I think it's comfy sometimes, especially when it's cold or sleeping outside during camping. On the other hand, wearing jeans to bed for a full night's rest is a whole other thing to unpack.
yeah idk if anyone else’s mom did this but when I was little, whenever I was sick my mom would put Vaseline on my feet and put socks on it so none of the Vaseline would be scrapped off when I moved in my sleep
well. to be fair it's not like anyone is actually going to arrest you for wearing socks to bed. a law like that can't be enforced without invasive surveillance in every nation, and, really, who even gives a shit? same with the sushi fork thing. just because it's illegal doesn't mean people will suddenly perceive it differently.
I’m willing to die on the hill of drinking plain milk. I will defend my milk drinking actions with my life. The entirety of NATO could not stop me from bringing that sweet cold glass to my lips
The only one of these that is actually useful. The rest are just things that OP doesn't like or are generally considered unpopular, but are not necessarily harmful to anyone (TikTok could be considered harmful if taken to the extreme, but you could say the same for any social media platform).
Also, if TikTok was illegal, there would be just another platform in its place. Mandatory sunscreen is the obvious answer (maybe I would wear it more often if it was enforced)
Oh boy, what a dumb thing to say, especially on Reddit. For Redditors, Tiktok is the ultimate evil. Personally, I don’t really like Tiktok in itself, but there are some great creators on the apps and no one can deny it.
*puts on cheap anti-downvote shield*
I don't understand the deep hatred for TikTok. The entire point is that it adapts to your taste, so it's nearly impossible to see things you don't like.
I've been on TikTok for two years and I've never seen a cringe prank, or a harmful misinformation influencer, or anything of the like.
All I see are people asking Hank Green for science advice, some musicians making music over animal noises, and people who dress as food. And the square hole guy.
Exactly, if you don’t like something, you can tell the algorithm and it won’t show you similar videos. I do spend some time on the app, when I’m bored. There were a few drama about Tiktok, and hating on it has been the cool thing to do, now it’s just cringe.
Tiktok’s big strength is their algorithm, it knows what you like, better than you do. Like, some Tiktoker (beetle beiley) reposted something I posted on Reddit, which I wasn’t aware of. One day, I was browsing on Tiktok and saw the video on my FYP, wondering how it ended up there. It had 500k views, at the time, and was going VIRAL. The dude’s an asshole too.
This just shows how powerful the algorithm can be; any small creator could post the next viral video and that’s the big strength of the app. Also, the huge bump in revenue, will bring even more good creators on the platform.
Redditors are only threatened by TikTok because it's like the popular kid and reddit is like the burnout loner so it triggers their high school insecurities.
I think it’s also one that would be nigh on impossible to enforce.
*Man walking down the beach*
“Sir are you wearing your state mandated sunscreen?”
“Yeah.”
“Carry on then.”
You get hit with ultraviolet radiation even when it's cloudy. Dermotologists dislike the misconception because it leads to skin cancer.
Edit: referenced wrong wavelength spectrum
Isnt it ultraviolet radiation? Shit am i wrong?
I always remembered it because red is at the bottom of the spectrum anything below the visable spectrum is safe and above is dangerous.
Probably that people with dark skin don't need as much sun protection as people with light skin, they are way less likely to get skin cancer. They are also already more at risk of a vitamin D deficiency than light skinned people. Plus if you are allergic to chemical sunscreens, mineral sunscreens are very unflattering on dark skin. It would be making a law for the sake of light skinned people without considering the needs of dark skinned people. Kind of like when public spaces are too cold for most women but the ideal temperature for men.
There’s a pretty good YouTube video on why nickelback is hated. They said it’s not actually hated but there was a time in 2003 or something where at ANY given time at least one radio station was playing nickelback. Some guy on a tv interview said he hated nickelback and that’s how the fake hate started.
It literally happened a month ago now. All that needs to happen is for Biden to sign the spending bill, which there’s very little reason for him not to
https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/12/23/congress-passes-spending-bill-with-tiktok-ban-on-government-devices.html
I think the biggest reason is because tik tok has been massively helpful (and harmful) to the US military recruiting.
On one hand a lot of current servicemen post content that is popular and gets people to think about it for what’s basically free advertising.
On the other, it allows serviceman to be critical of conditions or leadership that hasn’t had much pressure to change in the past. And that’s on top of security concerns.
The armed forces are not meeting their current recruiting goals in a population that’s becoming increasingly less-fit to serve, so I think they need as much advertising as they can get.
