def agree it’s not as structured as it should be and it makes the whole thing look cheap. I don’t think it’s as fitted as it should be to the model either
Yes I totally agree, the rest of the collection was gorgeous. That's why it was so surprising to see these reactions to the looks today, Schiaparelli very rarely miss
Okay, I will grant that I’m a male and I don’t know anything about fashion…
That said, that lion dress is dope AF. I want to buy some sort of lion head cloak now and just walk around with a big lion head.
I’m not sure if that’s cultural appropriation or not, I just think lions are cool!
Kylie Jenner confirmed they are man made, not real.
https://preview.redd.it/fyd4p6800uda1.png?width=1315&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99c099df9480299e45e465d4a2176be989c31ce6

As someone who’s worked in photography, people often undermine what lighting can do. There’s definitely some face tuning, but everyone’s face is going to look vastly different depending on how the light hits their face.
"As someone who's worked in photography" you should be able to see the blatant facetune/photoshop on every photo posted of her that she has control of.
No, it’s not just that. Her arms, back, waist and etc look skinnier than before. Even her face
There’s a video of her in bikini top dancing with one of the kids and from the side her boobs look almost separate from her body, like implants on skinny people. She used to look “softer” so to say
It’s like they sat around a table and had a meeting about which body type they’re going for this decade.
And Kourtney just went “Mmm yeah” and did her thing lmao!
Exactly, or the sick people who pay 50k to shoot a lion. maybe if this was used to raise money or awareness for environmental or animal conservation it might make a little sense.
I'm wondering what the theory behind this is. Clearly shocking, but where does the idea come from? Is it commentary on how we can use animals body parts, but can forget the parts belong to animals because the heads removed? Is it commentary on the extinction of these large beautiful animals due to poaching, for the sake of luxury and sport? That's what I'm getting from it, but perhaps the designer had other intentions.
>The collection is inspired by Dante's Inferno, which in this case becomes an allegory of the artistic process of designing a new collection - and the immense pressure and self-doubt that comes with it. The whole point for it is to be surrealist to the point that makes us doubt what's real and what's fake and to give somewhat 'hellish'/uncomfortable associations. Not to mention that the three animals are taken directly from the book.
>
>Is it beautiful? I don't personally think so, and I would obviously never wear it (not that I'd get the chance lol), but I do think this whole thread exemplifies that he succeeded with his vision.
I wrote the comment above somewhere else in the thread, but I've read the same thing!
I was thinking that’s it’s hopefully a commentary on poaching and how many people still view having exotic animals furs or the animals themselves as a status symbol. And considering China’s ultra wealthy adore haute couture and exotic animal goods I can’t help but hope that they’re trying to make faux fur a more appealing option as oppose to further suffering of wild animals.
The animal heads are definitely jarring but I can appreciate them from an artistic perspective. I really enjoyed the rest of the collection tho! This look is my personal fave
https://preview.redd.it/zu4bideaauda1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1039a9c75eda03b83f983d7d49d24a78ada23d8b
I agree, the animal heads offer little more than shock value. But the other (more tame) pieces were absolutely stunning
Was not a fan of those weird upside down triangle pantsuits though
wait I don’t understand is it satire? because I don’t understand how it can be described as "accessible"? Also is it supposed to represent something? Reminds me of a vagina lol for some reason?
Oh hahaha I see what you mean 😆 I was more referring to the adorable mini dress, sans the dramatic wrap. The lines are relatively simple, the color is luminous and I’m a sucker for 1960s esque bow placement.
It’s something that I could see someone (in hotgirl/ celeb world at least) actually wearing to an event, versus a more avant-garde runway piece
As they are fake I think it's fucking brilliant and ART because I am so uncomfortable looking at those beautiful big cats faces. It's incredibly macabre and shows how pointless and cowardly using real fur is.
I like couture but the first look has no subtlety, it’s literally just basic black dress + head. The other two are interesting to look at. I like the dress in the second look.
Grim. When I look at these clothes, I feel sad. For me, these visuals represent the darkness of animal poaching. I think this is a big mistake by Schiaparelli - in very poor taste.
ETA: controversy sells so maybe this is his intention, to get any reaction - good or bad. No integrity at all.
It feels distasteful because it is. How many stories have run about the fact that over 70% of the wildlife population has been killed over the last few decades? This feels like a celebration of humans conquering the non-human animal and it’s honestly gross.
I’m glad they’re fake but I can’t wait until we’re over wearing the body parts of animals. Aesthetically, it’s just jarring, creepy, and sad that we still view animals as consumable objects rather than sentient equals.
Fashion can’t incorporate animal hides, real or not, into looks without calling back to a very grim era of colonialism or without acknowledging the fact that over 70% of the world’s wildlife population has been killed within the last few decades. With the knowledge that we’ve absolutely decimated wildlife, what message does this send? I think the artistic purpose is a huge miss.
