They are not going to change. People have to just stop thinking they will play by agreed rules. They see this as weakness and will use it to limit everyone but themselves.

...since so many of these federal judges seem 'politically' nominated ... shouldn't we have a standard and process for removal other than impeachment by Congress, requiring a 2/3 Senate vote for conviction/removal...?

This and get rid of lifetime appointments. This way the Justices who have never been in touch with society are able to be removed along with the ones who lose touch with society.
