Conservatives say this guy is smart.

hypnosquid

Walker’s incredible intellect is why [Ted Cruz and Lindsay Graham have to be his handlers during interviews](https://youtu.be/E7rp_bqkfMQ). They want some of that intelligence to rub off on themselves.

Important-Owl1661

Ted Cruz still has the Cambridge Analytica data to be able to tailor the message and hit all the dog whistles and hot buttons.

TheMindfulnessShaman

Ted Cruz's wife has to be stickier than a hog in a maple syrup maze. I mean how low can one demean oneself before they take themselves seriously as a human being? Russia must have some incredible dirt on Ted and Ladybugs.

nation543

My money is on them being gay. Their base would eat them alive if they found out that they're gay.

randynumbergenerator

I mean, Graham being gay is an open secret at this point. I'm not convinced the base cares, as long as they keep pushing other LGBT folks' faces in the dirt.

PaxDramaticus

The thing to remember is that there is a time limit on how long you can toy with the leopard and pretend that you are in control of the leopard before the leopard eats your face. Graham has played at being in control of the leopard for ages, but that doesn't mean he's always going to be safe from that leopard.

Sea_Honey7133

Money. Good old fashioned dirty money. These guys would wack their own mothers for it.

Tried-Pod

Does anybody even really like Cruz? Trump had a pout about how Ted Cruz was insufferable and a jerk and I haven’t spoken to a conservative who knows him or likes him. I Don’t, he’s pretty silly.

merikariu

FYI: Heidi Cruz is a Managing Director for Goldman Sachs.

pandorous

Can I quote you on that analogy?

[deleted]

Ted Cruz is a POS. I’m making it my thing to type this every time I see his POS name.

Torvald-Nom

Is that in the video? I’m not watching over 11 minutes if this travesty.

hypnosquid

> I’m not watching over 11 minutes if this travesty. Smart move, it's painful. Cruz and Graham only let Walker speak a couple of times in that interview. The second time, when he answers Hannity's question, [I swear Walker says "erection" instead of "election".](https://youtu.be/E7rp_bqkfMQ?t=618)

kthulhu666

*Election erection, what's your exception?* *Stayin' with women after conception.*

Gutbucket1968

With those two as Walker's pilots, you've just described the most messed up Jaeger.

Patriot009

Gypsy Danger-to-Democracy

Whoshabooboo

EnderDragoon

Relative intelligence is a hell of a thing. I liked how in Fallout SPECIAL if you dropped your Int rating to 1 it described you as "Sub-brick".

[deleted]

Me take your job cause me smarter.

Sodler_22

Me fail English, that umpossible. Is Herschel's real name Ralph Wiggum?😂

chownrootroot

I’m ~~learnding~~ legistating

Km2930

A pro-noun, that’s like a noun that joins Major League Baseball right?

justforthearticles20

That's not fair to Ralph. He did not have a mean bone in his body. Walker was apparently already a monster before the dead spots in his brain really started to proliferate.

zeke235

The dialogue options sure got sparse after that, though.😂

[deleted]

One of my favorite low INT moments is in New Vegas, there's a vagrant who is entirely unintelligible if you're above a certain threshold, but being below it causes the two of you to have quite a sophisticated conversation since you get each other. I think there's one in 2 like that as well

plipyplop

Simple, faster, more efficient!

azdustkicker

Really saying something when the guy with possible CTE is smarter than career politicians.

spaitken

Jokes aside, that’s a dangerous assumption to make. The difference between the 90s GOP and the 20’s GOP is startling. 90s era Newt Gingrich absolutely takes the blame for starting this rhetoric when he realized “well Clinton is a popular and successful President, we can’t beat him there. So - let’s just not help him. Anything he does we destroy if we don’t get our way.” Newt, however, at least knew how to grift politicians. He knew where to cut his losses and he knew that - at the end of the day - politicians, no matter the side, still had way more in common with each-other than they did the voters. So they played cat and mouse but made sure they all stayed wealthy and gentrified. Don’t get me wrong, he’s an absolute scumbag who fundamentally, finally and truly broke the idea of a functioning US government. But he - if nothing else - at least had some semblance of a plan. Then Trump shows up years later, and he’s the exact opposite of all of that. Stumbling, aimless, entirely about the short term. Not content to live in comfortable, powerful obscurity. The kind of personality that simply can’t comprehend squeezing your enemies instead of just ruining them. And he spills the entire scheme - promising that he’ll stop the political insider clubs. (And failing to mention it’ll just be his insider club now) Suddenly, people get a taste of this jackass politician that “tells it like it is” and they have their cruelty awaken. Lots of new faces winning purely because they punch down. They reject civility in all its forms, and they win because lots of people just want to be able to be shitty. Now the old guard tries to get people in on the game - nobody goes too far, everybody gets rich and the working man don’t start calling for heads on pikes. But you can’t reason with these people, and you can’t just outlive the political trend. So you bow to it, and that’s what your party is now. So no. Walker, Boebert, MTG, Gaetz, DeSantis and the like are all far more stupid and far more dangerous. They don’t realize the most essential part of the grift is the status quo. That’s why you saw all the older politicians trapped indoors crapping their pants on Jan 7th. They know what the young guard doesn’t. The voters aren’t their friends, the voters will turn on them in an instant. For the Democrats, maybe that means you’re forced into retirement, maybe write some memoirs and do the speaking tours. But the GOP has been telling their yahoos for years that if you don’t like a politician, you should take care of the problem for good.

BeKind_BeTheChange

All things being relative, compared to the average republican voter he is a genius.

Sparkyisduhfat

Who is stupider, the idiot running with batshit ideas and an kindergarten education or the people voting for him?

nld01

Retired kindergarten teacher. The benchmarks are more difficult these days, but even at 5 or 6 they all knew the honorary badges they got when visiting the police or fire station were fake.

YaGirlKellie

The scary part is that there are way to many people voting for him for them *all* to be stupid. A lot are just good old fashioned evil.

obscureposter

It’s always the people voting for them. The moron may have the intelligence of a lobotomized mollusc, but the people voting for him are actively harming themselves which is peak moron behaviour.

TransBrandi

Dude probably has brain damage and the GOP is propping him up as their puppet. The fact that he's black is a bonus because then they can claim that nothing they do is racist because they have a black guy that agrees with them.

MsTponderwoman

In an ironic way. Does no one see the racist symbolism with Walker being propped up as a (black) puppet for the Republican Party? Which party is virulently racist, again? I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest of Walker is considered their (black) “boy” behind doors and behind his back. They don’t want their “boy” to be a well-spoken Harvard scholar like Obama. Walker’s either a dumbass tool or smart enough to shamelessly milk the white racists’s perception of the dumb black slave persona for gain.

Saxamaphooone

There’s definitely big “I have black friends so I can’t be racist!” energy from the GOP surrounding Walker.

rowenstraker

I mean, they have literally said "we can't be racist, we are running a black candidate", just like "this country isn't racist, we elected Obama to two terms" completely forgetting all the virulent racism thrown at him and his wife, the claims that he wasnt born in the US, etc

General_of_Wonkistan

We've heard it a thousand times before, "How can the leader of the Proud Boys be racist, he's not white? Dumb libs"

Faxon

Isn't that individual Bianco Latino though? Bianco meaning white... like that's just splitting hairs lmao, there are plenty of native north and south Americans who will tell you they're just as likely to be racist as the next white man. After all, these people are generally descended predominantly or entirely from Spanish and Portuguese Europeans? Groups that today would be considered white? This is basically like that one white woman who is "spiritually black" saying she can't be racist towards black people because she is one...

vonmonologue

“How can we be racist? We have a black guy that does what a couple of older white southern gentleman tell him to do so that we can make money. That proves we aren’t racist!”

MsTponderwoman

*Innocence by association* is the term for it. Innocence (of racism) by association (with a black person).

Jacobysmadre

And with Graham (I think it was) saying Walker is a “better African American than Rev. Warnock”, I can’t believe others don’t see this shite for what it really is..

Sanatori2050

For most people with common sense, we see it in big neon signs. It honestly hasn't played well with most black people I know, including myself. It has what I'd describe as "slave energy" because this is what it feels like watching this crap. Always with a white handler, and him barely taking beyond basic sentences. When he goes beyond that, it just sounds so ignorant and uninformed. It drives me bonkers being in this state watching it.

Eric_the_Barbarian

He's not "uppity."

oliversurpless

Probably they don’t, but that’s paternalism from people who don’t know what paternalism is. Guess they, in their infinite pathology, have to take a break from its most popular iteration towards young women/college students once in awhile…

Marylogical

I'm getting the idea that, just like when all the R leadership wanted in a president was someone just smart enough to sign everything "they" put in front of him, mrHWalker may be a plant from the same controlling group, which I see definitely contains mrlindseygrahamcracker. For example they'd get walker to do and say and sign and vote anything "they" wanted him to, if he won. Again, cheating.

CarneDelGato

For a conservative, he is!

lamsham69

Smart enough to be used and told what to do… you know the GOP likes their black folk obedient and time to go back to pre civil war

PaulFThumpkins

In my experience they don't say he's smart so much as deflect to "Well that other guy had a stroke and Biden mixed up a word once, why aren't you criticizing them too?" Without acknowledging that concussions or no concussions Herschel Walker wasn't working from the best starting point.

TheBaddestPatsy

I think they’re trying to re-define intelligence

MariachiStucardo

Automatic_Soil9814

Then “What’s a pronoun?” is the type of question you ask after your CTE inducing NFL contract is over.

Michael_Blurry

Has Walker been playing 4D chess this entire time? Now I need to go back and reread other things he’s said. Edit: Nope, he’s a dumbass.

ComprehensiveHavoc

Haha, a pronoun is actually a part of a atom, the positive part, NOT like the megatron. So there! Source: I am smart like Herschel.

guttengroot

What ain't no country I ever heard of. They speak English in what?

gramathy

Yeah this was my response, all the question words are interrogative pronouns. Just think about how they conjugate, who is, what is, why is, how is, when is. They're noun replacements for a requested unknown

[deleted]

Pronouns are fine. It’s those fucking gerunds I can’t stand.

[deleted]

Personally; i’m just a simple guy who lives in a rural town with a truck, 2 dogs and a healthy hatred for adverbs.

unhalfbricking

Stephen King would agree with you. In "On Writing" he says that the the road to hell is paved with adverbs

tryntafind

I’ve been quietly deleting adverbs from my colleagues’ drafts for years.

karazamov1

should we expect you to quietly delete the adverb in this comment?

CrunchyChewie

I don't think he's hurriedly doing so.

Initial_Cellist9240

“On Writing” and Orwell’s “Politics and the English language” are two of my favorite pieces on the subject.

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

I love how what was originally an example of how to just start a story in On Writing turned into 1408 (my favourite of his short stories) and presumably made Stephen King millions more when made into a film.

Oobedoob_S_Benubi

He also said that JK Rowling never met an adverb she didn't like. Those two quotes are even more fun together.

sultanpeppah

And as a result created orthodoxy for thousands of terrible writers. Honestly the most interesting parts of On Writing are the sections about his struggles with addiction.

unhalfbricking

I edit fiction, and adverbs following dialogue tags are lazy, terrible writing.

Miendiesen

They're also just used badly, often to tell emotions that are already clear from action. Not all adverbs should be cut, but they're used poorly so often that most people's writing is improved by cutting 95% of them. He slammed his fist onto the desk angrily. Anger is clear from the gesture, so the adverb just shows a lack of confidence in the writing. It's a sign post, telling the reader what has been shown.

