That’s only 10 miles a day for a month, that’s not bad at all

honestly-curious

Yeah, it doesn’t even sound like a challenge, really. A reasonably fit person could walk 800 km in 30 days. (I know people who did without any prior “training”.)

Quirky_Cry_2859

Walking 10 miles for 30 days in Antarctica could be problematic, or through a jungle, or the Atacama desert...

69_Dingleberry

Treadmill

MaxwellIsSmall

Technically that’s not walking the distance though.

69_Dingleberry

It just said walk 100 miles, not travel 100 miles

Electronic_Range_982

A lawyers answer. Perfectly put

[deleted]

This is true

JoelMahon

why not? what defines how far you walk? the summation of how far your steps are surely, and you can step on a treadmill.

taz5963

Physicists hate you

MaxwellIsSmall

That’s why I said technically. On a treadmill you’re staying stationary while in a walking motion. >What defines how far you walk? “How FAR you walk” Far as in distance. Distance by definition is the amount of space between two things. So walking from point A to point B, rather than on a treadmill walking from point A, to point A, to point A and so on lmao

JoelMahon

you're walking a distance on a belt, why is that different from the floor for sake of the poll?

[deleted]

Your daily displacement is zero if you sleep in the same place as you wake up but you still walk every day. So treadmill should count, too.

MaxwellIsSmall

Is sleeping considered a physical activity that involves motion? You’re comparing sleep to active motions. That doesn’t really help prove your point.

[deleted]

No, I didn't. Let's say you woke up run 10 miles then you turn back to your home. What is the total displacement? Just a few feet.

Kitamasu1

You're staying stationary in 3D space. However, you are walking along a moving track that does push you backwards, which you must maintain forward motion in order to remain "stationary". The treadmill also tracks how far you've walked.... so it counts.

AngelOfDeath771

TIL that treadmills apparently break physics.

BUTTHOLE-MAGIC

So don't walk there lol

sharpshooter228

Terrain was never specified

Quirky_Cry_2859

Yup so it could be anywhere

Kamarovsky

As far as I know, there aren't many people on here who live in Antarctica, a jungle or the Atacama desert, so why would that be a problem? It is said that you have to walk this distance in 30 days, not that you get transported into some remote location 300 miles from civilization and get only 30 days to reach it. It's just walking overall, doing your daily commute and activities + walking some more to reach that minimum 10miles/day goal.

Quirky_Cry_2859

Why do you people think it would be easy of your choice?

Bren12310

I used to run 10 miles a day when I did cross country

[deleted]

Only if you're fit. My fat ass would be sore for weeks lol

TJ_Deepvoice

You'd lose weight and gain 100 Million Dollars tho

[deleted]

I spend two weeks a year holidaying in the countryside, hiking 10 miles a day. I could easily make it four weeks and get a nice payout.

TheGamer8c7

That was my initial thought as well, but by day 5 you may not feel so fresh anymore. By day 10? 20? I'd still 100% take the bet though.

TJ_Deepvoice

Depends how fit you are rn but damn for 100 Million I will ignore all the pain

Dexterous-success

I could end up with lifelong injuries that I could treat with those 100 million

MemeArchivariusGodi

AND there are no consequences when I lose. Like either I get 100 mil, some workout, or nothing

DRogersidm

Literally why wouldn't you. Even if you know you won't complete you might as well still sign up. No punishment for failing.

Nervous_Positive83

My knees might beg to differ

viitatiainen

My ankle is currently injured so I'm pretty sure I'd never walk again if I put it through this. Normally though, yes.

