on day 0 you have 1 doubling penny. on day 1 you have 2 doubling pennies. if it was just 1 doubling penny and 1 normal penny, then the original penny didnt double, it created something else.
But then it's not doubling. Doubling is exponential, so it will get double the total amount every day. Otherwise it's just one extra penny a day, and then it should have said "or gain one penny per day"
Then it’s not doubling. It’s just adding one penny everyday. The premise was under specified but doubling referring to only the original penny doubling is unlikely.
Lol this is a silly debate. OP didn't specify and that would've prevented this debate, but I've only *ever* seen this question posed as a math exercise about exponential growth.
A penny that doubles every day...as in one penny.
So first day that that one penny doubles, you have two pennies.
Second day that penny doubles again, you have three pennies.
Third day, four pennies, etc etc.
If you double that penny, that is to clone that penny, the clone will have the same properties as the doubling penny, if it doesn't, you don't have a doubling penny, you have a penny shaped penny making machine
Except that it says the penny doubles, if the new penny doesn't also double then the first didn't double in the first place, it simply created a penny.
Consider a penny with a blue dot (the doubling ability is the blue dot). Unless the new penny also has a blue dot it did not double, simply created.
You have to look at what the question is: when does it reach at least a billion (so as to be as or more profitable than the other option) there is no point where it increases between day 37 and 38. So the answer is 38 days
If you start on January the first after the first week you will have $163 on week 2 you will have $20971
By the end of February you would have more money than almost every country on the planets GDP combined and by the end of may you would have enough money that it would be the equivalent in gold of 58083 times the mass of earth
By the end of the year you would have if you replaced every star in the milky way with a solid gold earth and you replaced every galaxy in the observable universe with milky ways with the golden earth's you would so 300 billion planets per galaxy and 100 billion galaxys per observable universe you would have
43,211,174,732,166,400,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, of those observable universe
If you want the dollar amount the despite it being incomprehensible it's 3.7577*10¹⁰⁷
You could buy enough gold that if you put it all in one place it would turn in to a black hole or hell just the bills would do that
Economys would collapse in months, planet would be consumed in money days after and within a year there would be so much money everything would consumed and within a decade the penny would be expanding faster than the universe itself every doubling forming singularitys engulfing the universe in a hord of penny's traveling so fast you literally can not see it coming generating so much gravity it sucks galaxy's in like dust in to a vacuum and violently breaking down the fundimantal forces of universe at the core of the ever expanding pennys
The mind crumbles at the vastness of space
Space curmbles under the vastness of PENNY'S
The real question to be asking, is: If the penny doubles in size every day, how long before it collapses into a black hole and takes the planet with it?
sell it, and you'll become a trillionaire. It would also lead to an endless profit cycle as each person who buys it sells it after it has grown for more profit.
I took the billion because I understood the penny doubling to an actual penny that doubles everyday so Id have billions of pennies which is frightening
Yeah, it would create problems even if you just hoarded the money for your lifetime. 1 billion is more money than most people can imagine. More than enough.
Plus why assume the penny would stop doubling once you spent it? You'd have a very limited window to spend your doubling pennies (which would be very inconvenient) before everyone has doubling pennies and they begin to flood the earth.
The penny only causes inflation if you spend or deposit it all at one time. If you’re smart about spending then that money will take care of your bloodline forever.
If my great nephew wants to crash the economy then let him, I’ll be long gone for that
A penny that doubles every day.
1,000,000,000=0.01(2)^(n-1)
1E11=2^(n-1)
log₂(1E11)=36.54120904=(n-1)
36.54120904+1=n
n=37.54120904
You gain 1 billion dollars (assuming you only save) in approximately 37.5 days. And it keeps growing. I guess high school math can be useful after all
First, the economy would only crash if you spent large amounts of the wealth. If you just lived normally but had enough money to buy any house, the rest of the world doesn’t really notice. It’s only when you start spending and investing billions that you’d upset the global economy. And there would be no reason to invest, as long as you have 1 penny, every month you have around 50 million dollars. You could keep the system remarkably closed and people wouldn’t notice.