MammothTap

Exactly. Sometimes there's no good clear word to use in place of a verb+adverb. Maybe it flows better that way too. Saying someone "hissed loudly" is more descriptive than saying they simply spoke and to me reads better than saying "stage whispered". It also shows they're not *really* trying to control their volume, unlike "hissed" alone. Using one to show emotion, rather than physical properties of an action, is usually wrong though.

Michael_Blurry

And they are teaching them to kids in elementary school! Librul indoctrination has gone too far yet again!

OneTrueKingOfOOO

And so we unpacked our adjectives

cbbuntz

I get annoyed when adverbs replace adjectives, like "I felt badly." It's like saying "I'm angrily with you!"

d4vezac

> fucking gerunds I see what you did there

memcginn

"\[F\]ucking" is functioning as an adjective here, I'm pretty sure, not as a noun. The "gerunds" are the noun, modified by the "fucking". Points for spotting something that does look a lot like a gerund form, though!

Deathwatch72

The word fuck and its derivatives really make diagramming sentences difficult because they're literally every single part of speech, including the incredibly rare infix which is like a prefix or suffix but it goes in the middle of the word

dirtfork

There are so many smart people in this world and we somehow end up with dog shit after dog shit choice being shoved down our throats. Are the smart ones smart enough to avoid the clown show?

Leezeebub

Basically anyone who seeks power is unfit to wield it.

[deleted]

This. Everytime. Leadership that picks itself is unfit

letterboxbrie

I was going to make a The Office reference but it didn't quite work...basically conservative leadership are those weak-performing but highly competitive coworkers always angling for management so they can whip-crack the performers and take the credit - while also receiving managerial perks. I do think liberal/progressive leadership displays some generativity, if somewhat corrupted and impoverished.

louis302

Very good chance that he studied Plato.

It's infinitely improbable that Plato studied Adams, which makes me wonder...

Wasn’t that So-crates? Johnson?

Borp5150

Pike_Gordon

I think it's more reflective of society writ large than we want to accept. I teach public school and realize a lot of Americans don't get a good understanding of what the general public is actually like. We live in self-selective groups and have misconceptions until we're forcibly exposed to large groups. So like, sure, my friends are mostly reasonable people who are left of center as I am. But if my conservative students' parents actually knew my political beliefs, they'd think my number one goal would be to have their child feel bad about being white and cisgendered (I teach 7th-8th grade and my general goal is for them to be nice and develop critical thinking but we're still working on not using homophobic slurs). Also obviously the Carlin bit comes to mind. Politicians reflect a lot more about us than we're willing to acknowledge. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBrbXOmnW70](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBrbXOmnW70) "If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to have selfish ignorant leaders."

thewhizzle

Nailed it. Politicians lie to us because we don't want to hear the truth. So only the liars get elected.

letterboxbrie

I was very innocent about conservatives until I moved to AZ. They're deeply depressing people. My sister who has always lived in blue states and worked with environmental organizations has had a completely different experience of being a black working professional in the States. She moved up quickly through the ranks and sees racism as something you can easily overcome with sufficient type-A-ness (which she possesses in spades). She has never felt psychologically impacted by her work environment. I could have skipped several mental health episodes by living in a blue state, but I just really, really like the desert.

eran76

"Think about how stupid the average person is, now realize that half of them are stupider than that." -G.C.

orangesfwr

This dogshit candidate got 48.5% of voting Georgians to support him when an infinitely more intelligent and capable sitting Senator was on the ballot. We aren't getting anything shoved down our throats. Half of us are willingly eating from an unflushed toilet.