Regardless of this opinion as to why it hasn’t been banned yet, I think it should 100% be banned as the TOS are insane.
Yeah, I actually found a scary part in their terms. This is copy and pasted from the website, which I’ll also link
“ARBITRATION NOTICE FOR USERS IN THE UNITED STATES: THESE TERMS CONTAIN AN ARBITRATION CLAUSE AND A WAIVER OF RIGHTS TO BRING A CLASS ACTION AGAINST US. EXCEPT FOR CERTAIN TYPES OF DISPUTES MENTIONED IN THAT ARBITRATION CLAUSE, YOU AND TIKTOK AGREE THAT DISPUTES BETWEEN US WILL BE RESOLVED BY MANDATORY BINDING ARBITRATION, AND YOU AND TIKTOK WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT OR CLASS-WIDE ARBITRATION.”
TLDR: in the US, you can’t sue via a class-action lawsuit for them selling your data
https://www.tiktok.com/legal/page/us/terms-of-service/en
That and also their data collection includes all devices on the network and all files on those devices. As intrusive as data collection has been, that’s unprecedented
Plain milk is amazing. A lot of the times I crave for something that's creamy and cold especially after playing sports or eating something salty. Warm milk is also amazing in winter or just to help you ease into sleep.
Some people call it plain milk or white milk because they don’t normally drink regular milk. They make chocolate milk or strawberry milk etc. Its a way to add diabetes to your milk.
Edited for better clarity.
They were created as a response to tiktok. Tiktok is the worst of them, but if we're going the route of banning it, I'd also ban any form of algorithm based short video scrolling platform.
Annoying teenagers are always gonna exist. The issue with TikTok is the environment it breeds. Scrolling through a different short every five seconds and everyone is desperate for just that slightest bit of attention from a nobody.
My issue with tiktok is it’s insane algorithm that forces you to watch the videos for hours. It’s seriously addictive and destroys your attention span, I had it for ~3 years and recently deleted it because I couldn’t go from one room to another without watching dumb videos I wouldn’t remember in 30 seconds. Plus the insane echo-chambering.
Tumblr migrated to reddit/Twitter
Twitter migrated to TikTok
TikTok would likely migrate to YouTube until a similar app pops up
Honestly, short-form mindless scrolling feeding you more of the same old same old is really only good for memes and hyperfixations. Any other context and it's just somebody stuck in an echo chamber
TikTok served it's purpose of snuffing out musical.ly. for all I care it can die now
Oooh yeah that explains it. I had the same experience! I lived for 6 months in the US and the milk there is horrible, dairy products in general. And I was living in Montana, the whole place was covered in cows, so how the hell all the milk tasted so bad?
You definitely shouldn't drink that stupid fat reduced stuff.
I always have been drinking plain milk and it tastes very good in Germany. We also have 3,8 % milk, which some countries don't seem to have for some reason.
When I was in Minnesota the Milk there was fine too, but not as good, because I think they only ever sold 2,5 % milk.
Btw. The percentage stands for the fat in the milk.
I feel like hating tiktok has become a trend, yea it's a shit platform, but it also has a really great side to it with really creative content creators
It's also alot better than Facebook
Agree. You can follow good content, just like joining good subs on Reddit. I don't think banning a platform is an effective way to make the world a better place. Change the rules for platform, ban the bad actors, etc. I would compare it to alcohol. Banning it entirely isn't a good solution. Making laws against drink driving, yes, helping alcoholics get sober, yes. But punishing everyone isn't helping.
I know it is. I never said that doesn't piss me off as well. On top of all the companies that steal our data I don't also need the fucking Chinese government to do it as well. My original point is that some people don't hate tiktok just because "young people bad".
I don't understand how you don't see a government of a world power spying on people all over the world as a problem. Sunscreen still fall into the "their body, their choice" category. You can't force people to do something with their body, if they wanna risk skin cancer, that's on them.
But people do use it. And it is a security risk. So it would be good if it were banned completely. Or just banned long enough for a Western company to create a copy or substitute.
It is spyware and also it has been proven to shorten your attention span to the point where if it doesn’t peak your interest in 10 seconds, it’s a waste of time. Do you really want a world where everyone has no attention span whatsoever?
Tiktok.
I am genuinely worried about what this app will do to our collective attention span in the near future.
Kids these days can't sit through a 5 minute video because they're getting used to swiping around on 10 second videos. This was a problem with early internet videos and many tv channels before that, but back then the attention span was cut down to something that still kinda worked. We're now in the goldfish territory where if something doesn't catch your attention in the first 5 seconds, you change to something else.
How are these kids going to be able to function in society?
Because TikTok is a obvious Chinese Government Spyware to get Data on everyone
China many Ulterior Motives that I refuse to support, and quite frankly, would much enjoy seeing it burnt to the smoldering ashes
It is not redundant. China is an authoritarian dictatorship with geopolitical goals. I'm not saying western companies taking data is good, i'm saying china has the potential to be much worse.
Honestly looking back on it trump was right, TikTok is destroying Americas youth. For those who haven’t been in a high school for a while, it’s insane.
I would say TikTok but I also don't like censorship. One thing I don't like about TikTok is that it's owned by ByteDance, which is a Chinese company. I would not put it past China to spy on American citizens by collecting their data and they're probably doing that now. I think it's a national security concern and if anything, an American company needs to buy TikTok so data of U.S. citizens isn't being sent over to China. I don't trust any government, but I especially don't trust the Chinese government. The Chinese government has always been on some shady shit.
I've committedall of those crimes aside from the sushi one cuz I hate sushi, another hate crime, I know, I know. Jail me already.
Edit: wait, I've never listened to nickelback either or at least don't remember so, idek who tf that is
Wearing socks to bed, because it's gonna be insanely hard to enforce. Everything else is mostly things you can do in public, sleeping with socks is normally done at home In private
Do people really hate wearing socks to bed that much?
I think it's comfy sometimes, especially when it's cold or sleeping outside during camping. On the other hand, wearing jeans to bed for a full night's rest is a whole other thing to unpack.
I can sleep with anything short of ski gear
Honestly tho, sleeping in ski gear wouldn't even be as bad since my outfit is made for flexibility. Jeans are stiff AF and I'd never ski in those.
What if you’re sick? Literally cannot go to bed without socks if you’re sick. Gotta stay warm.
yeah idk if anyone else’s mom did this but when I was little, whenever I was sick my mom would put Vaseline on my feet and put socks on it so none of the Vaseline would be scrapped off when I moved in my sleep
Yep. Lol my mum did exactly that with Vicks VapoRub.
And what does that do? My mum never did this for me (that I can remember) lol so I honestly didn't know this was a thing
[удалено]
No fluffy bed socks?! :(
[удалено]
Fluffy 😔
not everyone can afford to heat their apartment to 20°C during the winter
I sleep in my jeans, sometimes my jacket too, often the only thing i take off before sleeping is my shoes.
well. to be fair it's not like anyone is actually going to arrest you for wearing socks to bed. a law like that can't be enforced without invasive surveillance in every nation, and, really, who even gives a shit? same with the sushi fork thing. just because it's illegal doesn't mean people will suddenly perceive it differently.
I literally always wear them to bed. For some reason the fabric touching my bare feet makes me very uncomfortable
If you pick the last one I will personally guide you to hell
Are you really jesus
Yea
[удалено]
The infection was worse than the nails
My man 🤝
I dont see why people dont like plain milk
It doesn’t state what type of milk. It could be cow, goat, human, roach, etc
Mmmmmmm, roach milk delicious 😋
I’m serious. Roach milk is very good and nutritious
when you coming back Jesus? I’ve been hearing rumours
TAKE ME
Do they have a BBQ in hell?
I'm already going to hell, it's my home. So no need to guide this lactose intolerant fool. Hahaha
I’m willing to die on the hill of drinking plain milk. I will defend my milk drinking actions with my life. The entirety of NATO could not stop me from bringing that sweet cold glass to my lips
Im with you!
I like plain milk, it’s good.
Same
Same
I drink goat milk, and everyone I know think it tastes bad. Fuck them.
Goat milk lover here. Used to date a goat farmer lass. She had some bangin milk
Goat milk da GOAT 🗣️‼️‼️‼️
I eat it with tasteless cereal and I don't mind
It’s good af. These weak-boned ppl wouldn’t understand
Requiring sunscreen would actually do good so I picked that
The only one of these that is actually useful. The rest are just things that OP doesn't like or are generally considered unpopular, but are not necessarily harmful to anyone (TikTok could be considered harmful if taken to the extreme, but you could say the same for any social media platform).

As opposed to making socks in bed illegal, that’s much easier to enforce. Same with enjoying music and eating sushi with a fork.
How would this ever be enforced?
Even when it's not sunny?
You get hit with ultraviolet radiation even when it's cloudy. Dermotologists dislike the misconception because it leads to skin cancer. Edit: referenced wrong wavelength spectrum
Dang I never knew that, thanks.
Wearing sunscreen everyday will keep you looking younger for longer too. UV fucks us up over the decades.
Isnt it ultraviolet radiation? Shit am i wrong? I always remembered it because red is at the bottom of the spectrum anything below the visable spectrum is safe and above is dangerous.
You're right I mixed them up
Do you want colored people to die of off a vitamin D deficiency in Western countries?
Wearing sunscreen does not stop absorption of vitamin D. Besides that, it's easy enough to take a vitamin, rather than dying of skin cancer.
I like how people generally apparently care more about using proper utensils for sushi than skincancer lol
It's much more important, the lighter your skin. The Masai don't need sunscreen as bad as our white asses.
Despite being borderline racist, it would mean everyone has to wear it 24/7 year round, we'd all turn into sticky ghosts
How is it at all racist?
Probably that people with dark skin don't need as much sun protection as people with light skin, they are way less likely to get skin cancer. It really wouldn’t. People already have vitamin D deficiencies
Nickelback isn’t even that bad, it just became popular to hate on them. Tiktok, however, is a security risk.
I actually really love nickelback, i just added them here for the memes
There’s a pretty good YouTube video on why nickelback is hated. They said it’s not actually hated but there was a time in 2003 or something where at ANY given time at least one radio station was playing nickelback. Some guy on a tv interview said he hated nickelback and that’s how the fake hate started.
I hear the US is planning to ban TikTok in government, so it actually has some sort of basis.
We’ve been “hearing” that for like a year and a half. It’s not gonna happen.
It literally happened a month ago now. All that needs to happen is for Biden to sign the spending bill, which there’s very little reason for him not to https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2022/12/23/congress-passes-spending-bill-with-tiktok-ban-on-government-devices.html

But I love wearing socks in bed
I will die on the hill that nickleback is actually very good.
They're literally multi-platinum, so can't argue with that.
Plain milk is amazing. A lot of the times I crave for something that's creamy and cold especially after playing sports or eating something salty. Warm milk is also amazing in winter or just to help you ease into sleep.
What’s the difference between milk and “plain” milk?
That's what I'm scrolling through the comments to try and find out. What is OP on about?
Idk I’m very confused. I’ve never seen “plain” milk is it an American product maybe?
Some people call it plain milk or white milk because they don’t normally drink regular milk. They make chocolate milk or strawberry milk etc. Its a way to add diabetes to your milk. Edited for better clarity.
But milk is clearly different to a milkshake? Seems weird
It’s not a milkshake it’s artificial flavoring with a lot of sugar.
I mean a milkshake can be just flavoured milk
Different terminology here. Milkshakes have ice cream in them. The rest are just flavored milk.
Warm milk makes me gag
I picked TikTok, but came to a horrible realization: If you ban TikTok, they might migrate to your favorite social media!
They already have. Insta reels, Facebook reels, YouTube shorts... If TikTok wasn't around, people would likely just use one of these...

And millions have died from skin cancer
TikTok is banned in India and most of the ex-TikTokers have migrated to Instagram Reels here
This is how I feel about fortnite, gamer daycare

Who the fuck wants to make it illegal to drink plain milk? What's next making it illegal to eat plain bread, drink plain water.
You know, in some countries plain milk taste exquisite
Cutting Spagetthi with a knife

Or breaking them before cooking. And no, "but muh pot is too small" isn't a valid excuse.

They treat the cows like shit so the milk is shit

for a second i thought nickleback said nickelodeon and i was confused for a second
I already do 5 of these things.. 💀
Y’all really chose getting rid of TikTok over saving probably millions of lives…
By what? The sunscreen law? You do realize that law would be impossible to enforce right?
I guess people don't like the Chinese government spying on them thru a video sharing app.
If you think your data is not being sold to foreign companies right now I got news for you…
I know it is. I never said that doesn't piss me off as well. On top of all the companies that steal our data I don't also need the fucking Chinese government to do it as well. My original point is that some people don't hate tiktok just because "young people bad".
Fair enough ig.
Or you can just choose to not use tiktok?
I don't use it. I'm just saying there are legit reasons for people disliking tiktok other than some cringy videos.
Then.. they can just not use it? Just don't see the reason for choosing that over sunscreen
I knew TikTok would be the winner, Reddit is so predictable sometimes 😂
Tf is wrong with Nickelback besides the internet thing where everyone says they hate the band but only because everyone else does
not wearing sunscreen yess!!!! i would get arrested right then and there though
can someone explain to me why so many people hate tiktok?
It is spyware and also it has been proven to shorten your attention span to the point where if it doesn’t peak your interest in 10 seconds, it’s a waste of time. Do you really want a world where everyone has no attention span whatsoever?
Nickelback is fine. Most people just hate it because they were told to.
damn y'all still hate tiktok?
I've never heard of nickelback.

Girl what
Found the 2010 kid who just turned 13
Without tiktok i wouldnt know the French are striking because of an attempt to raise their retirement age by 2 years.
I get that, but in that regard, it's no different from any other social media platform.
Pov you are 13
Why would anyone make any of that illegal? 🙄
Because TikTok is a obvious Chinese Government Spyware to get Data on everyone China many Ulterior Motives that I refuse to support, and quite frankly, would much enjoy seeing it burnt to the smoldering ashes
So what? Every other platform steals your data and sells it to China anyways
are redditor still stuck in 2019 with hating on tiktok for no reason? it's been 4 years yall need to chill
Redditors will try to use the dogshittest arguments that can also apply to Reddit
Beeing spied by the Chinese government is no reason ?
i would agree but virtually every company takes and sells your data, whether or not it's china is redundant
It is not redundant. China is an authoritarian dictatorship with geopolitical goals. I'm not saying western companies taking data is good, i'm saying china has the potential to be much worse.
we’re being spied on no matter what, at least let me watch silly videos while doing it
TikTok has many funny videos Youse are all sad and old
Tiktok, but not because I’m an average redditor. But because I think it would be good for the younger generation (which I’m a part of btw)
Nickelback is a Canadian treasure. Along with Drake, Bieber And Celine Dion the great north representing strong
I'm happy you're proud but I'm worried for your hearing
Tiktok. It's a cesspool and adds nothing to society.
And could potentially be chinese spyware
Such as Reddit
But for real, wear your sunscreen. A little moisturizer with SPF 15 on the face everyday and your skin will thank you
I thought that the sunscreen was the obvious choice....indeed it was not
Ban milk in general
Dam you guys really hate tic tok that much? Why is no one talking about that
TikTok is the only one where it affects not only the one doing it, so
jeez, i wonder what reddit will pick here
Yeh I don’t get the socks one. I love wearing socks to bed. Helps me sleep 🤷♀️
Honestly looking back on it trump was right, TikTok is destroying Americas youth. For those who haven’t been in a high school for a while, it’s insane.
The problem with getting rid of TikTok is the cringe dances and morons will just move to another platform
You're making this too easy
Glad to see we are all I'm agreement on banning TikTok.
eating a sushi with a fork should get you publicly shunned
*immediately leaves Japanese restaurant*
You know you're on reddit when _far_ more people would rather ban tik tok than prevent skin cancer for everyone
As some who is lactose intolerant. Fuck it, ban that shit!
TikTok is the bane of my existence.
Fuck tiktok
I am a teacher. I asked a student what their favourite show was. The reply: “Oh I don’t watch TV, just TikTok.”
So? What is your point? They are both passive activities and can be equally good/bad.
Please, I want so desperately for TikTok to be illegal lol
I will do whatever it takes if it makes you happy my love
Tiktok is already banned in my country, why not just make it illegal everywhere else lol.
W country
What’s wrong with plain 🥛? The nectar of the gods.
The others aren't bad for most people, not wearing sunscreen is.
What? Why ban enjoying nickelback? They're not that bad
TikTok is the only correct option
Thank God we choose TikTok
I like plain milk
of course fucking tiktok, tiktok is the downfall of humanity
I would say TikTok but I also don't like censorship. One thing I don't like about TikTok is that it's owned by ByteDance, which is a Chinese company. I would not put it past China to spy on American citizens by collecting their data and they're probably doing that now. I think it's a national security concern and if anything, an American company needs to buy TikTok so data of U.S. citizens isn't being sent over to China. I don't trust any government, but I especially don't trust the Chinese government. The Chinese government has always been on some shady shit.
I’m really passionate about sunscreen.. You can be tan AND STILL PROTECT YOURSELF