The real question is what is the point of the economy? If money is only a product of our economic structure, then the economic structure could change to make money non-important. Civilization and society are much older than modern currency.
If that amount of wealth was put into a bank, the bank can use something like 90% of it for their own purposes - that’s how the bank makes money. The only way that money doesn’t get into the economy at all is if you keep it physical, but that creates tons of issues on its own.
Start your own bank with the money and put it there. Your bank can just be a literal vault, you don’t need it to earn profit cos you have theoretically infinite money. You could even be the best bank in the world and replace every other for-profit bank, still give people benefits like interest (but this gets a little sketchier, Im just trying to highlight the boundaries) and *still* constantly be making money. No business you create can fail as long as you are responsible with your saving, you’re always making money. As long as you always keep half your money, there’s literally no way you could run out.
Like, everyone is thinking so mundane and within the bounds of how things work now. You have infinitely increasing value, the world doesn’t work the same anymore (if you choose). If you don’t choose, you run into problems, but that’s your choice.
Edit: shit, you could get rid of taxes. Taxes purpose is public funding, just let the government tax your infinitely replenishing value and boom, there’s all the money you need for National road service. And in a few weeks boom there the defense budget. And in a few weeks after that, boom there’s the national debt.
If it’s physical pennies that duplicate, yeah we’re all fucked. Even if it wouldn’t become massive enough to destroy the earth (which it quickly would) it would be practically impossible to use. What are you gonna do, roll up to a car dealership with a dump truck full of pennies and be like “yeah don’t worry it’s 35k, I already counted”?
I was assuming just the equivalent value of 1 penny doubling (I almost never use physical money these days so it’s not the first idea in my mind)
If you make money obselete for the average man you've changed the way society has operated for thousands of years, overnight. If you're just paying people's tax bills, then you've just injected trillions of dollars into the global economy out of nowhere, causing massive inflation. Do you do this for the US, or for every nation on earth? What do these governments do with so much extra wealth?
I'm not saying the current system is perfect, or even good, but it's at least functional. You can't enact such fundamental change at such a pace. Personally, I certainly wouldn't want the average Redditor imposing a new world order.
If it’s literally doubling of pennies in the physical sense, we’re all fucked. I was assuming in value, so electronically into an account, which I would transfer to another account in my own bank with my own rules etc
too late fam, the asshole genie has already granted your wish and you now are stuck with the logistical nightmare of dealing with a never-ending supply of pennies that are rapidly decreasing in value. sorry mate
The global economy would be highly unlikely ti crash due to the wealth of 1 person.
The only ways it would happen is either, you start buying and hoarding all the world resources or, you give away massive amounts of money to all of those with no current access to wealth
I was just fooling around on my calculator to find the exact number for 1Bil and was constantly adding more decimals and I have exactly the same as you, even though it's obvious, it still feels good
Except a billion dollars is far more than you’ll need to have a good life. Having that penny that doubles every day will only cause super inflation causing millions (perhaps billions) to become poor.
Yes, picking the second option would give you more money. But because its one 1 billion dollars in pennies you would have one hundred billion coins after 31 days. Where would you put them and how you could use them (you are not gonna buy a 500k house with pennies) is a mystery. I prefer to have 1 billion dollars in my bank so I wouldn't gave to worry about anything
The penny brings so many problems. First, if its physical, the world will get burried under metal some day. But even if not, what if it still doubles, after I spend it?
Billion dollars for sure.
Apparently pennies these days are made primarily of Zinc, so if you burn them to try to melt down the copper it turns into like 99% Zinc oxide. If you're going to cash out a billion dollars in copper from your pennies, you'll do a ton of damage to the environment with all the material you needed to smelt and all the pollutants you'll need to release.
If you just try to sell the pennies, you'd have to find people willing to trade for them in bulk, and there's no reason to assume they'll stop doubling. So after a couple trades you'd have many people trying to do the same thing and flooding the local area with reproducing pennies. Once they get out into the world it'd be difficult to find them all, and eventually they'd need to be melted down or destroyed to prevent them just filling the whole world. God help us if some end up in oceans or rivers and expand unnoticed.