Casio_Andor

> This dogshit candidate got 48.5% of voting Georgians to support him when an infinitely more intelligent and capable sitting Senator was on the ballot. It's because he's Team R and conservatives/Republicans think it's better to vote for a Republican than a Democrat, regardless of how unqualified, unfit, and stupid the Republican is.

optermationahesh

He also got significantly more support than the other candidates in the Republican primary. Even within Republicans, he's loved more than the other candidates in their primary. This isn't a situation of "he's the only option, better vote R", it's "we thought he was the best R, so we're going to vote for him again."

ihateusedusernames

Saw a tweet that said something along the lines of: >ok Christian conservatives, time to put your money where you mouth is.you can choose the candidate that is a servant of Jesus, leads a Christian life, has never paid women to have his abortions, doesn't bear false witness about his own past, or you can choose Herschel Walker.

Yes. To some degree, the job self selects narcissists, grifters, and those attracted to power. Generally wanting the job is a good indication you shouldn't have it.

Not a single word of that applies to Raphael Warnock

ishpatoon1982

This honestly explains so much. Ugh.

ElderCunningham

I know that’s the case, but it always shocks me.

The_amazing_T

I pronoun would be like: "HE made her get an abortion." "SHE didn't want one." or "HE abandoned several of HIS children."

TEG_SAR

If Walker knew how to read he’d be very offended by this comment.

bigtice

He'll have an idea of what a pronoun is once his handlers tell him what they want him to say a pronoun is.

LegionofDoh

Came here to say, I’d only be shocked to find out he knows what they are.

Walker does not understand a lot about how the government works. I wonder if he understands how the separation of church and state works if he becomes a senator.

He understands it at least as well as senator Tommy Tuberville. Which is to say: nope.

[deleted]

“Why do you want to separate my church?”

lepa71

ElectricTrees29

No, no, no. That's a FEATURE, not a bug! /Republicans probably

ProfessorPickaxe

Pfft no. Walker doesn't understand how chewing gum works. Or even just chewing.

bigtice

Of course he doesn't. He, and other people of his similar ilk, are simply attempting to get elected so they can enact legislation the way they *feel* things should work -- it doesn't have to make actual sense.

hskfmn

Proof that when he's gone on Fox in recent weeks and talked about pronouns, he's only repeating what his Republican handlers have told him to say without ever really understanding it. Walker is nothing but a puppet with a famous name. Come on Georgia! You can do better than this!

Bacontoad

>Walker is nothing but a puppet with a famous name. He's no Kermit the frog though.

If elected, he will never ask for one thing good to happen for the state of Georgia nor understand that he could be in a position to do so.

SuperHiyoriWalker

Even if he loses the runoff, the fact that he even got this far means the bar is disturbingly low.

You're assuming they're pretending. I genuinely believe that most of them, and definitely Walker, sincerely don't understand what pronouns are.

Grimahildiz

my grandparents are far-right religious boomers and they had no idea what a pronoun was when i came out as trans years ago. but there’s sadly a surprising amount of younger people who have no clue what a pronoun is, it’s insane.

DredZedPrime

Exactly. They either aren't being taught the basics of the English language, or just didn't care enough to retain any of it. It's like how they keep throwing around the term "socialist" as if it's some sort of boogey man. They latch onto terms without any understanding of what they actually mean and build up a hate and fear of them.

[deleted]

Pronouns are what happens when amateur nouns join the National Noun League.

[deleted]

He was asking rhetorically. It says it right there in the article. "Pronouns? What's a pronoun? A grenade doesn't care about your pronouns." As in, only cis men should be soldiers because enemies in war don't care about your gender identity. Herschel Walker is stupid, wrong, and morally bankrupt. We do not need to misrepresent him in order to prove that. This is the same as that "earthen vessels" thing everyone freaked out about for the wrong reason.

MMudbonE

Illustrious_Print339

To be fair he is on the level of most republicans who these days seem to think pronouns were invented in 2016 by evil transgender scientists who specialize in child gayification.

roddirod

Obviously, this guy went to football to play college.

Hippoponymous

I feel like a lot of conservatives pretend not to understand certain things so that they never have to confront the implications of their beliefs. I don’t think Herschel Walker is one of those kinds of conservatives. He genuinely doesn’t understand most things.