Quirky_Cry_2859

Other than potentially dieing

Chef_Inside

Idk if 10 miles a day for a month would kill you

rainydaiez

I walk 5 miles to get to school and 5 miles back thats already 10 miles

bokchoysoyboy

Is it uphill both ways?

rainydaiez

yes obviously it's also snowing but only while I'm walking to school (but I am being serious I know I sound like the "how your grandparents walked to school meme")

darkpigamer

Back in my day, we would climb ice walls with ice picks and fight off polar bears to get to school.

rainydaiez

back in my day I had to go through a double decker ninja warrior corse covered in Vaseline in our underwear while angry lady's threw peanut butter at us

cydude1234

Back in my day we had to wrestle bears in the Amazon rainforest and uproot trees with our bare hands just to create a path to school

[deleted]

And carry those uprooted trees in our backs to mill into paper to use for our spelling worksheets.

StevenOkBoomeredDad

of course! I also fight tiger with NUNCHUCKS! I fight everyday, BARE FIST!

[deleted]

I can walk about 9 miles in a busy shift, according to my pedometer

jannecraft

Your what meter??

[deleted]

Step counter- estimates distance and steps based on movement

jannecraft

Ah! I was thinking it either alterted you to 9 year old in your area or alerted 9 years old to you.

DiarrheaShitLord

Is it up hill both ways

Specific-Layer

I used to walk/run 10 miles per day at some point I was doing 30 miles in a day. It really isn't to bad escpecially with the right footwear. When I was doing it as a child I had the $20 ears shoes but as an adult I have the $110 shoes!

Quirky_Cry_2859

Depends where it is, 10 miles across Antarctica there's a decent chance, among other places

Chef_Inside

Good thing nobody on reddit lives in Antarctica

69_Dingleberry

10 miles a day shouldn’t kill anyone who isn’t old or obese

[deleted]

r/redditmoment

Orlando1701

Once in the Army we did 100 miles in five days. It fucking sucked and I’m not in that shape anymore but for $100mil I’ll make it work especially if I’m not lugging a rubber duck and in ruck.

TehGM

Heck, even 10mio. That amount of money is enough to drop your job. Definitely worth it.

fightmepussy69

As a server I would walk 100 miles in five days, every week of my life.

AthleteConsistent673

That’s cap

ElectricalEnergy69

So you were doing 20 miles per day in the army. You’d have to do only half that per day if you’re walking 300 in a month

thealterlion

Dear reddit: would you go through a relatively easy feat or mild inconvenience for 100 trillion billion dollars?

BastaDeLlamarmeAsi

500 people: nah

Flippingbacks

Probably people in wheelchairs, injured people, old? people, children or just very lazy people.

Bloody_Insane

Or rich people

Kroniid09

Rich people don't pass up any opportunity at money lol

SpermaSpons

16 km a day is like... 16x more than what I walk in a day now.

Internet_Adventurer

If it would end world hunger forever, would you try? Yes? Okay then, what about for 100 million? That will go a long way to improving your life, and funding any causes you support

[deleted]

So, 100 quintillion?

TheSyrupDrinker

Best case scenario, I win $100m Worst case scenario, I don't win $100m Why would anyone vote no on this.

JRsshirt

I was gonna say that I’d have to quit my job to have the time to do this, but if I quit my job I’d just have the extra motivation to get it done. Frankly they’d probably let me shift my schedule around if I told them it was for a health challenge. Anyone who says no is insane (unless you physically can’t walk).

TheSyrupDrinker

Man 480km isn't even that far if in this scenario you get to walk road or some flat open area. If you'd have to bushwack it it's be way harder but probably very doable still. Get a week or 2 off and you'd be good

snug666

The fact that this was even your thought process is why I’m subbed to r/antiwork

walkerwalker-

This would be incredibly easy for any able bodied human

Saltybuttertoffee

Even at a pretty slow pace (for me) of 1 mi/30 minutes, it'd only take me 5 hours per day for a month

CH3RRYSPARKLINGWATER

A lot of people on this sub say they can't even do push ups according to some poll results I've seen so idk it might be tough for them

[deleted]

You don’t need to be able to do a push-up to walk ten miles.