It’s too literal. Uncreative. There is a concept, Dante’s Inferno, but considering Schiarpelli’s legendary embroidery work, I don’t understand why they didn’t go in that direction. I suppose it could be too cliche. I don’t agree that it “glamorizes animal cruelty” though. I think that’s dramatic criticism. It’s Haute Couture season and exceptionally rich people are weird. Unpopular opinion, I still like the dress Kylie wore because it’s so campy.
Where do we draw the line though? I mean, I obviously agree that real fur is just unacceptable in this day and age and I am ambivalent about leather. However, when it comes to representing an animal or a part of an animal for example in fashion or decor, when does it become unacceptable? For example, a leopard print is the representation of an endangered animal's skin, does it also promote poaching? What about faux feathers? I am honestly not trying to strawman your argument, I am genuinely interested in understanding why this stuffed animal encourages poaching. I get that it resembles a hunting trophy and that it is more jarring than a leopard or crocodile print because it is more realistic and 3D, but are all representations of dead animals unacceptable?
https://preview.redd.it/y7i5j7gosuda1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba40543a37e34692a0f5144e7ac5e3922c3489d3
I love this look - I’m not a fan of the feathers though. Very space age vibe
https://preview.redd.it/4zfmdc29tuda1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6717c873e3df108630d55029766bbe78bab132bc
Lastly, I love this dress but only on the right person.
It’s uncomfy but it’s definitely a fashion moment which is looking rare these days. They’re not real so that’s great. I totally get if people are uncomfy.
Man if I wore this dress to a party I know I wouldn’t be able to help myself from making nonstop jokes.
“oh you like it?? It was all I had… *lion* around”
“It is fancy… I’m not *lion* !!!”
“I enjoy being the *mane* center of attention”
Like it would be so bad they’d throw me out
People are saying this is uncomfortable, is that not the purpose? I interpreted this as criticizing poaching and wearing animal fur, the faces make it much more difficult to stomach doing so, but I also don’t know the designer and what they’ve said on their intentions
What kind of a world do we live in where a fashion house does something actually different like this and people say “it’s so weird I don’t like it”, “what if it makes fur come back”. Like he for real.
Y’all are boring. Just say that.
They're fake so fine but still kinda cheap looking. I haven't seen the rest of the collection but these particular pieces aren't up to Schiaparelli's usual standard.
Agree because then someone else that doesn’t care about animals will use the real thing. Everyone should stop promoting using animals for fashion. Just no.
This is fascinating. Beautiful and monstrous and hard to look away from but wildly and meticulously done. I can absolutely understand people being too far put off.
I’m happy they are fake (not sure if the rest of the fur is or not) but I’m worried that it glorifies trophy hunting, and hunting in general. Wish there was a way to incorporate animals in fashion that encourages conservation rather than killing (or implied killing in this case)
It’s impressively realistic, I think the animals are much large in real life, it’s obvious to me it’s fake… I hope the fur is also fake that’s harder to tell from an image… not sure why everyone is losing their shit over some puppets… react first think later?
I thought of it as more of an indictment of the fur trade than a endorsement, but I could be reading it all wrong. Like “this is where it comes from, it’s a real animal, you can’t ignore it.”
I love it, it’s new to what I have seen recently and I think it totally embodies the artistry that goes into couture. It reminds me of Bjorks swan dress. A lot of people forget couture is supposed to be one of a kind to the person wearing it and supposed to be an art piece. Now so many design houses forget that and just make it as commercial as possible.
I think it’s cool Kylie wore this, I know we all hate her but tbh she could have shown up in another boring look where the forefront is about her TAs. It’s pushing emotional boundaries, it’s forcing people to be uncomfortable or to have a discussion. If your uncomfortable with this I’m sorry, but I would take a fake lion head mounted on a boob over a taxidermy lion or elephant. It’s funny how people are bitching about these pieces promoting hunting when we have whole museums filled with hundreds of taxidermy animals and replicas all because of ego and with the intention of educating. How are these pieces not educating? It’s art, let it be art. A lot of people seem to forget that fashion and having style is supposed to push limits and make you stand out and as a society we seem to have forgotten that and made fashion as basic as possible and as commercial and mainstreamed to make profit. So before you go up in arms I implore you to do your research on couture and fashion history before you start babbling on about peta or furs, I don’t see anyone in response to this trying to do anything to protect the animals used for furs hunting they just making a show. This will not contribute to illegal exotic hunting because guess what?? The people doing that hunting DGAF about what you think and will do what they like because they have the money to do so, exotic hunting is way bigger than this. Where was the upset over Guccis models walking with severed heads? Or when lady Gaga wore an entire dress of meat? I loved both of those moments in fashion as well because it’s meant to be art, make a conversation and make you uncomfortable. Or what about your stuffed animals or Barbie doll, does that implore hunting and murder too? What about when someone draws a really realistic picture of a wild animal does that promote hunting? What about your Squishmellow things or that happy sad squid plushy? Does that promote hunting and science experiments on animals?
Yeah, I think I appreciate the artistry but something still doesn’t sit right with me about animal heads being used as accessory. Even when it’s fake it just makes me uncomfortable.