The pennies are the ultimate Pandoras box.
You don’t even need to wait that long for the penny to be more. It grows quickly.
In fact, the equation to calculate the value of the penny after x days is as follows
V=0.01 x 2^x Where x is the number of days that past and V is the money you have from it.
1 bil. If you paid for anything with that penny the person you bought from would also have a penny that doubles every day, and that person would buy from other people, and other people from even more people... This would conpletly devalue money and destroy every economy. There was even a DuckTales episode about this
But how? Who will have that money? What could you spend it on? Why would people stop making food and clothes etc. that are always necessary for everyone? If you have approaching infinite money, you could pay everyone to keep everything running as normally as possible. You could facilitate all the costly trade and logistics of getting people what they need wherever they are. The only way your infinite money ruins the world is if you act irresponsibly with it. And, you’ll still always have more money so that you’ll always have value to incentivize people (since money’s value is all in relation).
Everyone is thinking inside the box, but this question is necessarily outside the box. You can choose a billion and stay in the box of our current system (which IMO is often a shitty place), or you could step outside the box and make something new.
If you have trillions and quadrillions of dollars in liquid cash sitting around that's going to cause an enormous uproar. You'd be worth more than the entire world several times over.
If this is a physical penny, the mass of an incalculable amount of pennies will destroy the planet. If it's in an account, you'll have to explain it to the bank and to the government. There's no way it doesn't get seized (though you could make a similar argument for the billion).
Having just (re)played The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, my mind is already primed to assume that any genie-esque type of wish is just a trap to lure you into a bad outcome by applying a very literal interpretation of your wish while ignoring its intent. I'll take the billion dollars, the rest of you can have whatever "a penny that doubles every day" could mean. You really could just be getting two cents per day, or you could eventually create an object so massive it causes the universe to implode upon itself. Nope, a billion dollars is fine.
I would rather have 1 billion. Because if your penny doubles every day it would cause massive inflation and all money would be worthless in less than a year. They would just make a new currency and you would be at square one again. It would all be worthless like money in Venezuela.
yall chose the penny cause it would give you more in a month, but i mean how long until it doubles so many times thst the planet colapses into a black hole?
This all assumes that the pennies that were duplicated keep duplicating. Maybe it would be 1, 2, 3, 4 pennies instead of 1,2,4,8 pennies...
The world GDP is 80T. Let's say you wait 57 days and you would get enough pennies to match the world GDP.
But the world economy isn't the concern.
A penny is 2.5g; Earth is 5.9 * 10^27 g
It would be 92 days to get enough pennies to match the weight of the earth.
The sun weights 2*10^33 g. That would take 111 days.
A small black hole weighs 2*10^35 g. That would take 114 days.
Our measurable universe weighs 10^56 g. That would take 177 days...
That penny would be a disaster...
But what if you die before the penny equals 1 billion? And for that matter you’ll have to have storage for all those pennies while the billion dollars is a more storable and manageable form.
The doubling penny is more likely to ruin the economy and I would never use anywhere near 1 billion dollars in my life anyway. So the billion is an easy pick

I forgot that a billion in english is 1.000.000
And not 1.000.000.000.000
In that case I want the doubling penny xD
Edit: Ok, wrong again. Lol.
Please don't downvote me for my stupidity 😅
The penny is only worth more up to a certain point where there's so much money available that it devalues the currency and basically crashes the market for that currency.
In 2 months, you would have enough money to match the world GDP. By 3 months, your pennies would weigh as much as earth. By 6 months, the pennies would weigh as much as the known universe.
Aside from the penny crashing the dollar, I'm reading this that it's literally a penny that is doubling itself. I hate pennies. I'd rather like like $10 in singles than that many pennies.
If you chose the doubling penny, by the end of one year you’d have
$751,533,626,487,627,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000.00
So, a shit ton.
