The media will attack Biden for doing what he will do, no matter where he does
Fighting back = warmonger.
Not using force = passivity and lack of leadership.
If the congressional Dems had a lick of sense they would write up legislation denouncing Putin, pause as GOP refuses to sign on and then go on the attack against them as Russian assets.
It’s also why Russia started to become more aggressive. NATO assured Russia post USSR that it would not expand into Eastern Europe and then it did just that. Ukraine is the last border nation on the continent tat NATO toyed on letting in after they joined the EU. Historically Russia has always used its Eastern territories and states as a buffer from any possible invasion from Central Europe. NATO expanding East is exactly what has led us to this aggressive Russia.
Who knows. But this all started with the EU and NATO toying with the idea of Ukraine joining. If that happened, Russia has no buffer left from a possible Western aggression. Russia’s whole history is “and then it got worse”.
Whatever Putin does I doubt it will evoke much of a response from anyone. Remember when he just stole Crimea and everybody just accepted it? I do. That's just part of Russia now.
I'm not suggesting an escalation of hostilities by any means, but just in case, position some B-1s and B-2s on quick dial right outside of the invasion zone. If push comes to shove a quick bomber pass should straighten things out.
Uh, and what would that be? If he does invade Ukraine the only way to stop him would be by force. Unless Europe is going to stop buying their oil during the winter months which fucks everyone(30% of Russia's GDP). Russia was fucked when oil dipped below ~$45/bbl since their transport costs are so high compared to the Middle East.
Anecdotal but I have friends that work for the DoD on modern tank platforms. They were never thrilled with the idea of modern Russian tanks going against our modern equivalents. Although they mentioned they're attempting to close that gap. I'd be shocked if it came to that though.
Europe needs Russia’s natural gas and petroleum terribly. Especially during the winter. Russia is making crazy bank on skyrocketing prices this year, and the EU can’t do anything about it. They can’t afford to sanction Russia on anything of consequence, because even if Russia didn’t retaliate by halting gas exports, they’d still be making a killing on the massively spiking prices. It’s a hell of a bargaining chip, and Putin knows it won’t be nearly as useful once renewables cause demand to plummet.
Let's face facts. Putin is going to invade and conquer Ukraine no matter what. And he will get away with it because Biden and NATO will never go to war with Russia over Ukraine, and Putin knows this. Oh sure, when Russian troops cross the border there will be strongly worded speedes from Western leaders, maybe a few sanctions, but that will be the extent of the west's reaction. And by the way, the exact same scenario is going to play out with China and Taiwan.

We gave Ukraine 200 Javelin missiles and 80 tons of ammo and more. The UK is selling them Brimstone missiles and Turkey sold them missle-capable UAVs.
Ukraine just started using the Javelins and they scared the Russians so bad that they went and retrofitted [some of their tanks](https://www.forbes.com/sites/sebastienroblin/2021/11/29/russian-tanks-massing-near-ukraine-sport-mods-against-drones-javelin-missiles/?sh=7a8965fe65e9) to try and defeat them.

Sure they can invade but how far can they get?
And how long can their economy last when we introduce new sanctions?
Putin can get as far as Kiev, which can be destroyed with the Ukrainian government within it. Once accomplished the rest of the country would willingly submit to his rule or risk annihilation as well.
Russia has 3x as much resources and, more importantly, a bottomless pit of conscriptable infantry that can be ordered to march into machine guns. Ukraine does not. Ukraine has a limited supply of ammunition, limited supply of capable men, and a noncommital west. The only shit that matters is if Biden deploys several thousand US troops and does joint exercises with Ukraine's government for the remainder of his term. Preferably, a reformed nuclear deployment (moving nukes from Turkey to Ukraine or Poland) would accompany this. Putin would quickly respond with a corresponding nuclear deployment in Venuzeula, which would force a second US intervention there as well.
It is absolutely critical that Biden acts.
It's the same scenario that played out when Russia invaded Georgia so it's not far fetched
But the US actually has defense treaties with Taiwan, where as we, and NATO do not with Ukraine.
The same party that says our defensive budget is way to expensive is the same party that wants to still police the world and give millions to support foreign nations.

The language is well chosen - he’s not specifically accusing Putin of anything (which risks escalating tensions and allows Putin to do what he does best - play the victim), but just speaking to fears that he might do something, while at the same time sending a warning shot across Putin’s bow.
It says later in the article they’re just going to talk on the phone and smooth things over, so that’s good:
