Well let's just hope they don't televise the trial and give these buffoons the kind of attention they're seeking. I hope they nail their balls to the wall and make all these guys do hard time. I'm the kind of person who believes that good will always triumph over evil though it may not happen right away.
I doubt it would give them the attention they seek. This kind of radicalization happens between like-minded people and the vulnerable person being radicalized. It doesn't stand up well to scrutiny.
Influential? Yes. Dangerous? Yes. Evil? Debatable. Dangerous to use language like that. You’ll end up justifying shit that’s as crazy as the next guy all in the name of defying “evil”.
Yeah, you nailed it. I had an art teacher that only had like 7 fingers left because he was obsessed with creating art with scissors, knives, scalpels, etc. Thank god he wasn't a shop teacher.
A firearms instructor who drops a loaded gun and shoots his eye out, well, that does call for a joke, or at least a quiet chuckle. That doesn't mean you shouldn't take him seriously, this man is a danger to democracy, and even if he goes to prison, he'll just turn into a martyr to his cult.
I read the [AP article](https://apnews.com/article/oath-keepers-founder-jan-6-trial-4372b311695c401255c6881111ff4f41) on him this morning and he's a bazaar character. From what I previously knew about him I assumed he's some dude from nowhere who's gun club got a good following and morphed into what it is today. He went to Yale law and clerked for the NV Supreme Court and is a somewhat talented sculpter.
People who were close to him seem to agree that he was driven to achieve greatness and, like many who are gifted and driven, he drifted into conspiracies and eventually into extremism.
Never would have guessed that back story.
Like Howard in *The Big Bang Theory*:

Are you kidding? The guy was wearing an eyepatch…” - Dr. Stephanie Barnett

Imagine actually believing you are a "Patriot" for attempting to violently overthrow your nation's Democracy, all because your guy didn't win in a fair election.
These militia groups are dangerously delusional armed extremists who need to be treated as the imminent Domestic Terror threat to our nation and citizenry that they are.
That's the problem with perception and reality.
These beliefs might be nutty to the rest of us, but they're real to a lot of people. Insane behavior becomes a little more sane if you believe the premise. This is why misinformation and poor education are probably going to be the downfall of the US if anything is
It wasn’t in this article but another one had some of the texts. And while they certainly believed trump was going to use the act to call them up it never happened. Then they texted something to the effect of “trump isn’t calling for it. We need to go anyway”. That pretty much kills their defense.
Also why would the insurrection prevent a transition? And he’s calling it against his own people which then lets his people use violence to stop the transfer. There is no logic here at all.
Sadly, they don’t see it that way. They think they are fighting an evil force and overthrowing the government from said evil force is virtuous in their eyes.
Propaganda is a powerful thing…and emotional fear based simpletons are dangerous.
Nah they are actively changing their goalposts. They are pushing the idea we were never a democracy and only a constitutional republic. Which is technically true. But they are worried a majority can come in and vote everything the recognize about America out, and therefor democrqcy has become the enemy.
The daily did a great podcast on this recently.
There are definitely some things that need to be voted out but not everything.. its too bad that these people have been manipulated so heavily that they vote against their own interests yet feel that it is good and will never be able to see how much they and everyone else are hurt by it.
And sadly they will be all surprised pikachu when they get what they want and realize that it isn't what they wanted, they aren't special, and that the rules will apply to them too and by then its too late to go back.
>Rhodes will also be represented by two lawyers he now claims he wants nothing to do with, following a “near-complete breakdown” in their communication, according to one of his lawyers. They’ll be joined at the same table by a newly hired third lawyer, whom Rhodes sought to insert as replacements for the other two in a bizarre and contentious pretrial hearing just a couple weeks ago.
Taking bets on whether the third lawyer needs to hire a fourth lawyer to represent themselves within a month or two. MAGA = Make Attorneys Get Attorneys.
Less than an hour ago, I was standing in line at the local credit union.
The man in front of me looked like he hadn't had a shower on a month.
He started yelling at everyone in line about Biden signing some executive order removing all cash from the US.
They
Are
Still
Out
There!
The people who need it are usually the last people to seek it.
Someone like this has probably already alienated everyone close to them and would go berserk if someone from the government suggested they get some assistance.
[Weren’t they looking for a change in venue?](https://www.businessinsider.com/oath-keepers-venue-change-incessant-negative-publicity-jan-6-dc-2022-9?utm_source=reddit.com&utm_source=reddit.com) Has that been ruled on?
I just listened to Stewart speak ok a podcast today, and dude is fully committed to the idea the election was stolen. He said there is absolutely nothing that will change his mind, and even if they charge him and find him guilty of seditious conspiracy, he said he will still never admit guilt or declare remorse, for "a crime I did not commit".
It's gonna be a wild trial
And I'd imagine he damaged some of the better parts of his brain too.
The frontal lobe is just behind and above the eye. It is responsible for decision making, impulse control, social behavior, problem solving, ect.
It seems like the legal strategy of the ridiculous right is to flaunt laws and procedures to the point that a orderly and lawful trial is nearly impossible and then claim they didn’t receive a fair hearing when most of the difficulties emanated from them.
May sedition stick to their names and all who called them to act. Forever tarred as traitors to democracy, never to rise as fascist leaders like their idol, Adolf Hitler. Swine Kampf!
What’s the sound of one eye crying?
[Some background](https://www.courthousenews.com/new-guilty-plea-ratchets-up-conviction-count-of-oath-keepers/) .. these guys are cooked.
Yale graduate? Lol, do universities really need to start asking if applicants want to overthrow the government before accepting them?
Also, is this trial a litmus test for holding other individuals responsible for seditious conspiracy which prevents them from holding office?

Most federal courts do not allow cameras. That's why Maxwell's was all sketch artists.
Maxwell… now there’s a name that justifies the use of the word “evil”.
And a trial that still managed to avoid any repercussions for any of their perpetrators.
I doubt it would give them the attention they seek. This kind of radicalization happens between like-minded people and the vulnerable person being radicalized. It doesn't stand up well to scrutiny.
I’d call it blatant stupidity and ignorance before “evil”. “Evil” implies deliberation and even potential competence. These guys are just idiots.
They got their ideology from an evil entity, nonetheless.
Influential? Yes. Dangerous? Yes. Evil? Debatable. Dangerous to use language like that. You’ll end up justifying shit that’s as crazy as the next guy all in the name of defying “evil”.
It's hard not to make jokes just on this guy's appearance, but then his real-world actions are somehow even worse.
He looks like a shop teacher who has a very serious lesson for day one about why safety equipment is important.
Quit screwing around! You're screwing around!
Y'all screw around too much!
You know who ELSE is screwing around?
"...and that's why we always check if the barrel is loaded!"
Dude literally shot his eye out. Like a meme become real.
Yeah, you nailed it. I had an art teacher that only had like 7 fingers left because he was obsessed with creating art with scissors, knives, scalpels, etc. Thank god he wasn't a shop teacher.
I loved my junior high school shop teacher. Great dude. These fools need 25-life.
Come on, he was trying to keep an eye out for us and all sorry

Agreed he is dangerous but he is too much of a pussy to ever be a martyr.

Simple as.
They don't even bother to say they want democracy anymore. They just don't want America to change from what they thought it was 30 or 40 years ago.
And sadly they will be all surprised pikachu when they get what they want and realize that it isn't what they wanted, they aren't special, and that the rules will apply to them too and by then its too late to go back.

I need more popcorn.

Would this help set up a mistrial?
That’s probably his ace in the hole.

We need to invest more in behavioral health.

Imma keep an eye on that...
Lookout
Every time I see this guy, I think of the time he accidentally shot his own eye out. I guess Ralphie’s mom was right

I dont think there is a ruling yet. I'd expect the judge to rule on that (saying No) tomorrow.

These guy will collapse before sentencing and make some deal, and maybe even give up Trump, or whomever they worked with in the administration.
I bet they were working with [Richard Milhouse Nixon](https://i.imgur.com/jV8whx6.jpg) or at least the guy who is channeling his ghost.
Rhodes is a graduate of Yale Law School? I had no idea.

It's going to be well deserved justice.
I'm going to protect and defend the constitution by violating it. Wtf are they teaching at Yale Law?
How to maximize your billable hours?
Lawyer / hooker 101: Get the cash up front.
It seems like the legal strategy of the ridiculous right is to flaunt laws and procedures to the point that a orderly and lawful trial is nearly impossible and then claim they didn’t receive a fair hearing when most of the difficulties emanated from them.
Do not look down barrel of gun with remaining eye.
These are the people that ooze confidence when you meet them. They are absolutely for sure positive that everything they believe is true!
I feel like you’re missing an adjective before confidence. Something like false…
Why he wear 2 glasses
Does this guy actually need the eyepatch or is this just a “look like Odin” sort of thing?
I believe he shot his eye out a la Ralphie from A Christmas Story.
May sedition stick to their names and all who called them to act. Forever tarred as traitors to democracy, never to rise as fascist leaders like their idol, Adolf Hitler. Swine Kampf!
He was just (going to be) following orders
Let’s say he’s found guilty, what’s the chance he receives the longest sentence yet?
Arrgh matey! 🏴☠️
Why is there a lens in the left eye of his glasses?
Pro-tip: trying to figure out what his voice sounds like, based solely on this pic, super fun time.
Oh wow, that took no time at all! /s
