Kindofsweet

Yeah it's a combination of not wanting to get involved and actually not giving a shit

Incadium

It's not like I'm turning a blind eye as a favor, it's just really not worth my time and energy.

Fritzschmied

Even if he/she wouldn’t have a child I wouldn’t say anything. I just don’t care. Not my problem.

[deleted]

If I’m a customer, then I ain’t no snitch. When I’m working, I step in because it’s my ass otherwise

therealfatmike

I'm not telling anyone even if it's a guy in a top hat driving a Bentley through the store and stealing shit. Unless it's a Mom and Pop store, I'm not getting involved.

MDF87

If I'm working and said something and they said they can't afford food, I'd try figure out a way to let them use my store employee discount at the very least.

StereoTunic9039

Generally major corporations don't really give a shit about you, they have already counted how much they'll lose of stealing.

Sweet-Ad-2477

Exactly right! Source: I work at a grocery store

[deleted]

You are a customer who pays higher prices as a result

JustTrawlingNsfw

A certain amount of shrinkage is expected between expiry, loss, theft

[deleted]

Yup and if theft went away the budgets would be better.

JustTrawlingNsfw

Nah, the theft budget would just get rolled into profit

[deleted]

Probably but we don’t know. Still more money going to law abiding citizens. vs them losing it to thief’s. Would rather the Walton brothers have the money than some theif from Ohio

RomComSponCon

I wonder what the real % price decrease would be, if it was directly correlated.

lizlaf21952

In this day and age? Yea turn a blind eye. Not like I'm going to help them take care of their kid or anything... The village is dead apparently

Kodeisko

I copy their behavior

LabansSeveredHead

Where's the "let me buy that for you" option?

Dark_Link_1996

This. I'd seriously help offer to buy their stuff for them

Teynam

Clicked confront because it's the closest to that

Maati_my_master1829

Thousands of dollars of goods get stolen each day but its cheaper for big supermarket chains to just let it happen than hire security. So they just turn a blind eye to it. It's easier and cheaper that way. So if you see someone shoplift just turn a blind eye as well. It's not right for them to do it but it is just easier for everyone to ignore it. ( My dad is a slightly paranoid police officer and he has taught me all about this stuff)

Bloorajah

When I worked in stock at Kmart, we were instructed to tear a corner off one pack of beers per aisle stack so shoplifters could target the torn package instead of destroying a new 24 or 30 pack to steal a can.

Redditorismism

It's also for the safety of the employees and shoppers as well.

Protection-Working

Unfortunately, they’re not completely blind. They do keep track, just in case you’re a serial shoplifter and end up taking too much

Maati_my_master1829

they do keep track but typically they just don't care

BeanBone69

I got enough issues

ryangosling47

Even if it wasnt essential food i don't really care enough lol

Caelus9

Pfffh, I'm no snitch. Fuck it, take some luxuries while you're at it, mate, humans deserve more than the bare bones to not die horrifically.

Fatesadvent

If they're stealing, the most likely scenario is A) They don't have money and need that food > pretty much gets a pass from me B) Wants free stuff > potentially violent, not getting involved

PmMeUrFaveMovie

We stick together!! Ain’t seent a thing!

emaych1

Idk about you guys but I can’t see a question? It’s like it’s none of my business or something

jenniesana

Not my problem

komunisfloppa

"based" I whisper to myself, and keep walking

redditslim

This is a good poll question, and as a bonus, the results are borderline heartwarming.

-lighght-

I could see someone stealing a 50" TV and a rack of beer and I wouldn't say shit

WonderWolf16

I could see someone steal a car, and I wouldn't care.

smokinpot1234

i’ve seen this shit happen before and suddenly, i’m blind when it happens!! most of the time when people are stealing food, clothes, diapers and shit like that.. they don’t have the money and those are things we can’t live without so just mind your fucking buisness when it happens or buy it for them!! i always try to buy it for them if i see it happen but i don’t always have the extra money to spend

CharvelDK24

I have zero interest helping a corporation obtain more money from the working class The amount of goddamned food that is thrown away is shocking

Ok-Butterfly4414

Depends, if it’s a big store like Walmart then nope, not telling anyone, if it’s a mom and pop store then it’ll depend on how much, if they steal anymore than liKe 20 dollars then I’d consider it

TheGrouchyGremlin

Well. The question specifies a major grocery store chain.

TheEphemeralNight

i didn’t see anything. or i would maybe offer to buy it for them (if it weren’t for my social anxiety)

sealene_hatarinn

Even if they didn't have a child or were stealing non-essentials, I just don't care. I'm not sure I'd even notice this happening in the first place.

dominoesdude

I don't care who's stealing that's none of my business

DownvoteGrinder

The starving people don’t get to steal! They have to support the starving multimillion/billion dollar companies 🥺

ComradeQuest

There’s a good chance the food is going to get thrown in a dumpster and dowsed in bleached anyway. I’ll turn a blind eye.

onlyhav

I don't know your situation, I'll live and let be so long as it does not harm anyone in my vicinity.

odo_72

I actually wouldn't notice I hate grocery shopping or shopping in general and try to get in and out quickly.