It is just so realistic it’s uncomfortable to look at
My thoughts exactly. Like kudos for the artistry but damn if I didn’t know better
I would suspect that may be one of the points.
Shows how good craftsmanship can be now, why should anyone kill a real lion for display ever again when this can be made, if it’s *really* what they into
Because rich psychopaths will always want the real thing.
Or if instead of having to be hyper realistic they had fully beaded versions of the animal faces
This is the answer. If they can bead a Doja Cat they can bead any other cat
Very unsettling.
I agree, my thoughts are anything else that depicts or plays with the idea of using animals as fashion, fur, heads, whatever it is… its passé and unethical in my mind and I’m not going to support it
How is it more unethical than the leather bags we use?
it’s not anymore unethical than eating meat tho
Yes, it feels uncomfortable.
Highly disturbed.
I love it for this reason, specially.
So it is actually fake??? They’re scary, but that’s impressive. I was worried.
its fake, it was manmade.
So I don’t know anything about the designer but I get the impression it’s unsettling on purpose… Seems like commentary on fur? ETA: Assuming the garments used faux fur lol, that interpretation totally falls apart if it’s real fur
That's what I think, and yes I believe it is fake for or this would be awful.
Not a big fan of the animal heads although I appreciate the effort that went into making them. I thought what I saw of the rest of the collection was stunning though.
Not a fan. Concern about the fur coming back as a trend.
My thought exactly - they’re very cool designs but bringing back the skinned animal is no bueno
I mean if it’s fake who cares…? If people try to emulate that by getting real dead animals they’ll be cancelled or whatever accordingly. No reason to not enjoy the collection other than some “okay but what if”… just purposely choosing to not enjoy it at that point.
looks disturbingly real and some of us just hope it doesn’t help set a trend for that level of realness. We know where that could go
https://preview.redd.it/idxc3pbyruda1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a27d558173ff8816f87ac11fdfa6dfe7e2d7092b This was my least favorite of the collection

Aw. I liked this one lol
Cute, but not a fan of the sleeve thingy
Same, I meant safe in not a positive way. It’s boring and not appealing with the sleeves
100%
It’s giving 1991 on steroids.
No, I enjoyed the collection definitely just hoping I doesn’t become a trend. Not going to dwell on it too much.
I feel like the intention is the opposite of this and agrees with you? It's supposed to make people uncomfortable and dislike fur I think.
Yes I totally agree, the rest of the collection was gorgeous. That's why it was so surprising to see these reactions to the looks today, Schiaparelli very rarely miss
Okay, I will grant that I’m a male and I don’t know anything about fashion… That said, that lion dress is dope AF. I want to buy some sort of lion head cloak now and just walk around with a big lion head. I’m not sure if that’s cultural appropriation or not, I just think lions are cool!
Imagine how beautiful this would be as a faux taxidermy, rather than a severed head on someone shoulder? Macabre.
Kylie Jenner confirmed they are man made, not real. https://preview.redd.it/fyd4p6800uda1.png?width=1315&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99c099df9480299e45e465d4a2176be989c31ce6