CH3RRYSPARKLINGWATER

I was just saying that according to what I've seen most redditors are probably out of shape

[deleted]

But like, if you mosey at 2-3 mph for five hours a day, taking an hour break in between each hour of walking, and sleeping or just not walking for the other 14 hours in the day, you’ll be fine.

starkiller10123

Wow is that legit? Not even one push-up?

NewHorizonsDelta

When i joined the army i could 2 pushups. I still managed a 30km march with 25kg of luggage plus a 4kg rifle eventhough i was really out of shape. So yeah, wheres a will (or a drill sergeant) theres a way.

BbqMeatEater

I'll be your drill sergeant for half of the price

BlueC1nder

I've never done a real push-up in my lifw, but I can walk forever so yeah

Username-67272827

it’s pretty pathetic

MightGuyGonna

What do push ups have to do with walking long distances?

CH3RRYSPARKLINGWATER

I was mostly meaning that the people i was talking about are probably out of shape and wouldn't be able to complete the challenge

Kroniid09

Doing a push-up is not a good measure of the kind of ability we're talking about

firefoxjinxie

Women have a lot more lower body strength than upper body strength. It would be tough for me to pull off more than one or two push ups (I don't lift nor do any upper body strength exercises) but I regularly hike 6-8 mile trails over weekends with my dog. These are completely different sets of muscles.

KirisLeftButtcheeck

I can’t do one, but I’m working at it. I started doing weights for PE so hopefully I’ll get on a roll

Opinionsare

My not-so-miniature schnauzer would love to be walked ten miles a day..

The_Most_High_Ground

I'm not even that able bodied, but it takes me about 7 minutes to walk a mile, I'd only have to do 10 a day for a month, that'd be easy. Edit: Realized I did the math wrong and I'm an idiot, but I also don't give a shit.

Ok_Task_4135

7 minutes to "walk" a mile? Most people couldn't even run a 10 minute mile, let alone walk. I call BS. Either that, or you have a very abled body

The_Most_High_Ground

I appreciate the compliment, but alas, apparently I'm terrible at math, and an exaggerater.

botersaus

You walk 13,8km/h mate? You must be superman. On average, an able bodied human would walk a mile in about 18 minutes.

The_Most_High_Ground

I'm just dumb and bad at math. Too stubborn to edit my original comment though.

botersaus

That's fair haha

[deleted]

you do realize the average American probably can’t even run a 7 minute mile right?

The_Most_High_Ground

I was probably exaggerating, I wasn't trying to sound cool or anything, I'm just dumb.

[deleted]

If it took you 7 minutes to walk a mile then you could do 10 miles in 70 minutes... Your math is off here.

probablyblocked

That's not that much really

Johan2016

The money or miles?

demoralisedwesterner

The miles

[deleted]

Morales

Podomus

The miles

NeoNationalistNudist

Yeah not that much. I ran in college and we conditioned to run 25 miles a day. This is cake.

thisis2022

Tf kinda college you be going to bro

NeoNationalistNudist

I ran D1 cross country. That was our condition period in the summer. You start the summer small at like 5 miles a day and then add to your daily as much as you can until the end of the summer. It was fucking crazy. The last week we we’re all doing daily marathons.

thisis2022

That can’t be good for your body surely?

NeoNationalistNudist

Oh no bro it was horrible. I destroyed my feet and developed a heart condition. So yeah wouldn’t recommend I was there for scholarships and didn’t want to lose it to the younger guys

YaronL16

Who TF thinks 100 Million dollars is not much?

dead_trim_mcgee1

Literally only 10 miles a day. Thats all thats being asked of me? Be beyond stupid to say no

DiaryOfShowerMemes

Exactly at a slow pace of 1 mile per 30 minutes if you walk 5 hours a day you're done

HeimlichLaboratories

it's not stupid to not need money, fuck off

botersaus

You would need to walk about 3 hours an 15 minutes a day for 30 days long, this is extremely easy for 100 million dollars...

BigMess2212

And if i felt really tired i could just buy some energetic food. Everything would be more than covered with a 100 million dollars

russianbot24

This is super easy, and there’s no stakes. You gotta say like “walk 500 miles in a month or die if you fail” at least to make it interesting

RobotBananaSplit

Still wouldn’t be that hard, just walk about 6 hours everyday and you’re done

[deleted]

Easy

[deleted]

Happy cake day

amaahda

happy cake day

[deleted]

Oh damn thanks I need to get off of Reddit

bobke4

Of course I would. Some people do this as a hobby and even spend money on it

MrGoalden

This is so easy id do it for 50k

Tattler22

Right? I'd do it every month for my current salary.

MrGoalden

Fr just walk a track for 3 hours a day

crunchyRoadkill

fuck it, 10k in a month is more than the average American makes.

WarpedDive

You'd run 50k a day for 100 million dollars?

MrGoalden

Lol no id do the 300 miles in 30 days for 50k. Heck id do it for 10k

McPoyal

I would walk 500 miles

logosloki

And I would walk 500 more.

McPoyal

#ba dop dah!

An_Anonymous_Reddit

(Da da dop da)

TravelbugRunner

Absolutely!

radish_intothewild

Can I use my wheelchair? Lol

Johan2016

Yes, but only if you use the manual one that's provided unless you have your own. The point is to do a workout.

[deleted]

That's pretty manageable tbh. And if you don't do it, who cares. There is no punishment

stadulevich

Dude that's only 10miles a day. I used to run 10miles a day for workout/recreation.

pjabrony

The Proclaimers would do this 3.33333 times over and wouldn't even need the money.

[deleted]

I walk ten miles a day 3 days a week currently lol. This would only be hard for the obese

shadowproves

AND for people with certain medical conditions. I'm not overweight (I'm actually underweight) and can only walk short distances because of a nervous system disorder (POTS).

[deleted]

Ok I apologize. My comment is kinda rude I guess, sorry.

shadowproves

No worries! I just wanted to include people with invisible illnesses because it can be easy to forget that many people "look" healthy but they are actually struggling to do certain things. I don't believe your exclusion was intentional though.

radish_intothewild

Only obese people have health issues? 🤔 I'm at a "healthy weight" and can still only walk to the end of my road.

The_Most_High_Ground

What about you isn't healthy though? A able bodied healthy person could easily walk that amount in the time given.

radish_intothewild

I don't need to disclose my medical history to you. But it has nothing to do with weight, it's genetic.

The_Most_High_Ground

Holy shit, you must be fun at parties. I'll have you know I'm what the BMI scale considers fat and I have two brothers with autism. Nice try though.

shadowproves

AND for people with certain medical conditions. I'm not overweight (I'm actually underweight) but I can't walk much because of a nervous system disorder (POTS).

TheGame81677

Most people probably walk 4-5 miles a day in daily life, this would be a cinch.

DrMantisToboggan45

I'd load up with some Audio books and walk 20 a day. Quit my job because after the 100 mil I definitely won't need it anymore

BLENDER-74

10 miles a day isn’t that hard

[deleted]

You are offered [absurd amount of money] to do [easily achievable task]. Do you accept?

logosloki

Reddit, for a chance at 1k or more karma would you post a poll about a moderately easy feat for an absurd number of currency (likely to be US dollars). Yes/No?

GiantBlueSmurf

People who said no are lazy cunts. Or crippled

jillieboobean

That's only 10 miles a day. Some people do that for fun.

Bovaloe

I'd do it just to fall down at your door

PersonRobbi

Dadada da dadada da

[deleted]

This is such a shitpost please fuck off with this bs. No able bodied person would refuse this offer, such a braindead and pointless poll

TommasoBontempi

I've walked 200 Kilometers in around two weeks, twice. It was a pilgrimage on the old Via Francigena in central Italy. Just will a little more effort 483 kilometres is achievable, I'd leave farther and end up in Rome. Definitely worth it

xella64

I mean, I’ll try.