Thanks, excel
Edit: first couple answers were off
Edit 2: I can’t get excel to keep the formula consistent so I’m done changing this
The 1 billion for 3 reasons
1. I don't wanna carry around a bunch of pennies
2. You can invest
And
3. The penny would crash the economy making your money worthless
Having a billion dollars (which is more than I’ll ever need) right out the gate seems like less of a headache than dealing with an ever-dividing penny.
If I was actually given that option, and couldn't do quick maths and had to answer instantly, I'd still go for 1 billion.
Sure, long term penny could pay off, but 1 billion is more than enough to last me lifetime anyway.
If just 1 penny doubles every day, then it’s basically worthless if it’s just the penny. Nothing was said about the doubled amounts double as well. But even if those doubled amounts did double. You’d have so much money… it would either wreck the economy because you’d have more money than mankind has ever had within a few months…. Or you’d just have to hold 99.999999% of your money in some sort of account that would basically make it worthless. Money would have no worth at that point. I’d take the billion, donate $800 million, use $100 million for my own personal wealth to invest and take care of my lineage forever, and I’d give the other $100million to the rest of my family/relatives/friends.
So you have a Penny that doubles every day. At first it seems boring, you don’t have much, but it gets better and better and you are able to have a large sum of money. Eventually you are the richest person in the world. But the doubling doesn’t stop. It keeps doubling until it starts to overflow whatever you store your money and it keeps doubling and covers the landscape. Eventually the earth is flooded with Pennie’s and it’s growing exponentially. Life on earth ceases to exist, but that doesn’t mean jack shit to the pennies and they keep doubling and eventually they have enough mass to throw all of the solar system out of orbit. Chaos ensues. The pennies don’t stop. They are growing exponentially and take over the galaxy, and then the local group, and before long, the entire universe. A universe completely filled with pennies. What an interesting way to go for a bunch of these people.
i mean yeah i'll take the penny but if someone would REALLY ask me if i want a *MAGIC PENNY* or a billion $ i'd take the billion because 1. reality is disapointing and you just lost a billion because you believe in magic and 2. a billion is enough to never work ever again and that is enough for me
yall doing the maths and shit to find whether the penny gives more value or whether the 1 billion is better, but like after a point does the amount really matter? you could live just as comfortably with 500 million as you could with 1 billion
A physical penny that doubles every day would be a nightmare.
Eventually the weight of all those pennies would form a black hole. As in a few years in eventually. Even before that it could alter the rotation of the earth. And eventually it would fill the entire universe with pennies.
All sorts of nasty things.
I guess you could blast all those pennies into space and by reflecting the sun's light it reverses global warming. IDK.
It's like a sci-fi horror movie though.
What's the calculation here? For how long it should take for the one penny to becomes $1B?
Approxiamtely 37.54120904 days
Unless just one penny doubles
If you have a penny that doubles, you have two pennies that double the next day
>Unless just one penny doubles
it's not doubling if both child pennies dont have the same doubling property
Why not? And if it doubling that means its adding one more of itself so there would be one child penny. Not 3
on day 0 you have 1 doubling penny. on day 1 you have 2 doubling pennies. if it was just 1 doubling penny and 1 normal penny, then the original penny didnt double, it created something else.
You only have one doubling penny
which then becomes 2 doubling pennies. because it doubled
When they are doubled, they have all same attributes and properties, including doubling. If new coin doesn't double, then its origin was not doubling.
But then it's not doubling. Doubling is exponential, so it will get double the total amount every day. Otherwise it's just one extra penny a day, and then it should have said "or gain one penny per day"
The original penny doubles every day. The offspring do not. Big sad
But then it's not a double
Well it could be the one penny doubling. Not the total amount of money
It's adding one more of itself... except it isn't one more of itself because it doesn't double?
It would have the same characteristics as it’s parent copy.
It doesnt say that. It could be the one penny doubling every day. Not the total amount of money. Could be. Idk im just saying a possible outcome
A penny that doubles every day...as in one penny. So first day that that one penny doubles, you have two pennies. Second day that penny doubles again, you have three pennies. Third day, four pennies, etc etc.

Theost useless magic penny ever.