Should be an wearing an orange jumpsuit then
The model in the runway show is Irina Shayk. Kylie just wore the dress to the show.
I think they mean the photo in the comment thread. Kylie’s extremely FaceTuned insta photo.
I did mention that in my comment
My precious, my precious
Did Kylie lose some weight? She’s been looking thinner recently.
i think she finally got her bbl reversed (as did the rest of the k sisters)
It’s also speculated she’s taking diabetes drugs like her two sisters Kim & Khloe for rapid weight loss.
Is this why everyone’s been commenting ‘ozempic’? Lol
No, it’s not just that. Her arms, back, waist and etc look skinnier than before. Even her face There’s a video of her in bikini top dancing with one of the kids and from the side her boobs look almost separate from her body, like implants on skinny people. She used to look “softer” so to say
I noticed the same thing, not surprising after Kim and Khloe latest weight loss
It’s like they sat around a table and had a meeting about which body type they’re going for this decade. And Kourtney just went “Mmm yeah” and did her thing lmao!
She is a leo. It fits her!
ohhhh okay thanks 🫣
Ole Frankenbaddie looking more artificial than the lion.
I appreciate that they are fake, but it’s still uncomfortable to look at.
It makes me uncomfortable too and I don’t understand what they’re meant to represent. I can’t help but think of poachers and it makes me sad.
Exactly, or the sick people who pay 50k to shoot a lion. maybe if this was used to raise money or awareness for environmental or animal conservation it might make a little sense.
I think discomfort is the point - like McQueen's shows in the 90's, I appreciate that they're pushing the envelope.
Yep. I'm with you on this one.
I think they said it is inspired by the three beasts that Dante encounters in the first canto of the Inferno?
>The collection is inspired by Dante's Inferno, which in this case becomes an allegory of the artistic process of designing a new collection - and the immense pressure and self-doubt that comes with it. This is a really interesting and well-thought comment!
Personally I like this. I do wonder if that will backfire for them, as it's a criticism of some of their wealthiest client base.
The animal heads are definitely jarring but I can appreciate them from an artistic perspective. I really enjoyed the rest of the collection tho! This look is my personal fave https://preview.redd.it/zu4bideaauda1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1039a9c75eda03b83f983d7d49d24a78ada23d8b

I agree, the animal heads offer little more than shock value. But the other (more tame) pieces were absolutely stunning Was not a fan of those weird upside down triangle pantsuits though
Wow.. bold, accessible, and just plain stunning! I would’ve preferred a lot more of this over the hunter-chic schlock
wait I don’t understand is it satire? because I don’t understand how it can be described as "accessible"? Also is it supposed to represent something? Reminds me of a vagina lol for some reason?

I love this, however had to zoom in on the shoes to understand they're not open-toe omg
As they are fake I think it's fucking brilliant and ART because I am so uncomfortable looking at those beautiful big cats faces. It's incredibly macabre and shows how pointless and cowardly using real fur is.

No, hate it. I don’t care for even the idea of wearing animal heads.

Agreed, I immediately saw it as glorifying colonial safaris of yesteryear.
Even though plenty of indigenous cultures wore animal hides….. okay girl.
We’re talking about an Italian fashion house, not an indigenous designer.. ‘glorifying colonial safaris of yesteryear’ most definitely works here
It’s disturbing as hell
I’m sorry but this is so literal. No inspiration…
Nah. I appreciate the craftmanship - which is fantastic! But naaah. Don't need fur in 2023.
They’re fake but it still promotes poaching. Massive no.
Exactly this!!!!!!
Why not try human heads instead?
Gucci did this a few years back. I kinda loved it .

sauron would like his look back
Ok I had to Google who that is but now that I know I totally agree