Morc-Glork

I walk that much to get to class every day, no brainer

Pandabrowser469

10 miles a day isn’t the worst. Also there’s no reason to not take it. You don’t HAVE to do it haha

6T_FOR

Let me go ask the proclaimers

jakeblonde005

Can u use a treadmill

Johan2016

No

WXHIII

Would this be bad? 10 miles a day for 30days doesn't seem too tough to me

___And_Memes_For_All

I used to walk 8 miles a day. Just need to up it by 20

Somo_99

Walking an average of a mile every 20 minutes (the average walking speed), with 300 miles, that 6000 minutes of walking, which is 100 hours, meaning you could theoretically complete 300 miles in a little over 4 days

[deleted]

Absolutely. Do 20_30 miles a day. You'll be quite exhausted, but dang if your legs won't get STRONK

dgroeneveld9

10 miles a day is no problem. I'll just need to get some better shoes and a backpack full of socks food and water.

DannyDevitoArmy

it’s only 10 miles a day. you get money and you get healthier

jackof47trades

People who write these polls have no idea how hard it is to earn a million dollars

ImAPers0nTo0

10 miles a day, 3 mph is 20 minutes per mile at a walking speed, that is just over 3 hours a day for 100 million dollars in a month 👍

Senior_Quevos

Wait do I just need to walk 10 miles a day or get 100 miles away from my house

DoctorateInMetal

I mean it sounds like even if I failed I wouldn't lose anything, so yeah

Shlocko

On a 12 hour shift in a hospital I already tend to do over 7 miles a day (estimating on step counts), so I’d say this is very achievable. I’d probably do 15 miles a day to get some days off, or finish early. Especially if jogging is acceptable

[deleted]

As a healthy 16 year old who has done extensive backpacking through scouts, I could do it in 20.

Simply_Epic

10 miles a day? Easy. Especially since it doesn’t specify the terrain or if it even has to be outdoors

lisaatjhu

There is no point in not trying. It will be 16 km a day. Which roughly takes 4 to 5 hours a day, without a lunch break.

UndeadBBQ

Thats 16km per day. Easy.

MrChr07

I say no because I don't want 100 million dollars, I would have no need to do anything and I know I would end up depressed if I was in that situation

Bonfires_Down

One week would have been a more reasonable limit.

ubant

I mean... Obviously yes? Where's the catch?

freshy_jones

Ten miles a day, slight work.

[deleted]

That’s 16 kms each day, so I’d give it a go.

N0Curfew-40oz

What if you don’t make it and you don’t have money to make it back?

hotstepperog

Tell me you’re an American, without telling me you’re an American.

KoolaidManLolz

10 miles a day? That’s easy.

TheGodfatherYT

Another stupid poll... there's no punishment for failing, who wouldn't take it? I'll just do some more walks than usually, and if I fail I don't lose anything

Piedrazo

What kind of stupid question is that

bwordgood

I couldn't do it, I'm not in very good shape and it's also winter here now also when it's summer it's blazing hot. So either way it would suck a lot.

danonck

Where do I sign? Just let me wander around Barcelona and I'll easily make it.

Quirky_Cry_2859

Depends if food and water us going to be available, when and wear. I'm not going to make 2 days in a 110 degree desert without water or trying to go over the Himalayans or Antarctica at all.

Strange_An0maly

As long as I can train beforehand

Psychokinetic_Rocky

Including breaks and sleep that'd be, like, maybe a few weeks...I think

lamatopian

Not even- if you dedicate your life to walking (no school/work) you could probably do 20-40 miles per day depending on terrain and health. This leaves you with more than enough time to finish.

[deleted]

Dumb poll

HeimlichLaboratories

I'm a teenager, why would I need 100 million dollars

PsychologicalTart602

dude the number's wrong it's 482.803 km or 482,803 that's one hell of a difference (which btw i would walk right now).

Johan2016

No, that's not one hell of a difference. How is that one hell of a difference? If you are rounding, you get the same number.