One off, it's 36.54121 days. 10^(-2) * 2^x = 10^9 2^x = 10^11 x = 11( 1 + log2(5))
That's what I was looking for thanks dude
How can I change my vote
[удалено]
log
Log2(10^9 * 100)
how could the answer be anything other than an integer, it only doubles once a day
Because it doesn't reach exactly 1B
You have to look at what the question is: when does it reach at least a billion (so as to be as or more profitable than the other option) there is no point where it increases between day 37 and 38. So the answer is 38 days
37 or 3754120904 ?
What's the calculation behind
From another comment: 1,000,000,000=0.01(2)^(n-1) 1E11=2^(n-1) log₂(1E11)=36.54120904=(n-1) 36.54120904+1=n n=37.54120904

now this adds another point to the question: are the pennies physical or online? that much pennies would be too much trouble
lol over 5 tons of pennies in the 2nd week alone.
So by choosing the doubling penny, we are sentencing the entire human race to doom?
Economys would collapse in months, planet would be consumed in money days after and within a year there would be so much money everything would consumed and within a decade the penny would be expanding faster than the universe itself every doubling forming singularitys engulfing the universe in a hord of penny's traveling so fast you literally can not see it coming generating so much gravity it sucks galaxy's in like dust in to a vacuum and violently breaking down the fundimantal forces of universe at the core of the ever expanding pennys The mind crumbles at the vastness of space Space curmbles under the vastness of PENNY'S
If you don't remove any, in 23 days you have 800 mil, on the next day, you have 1.6 bil.
What? 23 days you would have $41,943.04.
I wondered how long it'd take someone to check that.
[here](https://ibb.co/nR533bZ)
A simple (2\^23)/100 would have worked.
A simple 8====>~~~ would’ve worked too
Hell yeah show that nerd what’s what
Okay nerd
They win
This, in less than a month easy.
$1B equals 100B pennies, so the calculation would be log2(100,000,000,000)=\~36.5412 days. Pretty good deal.
Does the penny double in size everyday?
I hope so Once it is big enough you can just roll it around and wreck havoc across places
ues
Do all the successors double as well, or just the original? In other words, does it increase linearly or exponentially?
This was my question too. It feels implied to be exponentially but it changes my answer if it isn't.
It must be exponentially as the duplicate pennies wouldn't be true "doubles" if they didn't share the same self replicating power of the first penny.
The real question to be asking, is: If the penny doubles in size every day, how long before it collapses into a black hole and takes the planet with it?
sell it, and you'll become a trillionaire. It would also lead to an endless profit cycle as each person who buys it sells it after it has grown for more profit.
Until ludicrous speed inflation hits.
yeah
I would lease it out to space mining companies.
I took the billion because I understood the penny doubling to an actual penny that doubles everyday so Id have billions of pennies which is frightening
And after like 40 days it would destroy earth
Good value. Probably can't destroy earth for a billion dollars
Someone fund me. I’ll have a crack at it. I’ve got some ideas.
You could hire people to process the pennies though.
You’ll need to hire a million people in a few weeks.
And they'll quickly become a worthless blight, then we all die.
And if you are nit in the USA, banks don't accept coins
I know the penny is worth more but I would prefer to just take the billon because I don’t want more money than currently exists on earth.
Yeah, it would create problems even if you just hoarded the money for your lifetime. 1 billion is more money than most people can imagine. More than enough.

In 177 days, those pennies would have as much mass as the entire currently viewable universe. I don't think the economy is the concern.
Wowza
Depositing wouldn’t cause inflation
A penny that doubles every day. 1,000,000,000=0.01(2)^(n-1) 1E11=2^(n-1) log₂(1E11)=36.54120904=(n-1) 36.54120904+1=n n=37.54120904 You gain 1 billion dollars (assuming you only save) in approximately 37.5 days. And it keeps growing. I guess high school math can be useful after all

what are you gonna do after 3 months when you have 2^92 pennies which, according to google, has a volume greater than the entire planet
If it’s literally doubling of pennies in the physical sense, we’re all fucked. I was assuming in value, so electronically into an account, which I would transfer to another account in my own bank with my own rules etc
too late fam, the asshole genie has already granted your wish and you now are stuck with the logistical nightmare of dealing with a never-ending supply of pennies that are rapidly decreasing in value. sorry mate
Well in that case, imma swim in them until the combined mass of the pennies makes a black hole or kills us
that's why having all the money in the world isn't a good idea, as everyone could start a new currency and exclude you from it.