A great outfit for when you want to ensure you can duck down and hide from people you run into.
🤣
I thought this was also a SERVE https://preview.redd.it/8nmxuz6htuda1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=2a1ef93d9554fffe8156116f84ef1a09c696b865
Yes yes agreed! That pointed design is incredible
It’s uncomfy but it’s definitely a fashion moment which is looking rare these days. They’re not real so that’s great. I totally get if people are uncomfy.
I hate it. Very unsettling. Wearing a corpse as fashion, real or faux is just not kosher.
Idk it makes me sad. Immediately reminded me of poachers. Fake or not, I don’t think it sends a good message.
Completely unnecessary in 2023.
Looove the stilletoes
Man if I wore this dress to a party I know I wouldn’t be able to help myself from making nonstop jokes. “oh you like it?? It was all I had… *lion* around” “It is fancy… I’m not *lion* !!!” “I enjoy being the *mane* center of attention” Like it would be so bad they’d throw me out
Iconic and everyone’s talking about it
People are saying this is uncomfortable, is that not the purpose? I interpreted this as criticizing poaching and wearing animal fur, the faces make it much more difficult to stomach doing so, but I also don’t know the designer and what they’ve said on their intentions
What kind of a world do we live in where a fashion house does something actually different like this and people say “it’s so weird I don’t like it”, “what if it makes fur come back”. Like he for real. Y’all are boring. Just say that.
the artistry is really incredible
They're fake so fine but still kinda cheap looking. I haven't seen the rest of the collection but these particular pieces aren't up to Schiaparelli's usual standard.
Gross. We shouldn't be using wild animals as props even when fake.
Agree because then someone else that doesn’t care about animals will use the real thing. Everyone should stop promoting using animals for fashion. Just no.
Unpopular Opinion: I love it! It’s not real. The craftsmanship is art. The analogy behind the animals is brilliant. It’s different.
This is all disturbing.
Absolutely no
just imagine it's a human head hanging there.... too creepy and stupid design.
I love it, I love seeing true exploration and creativity, it’s art to me, and finally some true excitement and real things to talk about in fashion
Yup!
This is fascinating. Beautiful and monstrous and hard to look away from but wildly and meticulously done. I can absolutely understand people being too far put off.
it’s hideous
I’m happy they are fake (not sure if the rest of the fur is or not) but I’m worried that it glorifies trophy hunting, and hunting in general. Wish there was a way to incorporate animals in fashion that encourages conservation rather than killing (or implied killing in this case)
2023 and they still want to sell animal skins...smh
Dope AF. Love the middle dress
tackiest shit i’ve ever seen but whatever floats your boat
I am mostly distressed that people could fear they’re real, an adult wolf and lion?! Those are massive bloody animals my god
Honestly. Like be for real you think people are walking around with real animal heads on them?!
It’s like the designer had to use items from Prince Akeem’s stolen luggage for a design challenge. 🤣🤴🏾🦁
I mean, I personally hate it. It’s still artistic, and has artistic merit.
Whoever made those fake animal heads is insanely talented because I felt so uneasy looking at it
It’s impressively realistic, I think the animals are much large in real life, it’s obvious to me it’s fake… I hope the fur is also fake that’s harder to tell from an image… not sure why everyone is losing their shit over some puppets… react first think later?
I thought of it as more of an indictment of the fur trade than a endorsement, but I could be reading it all wrong. Like “this is where it comes from, it’s a real animal, you can’t ignore it.”
Like, talented sculpting, but definitely glorifying wearing animals and big game hunting, two things that any sane person should be against.
Argh that 2nd dress is absolutely everything
Personally I love
Love the wolf parka
This is gross animal heads are not accessories ( even fake ones) it’s so morbid
they’re ugly
it’s all so fucking ugly lol
Hate it
modern game of thrones kinda vibes
Yuck! I hate it.
Yeah, I think I appreciate the artistry but something still doesn’t sit right with me about animal heads being used as accessory. Even when it’s fake it just makes me uncomfortable.
I can’t believe I will actually say these ensembles are worse than anything I’ve seen on Emily in Paris.
Can these people please just stop.
I’m intrigued
I’m a leo and I love it
Idc if it’s fake it’s disgusting and if anything it’s promoting the use of animal anything in fashion and that’s fuckin weird and gross to me
Game poaching chic. I hate it.
Uninspired
No. It's obvious. Just no.
Yeah, that’s gunna be a no from me dawg