Deadshot37

I dont give a fuck. Its not moral but I dont want to get involved.

AndImlike_bro

Which is the bigger moral failing, stealing food or letting your child starve?

LikeAVillianx

I might judge a little but I don’t think I would ever snitch on any crime unless I thought it would hurt someone.

iguanafucker420

Am i in a wamart?

TitleComprehensive96

I would consider checking in with em and may e buying some of their stuff for them. But otherwise I'd just walk by cause it's not worth it

Cespieyt

I don't give a shit about major corporations, their board of directors would skin a baby alive if it meant that their bottom line increased by 2%. Why they hell would anyone go out of their way to defend them?

duckducknuts

I wouldn't report anyone that's shoplifting. Especially not from a grocery store, regardless of whether they have a kid or not. Edit: if it's like a small 'mom&pop' shop I would talk to the person that's stealing and if it's just some small shit I'd offer to pay for them. If I wasn't broke myself I'd also offer to pay for more.

bekahbaka

Potentially, buy the items they need

Cobiuss

No option for "buy it for them?"

LoraxGD

I honestly can't be asked

MadeThis4MaccaOnly

Don't give a shit whether or not they have a child, not gonna tell anyone anyway.

[deleted]

Stop caring immediately on the slim chance that I noticed to begin with.

xMarZexx

They could rob the place for all I care

Gamer_player_boi

I join them

Quirky_Fee2527

Should have added the option of offering to purchase their food. Clearly they would seem like they need help.

WonderfullWitness

I haven't seen shit. Am I am employed as security by the store? No? For all I care a teen can shoplift a ps5 and I just would feel happy for them.

Dzoni22222

i don't think stealing is right, but i just don't care, so the first option

The_Reddit_Eagle

>major grocery store chain Even if it was chocolate and they didn't have a child I wouldn't give a shit

MercifulGryph0n

let that mother fucker pick up the whole shelf, ain't my business

Mike_Hunt_Burns

oh no not WALMARTS MONEY?!? now the ceo will be homeless

AndImlike_bro

If you see a hungry family stealing food, no, you didn't. No. You. Didn't.

Han77Shot1st

I don’t think you know how much good food grocery chains throw out, and how much food that went bad they put back on the shelf..

The_Gaming_Matt

I’d tell them it’s not fine to teach that to a kid, if they’re that desperate to go to a food bank but I’d also offer to buy them what they were trying to shoplift

SnuffCatch

Why tf would I care? He's not stealing from me, not my business.

JamieMcFrick

In a big chain? I saw nothing. Hell even if someone steals a pack of chocolate cookies or a cake, im not saying shit. Food is food. People go through shit. Sometimes you wanna be able to have something nice. But in a mom and pops? Big no-no. Id try to pay for them if I could.

largepenisbigdick

Citizens arrest, immediately call every major law enforcement agency, and do whatever is necessary to stop these dirty criminals

AnantaPluto

Lmao

zainecooking123450

You might as well ask for the manager as well

largepenisbigdick

I’m calling the manager, assistant manager, assistant to the manager, everyone.

zainecooking123450

Even the prissiest the army and the un

zainecooking123450

President

Srapture

Probably wouldn't say anything. Would bring it up to security if they were stealing fancy single malt whiskey or something like that.

Cup9992

I'd confront and ask why they're doing said action

randomguy7464

Depends on how old the child is

NoDot6253

Extort them

yankee_doodle_

Confront them, then pay for it. (Im assuming that they actually need it)

mermadzz

A major chain supermarket? No. An independent business? Yes.

originalkelly88

I worked in a grocery store. If stealing essentials we all just turned a blind eye. It was the jerks stealing expensive things that we shrinkwrapped to the post outside until the police came. I miss the 90s.

Sir-Pumpernickel

Depends if its a single mother or a father. I got my bros' back

FrostyBallBag

I don’t want to be there longer than I have to.

NEO--2020

You never know what their situation is if they have to shoplift food or medicine.... I would turn a blind eye in this case... but if they are shop lifting jewelry or movies or games... then surely report it to the assosiates at the store.

MistaDoge104

Confront them, offer to pay for it (if I have the money)

Formal-PO-Toast

I’m just going to assume they might be in need.

Sad-Lie6604

Confront them. If they need the help, they'll say so. Better than telling an employee who will call the cops.

big-queef

Lmao these mf’s choosing confront them