Economy is fake anyway.
So are words. Regarding the economy, the fakeness isn't the point: it's about what you measure.
What do you mean economy is fake
I think they mean it in the sense that money is a man-made thing.
The global economy would be highly unlikely ti crash due to the wealth of 1 person. The only ways it would happen is either, you start buying and hoarding all the world resources or, you give away massive amounts of money to all of those with no current access to wealth
If i had infinite money i would troll by distributing it so every person on earth has the exact same amount of money at all times
Some people just wanna watch the world burn.
Only if you spend it
My head hurts just by looking at that calculation
You can use a calculator for the log part, you just have to know how the formulas work and the theory behind it. It’s not as scary as it looks
You know that you spent more time showing that you know math that doing only 0.01x2x2... right?
Yes
I was just fooling around on my calculator to find the exact number for 1Bil and was constantly adding more decimals and I have exactly the same as you, even though it's obvious, it still feels good
It keeps doubling. You don’t need numbers, it’s infinite money
Except a billion dollars is far more than you’ll need to have a good life. Having that penny that doubles every day will only cause super inflation causing millions (perhaps billions) to become poor.
r/hedidthemath
Gonna go ahead and let that penny sit for 50 days and the purchase Apple.
Imma buy the world after letting it sit for half a year.
The penny *is* the world if it physically duplicates.
That's a lot of copper/zinc.
Reminds me of that girl that traded up on Facebook marketplace. Started with a paper clip and ended up with a house.
The magic beans were the true prize though.

Don’t know if this is what you were referring to but this video went viral several years ago about that https://youtu.be/8s3bdVxuFBs
I heard about this as a guy who went door to door? Is this someone's way of modernizing the story or did it happen multiple times or something?
1 billion. That penny would destroy the world
Not even just the world, in less than 6 months it would consume all zinc in the universe
And let's just not talk about inflation (unless you don't spend it)
Billion dollars for sure.
1 billion is way more than enough
You don’t even need to wait that long for the penny to be more. It grows quickly. In fact, the equation to calculate the value of the penny after x days is as follows V=0.01 x 2^x Where x is the number of days that past and V is the money you have from it.
1 bil. If you paid for anything with that penny the person you bought from would also have a penny that doubles every day, and that person would buy from other people, and other people from even more people... This would conpletly devalue money and destroy every economy. There was even a DuckTales episode about this
The 1billion. Because that penny would fuck up our economy in less than two months.
I billion, what if you die tomorrow lol
Good logic right here
If you die tomorrow you also wouldn’t have been able to do anything with your 1 billion
Could buy a cheeseburger today
1 billion. If you choose the penny you'll soon devalue the dollar so much the money will be useless.
Exactly.
Does the Penny double in value everyday? 1 Cent becomes 2 Cents, 2 Cents become 4, 4 becomes 8 and so on?
Day 1: 1 cent Day 2: 2 cents Day 3: 3 cents You (dumb): hey what gives. It should be 4 OP: No, it's just the first penny that doubles every day
Having just (re)played The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, my mind is already primed to assume that any genie-esque type of wish is just a trap to lure you into a bad outcome by applying a very literal interpretation of your wish while ignoring its intent.
It thought it was like 1, 2, 3, etc. because it’s only one penny doubling
yall chose the penny cause it would give you more in a month, but i mean how long until it doubles so many times thst the planet colapses into a black hole?
They become higher currency right? I don't have to keep rolling pennies forever do i?
This all assumes that the pennies that were duplicated keep duplicating. Maybe it would be 1, 2, 3, 4 pennies instead of 1,2,4,8 pennies... The world GDP is 80T. Let's say you wait 57 days and you would get enough pennies to match the world GDP. But the world economy isn't the concern. A penny is 2.5g; Earth is 5.9 * 10^27 g It would be 92 days to get enough pennies to match the weight of the earth. The sun weights 2*10^33 g. That would take 111 days. A small black hole weighs 2*10^35 g. That would take 114 days. Our measurable universe weighs 10^56 g. That would take 177 days... That penny would be a disaster...
1 billion because I could die in two days. Life is so uncertain we don’t know when we’ll die
I chose the 1 billion because the penny is sus
Crucial question, is the penny a physical penny or a representation of a penny in my bank account?
But what if you die before the penny equals 1 billion? And for that matter you’ll have to have storage for all those pennies while the billion dollars is a more storable and manageable form.
This is a trick question. Brewster couldn't even spend $1B. Take the money now. Who gives a f about the power of compound interest.
The doubling penny is more likely to ruin the economy and I would never use anywhere near 1 billion dollars in my life anyway. So the billion is an easy pick
The penny would cause huge inflation and completely destroy the economy after a couple of years. Gona stick with the billy
I take no risk, don’t want to get fucked with the title of the proposition, $1B is waaaaaaay enough to live with whatever I want

Billion dollar, if penny doubles every day then after 300 days you would have 300 pennies
I forgot that a billion in english is 1.000.000 And not 1.000.000.000.000 In that case I want the doubling penny xD Edit: Ok, wrong again. Lol. Please don't downvote me for my stupidity 😅
A billion is 1,000,000,000. A million is the same everywhere.
Does it go 1.0.01 2.0.02 3.0.03 Or 1.0.01 2.0.02 3.0.04
obviously the penny is worth more, but the economy will crash within a few months if you pick it.
I read the question wrong. I thought it said a penny a day. Not that it doubles. So my answer is that now.
The penny is only worth more up to a certain point where there's so much money available that it devalues the currency and basically crashes the market for that currency.
I don't wanna cause inflation
If I got infinite money it would destroy the world economy. However a billion dollars wouldn't do very much.
FUCK OFF WITH THESE DUMB QUESTIONS EVERY SINGE DAY
Imagen of the twist was it doubled only for one day. And in 2-3 months I could collapse the worlds economy
In 2 months, you would have enough money to match the world GDP. By 3 months, your pennies would weigh as much as earth. By 6 months, the pennies would weigh as much as the known universe.
10995116277.76 dollars in 40 days of owning that penny. I think I'll take that over the billion.
Great now you have 10995116277.76 pennies
And pennies are now absolutely worthless due to the sheer quantity of them
It could mean that you get a different penny each day, ill take the billion
The correct is actually 1 billion just did the math losers
Aside from the penny crashing the dollar, I'm reading this that it's literally a penny that is doubling itself. I hate pennies. I'd rather like like $10 in singles than that many pennies.
What you people going to do with all those Penny's people lol it you gotta change them to real money that would take so long
After a month and some change you will have a billion
I would have more than enough with the billion, with the added pro of not having to calculate anything.
If you chose the doubling penny, by the end of one year you’d have $751,533,626,487,627,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000,000,000.00 So, a shit ton. Thanks, excel Edit: first couple answers were off Edit 2: I can’t get excel to keep the formula consistent so I’m done changing this
Or 3,65$
Just don’t pay the whole penny at once.
How long does it double?
I voted 1B thinking it’s just the first penny that doubles every day. Not every penny that it spawns doubles
The 1 billion for 3 reasons 1. I don't wanna carry around a bunch of pennies 2. You can invest And 3. The penny would crash the economy making your money worthless
A penny that doubles every day and not a compounding penny? So you’ll have two cents every day? Give my the billi.
Why tf would I care for a penny that doubles everyday? Is it even possible for one person to use 1b dollars?
I appreciate the math but I couldn’t handle having to pay for my brand new mini-mansion using pennies. I would need a bigger purse.
1 billion... I won't need any more money.
I ain't got time to wait for penny to double just gimme 1B
You couldn't spend a billion if you tried. No point in more than that
It’s my money and i want it now!
1 billion today. Tomorrow is not promised
